Psalm 78 in Tamil

1 என் ஜனங்களே என் உபதேசத்தைக் கேளுங்கள்; என் வாயின் வசனங்களுக்கு உங்கள் செவிகளைச் சாயுங்கள். Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

2 என் வாயை உவமைகளால் திறப்பேன்; பூர்வகாலத்து மறைபொருள்களை வெளிப்படுத்துவேன். I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

3 அவைகளை நாங்கள் கேள்விப்பட்டு அறிந்தோம், எங்கள் பிதாக்கள் அவைகளை எங்களுக்குத் தெரிவித்தார்கள். Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

4 பின்வரும் சந்ததியான பிள்ளைக்கு நாங்கள் அவைகளை மறைக்காமல், கர்த்தரின் துதிகளையும் அவருடைய பலத்தையும், அவர் செய்த அவருடைய அதிசயங்களையும் விவரிப்போம். We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

5 அவர் யாக்கோபிலே சாட்சியை ஏற்படுத்தி இஸ்ரவேலிலே வேதத்தை ஸ்தாபித்து அவைகளைத் தங்கள் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி நம்முடைய பிதாக்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார். For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

6 இனிப் பிறக்கும் பிள்ளைகளாகிய பின்சந்ததியார் அதை அறிந்துகொண்டு, அவர்கள் எழும்பித் தங்கள் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு அவைகளைச் சொல்லும்படிக்கும்; That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

7 தேவன்மேல் அவர்கள் தங்கள் நம்பிக்கையை வைத்து தேவனுடைய செயல்களை மறவாமல் அவர் கற்பனைகளைக் கைக்கொள்ளும்படிக்கும்; That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

8 இருதயத்தைச் செவ்வைப்படுத்தாமலும், தேவனை உறுதியாய்ப் பற்றிக்கொள்ளாமலும் இருந்த முரட்டாட்டமும் கலகமுமுள்ள சந்ததியாகிய தங்கள் பிதாக்களுக்கு அவர்கள் ஒப்பாகாதபடிக்கும், இவைகளைக் கட்டளையிட்டார். And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

9 ஆயுதமணிந்த வில்வீரரான எப்பிராயீம் புத்திரர் யுத்தநாளிலே முதுகுகாட்டினார்கள். The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

10 அவர்கள் தேவனுடைய உடன்படிக்கையைக் கைக்கொள்ளாமலும் அவருடைய கட்டளைகளின்படி நடக்கச் சம்மதியாமலும், They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

11 அவருடைய செயல்களையும் அவர் தங்களுக்குக் காண்பித்த அதிசயங்களையும் மறந்தார்கள். And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.

12 அவர்களுடைய பிதாக்களுக்குமுன்பாக, எகிப்துதேசத்துச் சோவான் வெளியிலே, அவர் அதிசயமானவைகளைச் செய்தார். Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

13 கடலைப் பிளந்து, அவர்களைக் கடக்கப்பண்ணி, ஜலத்தைக் குவியலாக நிற்கும்படி செய்தார். He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

14 பகலிலே மேகத்தினாலும் இராமுழுதும் அக்கினி வெளிச்சத்தினாலும் அவர்களை வழிநடத்தினார். In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

15 வனாந்தரத்திலே கன்மலைகளைப் பிளந்து, மகா ஆழங்களிலிருந்து தண்ணீரை அவர்களுக்குக் குடிக்கக் கொடுத்தார். He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

16 கன்மலையிலிருந்து நீரோட்டங்களைப் புறப்படப்பண்ணி, தண்ணீரை நதிபோல ஓடிவரும்படி செய்தார். He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

17 என்றாலும், அவர்கள் பின்னும் அவருக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பாவஞ்செய்து, வறண்ட வெளியிலே உன்னதமானவருக்குக் கோபம்மூட்டினார்கள். And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

18 தங்கள் இச்சைக்கேற்ற போஜனத்தைக் கேட்டு, தங்கள் இருதயத்தில் தேவனைப் பரீட்சைபார்த்தார்கள். And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

19 அவர்கள் தேவனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பேசி: தேவன் வனாந்தரத்திலே போஜனபந்தியை ஆயத்தப்படுத்தக்கூடுமோ? Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

20 இதோ அவர் கன்மலையை அடித்ததினால் தண்ணீர் புறப்பட்டு நதிகளாய்ப் புரண்டுவந்தது; அவர் அப்பத்தையும் கொடுக்கக்கூடுமோ? தம்முடைய ஜனத்திற்கு மாம்சத்தையும் ஆயத்தப்படுத்துவாரோ? என்றார்கள். Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

21 ஆகையால் கர்த்தர் அதைக்கேட்டுக் கோபங்கொண்டார்; அவர்கள் தேவனை விசுவாசியாமலும், அவருடைய இரட்சிப்பை நம்பாமலும் போனதினால், Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

22 யாக்கோபுக்கு விரோதமாய் அக்கினி பற்றியெரிந்தது; இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு விரோதமாய்க் கோபம்மூண்டது. Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

23 அவர் உயரத்திலுள்ள மேகங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டு, வானத்தின் கதவுகளைத் திறந்து, Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

24 மன்னாவை அவர்களுக்கு ஆகாரமாக வருஷிக்கப்பண்ணி, வானத்தின் தானியத்தை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார். And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

25 தூதர்களின் அப்பத்தை மனுஷன் சாப்பிட்டான்; அவர்களுக்கு ஆகாரத்தைப் பூரணமாய் அனுப்பினார். Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

26 ஆகாசத்திலே கீழ்காற்றை வரப்பண்ணி, தம்முடைய வல்லமையினால் தென்றலையும் வீசச்செய்து, He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

27 மாம்சத்தைத் தூளத்தனையாயும், சிறகுள்ள பறவைகளைக் கடற்கரை மணலத்தனையாயும் வருஷிக்கப்பண்ணி, He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

28 அவைகளை அவர்கள் பாளயத்தின் நடுவிலும், அவர்கள் கூடாரங்களைச் சுற்றிலும் இறங்கப்பண்ணினார். And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

29 அவர்கள் புசித்துத் திருப்தியடைந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் இச்சித்ததை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார். So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

30 அவர்கள் தங்கள் இச்சையை வெறுக்கவில்லை; அவர்களுடைய போஜனம் அவர்கள் வாயில் இருக்கும்போதே, They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

31 தேவகோபம் அவர்கள்மேல் எழும்பி, அவர்களில் கொழுத்தவர்களைச் சங்கரித்து, இஸ்ரவேலில் விசேஷித்தவர்களை மடியப்பண்ணிற்று. The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

32 இவையெல்லாம் நடந்தும், அவர் செய்த அதிசயங்களை அவர்கள் நம்பாமல், பின்னும் பாவஞ்செய்தார்கள். For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

33 ஆதலால் அவர்கள் நாட்களை விருதாவிலும், அவர்கள் வருஷங்களைப் பயங்கரத்திலும் கழியப்பண்ணினார். Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

34 அவர்களை அவர் கொல்லும்போது அவரைக்குறித்து விசாரித்து, அவர்கள் திரும்பிவந்து தேவனை அதிகாலமே தேடி; When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

35 தேவன் தங்கள் கன்மலையென்றும், உன்னதமான தேவன் தங்கள் மீட்பர் என்றும், நினைவுகூர்ந்தார்கள். And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

36 ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் தங்கள் வாயினால் அவருக்கு இச்சகம்பேசி, தங்கள் நாவினால் அவரிடத்தில் பொய்சொன்னார்கள். Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

37 அவர்கள் இருதயம் அவரிடத்தில் நிலைவரப்படவில்லை; அவருடைய உடன்படிக்கையில் அவர்கள் உண்மையாயிருக்கவில்லை. For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.

38 அவரோ அவர்களை அழிக்காமல், இரக்கமுள்ளவராய் அவர்கள் அக்கிரமத்தை மன்னித்தார்; அவர் தமது உக்கிரம் முழுவதையும் எழுப்பாமல், அநேகந்தரம் தமது கோபத்தை விலக்கிவிட்டார். But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

39 அவர்கள் மாம்சமென்றும் திரும்பிவராமல் அகலுகிற காற்றென்றும் நினைவுகூர்ந்தார். For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

40 எத்தனைதரமோ வனாந்தரத்திலே அவருக்குக் கோபம் மூட்டி, அவாந்தரவெளியிலே அவரை விசனப்படுத்தினார்கள். How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

41 அவர்கள் திரும்பி தேவனைப் பரீட்சை பார்த்து, இஸ்ரவேலின் பரிசுத்தரை மட்டுப்படுத்தினார்கள். Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

42 அவருடைய கரத்தையும், அவர் தங்களைச் சத்துருவுக்கு விலக்கி மீட்ட நாளையும் நினையாமற்போனார்கள். They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

43 அவர் எகிப்திலே தம்முடைய அடையாளங்களையும், சோவான் வெளியிலே தம்முடைய அற்புதங்களையும் செய்தார். How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan.

44 அவர்களுடைய நதிகளை இரத்தமாக மாற்றி, அவர்களுடைய ஆறுகளிலுள்ள ஜலத்தைக் குடிக்கக் கூடாதபடி செய்தார். And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

45 அவர்களை அழிக்கும்படி வண்டுஜாதிகளையும், அவர்களைக் கெடுக்கும்படி தவளைகளையும் அவர்களுக்குள்ளே அனுப்பினார். He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

46 அவர்களுடைய விளைச்சலைப் புழுக்களுக்கும் அவர்களுடைய பிரயாசத்தின் பலனை வெட்டுக்கிளிகளுக்கும் கொடுத்தார். He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

47 கல்மழையினால் அவர்களுடைய திராட்சச்செடிகளையும், ஆலாங்கட்டியினால் அவர்களுடைய அத்திமரங்களையும் அழித்து, He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.

48 அவர்களுடைய மிருகஜீவன்களைக் கல்மழைக்கும, அவர்களுடைய ஆடுமாடுகளை இடிகளுக்கும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார். He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

49 தமது உக்கிரமான கோபத்தையும், மூர்க்கத்தையும் சினத்தையும், உபத்திரவத்தையும், தீங்குசெய்யும் தூதர்களையும் அவர்களுக்குள்ளே அனுப்பினார். He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

50 அவர் தம்முடைய கோபத்துக்கு வழிதிறந்து, அவர்கள் ஆத்துமாவை மரணத்துக்கு விலக்கிக் காவாமல் அவர்கள் ஜீவனைக் கொள்ளைநோய்க்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார். He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

51 எகிப்திலே தலைச்சன்கள் அனைத்தையும், காமின் கூடாரங்களிலே அவர்களுடைய பெலனில் முதற்பலனான யாவையும் அழித்து; And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

52 தம்முடைய ஜனங்களை ஆடுகளைப்போல் புறப்படப்பண்ணி, அவர்களை வனாந்தரத்திலே மந்தையைப்போல் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோய்; But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

53 அவர்கள் பயப்படாதபடிக்கு அவர்களைப் பத்திரமாய் வழிநடத்தினார்; அவர்கள் சத்துருக்களைக் கடல்மூடிப்போட்டது. And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

54 அவர்களைத் தமது பரிசுத்த ஸ்தலத்தின் எல்லைவரைக்கும், தமது வலதுகரம் சம்பாதித்த இந்தப் பர்வதமட்டுக்கும் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து, And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

55 அவர்கள் முகத்திற்கு முன்பாக ஜாதிகளைத் துரத்திவிட்டு, தேசத்தை நூல்போட்டுப் பங்கிட்டு, அவர்களுடைய கூடாரங்களில் இஸ்ரவேலின் கோத்திரங்களைக் குடியேற்றினார். He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

56 ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் உன்னதமான தேவனைப் பரீட்சைபார்த்து, அவருக்குக் கோபம் மூட்டி, அவருடைய சாட்சிகளைக் கைக்கொள்ளாமற்போய், Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

57 தங்கள் பிதாக்களைப்போல வழிவிலகி, துரோகம்பண்ணி, மோசம்போக்கும் வில்லைப்போல் துவண்டு, But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

58 தங்கள் மேடைகளினால் அவருக்குக் கோபம் மூட்டி, தங்கள் விக்கிரகங்களினால் எரிச்சல் உண்டாக்கினார்கள். For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

59 தேவன் அதைக் கேட்டு உக்கிரமாகி இஸ்ரவேலை மிகவும் வெறுத்து, When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

60 தாம் மனுஷருக்குள்ளே போட்ட கூடாரமாகிய சீலோவிலுள்ள வாசஸ்தலத்தை விட்டுவிலகி, So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

61 தமது பலத்தைச் சிறையிருப்புக்கும், தமது மகிமையைச் சத்துருவின் கைக்கும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து, And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.

62 தமது ஜனத்தைப் பட்டயத்துக்கு இரையாக்கி, தமது சுதந்தரத்தின்மேல் கோபங்கொண்டார். He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

63 அவர்கள் வாலிபரை அக்கினி பட்சித்தது, அவர்கள் கன்னியாஸ்திரீகள் வாழ்க்கைப்படாதிருந்தார்கள். The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

64 அவர்களுடைய ஆசாரியர்கள் பட்டயத்தால் விழுந்தார்கள், அவர்களுடைய விதவைகள் அழவில்லை. Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

65 அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவர் நித்திரை தெளிந்தவனைப்போலவும் திராட்சரசத்தால் கெம்பீரிக்கிற பராக்கிரமசாலியைப்போலவும் விழித்து, Then the LORD awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

66 தம்முடைய சத்துருக்களைப் பின்புறமாக அடித்து, அவர்களுக்கு நித்திய நிந்தையை வரப்பண்ணினார். And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

67 அவர் யோசேப்பின் கூடாரத்தைப் புறக்கணித்தார்; எப்பிராயீம் கோத்திரத்தை அவர் தெரிந்துகொள்ளாமல், Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

68 யூதா கோத்திரத்தையும் தமக்குப் பிரியமான சீயோன் பர்வதத்தையும் தெரிந்துகொண்டார். But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

69 தம்முடைய பரிசுத்த ஸ்தலத்தை மலைகளைப்போலவும், என்றைக்கும் நிற்கும்படி தாம் அஸ்திபாரப்படுத்தின பூமியைப்போலவும் கட்டினார். And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.

70 தம்முடைய தாசனாகிய தாவீதைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டு, ஆட்டுத்தொழுவங்களிலிருந்து அவனை எடுத்தார். He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

71 கறவலாடுகளின் பின்னாகத் திரிந்த அவனை, தம்முடைய ஜனமாகிய யாக்கோபையும் தம்முடைய சுதந்தரமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலையும் மேய்ப்பதற்காக, அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்தார். From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

72 இவன் அவர்களைத் தன் இருதயத்தின் உண்மையின்படியே மேய்த்து, தன் கைகளின் திறமையினால் அவர்களை நடத்தினான். So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

1 En janangalae en upathaesaththaik kaelungal; en vaayin vasanangalukku ungal sevikalaich saayungal. Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

2 En vaayai uvamaikalaal thirappaen; poorvakaalaththu maraiporulkalai velippaduththuvaen. I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

3 Avaikalai naangal kaelvippattu arinthom, engal pithaakkal avaikalai engalukkuth theriviththaarkal. Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

4 Pinvarum santhathiyaana pillaikku naangal avaikalai maraikkaamal, karththarin thuthikalaiyum avarutaiya palaththaiyum, avar seytha avarutaiya athisayangalaiyum vivarippom. We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

5 Avar yaakkopilae saatchiyai aerpaduththi isravaelilae vaethaththai sthaapiththu avaikalaith thangal pillaikalukku arivikkumpati nammutaiya pithaakkalukkuk kattalaiyittar. 6 Inip pirakkum pillaikalaakiya pinsanthathiyaar athai arinthukonndu, avarkal elumpith thangal pillaikalukku avaikalaich sollumpatikkum; That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

7 Dhevanmael avarkal thangal nampikkaiyai vaiththu thaevanutaiya seyalkalai maravaamal avar karpanaikalaik kaikkollumpatikkum; That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

8 Iruthayaththaich sevvaippaduththaamalum, thaevanai uraுthiyaayp pattikkollaamalum iruntha murattattamum kalakamumulla santhathiyaakiya thangal pithaakkalukku avarkal oppaakaathapatikkum, ivaikalaik kattalaiyittar. And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

9 Aayuthamannintha vilveeraraana eppiraayeem puththirar yuththanaalilae muthukukaattinaarkal. The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

10 Avarkal thaevanutaiya udanpatikkaiyaik kaikkollaamalum avarutaiya kattalaikalinpati nadakkach sammathiyaamalum, They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

11 Avarutaiya seyalkalaiyum avar thangalukkuk kaannpiththa athisayangalaiyum maranthaarkal. And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.

12 Avarkalutaiya pithaakkalukkumunpaaka, ekipthuthaesaththuch sovaan veliyilae, avar athisayamaanavaikalaich seythaar. Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

13 Kadalaip pilanthu, avarkalaik kadakkappannnni, jalaththaik kuviyalaaka nirkumpati seythaar. He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

14 Pakalilae maekaththinaalum iraamuluthum akkini velichchaththinaalum avarkalai valinadaththinaar. In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

15 Vanaantharaththilae kanmalaikalaip pilanthu, makaa aalangalilirunthu thannnneerai avarkalukkuk kutikkak koduththaar. He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

16 Kanmalaiyilirunthu neerottangalaip purappadappannnni, thannnneerai nathipola otivarumpati seythaar. He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

17 Entalum, avarkal pinnum avarukku virothamaayp paavanjaெythu, varannda veliyilae unnathamaanavarukkuk kopammoottinaarkal. And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

18 Thangal ichchaைkkaetta pojanaththaik kaettu, thangal iruthayaththil thaevanaip pareetchaைpaarththaarkal. And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

19 Avarkal thaevanukku virothamaayp paesi: Dhevan vanaantharaththilae pojanapanthiyai aayaththappaduththakkoodumo? Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

20 Itho avar kanmalaiyai atiththathinaal thannnneer purappattu nathikalaayp purannduvanthathu; avar appaththaiyum kodukkakkoodumo? Thammutaiya janaththirku maamsaththaiyum aayaththappaduththuvaaro? Entarkal. Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

21 Aakaiyaal Karththar athaikkaettuk kopangaொnndaar; avarkal thaevanai visuvaasiyaamalum, avarutaiya iratchippai nampaamalum ponathinaal, Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

22 Yaakkopukku virothamaay akkini pattiyerinthathu; isravaelukku virothamaayk kopammoonndathu. Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

23 Avar uyaraththilulla maekangalukkuk kattalaiyittu, vaanaththin kathavukalaith thiranthu, Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

24 Mannaavai avarkalukku aakaaramaaka varushikkappannnni, vaanaththin thaaniyaththai avarkalukkuk koduththaar. And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

25 Thootharkalin appaththai manushan saappittan; avarkalukku aakaaraththaip pooranamaay anuppinaar. Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

26 Aakaasaththilae geelkaattaை varappannnni, thammutaiya vallamaiyinaal thentalaiyum veesachcheythu, He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

27 Maamsaththaith thoolaththanaiyaayum, sirakulla paravaikalaik kadarkarai manalaththanaiyaayum varushikkappannnni, He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

28 Avaikalai avarkal paalayaththin naduvilum, avarkal koodaarangalaich suttilum irangappannnninaar. And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

29 Avarkal pusiththuth thirupthiyatainthaarkal; avarkal ichchiththathai avarkalukkuk koduththaar. So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

30 Avarkal thangal ichchaைyai veraுkkavillai; avarkalutaiya pojanam avarkal vaayil irukkumpothae, They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

31 Thaevakopam avarkalmael elumpi, avarkalil koluththavarkalaich sangariththu, isravaelil viseshiththavarkalai matiyappannnnittaு. The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

32 Ivaiyellaam nadanthum, avar seytha athisayangalai avarkal nampaamal, pinnum paavanjaெythaarkal. For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

33 Aathalaal avarkal naatkalai viruthaavilum, avarkal varushangalaip payangaraththilum kaliyappannnninaar. Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

34 Avarkalai avar kollumpothu avaraikkuriththu visaariththu, avarkal thirumpivanthu thaevanai athikaalamae thaeti; When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

35 Dhevan thangal kanmalaiyentum, unnathamaana Dhevan thangal meetpar entum, ninaivukoornthaarkal. And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

36 Aanaalum avarkal thangal vaayinaal avarukku ichchakampaesi, thangal naavinaal avaridaththil poysonnaarkal. Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

37 Avarkal iruthayam avaridaththil nilaivarappadavillai; avarutaiya udanpatikkaiyil avarkal unnmaiyaayirukkavillai. For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.

38 Avaro avarkalai alikkaamal, irakkamullavaraay avarkal akkiramaththai manniththaar; avar thamathu ukkiram muluvathaiyum eluppaamal, anaekantharam thamathu kopaththai vilakkivittar. But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

39 Avarkal maamsamentum thirumpivaraamal akalukira kaattentum ninaivukoornthaar. For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

40 Eththanaitharamo vanaantharaththilae avarukkuk kopam mootti, avaantharaveliyilae avarai visanappaduththinaarkal. How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

41 Avarkal thirumpi thaevanaip pareetchaை paarththu, isravaelin Parisuththarai mattuppaduththinaarkal. Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

42 Avarutaiya karaththaiyum, avar thangalaich saththuruvukku vilakki meetta naalaiyum ninaiyaamarponaarkal. They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

43 Avar ekipthilae thammutaiya ataiyaalangalaiyum, sovaan veliyilae thammutaiya arputhangalaiyum seythaar. How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan.

44 Avarkalutaiya nathikalai iraththamaaka maatti, avarkalutaiya aaraுkalilulla jalaththaik kutikkak koodaathapati seythaar. And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

45 Avarkalai alikkumpati vanndujaathikalaiyum, avarkalaik kedukkumpati thavalaikalaiyum avarkalukkullae anuppinaar. He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

46 Avarkalutaiya vilaichchalaip pulukkalukkum avarkalutaiya pirayaasaththin palanai vettukkilikalukkum koduththaar. He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

47 Kalmalaiyinaal avarkalutaiya thiraatchachchetikalaiyum, aalaangattiyinaal avarkalutaiya aththimarangalaiyum aliththu, He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.

48 Avarkalutaiya mirukajeevankalaik kalmalaikkuma, avarkalutaiya aadumaadukalai itikalukkum oppukkoduththaar. He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

49 Thamathu ukkiramaana kopaththaiyum, moorkkaththaiyum sinaththaiyum, upaththiravaththaiyum, theenguseyyum thootharkalaiyum avarkalukkullae anuppinaar. He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

50 Avar thammutaiya kopaththukku valithiranthu, avarkal aaththumaavai maranaththukku vilakkik kaavaamal avarkal jeevanaik kollaiNnoykku oppukkoduththaar. He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

51 Ekipthilae thalaichchankal anaiththaiyum, kaamin koodaarangalilae avarkalutaiya pelanil mutharpalanaana yaavaiyum aliththu; And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

52 Thammutaiya janangalai aadukalaippol purappadappannnni, avarkalai vanaantharaththilae manthaiyaippol koottikkonndupoy; But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

53 Avarkal payappadaathapatikku avarkalaip paththiramaay valinadaththinaar; avarkal saththurukkalaik kadalmootippottathu. And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

54 Avarkalaith thamathu Parisuththa sthalaththin ellaivaraikkum, thamathu valathukaram sampaathiththa inthap parvathamattukkum alaiththukkonnduvanthu, And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

55 Avarkal mukaththirku munpaaka jaathikalaith thuraththivittu, thaesaththai noolpottup pangittu, avarkalutaiya koodaarangalil isravaelin koththirangalaik kutiyaettinaar. He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

56 Aanaalum avarkal unnathamaana thaevanaip pareetchaைpaarththu, avarukkuk kopam mootti, avarutaiya saatchikalaik kaikkollaamarpoy, Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

57 Thangal pithaakkalaippola valivilaki, thurokampannnni, mosampokkum villaippol thuvanndu, But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

58 Thangal maetaikalinaal avarukkuk kopam mootti, thangal vikkirakangalinaal erichchal unndaakkinaarkal. For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

59 Dhevan athaik kaettu ukkiramaaki isravaelai mikavum veraுththu, When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

60 Thaam manusharukkullae potta koodaaramaakiya seelovilulla vaasasthalaththai vittuvilaki, So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

61 Thamathu palaththaich siraiyiruppukkum, thamathu makimaiyaich saththuruvin kaikkum oppukkoduththu, And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.

62 Thamathu janaththaip pattayaththukku iraiyaakki, thamathu suthantharaththinmael kopangaொnndaar. He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

63 Avarkal vaaliparai akkini patchiththathu, avarkal kanniyaasthireekal vaalkkaippadaathirunthaarkal. The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

64 Avarkalutaiya aasaariyarkal pattayaththaal vilunthaarkal, avarkalutaiya vithavaikal alavillai. Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

65 Appoluthu aanndavar niththirai thelinthavanaippolavum thiraatcharasaththaal kempeerikkira paraakkiramasaaliyaippolavum viliththu, Then the LORD awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

66 Thammutaiya saththurukkalaip pinpuramaaka atiththu, avarkalukku niththiya ninthaiyai varappannnninaar. And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

67 Avar yoseppin koodaaraththaip purakkanniththaar; eppiraayeem koththiraththai avar therinthukollaamal, Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

68 Yoothaa koththiraththaiyum thamakkup piriyamaana seeyon parvathaththaiyum therinthukonndaar. But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

69 Thammutaiya Parisuththa sthalaththai malaikalaippolavum, entaikkum nirkumpati thaam asthipaarappaduththina poomiyaippolavum kattinaar. And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.

70 Thammutaiya thaasanaakiya thaaveethaith therinthukonndu, aattuththoluvangalilirunthu avanai eduththaar. He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

71 Karavalaadukalin pinnaakath thirintha avanai, thammutaiya janamaakiya yaakkopaiyum thammutaiya suthantharamaakiya isravaelaiyum maeyppatharkaaka, alaiththukkonnduvanthaar. From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

72 Ivan avarkalaith than iruthayaththin unnmaiyinpatiyae maeyththu, than kaikalin thiramaiyinaal avarkalai nadaththinaan. So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
