ஆனால் யூதர்கள் பவுலின் போதனையை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை. சில புண்படுத்தும் வார்த்தைகளை யூதர்கள் கூறினர். எனவே பவுல் உடையிலிருந்த தூசியை உதறினான். அவன் யூதரை நோக்கி, “நீங்கள் இரட்சிக்கப்படாவிட்டால் அது உங்களின் தவறுதான்! நான் என்னால் முடிந்ததைச் செய்துவிட்டேன்! இதன் பிறகு, நான் யூதரல்லாத மக்களிடம் மட்டுமே செல்வேன்!” என்றான்.
