1 தேவனே, எங்கள் பிதாக்களுடைய நாட்களாகிய பூர்வநாட்களில் நீர் நடப்பித்த கிரியைகளை அவர்கள் எங்களுக்கு அறிவித்தார்கள்; அவைகளை எங்கள் காதுகளால் கேட்டோம். We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

2 தேவரீர் உம்முடைய கையினாலே ஜாதிகளைத் துரத்தி, இவர்களை நாட்டி; ஜனங்களைத் துன்பப்படுத்தி, இவர்களைப் பரவப்பண்ணினீர். How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

3 அவர்கள் தங்கள் பட்டயத்தால் தேசத்தைக் கட்டிக்கொள்ளவில்லை; அவர்கள் புயமும் அவர்களை இரட்சிக்கவில்லை; நீர் அவர்கள்மேல் பிரியமாயிருந்தபடியால், உம்முடைய வலதுகரமும், உம்முடைய புயமும், உம்முடைய முகத்தின் பிரகாசமும் அவர்களை இரட்சித்தது. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

4 தேவனே, நீர் என் ராஜா, யாக்கோபுக்கு இரட்சிப்பைக் கட்டளையிடும். Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.

5 உம்மாலே எங்கள் சத்துருக்களைக் கீழே விழத்தாக்கி எங்களுக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்புகிறவர்களை உம்முடைய நாமத்தினால் மிதிப்போம். Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

6 என் வில்லை நான் நம்பேன். என் பட்டயம் என்னை இரட்சிப்பதில்லை. For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

7 நீரே எங்கள் சத்துருக்களினின்று எங்களை இரட்சித்து, எங்களைப் பகைக்கிறவர்களை அகப்படுத்தினீர். But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

8 தேவனுக்குள் நித்தம் மேன்மை பாராட்டுவோம்; உமது நாமத்தை என்றென்றைக்கும் துதிப்போம்.(சேலா.) In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

9 நீர் எங்களைத் தள்ளிவிட்டு, நாணப்பண்ணுகிறீர்; எங்கள் சேனைகளுடனே செல்லாதிருக்கிறீர். But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.

10 சத்துருவுக்கு நாங்கள் இடைந்து பின்னிட்டுத் திரும்பிப்போகப் பண்ணுகிறீர்; எங்கள் பகைஞர் தங்களுக்கென்று எங்களைக் கொள்ளையிடுகிறார்கள். Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.

11 நீர் எங்களை ஆடுகளைப்போல இரையாக ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து, ஜாதிகளுக்குள்ளே எங்களைச் சிதறடிக்கிறீர். Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.

12 நீர் உம்முடைய ஜனங்களை இலவசமாக விற்கிறீர்; அவர்கள் கிரயத்தினால் உமக்கு லாபமில்லையே. Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.

13 எங்கள் அயலாருக்கு எங்களை நிந்தையாகவும், எங்கள் சுற்றுப்புறத்தாருக்குப் பரியாசமும் சக்கந்தமுமாகவும் வைக்கிறீர். Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

14 நாங்கள் ஜாதிகளுக்குள்ளே பழமொழியாயிருக்கவும் ஜனங்கள் எங்களைக்குறித்துத் தலைதுலுக்கவும் செய்கிறீர். Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.

15 நிந்தித்துத் தூஷிக்கிறவனுடைய சத்தத்தினிமித்தமும், சத்துருவினிமித்தமும், பழிவாங்குகிறவனிமித்தமும், My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,

16 என் இலச்சை நித்தம் எனக்கு முன்பாக இருக்கிறது; என் முகத்தின் வெட்கம் என்னை மூடுகிறது. For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.

17 இவையெல்லாம் எங்கள்மேல் வந்திருந்தும், உம்மை நாங்கள் மறக்கவும் இல்லை. உம்முடைய உடன்படிக்கைக்குத் துரோகம்பண்ணவும் இல்லை. All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

18 நீர் எங்களை வலுசர்ப்பங்களுள்ள இடத்திலே நொறுக்கி, மரண இருளினாலே எங்களை மூடியிருந்தும், Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;

19 எங்கள் இருதயம் பின்வாங்கவுமில்லை, எங்கள் காலடி உம்முடைய பாதையை விட்டு விலகவும் இல்லை. Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.

20 நாங்கள் எங்கள் தேவனுடைய நாமத்தை மறந்து, அந்நியதேவனை நோக்கிக் கையெடுத்திருந்தோமானால், If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

21 தேவன் அதை ஆராய்ந்து, விசாரியாதிருப்பாரோ? இருதயத்தின் அந்தரங்ககளை அவர் அறிந்திருக்கிறாரே. Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

22 உமது நிமித்தம் எந்நேரமும் கொல்லப்படுகிறோம்; அடிக்கப்படும் ஆடுகளைப்போல எண்ணப்படுகிறோம். Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

23 ஆண்டவரே, விழித்துக்கொள்ளும்; ஏன் நித்திரை பண்ணுகிறீர்? எழுந்தருளும், எங்களை என்றைக்கும் தள்ளிவிடாதிரும். Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.

24 ஏன் உம்முடைய முகத்தை மறைத்து, எங்கள் சிறுமையையும் எங்கள் நெருக்கத்தையும் மறந்துவிடுகிறீர்? Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?

25 எங்கள் ஆத்துமா புழுதிமட்டும் தாழ்ந்திருக்கிறது; எங்கள் வயிறு தரையோடு ஒட்டியிருக்கிறது. For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.

1 Thaevanae, engal pithaakkalutaiya naatkalaakiya poorvanaatkalil neer nadappiththa kiriyaikalai avarkal engalukku ariviththaarkal; avaikalai engal kaathukalaal kaettaோm. We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

2 Thaevareer ummutaiya kaiyinaalae jaathikalaith thuraththi, ivarkalai naatti; janangalaith thunpappaduththi, ivarkalaip paravappannnnineer. How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

3 Avarkal thangal pattayaththaal thaesaththaik kattikkollavillai; avarkal puyamum avarkalai iratchikkavillai; neer avarkalmael piriyamaayirunthapatiyaal, ummutaiya valathukaramum, ummutaiya puyamum, ummutaiya mukaththin pirakaasamum avarkalai iratchiththathu. 4 Thaevanae, neer en raajaa, yaakkopukku iratchippaik kattalaiyidum. Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.

5 Ummaalae engal saththurukkalaik geelae vilaththaakki engalukku virothamaay elumpukiravarkalai ummutaiya naamaththinaal mithippom. Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

6 En villai naan nampaen. En pattayam ennai iratchippathillai. For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

7 Neerae engal saththurukkalinintu engalai iratchiththu, engalaip pakaikkiravarkalai akappaduththineer. But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

8 Thaevanukkul niththam maenmai paaraattuvom; umathu naamaththai ententaikkum thuthippom.(selaa.) In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

9 Neer engalaith thallivittu, naanappannnukireer; engal senaikaludanae sellaathirukkireer. But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.

10 Saththuruvukku naangal itainthu pinnittuth thirumpippokap pannnukireer; engal pakainjar thangalukkentu engalaik kollaiyidukiraarkal. Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.

11 Neer engalai aadukalaippola iraiyaaka oppukkoduththu, jaathikalukkullae engalaich sitharatikkireer. Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.

12 Neer ummutaiya janangalai ilavasamaaka virkireer; avarkal kirayaththinaal umakku laapamillaiyae. Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.

13 Engal ayalaarukku engalai ninthaiyaakavum, engal suttaுppuraththaarukkup pariyaasamum sakkanthamumaakavum vaikkireer. Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

14 Naangal jaathikalukkullae palamoliyaayirukkavum janangal engalaikkuriththuth thalaithulukkavum seykireer. Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.

15 Ninthiththuth thooshikkiravanutaiya saththaththinimiththamum, saththuruvinimiththamum, palivaangukiravanimiththamum, My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,

16 En ilachchaை niththam enakku munpaaka irukkirathu; en mukaththin vetkam ennai moodukirathu. For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.

17 Ivaiyellaam engalmael vanthirunthum, ummai naangal marakkavum illai. Ummutaiya udanpatikkaikkuth thurokampannnavum illai. All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

18 Neer engalai valusarppangalulla idaththilae noraுkki, marana irulinaalae engalai mootiyirunthum, Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;

19 Engal iruthayam pinvaangavumillai, engal kaalati ummutaiya paathaiyai vittu vilakavum illai. Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.

20 Naangal engal thaevanutaiya naamaththai maranthu, anniyathaevanai Nnokkik kaiyeduththirunthomaanaal, If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

21 Dhevan athai aaraaynthu, visaariyaathiruppaaro? Iruthayaththin antharangakalai avar arinthirukkiraarae. Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

22 Umathu nimiththam ennaeramum kollappadukirom; atikkappadum aadukalaippola ennnappadukirom. Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

23 Aanndavarae, viliththukkollum; aen niththirai pannnukireer? Eluntharulum, engalai entaikkum thallividaathirum. Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.

24 Aen ummutaiya mukaththai maraiththu, engal siraுmaiyaiyum engal nerukkaththaiyum maranthuvidukireer? Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?

25 Engal aaththumaa puluthimattum thaalnthirukkirathu; engal vayiraு tharaiyodu ottiyirukkirathu. For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
