ஆகையால் என்ன சொல்லுவோம்? நியாயப்பிரமாணம் பாவமோ? அல்லவே. பாவம் இன்னதென்று நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தினால் நான் அறிந்தேனேயன்றி மற்றப்படி அறியவில்லை; இச்சியாதிருப்பாயாக என்று நியாயப்பிரமாணம் சொல்லாதிருந்தால், இச்சை பாவம் என்று நான் அறியாமலிருப்பேனே.

எனவே, என்னசொல்லுவோம்? நியாயப்பிரமாணம் பாவமோ? இல்லையே, பாவம் என்னவென்று நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தினால்தான் நான் தெரிந்துகொண்டேனேதவிர மற்றப்படி இல்லை; இச்சிக்காமல் இருப்பாயாக என்று நியாயப்பிரமாணம் சொல்லாதிருந்தால், இச்சை பாவம் என்று நான் தெரியாமல் இருப்பேனே.

சட்டவிதியையும் பாவத்தையும் நான் ஒரே விதமாக நினைப்பதாக நீங்கள் எண்ணக் கூடும். அது உண்மையல்ல. ஆனால் சட்ட விதியின் மூலமாகவே நான் பாவமென்றால் என்னவென்று புரிந்துகொண்டேன். “பிறர் பொருள் மேல் ஆசைப்படாமல் இருங்கள்” என்று சட்டவிதி சொல்லாமல் இருந்தால் அது பாவம் என்று எனக்கு தெரியாமல் போயிருக்கும்.
