1 அக்காலத்திலே யூதா தன் சகோதரரை விட்டு, அதுல்லாம் ஊரானாகிய ஈரா என்னும் ஒரு மனிதனிடத்தில் போய்ச்சேர்ந்தான். And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

2 அங்கே யூதா, சூவா என்னும் பேருள்ள ஒரு கானானியனுடைய குமாரத்தியைக் கண்டு, அவளை விவாகம்பண்ணி, அவளோடே சேர்ந்தான். And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

3 அவள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்; அவனுக்கு ஏர் என்று பேரிட்டான். And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.

4 அவள் மறுபடியும் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று, அவனுக்கு ஓனான் என்று பேரிட்டாள். And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

5 அவள் மறுபடியும் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று, அவனுக்குச் சேலா என்று பேரிட்டாள்; அவள் இவனைப் பெறுகிறபோது, அவன் கெசீபிலே இருந்தான். And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.

6 யூதா தன் மூத்தமகனாகிய ஏர் என்பவனுக்குத் தாமார் என்னும் பேருள்ள ஒரு பெண்ணைக் கொண்டான். And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.

7 யூதாவின் மூத்தமகனாகிய ஏர் என்பவன் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாதவனாயிருந்ததினால், கர்த்தர் அவனை அழித்துப் போட்டார். And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

8 அப்பொழுது யூதா ஓனானை நோக்கி: நீ உன் தமையன் மனைவியைச் சேர்ந்து, அவனை மைத்துனச் சுதந்தரமாய்ப் படைத்து, உன் தமையனுக்குச் சந்ததியை உண்டாக்கு என்றான். And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

9 அந்தச் சந்ததி தன் சந்ததியாயிராதென்று ஓனான் அறிந்தபடியினாலே, அவன் தன் தமையனுடைய மனைவியைச் சேரும்போது, தன் தமையனுக்குச் சந்ததியுண்டாகாதபடிக்குத் தன் வித்தைத் தரையிலே விழவிட்டுக் கெடுத்தான். And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

10 அவன் செய்தது கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாததாயிருந்ததினால், அவனையும் அவர் அழித்துப்போட்டார். And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

11 அப்பொழுது யூதா, தன் குமாரனாகிய சேலாவும் அவன் சகோதரர் செத்ததுபோலச் சாவான் என்று அஞ்சி, தன் மருமகளான தாமாரை நோக்கி: என் குமாரனாகிய சேலா பெரியவனாகுமட்டும், நீ உன் தகப்பன் வீட்டிலே கைம்பெண்ணாய்த் தங்கியிரு என்று சொன்னான்; அந்தப்படியே தாமார் போய்த் தன் தகப்பன் வீட்டிலே தங்கியிருந்தாள். Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

12 அநேகநாள் சென்றபின், சூவாவின் குமாரத்தியாகிய யூதாவின் மனைவி மரித்தாள். யூதாவினுடைய துக்கம் ஆறினபின், அவன் அதுல்லாம் ஊரானாகிய தன் சிநேகிதன் ஈராவுடனே திம்னாவிலே தன் ஆடுகளை மயிர்க்கத்தரிக்கிறவர்களிடத்திற்குப் போனான். And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

13 அப்பொழுது: உன் மாமனார் தம்முடைய ஆடுகளை மயிர்க்கத்தரிக்கத் திம்னாவுக்குப் போகிறார் என்று தாமாருக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது. And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

14 சேலா பெரியவனாகியும் தான் அவனுக்கு மனைவியாகக் கொடுக்கப்படவில்லை என்று அவள் கண்டபடியால், தன் கைம்பெண்மைக்குரிய வஸ்திரங்களைக் களைந்துபோட்டு, முக்காடிட்டுத் தன்னை மூடிக்கொண்டு, திம்னாவுக்குப் போகிற வழியிலிருக்கிற நீரூற்றுகளுக்கு முன்பாக உட்கார்ந்தாள். And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.

15 யூதா அவளைக் கண்டு, அவள் தன் முகத்தை மூடியிருந்தபடியால், அவள் ஒரு வேசி என்று நினைத்து, When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.

16 அந்த வழியாய் அவளிடத்தில் போய், அவள் தன் மருமகள் என்று அறியாமல்: நான் உன்னிடத்தில் சேரும்படி வருவாயா என்றான்; அதற்கு அவள்: நீர் என்னிடத்தில் சேரும்படி, எனக்கு என்ன தருவீர் என்றாள். And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?

17 அதற்கு அவன்: நான் மந்தையிலிருந்து ஒரு வெள்ளாட்டுக் குட்டியை அனுப்புகிறேன் என்றான். அதற்கு அவள்: நீர் அதை அனுப்புமளவும் ஒரு அடைமானம் கொடுப்பீரா என்றாள். And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?

18 அப்பொழுது அவன்: நான் உனக்கு அடைமானமாக என்ன கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு அவள்: உம்முடைய முத்திரை மோதிரமும் உம்முடைய ஆரமும் உம்முடைய கைக்கோலும் கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்றாள். அவன் அவைகளை அவளுக்குக் கொடுத்து, அவளிடத்தில் சேர்ந்தான்; அவள் அவனாலே கர்ப்பவதியாகி, And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

19 எழுந்துபோய், தன் முக்காட்டைக் களைந்து, தன் கைம்பெண்மைக்குரிய வஸ்திரங்களை உடுத்திக்கொண்டாள். And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

20 யூதா அந்த ஸ்திரீயினிடத்தில் இருந்த அடைமானத்தை வாங்கிக்கொண்டு வரும்படி அதுல்லாம் ஊரானாகிய தன் சிநேகிதன் கையிலே ஒரு வெள்ளாட்டுக்குட்டியைக் கொடுத்தனுப்பினான்; அவன் அவளைக் காணாமல், And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand: but he found her not.

21 அவ்விடத்து மனிதரை நோக்கி: வழியண்டை நீரூற்றுகள் அருகே இருந்த தாசி எங்கே என்று கேட்டான்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: இங்கே தாசி இல்லை என்றார்கள். Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.

22 அவன் யூதாவினிடத்தில் திரும்பி வந்து: அவளைக் காணோம், அங்கே தாசி இல்லையென்று அவ்விடத்து மனிதரும் சொல்லுகிறார்கள் என்றான். And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.

23 அப்பொழுது யூதா: இதோ, இந்த ஆட்டுக்குட்டியை அனுப்பினேன், நீ அவளைக் காணவில்லை; நமக்கு அவகீர்த்தி வராதபடிக்கு, அவள் அதைக் கொண்டுபோனால் போகட்டும் என்றான். And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.

1 Akkaalaththilae yoothaa than sakothararai vittu, athullaam ooraanaakiya eeraa ennum oru manithanidaththil poychchaேrnthaan. And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

2 Angae yoothaa, soovaa ennum paerulla oru kaanaaniyanutaiya kumaaraththiyaik kanndu, avalai vivaakampannnni, avalotae sernthaan. And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

3 Aval karppavathiyaaki oru kumaaranaip pettaாl; avanukku aer entu paerittan. And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.

4 Aval maraுpatiyum karppavathiyaaki oru kumaaranaip pettaு, avanukku onaan entu paerittal. And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

5 Aval maraுpatiyum karppavathiyaaki oru kumaaranaip pettaு, avanukkuch selaa entu paerittal; aval ivanaip peraுkirapothu, avan keseepilae irunthaan. And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.

6 Yoothaa than mooththamakanaakiya aer enpavanukkuth thaamaar ennum paerulla oru pennnnaik konndaan. And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.

7 Yoothaavin mooththamakanaakiya aer enpavan karththarin paarvaikkup pollaathavanaayirunthathinaal, Karththar avanai aliththup pottar. And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

8 Appoluthu yoothaa onaanai Nnokki: nee un thamaiyan manaiviyaich sernthu, avanai maiththunach suthantharamaayp pataiththu, un thamaiyanukkuch santhathiyai unndaakku entan. And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

9 Anthach santhathi than santhathiyaayiraathentu onaan arinthapatiyinaalae, avan than thamaiyanutaiya manaiviyaich serumpothu, than thamaiyanukkuch santhathiyunndaakaathapatikkuth than viththaith tharaiyilae vilavittuk keduththaan. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

10 Avan seythathu karththarin paarvaikkup pollaathathaayirunthathinaal, avanaiyum avar aliththuppottar. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

11 Appoluthu yoothaa, than kumaaranaakiya selaavum avan sakotharar seththathupolach saavaan entu anji, than marumakalaana thaamaarai Nnokki: en kumaaranaakiya selaa periyavanaakumattum, nee un thakappan veettilae kaimpennnnaayth thangiyiru entu sonnaan; anthappatiyae thaamaar poyth than thakappan veettilae thangiyirunthaal. Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

12 Anaekanaal sentapin, soovaavin kumaaraththiyaakiya yoothaavin manaivi mariththaal. Yoothaavinutaiya thukkam aarinapin, avan athullaam ooraanaakiya than sinaekithan eeraavudanae thimnaavilae than aadukalai mayirkkaththarikkiravarkalidaththirkup ponaan. And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

13 Appoluthu: un maamanaar thammutaiya aadukalai mayirkkaththarikkath thimnaavukkup pokiraar entu thaamaarukku arivikkappattathu. And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

14 Selaa periyavanaakiyum thaan avanukku manaiviyaakak kodukkappadavillai entu aval kanndapatiyaal, than kaimpennmaikkuriya vasthirangalaik kalainthupottu, mukkaatittuth thannai mootikkonndu, thimnaavukkup pokira valiyilirukkira neeroottaுkalukku munpaaka utkaarnthaal. And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.

15 Yoothaa avalaik kanndu, aval than mukaththai mootiyirunthapatiyaal, aval oru vaesi entu ninaiththu, When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.

16 Antha valiyaay avalidaththil poy, aval than marumakal entu ariyaamal: naan unnidaththil serumpati varuvaayaa entan; atharku aval: neer ennidaththil serumpati, enakku enna tharuveer ental. And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?

17 Atharku avan: naan manthaiyilirunthu oru vellaattuk kuttiyai anuppukiraேn entan. Atharku aval: neer athai anuppumalavum oru ataimaanam koduppeeraa ental. And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?

18 Appoluthu avan: naan unakku ataimaanamaaka enna kodukkavaenndum entu kaettan. Atharku aval: ummutaiya muththirai mothiramum ummutaiya aaramum ummutaiya kaikkolum kodukkavaenndum ental. Avan avaikalai avalukkuk koduththu, avalidaththil sernthaan; aval avanaalae karppavathiyaaki, And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

19 Elunthupoy, than mukkaattaைk kalainthu, than kaimpennmaikkuriya vasthirangalai uduththikkonndaal. And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

20 Yoothaa antha sthireeyinidaththil iruntha ataimaanaththai vaangikkonndu varumpati athullaam ooraanaakiya than sinaekithan kaiyilae oru vellaattukkuttiyaik koduththanuppinaan; avan avalaik kaannaamal, And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand: but he found her not.

21 Avvidaththu manitharai Nnokki: valiyanntai neeroottaுkal arukae iruntha thaasi engae entu kaettan; atharku avarkal: ingae thaasi illai entarkal. Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.

22 Avan yoothaavinidaththil thirumpi vanthu: avalaik kaannom, angae thaasi illaiyentu avvidaththu manitharum sollukiraarkal entan. And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.

23 Appoluthu yoothaa: itho, intha aattukkuttiyai anuppinaen, nee avalaik kaanavillai; namakku avageerththi varaathapatikku, aval athaik konnduponaal pokattum entan. And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.
