பின்னும் கரேயாவின் குமாரனாகிய யோகனான் மிஸ்பாவிலே கெதலியாவோடே இரகசியமாய்ப் பேசி: நான் போய் ஒருவரும் அறியாமல் நெத்தானியாவின் குமாரனாகிய இஸ்மவேலை வெட்டிப்போட உத்தரவாகவேண்டும்; உம்மிடத்தில் சேர்ந்த யூதரெல்லாரும் சிதறுண்டுபோகவும் யூதாவில் மீந்தவர்கள் அழியவும் அவன் உம்மைக் கொன்றுபோடவேண்டியதென்ன என்றான்.

பிறகு கரேயாவின் மகனான யோகனான் மிஸ்பாவில் கெதலியாவிடம் தனியாகப் பேசினான். யோகனான் கெதலியாவிடம், “நான் போய் நெத்தானியாவின் மகனாகிய இஸ்மவேலைக் கொல்லட்டுமா? இதைப்பற்றி எவரும் அறிந்துக் கொள்ளமாட்டார்கள். இஸ்மவேல் உன்னைக் கொல்லும்படி விடக்கூடாது. அது மீண்டும் உன்னைச் சுற்றியுள்ள அனைத்து யூதா ஜனங்களையும் பல்வேறு நாடுகளுக்குச் சிதறும்படிச் செய்யும். அதாவது யூதாவின் சில மீந்தவர்களும் அழியும்படி நேரும்” என்றான்.

பின்னர் காரயாகின் மகன் யோகனான் மிஸ்பாவில் கெதலியாவிடம் தனியாகச் சென்று, “நான் போய், நெத்தனியாவின் மகன் இஸ்மயேலைக் கொல்ல எனக்கு அனுமதி கொடும். அது யாருக்கும் தெரியவராது. உம்மை ஏன் அவன் கொலைசெய்யவேண்டும்? அதனால் உம் பொறுப்பில் கூடி வாழும் யூதா நாட்டினர் அனைவரும் சிதறிப் போவார்கள்; யூதாவின் எஞ்சினோரும் அழிவார்களே!” என்று சொன்னான்.⒫
