1 நியாயாதிபதிகள் நியாயம் விசாரித்துவரும் நாட்களில், தேசத்திலே பஞ்சம் உண்டாயிற்று; அப்பொழுது யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் ஊரானாகிய ஒரு மனுஷன் தன் மனைவியோடும் இரண்டு குமாரரோடுங்கூட மோவாப் தேசத்திலே போய்ச் சஞ்சரித்தான். Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.

2 அந்த மனுஷனுடைய பேர் எலிமெலேக்கு, அவன் மனைவியின் பேர் நகோமி, அவனுடைய இரண்டு குமாரரில் ஒருவன் பேர் மக்லோன், மற்றொருவன் பேர் கிலியோன்; யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் ஊராகிய எப்பிராத்தியராகிய அவர்கள் மோவாப்தேசத்திற்குப் போய், அங்கே இருந்துவிட்டார்கள். And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.

3 நகோமியின் புருஷனாகிய எலிமெலேக்கு இறந்துபோனான்; அவளும் அவளுடைய இரண்டு குமாரரும் மாத்திரம் இருந்தார்கள். And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.

4 இவர்கள் மோவாபியரில் பெண் கொண்டார்கள்; அவர்களில் ஒருத்தி பேர் ஒர்பாள், மற்றவள் பேர் ரூத்; அங்கே ஏறக்குறையப் பத்துவருஷம் வாசம் பண்ணினார்கள். And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.

6 கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய ஜனங்களைச் சந்தித்து, அவர்களுக்கு ஆகாரம் அருளினார் என்று அவள் மோவாப்தேசத்திலே கேள்விப்பட்டு, தன் மருமகளோடேகூட மோவாப் தேசத்திலிருந்து திரும்பிவரும்படி எழுந்து, Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.

7 தன் இரண்டு மருமக்களோடுங்கூடத் தானிருந்த ஸ்தலத்தை விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டாள். யூதாதேசத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போக, அவர்கள் வழிநடக்கையில், Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.

8 நகோமி தன் இரண்டு மருமக்களையும் நோக்கி: நீங்கள் இருவரும் உங்கள் தாய்வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போங்கள்; மரித்துப்போனவர்களுக்கும் எனக்கும் நீங்கள் தயைசெய்ததுபோல, கர்த்தர் உங்களுக்கும் தயைசெய்வாராக. And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me.

9 கர்த்தர் உங்கள் இருவருக்கும் வாய்க்கும் புருஷனுடைய வீட்டிலே நீங்கள் சுகமாய் வாழ்ந்திருக்கச் செய்வாராக என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களை முத்தமிட்டாள். அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் சத்தமிட்டு அழுது, அவளைப் பார்த்து: The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept.

10 உம்முடைய ஜனத்தண்டைக்கே உம்முடன்கூட வருவோம் என்றார்கள். And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people.

11 அதற்கு நகோமி: என் மக்களே, நீங்கள் திரும்பிப்போங்கள்; என்னோடே ஏன் வருகிறீர்கள்? உங்களுக்குப் புருஷராகும்படிக்கு, இனிமேல் என் கர்ப்பத்திலே எனக்குப் பிள்ளைகள் உண்டாகுமோ? And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?

12 என் மக்களே, திரும்பிப்போங்கள்; நான் வயதுசென்றவள்; ஒரு புருஷனுடன் வாழத்தக்கவளல்ல; அப்படிப்பட்ட நம்பிக்கை எனக்கு உண்டாயிருந்து, நான் இன்று இரவில் ஒரு புருஷனுக்கு வாழ்க்கைப்பட்டு, பிள்ளைகளைப் பெற்றாலும், Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;

13 அவர்கள் பெரியவர்களாகுமட்டும் புருஷருக்கு வாழ்க்கைப்படாதபடிக்கு நீங்கள் பொறுத்திருப்பீர்களோ? அது கூடாது; என் மக்களே, கர்த்தருடைய கை எனக்கு விரோதமாயிருக்கிறதினால், உங்கள்நிமித்தம் எனக்கு மிகுந்த விசனம் இருக்கிறது என்றாள். Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me.

14 அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் சத்தமிட்டு அதிகமாய் அழுதார்கள்; ஒர்பாள் தன் மாமியை முத்தமிட்டுப்போனாள்; ரூத்தோ அவளை விடாமல் பற்றிக் கொண்டாள். And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.

15 அப்பொழுது அவள்: இதோ, உன் சகோதரி தன் ஜனங்களிடத்துக்கும் தன் தேவர்களிடத்துக்கும் திரும்பிப் போய்விட்டாளே; நீயும் உன் சகோதரியின் பிறகே திரும்பிப்போ என்றாள். And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.

16 அதற்கு ரூத்: நான் உம்மைப் பின்பற்றாமல் உம்மைவிட்டுத் திரும்பிப் போவதைக்குறித்து, என்னோடே பேசவேண்டாம்; நீர் போகும் இடத்திற்கு நானும் வருவேன்; நீர் தங்கும் இடத்திலே நானும் தங்குவேன்; உம்முடைய ஜனம் என்னுடைய ஜனம்; உம்முடைய தேவன் என்னுடைய தேவன். And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

17 நீர் மரணமடையும் இடத்தில் நானும் மரணமடைந்து, அங்கே அடக்கம்பண்ணப்படுவேன்; மரணமேயல்லாமல் வேறொன்றும் உம்மை விட்டு என்னைப் பிரித்தால், கர்த்தர் அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் எனக்குச் செய்யக்கடவர் என்றாள். Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

18 அவள் தன்னோடேகூட வர மன உறுதியாயிருக்கிறதைக் கண்டு, அப்புறம் அதைக்குறித்து அவளோடே ஒன்றும் பேசவில்லை. When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.

19 அப்படியே இருவரும் பெத்லெகேம் மட்டும் நடந்துபோனார்கள்; அவர்கள் பெத்லெகேமுக்கு வந்தபோது, ஊரார் எல்லாரும் அவர்களைக் குறித்து ஆச்சரியப்பட்டு, இவள் நகோமியோ என்று பேசிக்கொண்டார்கள். So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?

20 அதற்கு அவள்: நீங்கள் என்னை நகோமி என்று சொல்லாமல், மாராள் என்று சொல்லுங்கள்; சர்வவல்லவர் எனக்கு மிகுந்த கசப்பைக் கட்டளையிட்டார். And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.

21 நான் நிறைவுள்ளவளாய்ப் போனேன்; கர்த்தர் என்னை வெறுமையாய்த் திரும்பிவரப்பண்ணினார்; கர்த்தர் என்னைச் சிறுமைப்படுத்தி, சர்வவல்லவர் என்னைக் கிலேசப்படுத்தியிருக்கையில், நீங்கள் என்னை நகோமி என்பானேன் என்றாள். I went out full and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?

22 இப்படி நகோமி மோவாபிய ஸ்திரீயான தன் மருமகள் ரூத்தோடுங்கூட மோவாப் தேசத்திலிருந்து திரும்பிவந்தாள்; வாற்கோதுமை அறுப்பின் துவக்கத்தில் அவர்கள் பெத்லெகேமுக்கு வந்தார்கள். So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.

1 Niyaayaathipathikal niyaayam visaariththuvarum naatkalil, thaesaththilae panjam unndaayittaு; appoluthu yoothaavilulla pethlekaem ooraanaakiya oru manushan than manaiviyodum iranndu kumaararodungaூda movaap thaesaththilae poych sanjariththaan. Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.

2 Antha manushanutaiya paer elimelaekku, avan manaiviyin paer nakomi, avanutaiya iranndu kumaararil oruvan paer maklon, mattaொruvan paer kiliyon; yoothaavilulla pethlekaem ooraakiya eppiraaththiyaraakiya avarkal movaapthaesaththirkup poy, angae irunthuvittarkal. And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.

3 Nakomiyin purushanaakiya elimelaekku iranthuponaan; avalum avalutaiya iranndu kumaararum maaththiram irunthaarkal. And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.

4 Ivarkal movaapiyaril penn konndaarkal; avarkalil oruththi paer orpaal, mattaval paer rooth; angae aerakkuraiyap paththuvarusham vaasam pannnninaarkal. And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.

5 Pinpu maklon kiliyon ennum avarkal iruvarum iranthuponaarkal; antha sthiree than kumaarar iruvaraiyum than purushanaiyum ilanthu thaniththavalaanaal. And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.

6 Karththar thammutaiya janangalaich santhiththu, avarkalukku aakaaram arulinaar entu aval movaapthaesaththilae kaelvippattu, than marumakalotaekooda movaap thaesaththilirunthu thirumpivarumpati elunthu, Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.

7 Than iranndu marumakkalodungaூdath thaaniruntha sthalaththai vittup purappattal. Yoothaathaesaththirkuth thirumpippoka, avarkal valinadakkaiyil, Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.

8 Nakomi than iranndu marumakkalaiyum Nnokki: neengal iruvarum ungal thaayveettukkuth thirumpippongal; mariththupponavarkalukkum enakkum neengal thayaiseythathupola, Karththar ungalukkum thayaiseyvaaraaka. And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me.

9 Karththar ungal iruvarukkum vaaykkum purushanutaiya veettilae neengal sukamaay vaalnthirukkach seyvaaraaka entu solli, avarkalai muththamittal. Appoluthu avarkal saththamittu aluthu, avalaip paarththu: The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept.

10 Ummutaiya janaththanntaikkae ummudankooda varuvom entarkal. And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people.

11 Atharku nakomi: en makkalae, neengal thirumpippongal; ennotae aen varukireerkal? Ungalukkup purusharaakumpatikku, inimael en karppaththilae enakkup pillaikal unndaakumo? And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?

12 En makkalae, thirumpippongal; naan vayathusentaval; oru purushanudan vaalaththakkavalalla; appatippatta nampikkai enakku unndaayirunthu, naan intu iravil oru purushanukku vaalkkaippattu, pillaikalaip pettaாlum, Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;

13 Avarkal periyavarkalaakumattum purusharukku vaalkkaippadaathapatikku neengal poraுththiruppeerkalo? Athu koodaathu; en makkalae, karththarutaiya kai enakku virothamaayirukkirathinaal, ungalnimiththam enakku mikuntha visanam irukkirathu ental. Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me.

14 Appoluthu avarkal saththamittu athikamaay aluthaarkal; orpaal than maamiyai muththamittupponaal; rooththo avalai vidaamal pattik konndaal. And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.

15 Appoluthu aval: itho, un sakothari than janangalidaththukkum than thaevarkalidaththukkum thirumpip poyvittalae; neeyum un sakothariyin pirakae thirumpippo ental. And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.

16 Atharku rooth: naan ummaip pinpattaாmal ummaivittuth thirumpip povathaikkuriththu, ennotae paesavaenndaam; neer pokum idaththirku naanum varuvaen; neer thangum idaththilae naanum thanguvaen; ummutaiya janam ennutaiya janam; ummutaiya Dhevan ennutaiya Dhevan. And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

17 Neer maranamataiyum idaththil naanum maranamatainthu, angae adakkampannnappaduvaen; maranamaeyallaamal vaerontum ummai vittu ennaip piriththaal, Karththar atharkuch sariyaakavum atharku athikamaakavum enakkuch seyyakkadavar ental. Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

18 Aval thannotaekooda vara mana uraுthiyaayirukkirathaik kanndu, appuram athaikkuriththu avalotae ontum paesavillai. When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.

19 Appatiyae iruvarum pethlekaem mattum nadanthuponaarkal; avarkal pethlekaemukku vanthapothu, ooraar ellaarum avarkalaik kuriththu aachchariyappattu, ival nakomiyo entu paesikkonndaarkal. So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?

20 Atharku aval: neengal ennai nakomi entu sollaamal, maaraal entu sollungal; sarvavallavar enakku mikuntha kasappaik kattalaiyittar. And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.

21 Naan niraivullavalaayp ponaen; Karththar ennai veraுmaiyaayth thirumpivarappannnninaar; Karththar ennaich siraுmaippaduththi, sarvavallavar ennaik kilaesappaduththiyirukkaiyil, neengal ennai nakomi enpaanaen ental. I went out full and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?

22 Ippati nakomi movaapiya sthireeyaana than marumakal rooththodungaூda movaap thaesaththilirunthu thirumpivanthaal; vaarkothumai araுppin thuvakkaththil avarkal pethlekaemukku vanthaarkal. So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
