பிள்ளைகள் இன்னும் பிறவாமலும், நல்வினை தீவினை ஒன்றும் செய்யாமலுமிருக்கையில், தேவனுடைய தெரிந்துகொள்ளுதலின்படியிருக்கிற அவருடைய தீர்மானம் கிரியைகளினாலே நிலைநிற்காமல் அழைக்கிறவராலே நிலைநிற்கும்படிக்கு,

இரு மகன்களும் பிறப்பதற்கு முன்பே தேவன் ரெபேக்காவிடம், “மூத்த மகன் இளையவனுக்கு சேவை செய்வான்” என்றார். அவர்கள் நல்லதோ தீயதோ எதுவாக இருந்தாலும் செய்வதற்கு முன்னரே தேவன் இவ்வாறு சொன்னார். இத்திட்டம் ஏற்கெனவே தேவனால் உருவாக்கப்பட்டது என்பதுதான் காரணம். தேவன் அவனைத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்க விரும்பினார். அதனால் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார். அதுதான் காரணமே தவிர பிள்ளைகள் ஏதோ செய்ததற்காக அல்ல.
