அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி: என் பாத்திரத்தில் நீங்கள் குடிப்பீர்கள், நான் பெறும் ஸ்நானத்தையும் நீங்கள் பெறுவீர்கள்; ஆனாலும் என் வலது பாரிசத்திலும் இடது பாரிசத்திலும் உட்கார்ந்திருக்கும்படி என் பிதாவினால் எவர்களுக்கு ஆயத்தம்பண்ணப்பட்டிருக்கிறதோ அவர்களுக்கேயல்லாமல், மற்றொருவருக்கும் அதை அருளுவது என் காரியமல்ல என்றார்.

இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “மெய்யாகவே எனக்கு ஏற்படும் துன்பம் உங்களுக்கும் ஏற்படும். ஆனால் என் வலது இடது பக்கங்களில் உட்காரப்போகிறவர்களை என்னால் முடிவு செய்ய இயலாது. அந்த இடம் யாருக்கு என்பதை என் பிதா முடிவு செய்துவிட்டார். அவர்களுக்காகவே அந்த இடங்களை அவர் தயார் செய்துள்ளார். அந்த இடங்கள் அவர்களுக்கே உரியவை” என்றார்.
