וַיַּשְׁכֵּם֩ rose early šākam יְהוֹשֻׁ֨עַ And Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ בַּבֹּ֜קֶר in the morning; bōqer וַיִּסְע֣וּ and they removed nāsaʿ מֵֽהַשִּׁטִּ֗ים from Shittim, šiṭṭîm וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ and came bôʾ עַד to ʿad הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן Jordan, yardēn ה֖וּא he hûʾ וְכָל and all kōl בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַיָּלִ֥נוּ and lodged lûn שָׁ֖ם there šām טֶ֥רֶם before ṭerem יַֽעֲבֹֽרוּ׃ they passed over. ʿābar

וַיְהִ֕י And it came to pass hāyâ מִקְצֵ֖ה after qāṣe שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת three šālôš יָמִ֑ים days, yôm וַיַּֽעַבְר֥וּ went ʿābar הַשֹּֽׁטְרִ֖ים that the officers šōṭēr בְּקֶ֥רֶב through qereb הַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃ the host; maḥăne

וַיְצַוּוּ֮ And they commanded ṣāwâ אֶת ʾēt הָעָ֣ם the people, ʿam לֵאמֹר֒ saying, ʾāmar כִּרְאֹֽתְכֶ֗ם When ye see rāʾâ אֵ֣ת ʾēt אֲר֤וֹן the ark ʾārôn בְּרִית of the covenant bĕrît יְהוָה֙ of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹ֣הֵיכֶ֔ם your God, ʾĕlōhîm וְהַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ and the priests kōhēn הַלְוִיִּ֔ם the Levites lēwiyyî נֹֽשְׂאִ֖ים bearing nāśāʾ אֹת֑וֹ ʾēt וְאַתֶּ֗ם it, then ye ʾattâ תִּסְעוּ֙ shall remove nāsaʿ מִמְּק֣וֹמְכֶ֔ם from your place, māqôm וַֽהֲלַכְתֶּ֖ם and go hālak אַֽחֲרָֽיו׃ after it. ʾaḥar

אַ֣ךְ׀ Yet ʾak רָח֣וֹק a space rāḥôq יִֽהְיֶ֗ה there shall be hāyâ בֵּֽינֵיכֶם֙ between bên וּבֵינָ֔וֹ bên כְּאַלְפַּ֥יִם you and it, about two thousand ʾelep אַמָּ֖ה cubits ʾammâ בַּמִּדָּ֑ה by measure: middâ אַֽל ʾal תִּקְרְב֣וּ come not near qārab אֵלָ֗יו unto ʾēl לְמַ֤עַן it, that maʿan אֲשֶׁר ʾăšer תֵּֽדְעוּ֙ ye may know yādaʿ אֶת ʾēt הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ the way derek אֲשֶׁ֣ר by which ʾăšer תֵּֽלְכוּ ye must go: hālak בָ֔הּ כִּ֣י for kî לֹ֧א ye have not lōʾ עֲבַרְתֶּ֛ם passed ʿābar בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ way derek מִתְּמ֥וֹל heretofore. tĕmôl שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם׃ šilšôm

וַיֹּ֧אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ And Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ אֶל unto ʾēl הָעָ֖ם the people, ʿam הִתְקַדָּ֑שׁוּ Sanctify yourselves: qādaš כִּ֣י for kî מָחָ֗ר to morrow māḥār יַֽעֲשֶׂ֧ה will do ʿāśâ יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּקִרְבְּכֶ֖ם among you. qereb נִפְלָאֽוֹת׃ wonders pālāʾ

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר spake ʾāmar יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ And Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ אֶל unto ʾēl הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֣ים the priests, kōhēn לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar שְׂאוּ֙ Take up nāśāʾ אֶת ʾēt אֲר֣וֹן the ark ʾārôn הַבְּרִ֔ית of the covenant, bĕrît וְעִבְר֖וּ and pass over ʿābar לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm הָעָ֑ם the people. ʿam וַיִּשְׂאוּ֙ And they took up nāśāʾ אֶת ʾēt אֲר֣וֹן the ark ʾārôn הַבְּרִ֔ית of the covenant, bĕrît וַיֵּֽלְכ֖וּ and went hālak לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm הָעָֽם׃ the people. ʿam

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ Joshua, yĕhôšûaʿ הַיּ֣וֹם day yôm הַזֶּ֗ה This ze אָחֵל֙ will I begin ḥālal גַּדֶּלְךָ֔ to magnify gādal בְּעֵינֵ֖י thee in the sight ʿayin כָּל of all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁר֙ that ʾăšer יֵֽדְע֔וּן they may know yādaʿ כִּ֗י that, kî כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer הָיִ֛יתִי I was hāyâ עִם with ʿim מֹשֶׁ֖ה Moses, mōše אֶֽהְיֶ֥ה I will be hāyâ עִמָּֽךְ׃ with thee. ʿim

וְאַתָּ֗ה And thou ʾattâ תְּצַוֶּה֙ shalt command ṣāwâ אֶת ʾēt הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים the priests kōhēn נֹֽשְׂאֵ֥י that bear nāśāʾ אֲרֽוֹן the ark ʾārôn הַבְּרִ֖ית of the covenant, bĕrît לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar כְּבֹֽאֲכֶ֗ם When ye are come bôʾ עַד to ʿad קְצֵה֙ the brink qāṣe מֵ֣י of the water mayim הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן of Jordan, yardēn בַּיַּרְדֵּ֖ן in Jordan. yardēn תַּֽעֲמֹֽדוּ׃ ye shall stand still ʿāmad

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ And Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ אֶל unto ʾēl בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl גֹּ֣שׁוּ Come hither, nāgaš הֵ֔נָּה hēnnâ וְשִׁמְע֕וּ and hear šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt דִּבְרֵ֖י the words dābār יְהוָ֥ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶֽם׃ your God. ʾĕlōhîm

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ And Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ בְּזֹאת֙ Hereby zōt תֵּֽדְע֔וּן ye shall know yādaʿ כִּ֛י that kî אֵ֥ל God ʾēl חַ֖י the living ḥay בְּקִרְבְּכֶ֑ם among qereb וְהוֹרֵ֣שׁ you, and he will without fail yāraš יוֹרִ֣ישׁ drive out yāraš מִ֠פְּנֵיכֶם from before pānîm אֶת you ʾēt הַכְּנַֽעֲנִ֨י the Canaanites, kĕnaʿanî וְאֶת ʾēt הַֽחִתִּ֜י and the Hittites, ḥittî וְאֶת ʾēt הַֽחִוִּ֗י and the Hivites, ḥiwwî וְאֶת ʾēt הַפְּרִזִּי֙ and the Perizzites, pĕrizzî וְאֶת ʾēt הַגִּרְגָּשִׁ֔י and the Girgashites, girgāšî וְהָֽאֱמֹרִ֖י and the Amorites, ʾĕmōrî וְהַיְבוּסִֽי׃ and the Jebusites. yĕbûsî

הִנֵּה֙ Behold, hinnē אֲר֣וֹן the ark ʾārôn הַבְּרִ֔ית of the covenant bĕrît אֲד֖וֹן of the Lord ʾādôn כָּל of all kōl הָאָ֑רֶץ the earth ʾereṣ עֹבֵ֥ר passeth over ʿābar לִפְנֵיכֶ֖ם before pānîm בַּיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ you into Jordan. yardēn

וְעַתָּ֗ה Now ʿattâ קְח֤וּ therefore take lāqaḥ לָכֶם֙ שְׁנֵ֣י you twelve šĕnayim עָשָׂ֣ר ʿāśār אִ֔ישׁ men ʾîš מִשִּׁבְטֵ֖י out of the tribes šēbeṭ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl אִישׁ a man. ʾîš אֶחָ֥ד out of every ʾeḥād אִישׁ ʾîš אֶחָ֖ד ʾeḥād לַשָּֽׁבֶט׃ tribe šēbeṭ

וְהָיָ֡ה And it shall come to pass, hāyâ כְּנ֣וֹחַ shall rest nûaḥ כַּפּ֣וֹת as soon as the soles kap רַגְלֵ֣י of the feet regel הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֡ים of the priests kōhēn נֹֽשְׂאֵי֩ that bear nāśāʾ אֲר֨וֹן the ark ʾārôn יְהוָ֜ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ אֲד֤וֹן the Lord ʾādôn כָּל of all kōl הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ the earth, ʾereṣ בְּמֵ֣י in the waters mayim הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן of Jordan, yardēn מֵ֤י the waters mayim הַיַּרְדֵּן֙ of Jordan yardēn יִכָּ֣רֵת֔וּן shall be cut off kārat הַמַּ֥יִם the waters mayim הַיֹּֽרְדִ֖ים that come down yārad מִלְמָ֑עְלָה from above; maʿal וְיַֽעַמְד֖וּ and they shall stand ʿāmad נֵ֥ד heap. nēd אֶחָֽד׃ upon an ʾeḥād

וַיְהִ֗י And it came to pass, hāyâ בִּנְסֹ֤עַ removed nāsaʿ הָעָם֙ when the people ʿam מֵאָ֣הֳלֵיהֶ֔ם from their tents, ʾōhel לַֽעֲבֹ֖ר to pass over ʿābar אֶת ʾēt הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן Jordan, yardēn וְהַכֹּֽהֲנִ֗ים and the priests kōhēn נֹֽשְׂאֵ֛י bearing nāśāʾ הָֽאָר֥וֹן the ark ʾārôn הַבְּרִ֖ית of the covenant bĕrît לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm הָעָֽם׃ the people; ʿam

וּכְב֞וֹא were come bôʾ נֹֽשְׂאֵ֤י And as they that bare nāśāʾ הָֽאָרוֹן֙ the ark ʾārôn עַד unto ʿad הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן Jordan, yardēn וְרַגְלֵ֤י and the feet regel הַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ of the priests kōhēn נֹֽשְׂאֵ֣י that bare nāśāʾ הָֽאָר֔וֹן the ark ʾārôn נִטְבְּל֖וּ were dipped ṭābal בִּקְצֵ֣ה in the brim qāṣe הַמָּ֑יִם of the water, mayim וְהַיַּרְדֵּ֗ן (for Jordan yardēn מָלֵא֙ overfloweth mālēʾ עַל ʿal כָּל all kōl גְּדוֹתָ֔יו his banks gādâ כֹּ֖ל all kōl יְמֵ֥י the time yôm קָצִֽיר׃ of harvest,) qāṣîr

וַיַּֽעַמְד֡וּ stood ʿāmad הַמַּיִם֩ That the waters mayim הַיֹּֽרְדִ֨ים which came down yārad מִלְמַ֜עְלָה from above maʿal קָ֣מוּ rose up qûm נֵד heap nēd אֶחָ֗ד upon an ʾeḥād הַרְחֵ֨ק far rāḥaq מְאֹ֜ד very mĕʾōd בֵֽאָדָ֤ם Adam, ʾādām הָעִיר֙ from the city ʿîr אֲשֶׁר֙ that ʾăšer מִצַּ֣ד beside ṣad צָֽרְתָ֔ן Zaretan: ṣortān וְהַיֹּֽרְדִ֗ים and those that came down yārad עַ֣ל toward ʿal יָ֧ם the sea yām הָֽעֲרָבָ֛ה of the plain, ʿărābâ יָם sea, yām הַמֶּ֖לַח the salt melaḥ תַּ֣מּוּ failed, tāmam נִכְרָ֑תוּ were cut off: kārat וְהָעָ֥ם and the people ʿam עָֽבְר֖וּ passed over ʿābar נֶ֥גֶד right against neged יְרִיחֽוֹ׃ Jericho. yĕrîḥô

וַיַּֽעַמְד֣וּ stood ʿāmad הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֡ים And the priests kōhēn נֹֽ֠שְׂאֵי that bare nāśāʾ הָֽאָר֨וֹן the ark ʾārôn בְּרִית of the covenant bĕrît יְהוָ֜ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ בֶּחָֽרָבָ֛ה on dry ground ḥārābâ בְּת֥וֹךְ in the midst tāwek הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן of Jordan, yardēn הָכֵ֑ן firm kûn וְכָל and all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל the Israelites yiśrāʾēl עֹֽבְרִים֙ passed over ʿābar בֶּחָ֣רָבָ֔ה on dry ground, ḥārābâ עַ֤ד until ʿad אֲשֶׁר ʾăšer תַּ֙מּוּ֙ clean tāmam כָּל all kōl הַגּ֔וֹי the people gôy לַֽעֲבֹ֖ר were passed ʿābar אֶת over ʾēt הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ Jordan. yardēn
