  1. וַיַּ֥עַן answered ʿānâ אִיּ֗וֹב And Job ʾiyyôb וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ and said, ʾāmar
  2. אָ֭מְנָם No doubt ʾomnām כִּ֣י but אַתֶּם ye ʾattâ עָ֑ם the people, ʿam וְ֝עִמָּכֶ֗ם with you. ʿim תָּמ֥וּת shall die mût חָכְמָֽה׃ and wisdom ḥokmâ
  3. גַּם But gam לִ֤י לֵבָ֨ב׀ I have understanding lēbāb כְּֽמוֹכֶ֗ם as well as you; kĕmô לֹא not lōʾ נֹפֵ֣ל inferior nāpal אָנֹכִ֣י I ʾānōkî מִכֶּ֑ם to min וְאֶת you: yea, ʾēt מִי who אֵ֥ין knoweth not ʾayin כְּמוֹ such things kĕmô אֵֽלֶּה׃ as these? ʾēlle
  4. שְׂחֹ֤ק one mocked śĕḥôq לְרֵעֵ֨הוּ׀ of his neighbour, rēaʿ אֶֽהְיֶ֗ה I am hāyâ קֹרֵ֣א who calleth qārāʾ לֶ֭אֱלוֹהַּ upon God, ʾĕlôah וַֽיַּעֲנֵ֑הוּ and he answereth ʿānâ שְׂ֝ח֗וֹק laughed to scorn. śĕḥôq צַדִּ֥יק him: the just ṣaddîq תָּמִֽים׃ upright tāmîm
  5. לַפִּ֣יד a lamp lappîd בּ֭וּז despised bûz לְעַשְׁתּ֣וּת in the thought ʿaštût שַׁאֲנָ֑ן of him that is at ease. šaʾănān נָ֝כ֗וֹן He that is ready kûn לְמ֣וֹעֲדֵי to slip māʿad רָֽגֶל׃ with feet regel
  6. יִשְׁלָ֤יוּ prosper, šālâ אֹֽהָלִ֨ים׀ The tabernacles ʾōhel לְשֹׁ֥דְדִ֗ים of robbers šādad וּֽ֭בַטֻּחוֹת are secure; baṭṭuḥôt לְמַרְגִּ֣יזֵי and they that provoke rāgaz אֵ֑ל God ʾēl לַאֲשֶׁ֤ר into whose ʾăšer הֵבִ֖יא bringeth bôʾ אֱל֣וֹהַּ God ʾĕlôah בְּיָדֽוֹ׃ hand yād
  7. וְֽאוּלָ֗ם But ʾûlām שְׁאַל ask šāʾal נָ֣א now nāʾ בְהֵמ֣וֹת the beasts, bĕhēmâ וְתֹרֶ֑ךָּ and they shall teach yārâ וְע֥וֹף thee; and the fowls ʿôp הַ֝שָּׁמַ֗יִם of the air, šāmayim וְיַגֶּד and they shall tell thee: nāgad לָֽךְ׃
  8. א֤וֹ Or ʾô שִׂ֣יחַ speak śîaḥ לָאָ֣רֶץ to the earth, ʾereṣ וְתֹרֶ֑ךָּ and it shall teach yārâ וִֽיסַפְּר֥וּ shall declare unto thee. sāpar לְ֝ךָ֗ דְּגֵ֣י thee: and the fishes dāg הַיָּֽם׃ of the sea yām
  9. מִ֭י Who לֹא not lōʾ יָדַ֣ע knoweth yādaʿ בְּכָל in all kōl אֵ֑לֶּה these ʾēlle כִּ֥י that יַד the hand yād יְ֝הוָ֗ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ עָ֣שְׂתָה hath wrought ʿāśâ זֹּֽאת׃ this? zōt
  10. אֲשֶׁ֣ר In whose ʾăšer בְּ֭יָדוֹ hand yād נֶ֣פֶשׁ the soul nepeš כָּל of every kōl חָ֑י living thing, ḥay וְ֝ר֗וּחַ and the breath rûaḥ כָּל of all kōl בְּשַׂר bāśār אִֽישׁ׃ mankind. ʾîš
  11. הֲלֹא Doth not lōʾ אֹ֭זֶן the ear ʾōzen מִלִּ֣ין words? millâ תִּבְחָ֑ן try bāḥan וְ֝חֵ֗ךְ and the mouth ḥēk אֹ֣כֶל his meat? ʾōkel יִטְעַם taste ṭāʿam לֽוֹ׃
  12. בִּֽישִׁישִׁ֥ים With the ancient yāšîš חָכְמָ֑ה wisdom; ḥokmâ וְאֹ֖רֶךְ and in length ʾōrek יָמִ֣ים of days yôm תְּבוּנָֽה׃ understanding. tābûn
  13. עִ֭מּוֹ With ʿim חָכְמָ֣ה him wisdom ḥokmâ וּגְבוּרָ֑ה and strength, gĕbûrâ ל֝֗וֹ עֵצָ֥ה he hath counsel ʿēṣâ וּתְבוּנָֽה׃ and understanding. tābûn
  14. הֵ֣ן Behold, hēn יַ֭הֲרוֹס he breaketh down, hāras וְלֹ֣א and it cannot lōʾ יִבָּנֶ֑ה be built again: bānâ יִסְגֹּ֥ר he shutteth up sāgar עַל ʿal אִ֝֗ישׁ a man, ʾîš וְלֹ֣א lōʾ יִפָּתֵֽחַ׃ and there can be no opening. pātaḥ
  15. הֵ֤ן Behold, hēn יַעְצֹ֣ר he withholdeth ʿāṣār בַּמַּ֣יִם the waters, mayim וְיִבָ֑שׁוּ and they dry up: yābēš וִֽ֝ישַׁלְּחֵ֗ם also he sendeth them out, šālaḥ וְיַ֖הַפְכוּ and they overturn hāpak אָֽרֶץ׃ the earth. ʾereṣ
  16. עִ֭מּוֹ With ʿim עֹ֣ז him strength ʿōz וְתֽוּשִׁיָּ֑ה and wisdom: tûšiyyâ ל֝֗וֹ שֹׁגֵ֥ג the deceived šāgag וּמַשְׁגֶּֽה׃ and the deceiver his. šāgâ
  17. מוֹלִ֣יךְ He leadeth hālak יוֹעֲצִ֣ים counsellers yāʿaṣ שׁוֹלָ֑ל away spoiled, šôlāl וְֽשֹׁפְטִ֥ים and maketh the judges šāpaṭ יְהוֹלֵֽל׃ fools. hālal
  18. מוּסַ֣ר the bond mûsār מְלָכִ֣ים of kings, melek פִּתֵּ֑חַ He looseth pātaḥ וַיֶּאְסֹ֥ר and girdeth ʾāsar אֵ֝ז֗וֹר with a girdle. ʾēzôr בְּמָתְנֵיהֶֽם׃ their loins mōten
  19. מוֹלִ֣יךְ He leadeth hālak כֹּהֲנִ֣ים princes kōhēn שׁוֹלָ֑ל away spoiled, šôlāl וְאֵֽתָנִ֣ים the mighty. ʾêtān יְסַלֵּֽף׃ and overthroweth sālap
  20. מֵסִ֣יר He removeth away sûr שָׂ֭פָה the speech śāpâ לְנֶאֱמָנִ֑ים of the trusty, ʾāman וְטַ֖עַם the understanding ṭaʿam זְקֵנִ֣ים of the aged. zāqēn יִקָּֽח׃ and taketh away lāqaḥ
  21. שׁוֹפֵ֣ךְ He poureth šāpak בּ֭וּז contempt bûz עַל upon ʿal נְדִיבִ֑ים princes, nādîb וּמְזִ֖יחַ the strength māzîaḥ אֲפִיקִ֣ים of the mighty. ʾāpîq רִפָּֽה׃ and weakeneth rāpâ
  22. מְגַלֶּ֣ה He discovereth gālâ עֲ֭מֻקוֹת deep things ʿāmōq מִנִּי out of min חֹ֑שֶׁךְ darkness, ḥōšek וַיֹּצֵ֖א and bringeth out yāṣāʾ לָא֣וֹר to light ʾôr צַלְמָֽוֶת׃ the shadow of death. ṣalmāwet
  23. מַשְׂגִּ֣יא He increaseth śāgāʾ לַ֭גּוֹיִם the nations, gôy וַֽיְאַבְּדֵ֑ם and destroyeth ʾābad שֹׁטֵ֥חַ them: he enlargeth šāṭaḥ לַ֝גּוֹיִ֗ם the nations, gôy וַיַּנְחֵֽם׃ and straiteneth them nāḥâ
  24. מֵסִ֗יר He taketh away sûr לֵ֭ב the heart lēb רָאשֵׁ֣י of the chief rōš עַם of the people ʿam הָאָ֑רֶץ of the earth, ʾereṣ וַ֝יַּתְעֵ֗ם and causeth them to wander tāʿâ בְּתֹ֣הוּ in a wilderness tōhû לֹא no lōʾ דָֽרֶךְ׃ way. derek
  25. יְמַֽשְׁשׁוּ They grope māšaš חֹ֥שֶׁךְ in the dark ḥōšek וְלֹא without lōʾ א֑וֹר light, ʾôr וַ֝יַּתְעֵ֗ם and he maketh them to stagger tāʿâ כַּשִּׁכּֽוֹר׃ like drunken šikkôr
