I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.

אֶת ʾēt ate
the earth, הָאָ֔רֶץ ʾereṣ eh-RETS
and, lo, וְהִנֵּה hinnē hee-NAY
without form, תֹ֖הוּ tōhû toh-HOO
and void; וָבֹ֑הוּ bōhû boh-HOO
וְאֶל ʾēl ale
and the heavens, הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם šāmayim sha-ma-YEEM
