הַדָּבָר֙ The word dābār אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer הָיָ֣ה came hāyâ אֶֽל to ʾēl יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ Jeremiah yirmĕyâ מֵאֵ֥ת from ʾēt יְהוָ֖ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

שִׁמְע֕וּ Hear šāmaʿ אֶת ye ʾēt דִּבְרֵ֖י the words dābār הַבְּרִ֣ית covenant, bĕrît הַזֹּ֑את of this zōt וְדִבַּרְתָּם֙ and speak dābar אֶל unto ʾēl אִ֣ישׁ the men ʾîš יְהוּדָ֔ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וְעַל and to ʿal יֹשְׁבֵ֖י the inhabitants yāšab יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ of Jerusalem; yĕrûšālaim

וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ And say ʾāmar אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם thou unto ʾēl כֹּֽה them, Thus kō אָמַ֥ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֣י God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel; yiśrāʾēl אָר֣וּר Cursed ʾārar הָאִ֔ישׁ the man ʾîš אֲשֶׁר֙ that ʾăšer לֹ֣א not lōʾ יִשְׁמַ֔ע obeyeth šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt דִּבְרֵ֖י the words dābār הַבְּרִ֥ית covenant, bĕrît הַזֹּֽאת׃ of this zōt

אֲשֶׁ֣ר Which ʾăšer צִוִּ֣יתִי I commanded ṣāwâ אֶת ʾēt אֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֡ם your fathers ʾāb בְּי֣וֹם in the day yôm הוֹצִיאִֽי I brought them forth yāṣāʾ אוֹתָ֣ם ʾēt מֵאֶֽרֶץ out of the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַיִם֩ of Egypt, miṣrayim מִכּ֨וּר furnace, kûr הַבַּרְזֶ֜ל from the iron barzel לֵאמֹ֗ר saying, ʾāmar שִׁמְע֤וּ Obey šāmaʿ בְקוֹלִי֙ my voice, qôl וַעֲשִׂיתֶ֣ם and do ʿāśâ אוֹתָ֔ם ʾēt כְּכֹ֥ל them, according to all kōl אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer אֲצַוֶּ֖ה I command ṣāwâ אֶתְכֶ֑ם ʾēt וִהְיִ֤יתֶם you: so shall ye be hāyâ לִי֙ לְעָ֔ם my people, ʿam וְאָ֣נֹכִ֔י and I ʾānōkî אֶהְיֶ֥ה will be hāyâ לָכֶ֖ם לֵאלֹהִֽים׃ your God: ʾĕlōhîm

לְמַעַן֩ That maʿan הָקִ֨ים I may perform qûm אֶת ʾēt הַשְּׁבוּעָ֜ה the oath šĕbûʿâ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer נִשְׁבַּ֣עְתִּי I have sworn šābaʿ לַאֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֗ם unto your fathers, ʾāb לָתֵ֤ת to give nātan לָהֶם֙ hēm אֶ֣רֶץ them a land ʾereṣ זָבַ֥ת flowing zûb חָלָ֛ב with milk ḥālāb וּדְבַ֖שׁ and honey, dĕbaš כַּיּ֣וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּ֑ה as this ze וָאַ֥עַן Then answered ʿānâ וָאֹמַ֖ר I, and said, ʾāmar אָמֵ֥ן׀ So be it, ʾāmēn יְהוָֽה׃ O Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָה֙ Then the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֔י unto ʾēl קְרָ֨א me, Proclaim qārāʾ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַדְּבָרִ֤ים words dābār הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ these ʾēlle בְּעָרֵ֣י in the cities ʿîr יְהוּדָ֔ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וּבְחֻצ֥וֹת and in the streets ḥûṣ יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם of Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar שִׁמְע֗וּ Hear šāmaʿ אֶת ye ʾēt דִּבְרֵי֙ the words dābār הַבְּרִ֣ית covenant, bĕrît הַזֹּ֔את of this zōt וַעֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם and do them. ʿāśâ אוֹתָֽם׃ ʾēt

כִּי֩ For kî הָעֵ֨ד I earnestly ʿûd הַעִדֹ֜תִי protested ʿûd בַּאֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֗ם unto your fathers ʾāb בְּיוֹם֩ in the day yôm הַעֲלוֹתִ֨י I brought them up ʿālâ אוֹתָ֜ם ʾēt מֵאֶ֤רֶץ out of the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ of Egypt, miṣrayim וְעַד unto ʿad הַיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַזֶּ֔ה this ze הַשְׁכֵּ֥ם rising early šākam וְהָעֵ֖ד and protesting, ʿûd לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar שִׁמְע֖וּ Obey šāmaʿ בְּקוֹלִֽי׃ my voice. qôl

וְלֹ֤א not, lōʾ שָֽׁמְעוּ֙ Yet they obeyed šāmaʿ וְלֹֽא nor lōʾ הִטּ֣וּ inclined nāṭâ אֶת ʾēt אָזְנָ֔ם their ear, ʾōzen וַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּ but walked hālak אִ֕ישׁ every one ʾîš בִּשְׁרִיר֖וּת in the imagination šĕrîrût לִבָּ֣ם heart: lēb הָרָ֑ע of their evil raʿ וָאָבִ֨יא therefore I will bring bôʾ עֲלֵיהֶ֜ם upon ʿal אֶֽת them ʾēt כָּל all kōl דִּבְרֵ֧י the words dābār הַבְּרִית covenant, bĕrît הַזֹּ֛את of this zōt אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer צִוִּ֥יתִי I commanded ṣāwâ לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת to do; ʿāśâ וְלֹ֥א lōʾ עָשֽׂוּ׃ but they did not. ʿāśâ

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָ֖ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלָ֑י unto ʾēl נִֽמְצָא is found māṣāʾ קֶ֙שֶׁר֙ me, A conspiracy qešer בְּאִ֣ישׁ among the men ʾîš יְהוּדָ֔ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וּבְיֹשְׁבֵ֖י and among the inhabitants yāšab יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ of Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim

שָׁ֩בוּ֩ They are turned back šûb עַל to ʿal עֲוֹנֹ֨ת the iniquities ʿāwōn אֲבוֹתָ֜ם ʾāb הָרִֽאשֹׁנִ֗ים of their forefathers, riʾšôn אֲשֶׁ֤ר which ʾăšer מֵֽאֲנוּ֙ refused māʾēn לִשְׁמ֣וֹעַ to hear šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt דְּבָרַ֔י my words; dābār וְהֵ֣מָּה and they hēm הָלְכ֗וּ went hālak אַחֲרֵ֛י after ʾaḥar אֱלֹהִ֥ים gods ʾĕlōhîm אֲחֵרִ֖ים other ʾaḥēr לְעָבְדָ֑ם to serve ʿābad הֵפֵ֤רוּ have broken pārar בֵֽית them: the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl וּבֵ֣ית and the house bayit יְהוּדָ֔ה of Judah yĕhûdâ אֶת ʾēt בְּרִיתִ֕י my covenant bĕrît אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer כָּרַ֖תִּי I made kārat אֶת with ʾēt אֲבוֹתָֽם׃ their fathers. ʾāb

לָכֵ֗ן Therefore kēn כֹּ֚ה thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ הִנְנִ֨י Behold, hēn מֵבִ֤יא I will bring bôʾ אֲלֵיהֶם֙ upon ʾēl רָעָ֔ה evil raʿ אֲשֶׁ֥ר them, which ʾăšer לֹֽא they shall not lōʾ יוּכְל֖וּ be able yākōl לָצֵ֣את to escape; yāṣāʾ מִמֶּ֑נָּה min וְזָעֲק֣וּ and though they shall cry zāʿaq אֵלַ֔י unto ʾēl וְלֹ֥א me, I will not lōʾ אֶשְׁמַ֖ע hearken šāmaʿ אֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ unto them. ʾēl

וְהָֽלְכ֞וּ go, hālak עָרֵ֣י Then shall the cities ʿîr יְהוּדָ֗ה of Judah yĕhûdâ וְיֹשְׁבֵי֙ and inhabitants yāšab יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם of Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim וְזָֽעֲקוּ֙ and cry zāʿaq אֶל unto ʾēl הָ֣אֱלֹהִ֔ים the gods ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁ֛ר unto whom ʾăšer הֵ֥ם they hēm מְקַטְּרִ֖ים offer incense: qāṭar לָהֶ֑ם וְהוֹשֵׁ֛עַ save yāšaʿ לֹֽא but they shall not lōʾ יוֹשִׁ֥יעוּ them at all yāšaʿ לָהֶ֖ם בְּעֵ֥ת in the time ʿēt רָעָתָֽם׃ of their trouble. raʿ

כִּ֚י For kî מִסְפַּ֣ר the number mispār עָרֶ֔יךָ of thy cities ʿîr הָי֥וּ were hāyâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy gods, ʾĕlōhîm יְהוּדָ֑ה O Judah; yĕhûdâ וּמִסְפַּ֞ר and the number mispār חֻצ֣וֹת of the streets ḥûṣ יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם of Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim שַׂמְתֶּ֤ם have ye set up śûm מִזְבְּחוֹת֙ altars mizbēaḥ לַבֹּ֔שֶׁת to shameful thing, bōšet מִזְבְּח֖וֹת altars mizbēaḥ לְקַטֵּ֥ר to burn incense qāṭar לַבָּֽעַל׃ unto Baal. baʿal

וְאַתָּ֗ה thou ʾattâ אַל not ʾal תִּתְפַּלֵּל֙ Therefore pray pālal בְּעַד for bĕʿad הָעָ֣ם people, ʿam הַזֶּ֔ה this ze וְאַל neither ʾal תִּשָּׂ֥א lift up nāśāʾ בַעֲדָ֖ם for them: bĕʿad רִנָּ֣ה a cry rinnâ וּתְפִלָּ֑ה or prayer tĕpillâ כִּ֣י׀ for kî אֵינֶ֣נִּי I will not ʾayin שֹׁמֵ֗עַ hear šāmaʿ בְּעֵ֛ת in the time ʿēt קָרְאָ֥ם that they cry qārāʾ אֵלַ֖י unto ʾēl בְּעַ֥ד me for bĕʿad רָעָתָֽם׃ their trouble. raʿ

מֶ֣ה What mâ לִֽידִידִ֞י hath my beloved yĕdîd בְּבֵיתִ֗י to do in mine house, bayit עֲשׂוֹתָ֤הּ she hath wrought ʿāśâ הַֽמְזִמָּ֙תָה֙ lewdness mĕzimmâ הָֽרַבִּ֔ים with many, rab וּבְשַׂר flesh bāśār קֹ֖דֶשׁ and the holy qōdeš יַעַבְר֣וּ is passed ʿābar מֵֽעָלָ֑יִךְ from ʿal כִּ֥י thee? when kî רָעָתֵ֖כִי thou doest evil, raʿ אָ֥ז then ʾāz תַּעֲלֹֽזִי׃ thou rejoicest. ʿālaz

זַ֤יִת olive tree, zayit רַֽעֲנָן֙ A green raʿănān יְפֵ֣ה fair, yāpe פְרִי fruit: pĕrî תֹ֔אַר of goodly tōʾar קָרָ֥א called qārāʾ יְהוָ֖ה The Lord yĕhōwâ שְׁמֵ֑ךְ thy name, šēm לְק֣וֹל׀ with the noise qôl הֲמוּלָּ֣ה tumult hămullâ גְדֹלָ֗ה of a great gādôl הִצִּ֥ית he hath kindled yāṣat אֵשׁ֙ fire ʾēš עָלֶ֔יהָ upon ʿal וְרָע֖וּ of it are broken. rāʿaʿ דָּלִיּוֹתָֽיו׃ it, and the branches dāliyyâ

וַיהוָ֤ה For the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָאוֹת֙ of hosts, ṣābāʾ הַנּוֹטֵ֣עַ that planted nāṭaʿ אוֹתָ֔ךְ ʾēt דִּבֶּ֥ר thee, hath pronounced dābar עָלַ֖יִךְ against ʿal רָעָ֑ה evil raʿ בִּ֠גְלַל thee, for gālāl רָעַ֨ת the evil raʿ בֵּֽית of the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl וּבֵ֣ית and of the house bayit יְהוּדָ֗ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer עָשׂ֥וּ they have done ʿāśâ לָהֶ֛ם hēm לְהַכְעִסֵ֖נִי against themselves to provoke me to anger kaʿas לְקַטֵּ֥ר in offering incense qāṭar לַבָּֽעַל׃ unto Baal. baʿal

וַֽיהוָ֥ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ הֽוֹדִיעַ֖נִי hath given me knowledge yādaʿ וָֽאֵדָ֑עָה and I know yādaʿ אָ֖ז then ʾāz הִרְאִיתַ֥נִי thou shewedst rāʾâ מַעַלְלֵיהֶֽם׃ me their doings. maʿălāl

וַאֲנִ֕י But I ʾănî כְּכֶ֥בֶשׂ like a lamb kebeś אַלּ֖וּף an ox ʾallûp יוּבַ֣ל is brought yābal לִטְב֑וֹחַ to the slaughter; ṭābaḥ וְלֹֽא not lōʾ יָדַ֜עְתִּי and I knew yādaʿ כִּֽי that kî עָלַ֣י׀ against ʿal חָשְׁב֣וּ they had devised ḥāšab מַחֲשָׁב֗וֹת devices maḥăšābâ נַשְׁחִ֨יתָה me, Let us destroy šāḥat עֵ֤ץ the tree ʿēṣ בְּלַחְמוֹ֙ with the fruit leḥem וְנִכְרְתֶ֙נּוּ֙ thereof, and let us cut him off kārat מֵאֶ֣רֶץ from the land ʾereṣ חַיִּ֔ים of the living, ḥay וּשְׁמ֖וֹ that his name šēm לֹֽא may be no lōʾ יִזָּכֵ֥ר remembered. zākar עֽוֹד׃ more ʿôd

וַֽיהוָ֤ה But, O Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָאוֹת֙ of hosts, ṣābāʾ שֹׁפֵ֣ט that judgest šāpaṭ צֶ֔דֶק righteously, ṣedeq בֹּחֵ֥ן that triest bāḥan כְּלָי֖וֹת the reins kilyâ וָלֵ֑ב and the heart, lēb אֶרְאֶ֤ה let me see rāʾâ נִקְמָֽתְךָ֙ thy vengeance nĕqāmâ מֵהֶ֔ם hēm כִּ֥י on them: for kî אֵלֶ֖יךָ unto ʾēl גִּלִּ֥יתִי thee have I revealed gālâ אֶת ʾēt רִיבִֽי׃ my cause. rîb

לָכֵ֗ן Therefore kēn כֹּֽה thus kō אָמַ֤ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ עַל of ʿal אַנְשֵׁ֣י the men ʾîš עֲנָת֔וֹת of Anathoth, ʿănātôt הַֽמְבַקְשִׁ֥ים that seek bāqaš אֶֽת ʾēt נַפְשְׁךָ֖ thy life, nepeš לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar לֹ֤א not lōʾ תִנָּבֵא֙ Prophesy nābāʾ בְּשֵׁ֣ם in the name šēm יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְלֹ֥א not lōʾ תָמ֖וּת that thou die mût בְּיָדֵֽנוּ׃ by our hand: yād

לָכֵ֗ן Therefore kēn כֹּ֤ה thus kō אָמַר֙ saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֔וֹת of hosts, ṣābāʾ הִנְנִ֥י Behold, hēn פֹקֵ֖ד I will punish pāqad עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם ʿal הַבַּֽחוּרִים֙ them: the young men bāḥûr יָמֻ֣תוּ shall die mût בַחֶ֔רֶב by the sword; ḥereb בְּנֵיהֶם֙ their sons bēn וּבְנ֣וֹתֵיהֶ֔ם and their daughters bat יָמֻ֖תוּ shall die mût בָּרָעָֽב׃ by famine: rāʿāb

וּשְׁאֵרִ֕ית remnant šĕʾērît לֹ֥א no lōʾ תִֽהְיֶ֖ה And there shall be hāyâ לָהֶ֑ם כִּֽי of them: for kî אָבִ֥יא I will bring bôʾ רָעָ֛ה evil raʿ אֶל upon ʾēl אַנְשֵׁ֥י the men ʾîš עֲנָת֖וֹת of Anathoth, ʿănātôt שְׁנַ֥ת the year šāne פְּקֻדָּתָֽם׃ of their visitation. pĕquddâ
