וַיְהִ֥י was hāyâ כָל And the whole kōl הָאָ֖רֶץ earth ʾereṣ שָׂפָ֣ה language, śāpâ אֶחָ֑ת of one ʾeḥād וּדְבָרִ֖ים speech. dābār אֲחָדִֽים׃ and of one ʾeḥād

וַיְהִ֖י And it came to pass, hāyâ בְּנָסְעָ֣ם as they journeyed nāsaʿ מִקֶּ֑דֶם from the east, qedem וַֽיִּמְצְא֥וּ that they found māṣāʾ בִקְעָ֛ה a plain biqʿâ בְּאֶ֥רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ שִׁנְעָ֖ר of Shinar; šinʿār וַיֵּ֥שְׁבוּ and they dwelt yāšab שָֽׁם׃ there. šām

וַיֹּֽאמְר֞וּ And they said ʾāmar אִ֣ישׁ one ʾîš אֶל to ʾēl רֵעֵ֗הוּ another, rēaʿ הָ֚בָה Go to, yāhab נִלְבְּנָ֣ה let us make lāban לְבֵנִ֔ים brick, lĕbēnâ וְנִשְׂרְפָ֖ה and burn śārap לִשְׂרֵפָ֑ה them throughly. śĕrēpâ וַתְּהִ֨י And they had hāyâ לָהֶ֤ם הַלְּבֵנָה֙ brick lĕbēnâ לְאָ֔בֶן for stone, ʾeben וְהַ֣חֵמָ֔ר and slime ḥēmār הָיָ֥ה had hāyâ לָהֶ֖ם לַחֹֽמֶר׃ they for morter. ḥōmer

וַיֹּֽאמְר֞וּ And they said, ʾāmar הָ֣בָה׀ Go to, yāhab נִבְנֶה let us build bānâ לָּ֣נוּ עִ֗יר us a city ʿîr וּמִגְדָּל֙ and a tower, migdāl וְרֹאשׁ֣וֹ whose top rōš בַשָּׁמַ֔יִם unto heaven; šāmayim וְנַֽעֲשֶׂה and let us make ʿāśâ לָּ֖נוּ שֵׁ֑ם us a name, šēm פֶּן lest pēn נָפ֖וּץ we be scattered abroad pûṣ עַל upon ʿal פְּנֵ֥י the face pānîm כָל of the whole kōl הָאָֽרֶץ׃ earth. ʾereṣ

וַיֵּ֣רֶד came down yārad יְהוָ֔ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ לִרְאֹ֥ת to see rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt הָעִ֖יר the city ʿîr וְאֶת ʾēt הַמִּגְדָּ֑ל and the tower, migdāl אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer בָּנ֖וּ builded. bānâ בְּנֵ֥י the children bēn הָֽאָדָֽם׃ of men ʾādām

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar יְהוָ֗ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ הֵ֣ן Behold, hēn עַ֤ם the people ʿam אֶחָד֙ one, ʾeḥād וְשָׂפָ֤ה language; śāpâ אַחַת֙ one ʾeḥād לְכֻלָּ֔ם and they have all kōl וְזֶ֖ה and this ze הַֽחִלָּ֣ם they begin ḥālal לַֽעֲשׂ֑וֹת to do: ʿāśâ וְעַתָּה֙ and now ʿattâ לֹֽא nothing lōʾ יִבָּצֵ֣ר will be restrained bāṣar מֵהֶ֔ם hēm כֹּ֛ל kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר from which ʾăšer יָֽזְמ֖וּ them, they have imagined zāmam לַֽעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ to do. ʿāśâ

הָ֚בָה Go to, yāhab נֵֽרְדָ֔ה let us go down, yārad וְנָֽבְלָ֥ה confound bālal שָׁ֖ם and there šām שְׂפָתָ֑ם their language, śāpâ אֲשֶׁר֙ that ʾăšer לֹ֣א they may not lōʾ יִשְׁמְע֔וּ understand šāmaʿ אִ֖ישׁ one ʾĕnôš שְׂפַ֥ת speech. śāpâ רֵעֵֽהוּ׃ another's rēaʿ

וַיָּ֨פֶץ scattered them abroad pûṣ יְהוָ֥ה So the Lord yĕhōwâ אֹתָ֛ם ʾēt מִשָּׁ֖ם from thence šām עַל upon ʿal פְּנֵ֣י the face pānîm כָל of all kōl הָאָ֑רֶץ the earth: ʾereṣ וַֽיַּחְדְּל֖וּ and they left off ḥādal לִבְנֹ֥ת to build bānâ הָעִֽיר׃ the city. ʿîr

עַל ʿal כֵּ֞ן Therefore kēn קָרָ֤א of it called qārāʾ שְׁמָהּ֙ is the name šēm בָּבֶ֔ל Babel; bābel כִּי because kî שָׁ֛ם did there šām בָּלַ֥ל confound bālal יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ שְׂפַ֣ת the language śāpâ כָּל of all kōl הָאָ֑רֶץ the earth: ʾereṣ וּמִשָּׁם֙ and from thence šām הֱפִיצָ֣ם did scatter them pûṣ יְהוָ֔ה the Lord yĕhōwâ עַל abroad upon ʿal פְּנֵ֖י the face pānîm כָּל of all kōl הָאָֽרֶץ׃ the earth. ʾereṣ

אֵ֚לֶּה These ʾēlle תּֽוֹלְדֹ֣ת the generations tôlĕdâ שֵׁ֔ם of Shem: šēm שֵׁ֚ם Shem šēm בֶּן old, bēn מְאַ֣ת an hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָ֔ה years šāne וַיּ֖וֹלֶד and begat yālad אֶת ʾēt אַרְפַּכְשָׁ֑ד Arphaxad ʾarpakšad שְׁנָתַ֖יִם two years šāne אַחַ֥ר after ʾaḥar הַמַּבּֽוּל׃ the flood: mabbûl

וַֽיְחִי lived ḥāyâ שֵׁ֗ם And Shem šēm אַֽחֲרֵי֙ after ʾaḥar הֽוֹלִיד֣וֹ he begat yālad אֶת ʾēt אַרְפַּכְשָׁ֔ד Arphaxad ʾarpakšad חֲמֵ֥שׁ five ḥāmēš מֵא֖וֹת hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֥וֹלֶד and begat yālad בָּנִ֖ים sons bēn וּבָנֽוֹת׃ and daughters. bat

וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁ֣ד And Arphaxad ʾarpakšad חַ֔י lived ḥāyâ חָמֵ֥שׁ five ḥāmēš וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים and thirty šĕlôšîm שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֖וֹלֶד and begat yālad אֶת ʾēt שָֽׁלַח׃ Salah: šelaḥ

וַיְחִ֣י lived ḥāyâ אַרְפַּכְשַׁ֗ד And Arphaxad ʾarpakšad אַֽחֲרֵי֙ after ʾaḥar הֽוֹלִיד֣וֹ he begat yālad אֶת ʾēt שֶׁ֔לַח Salah šelaḥ שָׁלֹ֣שׁ and three šālôš שָׁנִ֔ים šāne וְאַרְבַּ֥ע four ʾarbaʿ מֵא֖וֹת hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֥וֹלֶד and begat yālad בָּנִ֖ים sons bēn וּבָנֽוֹת׃ and daughters. bat

וְשֶׁ֥לַח And Salah šelaḥ חַ֖י lived ḥāyâ שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים thirty šĕlôšîm שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֖וֹלֶד and begat yālad אֶת ʾēt עֵֽבֶר׃ Eber: ʿēbēr

וַֽיְחִי lived ḥāyâ שֶׁ֗לַח And Salah šelaḥ אַֽחֲרֵי֙ after ʾaḥar הֽוֹלִיד֣וֹ he begat yālad אֶת ʾēt עֵ֔בֶר Eber ʿēbēr שָׁלֹ֣שׁ and three šālôš שָׁנִ֔ים šāne וְאַרְבַּ֥ע four ʾarbaʿ מֵא֖וֹת hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֥וֹלֶד and begat yālad בָּנִ֖ים sons bēn וּבָנֽוֹת׃ and daughters. bat

וַֽיְחִי lived ḥāyâ עֵ֕בֶר And Eber ʿēbēr אַרְבַּ֥ע four ʾarbaʿ וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים and thirty šĕlôšîm שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֖וֹלֶד and begat yālad אֶת ʾēt פָּֽלֶג׃ Peleg: peleg

וַֽיְחִי lived ḥāyâ עֵ֗בֶר And Eber ʿēbēr אַֽחֲרֵי֙ after ʾaḥar הֽוֹלִיד֣וֹ he begat yālad אֶת ʾēt פֶּ֔לֶג Peleg peleg שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים and thirty šĕlôšîm שָׁנָ֔ה šāne וְאַרְבַּ֥ע four ʾarbaʿ מֵא֖וֹת hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֥וֹלֶד and begat yālad בָּנִ֖ים sons bēn וּבָנֽוֹת׃ and daughters. bat

וַֽיְחִי lived ḥāyâ פֶ֖לֶג And Peleg peleg שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים thirty šĕlôšîm שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֖וֹלֶד and begat yālad אֶת ʾēt רְעֽוּ׃ Reu: rĕʿû

וַֽיְחִי lived ḥāyâ פֶ֗לֶג And Peleg peleg אַֽחֲרֵי֙ after ʾaḥar הֽוֹלִיד֣וֹ he begat yālad אֶת ʾēt רְע֔וּ Reu rĕʿû תֵּ֥שַׁע and nine tēšaʿ שָׁנִ֖ים šāne וּמָאתַ֣יִם two hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֥וֹלֶד and begat yālad בָּנִ֖ים sons bēn וּבָנֽוֹת׃ and daughters. bat

וַיְחִ֣י lived ḥāyâ רְע֔וּ And Reu rĕʿû שְׁתַּ֥יִם two šĕnayim וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים and thirty šĕlôšîm שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֖וֹלֶד and begat yālad אֶת ʾēt שְׂרֽוּג׃ Serug: śĕrûg

וַיְחִ֣י lived ḥāyâ רְע֗וּ And Reu rĕʿû אַֽחֲרֵי֙ after ʾaḥar הֽוֹלִיד֣וֹ he begat yālad אֶת ʾēt שְׂר֔וּג Serug śĕrûg שֶׁ֥בַע and seven šebaʿ שָׁנִ֖ים šāne וּמָאתַ֣יִם two hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֥וֹלֶד and begat yālad בָּנִ֖ים sons bēn וּבָנֽוֹת׃ and daughters. bat

וַיְחִ֥י lived ḥāyâ שְׂר֖וּג And Serug śĕrûg שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים thirty šĕlôšîm שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֖וֹלֶד and begat yālad אֶת ʾēt נָחֽוֹר׃ Nahor: nāḥôr

וַיְחִ֣י lived ḥāyâ שְׂר֗וּג And Serug śĕrûg אַֽחֲרֵ֛י after ʾaḥar הֽוֹלִיד֥וֹ he begat yālad אֶת ʾēt נָח֖וֹר Nahor nāḥôr מָאתַ֣יִם two hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֥וֹלֶד and begat yālad בָּנִ֖ים sons bēn וּבָנֽוֹת׃ and daughters. bat

וַיְחִ֣י lived ḥāyâ נָח֔וֹר And Nahor nāḥôr תֵּ֥שַׁע nine tēšaʿ וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים and twenty ʿeśrîm שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֖וֹלֶד and begat yālad אֶת ʾēt תָּֽרַח׃ Terah: teraḥ

וַיְחִ֣י lived ḥāyâ נָח֗וֹר And Nahor nāḥôr אַֽחֲרֵי֙ after ʾaḥar הֽוֹלִיד֣וֹ he begat yālad אֶת ʾēt תֶּ֔רַח Terah teraḥ תְּשַֽׁע tēšaʿ עֶשְׂרֵ֥ה and nineteen ʿāśār שָׁנָ֖ה šāne וּמְאַ֣ת an hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֥וֹלֶד and begat yālad בָּנִ֖ים sons bēn וּבָנֽוֹת׃ and daughters. bat

וַֽיְחִי lived ḥāyâ תֶ֖רַח And Terah teraḥ שִׁבְעִ֣ים seventy šibʿîm שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיּ֙וֹלֶד֙ and begat yālad אֶת ʾēt אַבְרָ֔ם Abram, ʾabrām אֶת ʾēt נָח֖וֹר Nahor, nāḥôr וְאֶת ʾēt הָרָֽן׃ and Haran. hārān

וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ Now these ʾēlle תּֽוֹלְדֹ֣ת the generations tôlĕdâ תֶּ֔רַח of Terah: teraḥ תֶּ֚רַח Terah teraḥ הוֹלִ֣יד begat yālad אֶת ʾēt אַבְרָ֔ם Abram, ʾabrām אֶת ʾēt נָח֖וֹר Nahor, nāḥôr וְאֶת ʾēt הָרָ֑ן and Haran; hārān וְהָרָ֖ן and Haran hārān הוֹלִ֥יד begat yālad אֶת ʾēt לֽוֹט׃ Lot. lôṭ

וַיָּ֣מָת died mût הָרָ֔ן And Haran hārān עַל ʿal פְּנֵ֖י before pānîm תֶּ֣רַח Terah teraḥ אָבִ֑יו his father ʾāb בְּאֶ֥רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ מֽוֹלַדְתּ֖וֹ of his nativity, môledet בְּא֥וּר in Ur ʾûr כַּשְׂדִּֽים׃ of the Chaldees. kaśdî

וַיִּקַּ֨ח took lāqaḥ אַבְרָ֧ם And Abram ʾabrām וְנָח֛וֹר and Nahor nāḥôr לָהֶ֖ם נָשִׁ֑ים them wives: ʾiššâ שֵׁ֤ם the name šēm אֵֽשֶׁת wife ʾiššâ אַבְרָם֙ of Abram's ʾabrām שָׂרָ֔י Sarai; śāray וְשֵׁ֤ם and the name šēm אֵֽשֶׁת wife, ʾiššâ נָחוֹר֙ of Nahor's nāḥôr מִלְכָּ֔ה Milcah, milkâ בַּת the daughter bat הָרָ֥ן of Haran, hārān אֲבִֽי the father ʾāb מִלְכָּ֖ה of Milcah, milkâ וַֽאֲבִ֥י and the father ʾāb יִסְכָּֽה׃ of Iscah. yiskâ

וַתְּהִ֥י was hāyâ שָׂרַ֖י But Sarai śāray עֲקָרָ֑ה barren; ʿāqār אֵ֥ין she no ʾayin לָ֖הּ וָלָֽד׃ child. wālād

וַיִּקַּ֨ח took lāqaḥ תֶּ֜רַח And Terah teraḥ אֶת ʾēt אַבְרָ֣ם Abram ʾabrām בְּנ֗וֹ his son, bēn וְאֶת ʾēt ל֤וֹט and Lot lôṭ בֶּן the son bēn הָרָן֙ of Haran hārān בֶּן his son's bēn בְּנ֔וֹ son, bēn וְאֵת֙ ʾēt שָׂרַ֣י and Sarai śāray כַּלָּת֔וֹ his daughter in law, kallâ אֵ֖שֶׁת wife; ʾiššâ אַבְרָ֣ם Abram's ʾabrām בְּנ֑וֹ his son bēn וַיֵּֽצְא֨וּ and they went forth yāṣāʾ אִתָּ֜ם with ʾēt מֵא֣וּר them from Ur ʾûr כַּשְׂדִּ֗ים of the Chaldees, kaśdî לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ to go hālak אַ֣רְצָה into the land ʾereṣ כְּנַ֔עַן of Canaan; kĕnaʿan וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ and they came bôʾ עַד unto ʿad חָרָ֖ן Haran, ḥārān וַיֵּ֥שְׁבוּ and dwelt yāšab שָֽׁם׃ there. šām

וַיִּֽהְי֣וּ were hāyâ יְמֵי And the days yôm תֶ֔רַח of Terah teraḥ חָמֵ֥שׁ and five ḥāmēš שָׁנִ֖ים šāne וּמָאתַ֣יִם two hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָ֑ה years: šāne וַיָּ֥מָת died mût תֶּ֖רַח and Terah teraḥ בְּחָרָֽן׃ in Haran. ḥārān
