וַיְהִ֣י׀ Now it came to pass hāyâ בִּשְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים in the thirtieth šĕlôšîm שָׁנָ֗ה year, šāne בָּֽרְבִיעִי֙ in the fourth rĕbîʿî בַּחֲמִשָּׁ֣ה in the fifth ḥāmēš לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ of the month, ḥōdeš וַאֲנִ֥י as I ʾănî בְתֽוֹךְ among tāwek הַגּוֹלָ֖ה the captives gôlâ עַל by ʿal נְהַר the river nāhār כְּבָ֑ר of Chebar, kĕbār נִפְתְּחוּ֙ were opened, pātaḥ הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם the heavens šāmayim וָאֶרְאֶ֖ה and I saw rāʾâ מַרְא֥וֹת visions marʾâ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ of God. ʾĕlōhîm

בַּחֲמִשָּׁ֖ה In the fifth ḥāmēš לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ of the month, ḥōdeš הִ֚יא which hûʾ הַשָּׁנָ֣ה year šāne הַחֲמִישִׁ֔ית the fifth ḥămîšî לְגָל֖וּת captivity, gālût הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ of king melek יוֹיָכִֽין׃ Jehoiachin's yôyākîn

הָיֹ֣ה came expressly hāyâ הָיָ֣ה hāyâ דְבַר The word dābār יְ֠הוָה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl יְחֶזְקֵ֨אל Ezekiel yĕḥezqēl בֶּן the son bēn בּוּזִ֧י of Buzi, bûzî הַכֹּהֵ֛ן the priest, kōhēn בְּאֶ֥רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ כַּשְׂדִּ֖ים of the Chaldeans kaśdî עַל by ʿal נְהַר the river nāhār כְּבָ֑ר Chebar; kĕbār וַתְּהִ֥י was hāyâ עָלָ֛יו upon him. ʿal שָׁ֖ם there šām יַד and the hand yād יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord yĕhōwâ

וָאֵ֡רֶא And I looked, rāʾâ וְהִנֵּה֩ and, behold, hinnē ר֨וּחַ a whirlwind rûaḥ סְעָרָ֜ה saʿar בָּאָ֣ה came bôʾ מִן out of min הַצָּפ֗וֹן the north, ṣāpôn עָנָ֤ן cloud, ʿānān גָּדוֹל֙ a great gādôl וְאֵ֣שׁ and a fire ʾēš מִתְלַקַּ֔חַת infolding itself, lāqaḥ וְנֹ֥גַֽהּ and a brightness nōgah ל֖וֹ סָבִ֑יב about sābîb וּמִ֨תּוֹכָ֔הּ it, and out of the midst tāwek כְּעֵ֥ין thereof as the colour ʿayin הַחַשְׁמַ֖ל of amber, ḥašmal מִתּ֥וֹךְ out of the midst tāwek הָאֵֽשׁ׃ of the fire. ʾēš

וּמִ֨תּוֹכָ֔הּ Also out of the midst tāwek דְּמ֖וּת thereof the likeness dĕmût אַרְבַּ֣ע of four ʾarbaʿ חַיּ֑וֹת living creatures. ḥay וְזֶה֙ And this ze מַרְאֵֽיהֶ֔ן their appearance; marʾe דְּמ֥וּת had the likeness dĕmût אָדָ֖ם of a man. ʾādām לָהֵֽנָּה׃ they hēnnâ

וְאַרְבָּעָ֥ה had four ʾarbaʿ פָנִ֖ים faces, pānîm לְאֶחָ֑ת And every one ʾeḥād וְאַרְבַּ֥ע had four ʾarbaʿ כְּנָפַ֖יִם wings. kānāp לְאַחַ֥ת and every one ʾeḥād לָהֶֽם׃

וְרַגְלֵיהֶ֖ם And their feet regel רֶ֣גֶל feet; regel יְשָׁרָ֑ה straight yāšār וְכַ֣ף and the sole kap רַגְלֵיהֶ֗ם of their feet regel כְּכַף֙ like the sole kap רֶ֣גֶל foot: regel עֵ֔גֶל of a calf's ʿēgel וְנֹ֣צְצִ֔ים and they sparkled nāṣaṣ כְּעֵ֖ין like the colour ʿayin נְחֹ֥שֶׁת brass. nĕḥōšet קָלָֽל׃ of burnished qālāl

וִידֵ֣ו And the hands yād אָדָ֗ם of a man ʾādām מִתַּ֙חַת֙ under taḥat כַּנְפֵיהֶ֔ם their wings kānāp עַ֖ל on ʿal אַרְבַּ֣עַת their four ʾarbaʿ רִבְעֵיהֶ֑ם sides; rebaʿ וּפְנֵיהֶ֥ם had their faces pānîm וְכַנְפֵיהֶ֖ם and their wings. kānāp לְאַרְבַּעְתָּֽם׃ and they four ʾarbaʿ

חֹֽבְרֹ֛ת joined ḥābar אִשָּׁ֥ה one ʾiššâ אֶל to ʾēl אֲחוֹתָ֖הּ another; ʾāḥôt כַּנְפֵיהֶ֑ם Their wings kānāp לֹא not lōʾ יִסַּ֣בּוּ they turned sābab בְלֶכְתָּ֔ן when they went; hālak אִ֛ישׁ every one ʾîš אֶל ʾēl עֵ֥בֶר straight ʿēber פָּנָ֖יו forward. pānîm יֵלֵֽכוּ׃ they went hālak

וּדְמ֣וּת As for the likeness dĕmût פְּנֵיהֶם֮ of their faces, pānîm פְּנֵ֣י had the face pānîm אָדָם֒ of a man, ʾādām וּפְנֵ֨י and the face pānîm אַרְיֵ֤ה of a lion, ʾărî אֶל on ʾēl הַיָּמִין֙ the right side: yāmîn לְאַרְבַּעְתָּ֔ם they four ʾarbaʿ וּפְנֵי had the face pānîm שׁ֥וֹר of an ox šôr מֵֽהַשְּׂמֹ֖אול on the left side; śĕmōwl לְאַרְבַּעְתָּ֑ן and they four ʾarbaʿ וּפְנֵי also had the face pānîm נֶ֖שֶׁר of an eagle. nešer לְאַרְבַּעְתָּֽן׃ they four ʾarbaʿ

וּפְנֵיהֶ֕ם Thus their faces: pānîm וְכַנְפֵיהֶ֥ם and their wings kānāp פְּרֻד֖וֹת stretched pārad מִלְמָ֑עְלָה upward; maʿal לְאִ֗ישׁ of every one ʾîš שְׁ֚תַּיִם two šĕnayim חֹבְר֣וֹת joined ḥābar אִ֔ישׁ one to another, ʾîš וּשְׁתַּ֣יִם and two šĕnayim מְכַסּ֔וֹת covered kāsâ אֵ֖ת ʾēt גְּוִיֹתֵיהֶֽנָה׃ their bodies. gĕwiyyâ

וְאִ֛ישׁ every one ʾîš אֶל ʾēl עֵ֥בֶר straight ʿēber פָּנָ֖יו forward: pānîm יֵלֵ֑כוּ And they went hālak אֶ֣ל ʾēl אֲשֶׁר֩ whither ʾăšer יִֽהְיֶה was hāyâ שָׁ֨מָּה šām הָר֤וּחַ the spirit rûaḥ לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ to go, hālak יֵלֵ֔כוּ they went; hālak לֹ֥א not lōʾ יִסַּ֖בּוּ they turned sābab בְּלֶכְתָּֽן׃ when they went. hālak

וּדְמ֨וּת As for the likeness dĕmût הַחַיּ֜וֹת of the living creatures, ḥay מַרְאֵיהֶ֣ם their appearance marʾe כְּגַחֲלֵי coals geḥel אֵ֗שׁ of fire, ʾēš בֹּֽעֲרוֹת֙ like burning bāʿar כְּמַרְאֵ֣ה like the appearance marʾe הַלַּפִּדִ֔ים of lamps: lappîd הִ֕יא it hûʾ מִתְהַלֶּ֖כֶת went up and down hālak בֵּ֣ין among bên הַחַיּ֑וֹת the living creatures; ḥay וְנֹ֣גַהּ was bright, nōgah לָאֵ֔שׁ and the fire ʾēš וּמִן and out of min הָאֵ֖שׁ the fire ʾēš יוֹצֵ֥א went forth yāṣāʾ בָרָֽק׃ lightning. bārāq

וְהַחַיּ֖וֹת And the living creatures ḥay רָצ֣וֹא ran rāṣāʾ וָשׁ֑וֹב and returned šûb כְּמַרְאֵ֖ה as the appearance marʾe הַבָּזָֽק׃ of a flash of lightning. bāzāq

וָאֵ֖רֶא Now as I beheld rāʾâ הַחַיּ֑וֹת the living creatures, ḥay וְהִנֵּה֩ behold hinnē אוֹפַ֨ן wheel ʾôpān אֶחָ֥ד one ʾeḥād בָּאָ֛רֶץ upon the earth ʾereṣ אֵ֥צֶל by ʾēṣel הַחַיּ֖וֹת the living creatures, ḥay לְאַרְבַּ֥עַת with his four ʾarbaʿ פָּנָֽיו׃ faces. pānîm

מַרְאֵ֨ה The appearance marʾe הָאוֹפַנִּ֤ים of the wheels ʾôpān וּמַעֲשֵׂיהֶם֙ and their work maʿăśe כְּעֵ֣ין like unto the colour ʿayin תַּרְשִׁ֔ישׁ of a beryl: taršîš וּדְמ֥וּת likeness: dĕmût אֶחָ֖ד had one ʾeḥād לְאַרְבַּעְתָּ֑ן and they four ʾarbaʿ וּמַרְאֵיהֶם֙ and their appearance marʾe וּמַ֣עֲשֵׂיהֶ֔ם and their work maʿăśe כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר as ʾăšer יִהְיֶ֥ה it were hāyâ הָאוֹפַ֖ן a wheel ʾôpān בְּת֥וֹךְ in the middle tāwek הָאוֹפָֽן׃ of a wheel. ʾôpān

עַל upon ʿal אַרְבַּ֥עַת their four ʾarbaʿ רִבְעֵיהֶ֖ן sides: rebaʿ בְּלֶכְתָּ֣ם When they went, hālak יֵלֵ֑כוּ they went hālak לֹ֥א not lōʾ יִסַּ֖בּוּ they turned sābab בְּלֶכְתָּֽן׃ when they went. hālak

וְגַ֨בֵּיהֶ֔ן As for their rings, gab וְגֹ֥בַהּ they were so high gōbah לָהֶ֖ם hēm וְיִרְאָ֣ה that they were dreadful; yirʾâ לָהֶ֑ם hēm וְגַבֹּתָ֗ם and their rings gab מְלֵאֹ֥ת full mālēʾ עֵינַ֛יִם of eyes ʿayin סָבִ֖יב round about sābîb לְאַרְבַּעְתָּֽן׃ them four. ʾarbaʿ

וּבְלֶ֙כֶת֙ went, hālak הַֽחַיּ֔וֹת And when the living creatures ḥay יֵלְכ֥וּ went hālak הָאוֹפַנִּ֖ים the wheels ʾôpān אֶצְלָ֑ם by them: ʾēṣel וּבְהִנָּשֵׂ֤א were lifted up nāśāʾ הַֽחַיּוֹת֙ and when the living creatures ḥay מֵעַ֣ל from ʿal הָאָ֔רֶץ the earth, ʾereṣ יִנָּשְׂא֖וּ were lifted up. nāśāʾ הָאוֹפַנִּֽים׃ the wheels ʾôpān

עַ֣ל Whithersoever ʿal אֲשֶׁר֩ ʾăšer יִֽהְיֶה was hāyâ שָּׁ֨ם thither šām הָר֤וּחַ the spirit rûaḥ לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ to go, hālak יֵלֵ֔כוּ they went, hālak שָׁ֥מָּה šām הָר֖וּחַ spirit rûaḥ לָלֶ֑כֶת to go; hālak וְהָאוֹפַנִּ֗ים and the wheels ʾôpān יִנָּשְׂאוּ֙ were lifted up nāśāʾ לְעֻמָּתָ֔ם over against ʿummâ כִּ֛י them: for kî ר֥וּחַ the spirit rûaḥ הַחַיָּ֖ה of the living creature ḥay בָּאוֹפַנִּֽים׃ in the wheels. ʾôpān

בְּלֶכְתָּ֣ם When those went, hālak יֵלֵ֔כוּ went; hālak וּבְעָמְדָ֖ם and when those stood, ʿāmad יַֽעֲמֹ֑דוּ stood; ʿāmad וּֽבְהִנָּשְׂאָ֞ם and when those were lifted up nāśāʾ מֵעַ֣ל from ʿal הָאָ֗רֶץ the earth, ʾereṣ יִנָּשְׂא֤וּ were lifted up nāśāʾ הָאֽוֹפַנִּים֙ the wheels ʾôpān לְעֻמָּתָ֔ם over against ʿummâ כִּ֛י them: for kî ר֥וּחַ the spirit rûaḥ הַחַיָּ֖ה of the living creature ḥay בָּאוֹפַנִּֽים׃ in the wheels. ʾôpān

וּדְמ֞וּת And the likeness dĕmût עַל upon ʿal רָאשֵׁ֤י the heads rōš הַחַיָּה֙ of the living creature ḥay רָקִ֔יעַ of the firmament rāqîaʿ כְּעֵ֖ין as the colour ʿayin הַקֶּ֣רַח crystal, qeraḥ הַנּוֹרָ֑א of the terrible yārēʾ נָט֥וּי stretched forth nāṭâ עַל over ʿal רָאשֵׁיהֶ֖ם their heads rōš מִלְמָֽעְלָה׃ above. maʿal

וְתַ֙חַת֙ And under taḥat הָרָקִ֔יעַ the firmament rāqîaʿ כַּנְפֵיהֶ֣ם their wings kānāp יְשָׁר֔וֹת straight, yāšār אִשָּׁ֖ה the one ʾiššâ אֶל toward ʾēl אֲחוֹתָ֑הּ the other: ʾāḥôt לְאִ֗ישׁ every one ʾîš שְׁתַּ֤יִם had two, šĕnayim מְכַסּוֹת֙ which covered kāsâ לָהֵ֔נָּה on this side, hēnnâ וּלְאִ֗ישׁ and every one ʾîš שְׁתַּ֤יִם had two, šĕnayim מְכַסּוֹת֙ which covered kāsâ לָהֵ֔נָּה on that side, hēnnâ אֵ֖ת ʾēt גְּוִיֹּתֵיהֶֽם׃ their bodies. gĕwiyyâ

וָאֶשְׁמַ֣ע I heard šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt ק֣וֹל the noise qôl כַּנְפֵיהֶ֡ם of their wings, kānāp כְּקוֹל֩ like the noise qôl מַ֨יִם waters, mayim רַבִּ֤ים of great rab כְּקוֹל as the voice qôl שַׁדַּי֙ of the Almighty, šadday בְּלֶכְתָּ֔ם And when they went, hālak ק֥וֹל the voice qôl הֲמֻלָּ֖ה of speech, hămullâ כְּק֣וֹל as the noise qôl מַחֲנֶ֑ה of an host: maḥăne בְּעָמְדָ֖ם when they stood, ʿāmad תְּרַפֶּ֥ינָה they let down rāpâ כַנְפֵיהֶֽן׃ their wings. kānāp

וַיְהִי And there was hāyâ ק֕וֹל a voice qôl מֵעַ֕ל from ʿal לָרָקִ֖יעַ the firmament rāqîaʿ אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer עַל over ʿal רֹאשָׁ֑ם their heads, rōš בְּעָמְדָ֖ם when they stood, ʿāmad תְּרַפֶּ֥ינָה had let down rāpâ כַנְפֵיהֶֽן׃ their wings. kānāp

וּמִמַּ֗עַל And above maʿal לָרָקִ֙יעַ֙ the firmament rāqîaʿ אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer עַל over ʿal רֹאשָׁ֔ם their heads rōš כְּמַרְאֵ֥ה as the appearance marʾe אֶֽבֶן stone: ʾeben סַפִּ֖יר of a sapphire sappîr דְּמ֣וּת the likeness dĕmût כִּסֵּ֑א of a throne, kissēʾ וְעַל֙ and upon ʿal דְּמ֣וּת the likeness dĕmût הַכִּסֵּ֔א of the throne kissēʾ דְּמ֞וּת the likeness dĕmût כְּמַרְאֵ֥ה as the appearance marʾe אָדָ֛ם of a man ʾādām עָלָ֖יו upon it. ʿal מִלְמָֽעְלָה׃ above maʿal

וָאֵ֣רֶא׀ And I saw rāʾâ כְּעֵ֣ין as the colour ʿayin חַשְׁמַ֗ל of amber, ḥašmal כְּמַרְאֵה as the appearance marʾe אֵ֤שׁ of fire ʾēš בֵּֽית within bayit לָהּ֙ סָבִ֔יב round about sābîb מִמַּרְאֵ֥ה it, from the appearance marʾe מָתְנָ֖יו of his loins mōten וּלְמָ֑עְלָה even upward, maʿal וּמִמַּרְאֵ֤ה and from the appearance marʾe מָתְנָיו֙ of his loins mōten וּלְמַ֔טָּה even downward, maṭṭâ רָאִ֙יתִי֙ I saw rāʾâ כְּמַרְאֵה as it were the appearance marʾe אֵ֔שׁ of fire, ʾēš וְנֹ֥גַֽהּ and it had brightness nōgah ל֖וֹ סָבִֽיב׃ round about. sābîb

כְּמַרְאֵ֣ה As the appearance marʾe הַקֶּ֡שֶׁת of the bow qešet אֲשֶׁר֩ that ʾăšer יִֽהְיֶ֨ה is hāyâ בֶעָנָ֜ן in the cloud ʿānān בְּי֣וֹם in the day yôm הַגֶּ֗שֶׁם of rain, gešem כֵּ֣ן so kēn מַרְאֵ֤ה the appearance marʾe הַנֹּ֙גַהּ֙ of the brightness nōgah סָבִ֔יב round about. sābîb ה֕וּא This hûʾ מַרְאֵ֖ה the appearance marʾe דְּמ֣וּת of the likeness dĕmût כְּבוֹד of the glory kābôd יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord. yĕhōwâ וָֽאֶרְאֶה֙ And when I saw rāʾâ וָאֶפֹּ֣ל I fell nāpal עַל upon ʿal פָּנַ֔י my face, pānîm וָאֶשְׁמַ֖ע and I heard šāmaʿ ק֥וֹל a voice qôl מְדַבֵּֽר׃ of one that spake. dābar
