  1. וְזֹ֣את Now these zōt הַמִּצְוָ֗ה the commandments, miṣwâ הַֽחֻקִּים֙ the statutes, ḥōq וְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֔ים and the judgments, mišpāṭ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer צִוָּ֛ה commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֖ם your God ʾĕlōhîm לְלַמֵּ֣ד to teach lāmad אֶתְכֶ֑ם ʾēt לַֽעֲשׂ֣וֹת you, that ye might do ʿāśâ בָּאָ֔רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֥ר whither ʾăšer אַתֶּ֛ם ye ʾattâ עֹֽבְרִ֥ים go ʿābar שָׁ֖מָּה šām לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ to possess it: yāraš
  2. לְמַ֨עַן That maʿan תִּירָ֜א thou mightest fear yārēʾ אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm לִ֠שְׁמֹר to keep šāmar אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl חֻקֹּתָ֣יו his statutes ḥuqqâ וּמִצְוֹתָיו֮ and his commandments, miṣwâ אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִ֣י I ʾānōkî מְצַוֶּךָ֒ command ṣāwâ אַתָּה֙ thee, thou, ʾattâ וּבִנְךָ֣ and thy son, bēn וּבֶן and thy son's bēn בִּנְךָ֔ son, bēn כֹּ֖ל all kōl יְמֵ֣י the days yôm חַיֶּ֑יךָ of thy life; ḥay וּלְמַ֖עַן and that maʿan יַֽאֲרִכֻ֥ן may be prolonged. ʾārak יָמֶֽיךָ׃ thy days yôm
  3. וְשָֽׁמַעְתָּ֤ Hear šāmaʿ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ therefore, O Israel, yiśrāʾēl וְשָֽׁמַרְתָּ֣ and observe šāmar לַֽעֲשׂ֔וֹת to do ʿāśâ אֲשֶׁר֙ that ʾăšer יִיטַ֣ב it may be well yāṭab לְךָ֔ וַֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר with thee, and that ʾăšer תִּרְבּ֖וּן ye may increase rābâ מְאֹ֑ד mightily, mĕʾōd כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֩ as ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֨ר hath promised dābar יְהוָ֜ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֤י God ʾĕlōhîm אֲבֹתֶ֙יךָ֙ of thy fathers ʾāb לָ֔ךְ אֶ֛רֶץ thee, in the land ʾereṣ זָבַ֥ת that floweth zûb חָלָ֖ב with milk ḥālāb וּדְבָֽשׁ׃ and honey. dĕbaš
  4. שְׁמַ֖ע Hear, šāmaʿ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל O Israel: yiśrāʾēl יְהוָ֥ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ our God ʾĕlōhîm יְהוָ֥ה׀ Lord: yĕhōwâ אֶחָֽד׃ one ʾeḥād
  5. וְאָ֣הַבְתָּ֔ And thou shalt love ʾāhab אֵ֖ת ʾēt יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm בְּכָל with all kōl לְבָֽבְךָ֥ thine heart, lēbāb וּבְכָל and with all kōl נַפְשְׁךָ֖ thy soul, nepeš וּבְכָל and with all kōl מְאֹדֶֽךָ׃ thy might. mĕʾōd
  6. וְהָי֞וּ shall be hāyâ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים words, dābār הָאֵ֗לֶּה And these ʾēlle אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִ֧י I ʾānōkî מְצַוְּךָ֛ command ṣāwâ הַיּ֖וֹם thee this day, yôm עַל in ʿal לְבָבֶֽךָ׃ thine heart: lēbāb
  7. וְשִׁנַּנְתָּ֣ם And thou shalt teach them diligently šānan לְבָנֶ֔יךָ unto thy children, bēn וְדִבַּרְתָּ֖ and shalt talk dābar בָּ֑ם בְּשִׁבְתְּךָ֤ of them when thou sittest yāšab בְּבֵיתֶ֙ךָ֙ in thine house, bayit וּבְלֶכְתְּךָ֣ and when thou walkest hālak בַדֶּ֔רֶךְ by the way, derek וּֽבְשָׁכְבְּךָ֖ and when thou liest down, šākab וּבְקוּמֶֽךָ׃ and when thou risest up. qûm
  8. וּקְשַׁרְתָּ֥ם And thou shalt bind qāšar לְא֖וֹת them for a sign ʾôt עַל upon ʿal יָדֶ֑ךָ thine hand, yād וְהָי֥וּ and they shall be hāyâ לְטֹֽטָפֹ֖ת as frontlets ṭôpāpâ בֵּ֥ין between bên עֵינֶֽיךָ׃ thine eyes. ʿayin
  9. וּכְתַבְתָּ֛ם And thou shalt write kātab עַל them upon ʿal מְזֻז֥וֹת the posts mĕzûzâ בֵּיתֶ֖ךָ of thy house, bayit וּבִשְׁעָרֶֽיךָ׃ and on thy gates. šaʿar
  10. וְהָיָ֞ה And it shall be, hāyâ כִּ֥י when יְבִֽיאֲךָ֣׀ shall have brought bôʾ יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm אֶל thee into ʾēl הָאָ֜רֶץ the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer נִשְׁבַּ֧ע he sware šābaʿ לַֽאֲבֹתֶ֛יךָ unto thy fathers, ʾāb לְאַבְרָהָ֛ם to Abraham, ʾabrāhām לְיִצְחָ֥ק to Isaac, yiṣḥāq וּֽלְיַעֲקֹ֖ב and to Jacob, yaʿăqōb לָ֣תֶת to give nātan לָ֑ךְ עָרִ֛ים cities, ʿîr גְּדֹלֹ֥ת thee great gādôl וְטֹבֹ֖ת and goodly ṭôb אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא not, lōʾ בָנִֽיתָ׃ thou buildedst bānâ
  11. וּבָ֨תִּ֜ים And houses bayit מְלֵאִ֣ים full mālēʾ כָּל of all kōl טוּב֮ good ṭûb אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא not, lōʾ מִלֵּאתָ֒ thou filledst mālēʾ וּבֹרֹ֤ת and wells bôr חֲצוּבִים֙ digged, ḥāṣab אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא not, lōʾ חָצַ֔בְתָּ thou diggedst ḥāṣab כְּרָמִ֥ים vineyards kerem וְזֵיתִ֖ים and olive trees, zayit אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא not; lōʾ נָטָ֑עְתָּ thou plantedst nāṭaʿ וְאָֽכַלְתָּ֖ when thou shalt have eaten ʾākal וְשָׂבָֽעְתָּ׃ and be full; śābaʿ
  12. הִשָּׁ֣מֶר beware šāmar לְךָ֔ פֶּן lest pēn תִּשְׁכַּ֖ח thou forget šākaḥ אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֑ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֧ר which ʾăšer הוֹצִֽיאֲךָ֛ brought thee forth yāṣāʾ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ out of the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַ֖יִם of Egypt, miṣrayim מִבֵּ֥ית from the house bayit עֲבָדִֽים׃ of bondage. ʿebed
  13. אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֧ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm תִּירָ֖א Thou shalt fear yārēʾ וְאֹת֣וֹ ʾēt תַֽעֲבֹ֑ד and serve ʿābad וּבִשְׁמ֖וֹ by his name. šēm תִּשָּׁבֵֽעַ׃ him, and shalt swear šābaʿ
  14. לֹ֣א Ye shall not lōʾ תֵֽלְכ֔וּן go hālak אַֽחֲרֵ֖י after ʾaḥar אֱלֹהִ֣ים gods, ʾĕlōhîm אֲחֵרִ֑ים other ʾaḥēr מֵֽאֱלֹהֵי֙ of the gods ʾĕlōhîm הָֽעַמִּ֔ים of the people ʿam אֲשֶׁ֖ר which ʾăšer סְבִיבֽוֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ round about you; sābîb
  15. כִּ֣י (For אֵ֥ל God ʾēl קַנָּ֛א a jealous qannāʾ יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm בְּקִרְבֶּ֑ךָ among qereb פֶּן you) lest pēn יֶֽ֠חֱרֶה be kindled ḥārâ אַף the anger ʾap יְהוָ֤ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ thy God ʾĕlōhîm בָּ֔ךְ וְהִשְׁמִ֣ידְךָ֔ against thee, and destroy šāmad מֵעַ֖ל thee from off ʿal פְּנֵ֥י the face pānîm הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃ of the earth. ʾădāmâ
  16. לֹ֣א Ye shall not lōʾ תְנַסּ֔וּ tempt nāsâ אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֑ם your God, ʾĕlōhîm כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer נִסִּיתֶ֖ם ye tempted nāsâ בַּמַּסָּֽה׃ in Massah. massâ
  17. שָׁמ֣וֹר Ye shall diligently šāmar תִּשְׁמְר֔וּן keep šāmar אֶת ʾēt מִצְוֹ֖ת the commandments miṣwâ יְהוָ֣ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֑ם your God, ʾĕlōhîm וְעֵֽדֹתָ֥יו and his testimonies, ʿēdâ וְחֻקָּ֖יו and his statutes, ḥōq אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer צִוָּֽךְ׃ he hath commanded thee. ṣāwâ
  18. וְעָשִׂ֛יתָ And thou shalt do ʿāśâ הַיָּשָׁ֥ר right yāšār וְהַטּ֖וֹב and good ṭôb בְּעֵינֵ֣י in the sight ʿayin יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord: yĕhōwâ לְמַ֙עַן֙ that maʿan יִ֣יטַב it may be well yāṭab לָ֔ךְ וּבָ֗אתָ with thee, and that thou mayest go in bôʾ וְיָֽרַשְׁתָּ֙ and possess yāraš אֶת ʾēt הָאָ֣רֶץ land ʾereṣ הַטֹּבָ֔ה the good ṭôb אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer נִשְׁבַּ֥ע sware šābaʿ יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ לַֽאֲבֹתֶֽיךָ׃ unto thy fathers, ʾāb
  19. לַֽהֲדֹ֥ף To cast out hādap אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl אֹֽיְבֶ֖יךָ thine enemies ʾōyēb מִפָּנֶ֑יךָ from before pānîm כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר thee, as ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֥ר hath spoken. dābar יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord yĕhōwâ
  20. כִּֽי when יִשְׁאָלְךָ֥ asketh šāʾal בִנְךָ֛ thy son bēn מָחָ֖ר thee in time to come, māḥār לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar מָ֣ה What הָֽעֵדֹ֗ת the testimonies, ʿēdâ וְהַֽחֻקִּים֙ and the statutes, ḥōq וְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֔ים and the judgments, mišpāṭ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer צִוָּ֛ה hath commanded you? ṣāwâ יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ our God ʾĕlōhîm אֶתְכֶֽם׃ ʾēt
  21. וְאָֽמַרְתָּ֣ Then thou shalt say ʾāmar לְבִנְךָ֔ unto thy son, bēn עֲבָדִ֛ים bondmen ʿebed הָיִ֥ינוּ We were hāyâ לְפַרְעֹ֖ה Pharaoh's parʿō בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם in Egypt; miṣrayim וַיֹּֽצִיאֵ֧נוּ brought us out yāṣāʾ יְהוָ֛ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ מִמִּצְרַ֖יִם of Egypt miṣrayim בְּיָ֥ד hand: yād חֲזָקָֽה׃ with a mighty ḥāzāq
  22. וַיִּתֵּ֣ן shewed nātan יְהוָ֡ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אוֹתֹ֣ת signs ʾôt וּ֠מֹֽפְתִים and wonders, môpēt גְּדֹלִ֨ים great gādôl וְרָעִ֧ים׀ and sore, raʿ בְּמִצְרַ֛יִם upon Egypt, miṣrayim בְּפַרְעֹ֥ה upon Pharaoh, parʿō וּבְכָל and upon all kōl בֵּית֖וֹ his household, bayit לְעֵינֵֽינוּ׃ before our eyes: ʿayin
  23. וְאוֹתָ֖נוּ ʾēt הוֹצִ֣יא And he brought us out yāṣāʾ מִשָּׁ֑ם from thence, šām לְמַ֙עַן֙ that maʿan הָבִ֣יא he might bring us in, bôʾ אֹתָ֔נוּ ʾēt לָ֤תֶת to give nātan לָ֙נוּ֙ אֶת us ʾēt הָאָ֔רֶץ the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer נִשְׁבַּ֖ע he sware šābaʿ לַֽאֲבֹתֵֽינוּ׃ unto our fathers. ʾāb
  24. וַיְצַוֵּ֣נוּ commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֗ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ לַֽעֲשׂוֹת֙ us to do ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַֽחֻקִּ֣ים statutes, ḥōq הָאֵ֔לֶּה these ʾēlle לְיִרְאָ֖ה to fear yārēʾ אֶת the ʾēt יְהוָ֣ה Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ our God, ʾĕlōhîm לְט֥וֹב for our good ṭôb לָ֙נוּ֙ כָּל kōl הַיָּמִ֔ים always, yôm לְחַיֹּתֵ֖נוּ that he might preserve us alive, ḥāyâ כְּהַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ as at this ze
  25. וּצְדָקָ֖ה our righteousness, ṣĕdāqâ תִּֽהְיֶה And it shall be hāyâ לָּ֑נוּ כִּֽי if נִשְׁמֹ֨ר we observe šāmar לַֽעֲשׂ֜וֹת to do ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַמִּצְוָ֣ה commandments miṣwâ הַזֹּ֗את these zōt לִפְנֵ֛י before pānîm יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ our God, ʾĕlōhîm כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer צִוָּֽנוּ׃ he hath commanded us. ṣāwâ
