1 சவுல் பெலிஸ்தரைப் பின் தொடர்ந்து திரும்பிவந்தபோது, இதோ, தாவீது என்கேதியின் வனாந்தரத்தில் இருக்கிறான் என்று அவனுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது. And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi.

2 அப்பொழுது சவுல்: இஸ்ரவேல் அனைத்திலும் தெரிந்துகொள்ளப்பட்ட மூவாயிரம்பேரைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, தாவீதையும் அவன் மனுஷரையும் வரையாடுகளுள்ள கன்மலைகளின் மேல் தேடப்போனான். Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.

3 வழியோரத்திலிருக்கிற ஆட்டுத்தொழுவங்களிடத்தில் அவன் வந்தபோது, அங்கே ஒரு கெபி இருந்தது; அதிலே சவுல் மலஜலாதிக்குப் போனான்; தாவீதும் அவன் மனுஷரும் அந்தக் கெபியின் பக்கங்களில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார்கள். And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave.

4 அப்பொழுது தாவீதின் மனுஷர் அவனை நோக்கி: இதோ, நான் உன் சத்துருவை உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன்; உன் பார்வைக்கு நலமானபடி அவனுக்குச் செய்வாயாக என்று கர்த்தர் உன்னோடே சொன்ன நாள் இதுதானே என்றார்கள்; தாவீது எழுந்திருந்துபோய், சவுலுடைய சால்வையின் தொங்கலை மெள்ள அறுத்துக்கொண்டான். And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.

5 தாவீது சவுலின் சால்வைத் தொங்கலை அறுத்துக்கொண்டதினிமித்தம் அவன் மனது அடித்துக்கொண்டிருந்து. And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.

6 அவன் தன் மனுஷரைப் பார்த்து: கர்த்தர் அபிஷேகம்பண்ணின என் ஆண்டவன்மேல் என் கையைப் போடும்படியான இப்படிப்பட்ட காரியத்தை நான் செய்யாதபடிக்கு, கர்த்தர் என்னைக் காப்பாராக; அவர் கர்த்தரால் அபிஷேகம் பண்ணப்பட்டவர் என்று சொல்லி, And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD's anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.

7 தன் மனுஷரைச் சவுலின் மேல் எழும்ப ஒட்டாமல், இவ்வார்த்தைகளினால் அவர்களைத் தடைபண்ணினான்; சவுல் எழுந்திருந்து, கெபியைவிட்டு, வழியே நடந்துபோனான். So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

8 அப்பொழுது தாவீதும் எழுந்து, கெபியிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு, சவுலுக்குப் பின்னாகப் போய்; ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனே என்று கூப்பிட்டான்; சவுல் திரும்பிப் பார்த்தபோது, தாவீது தரைமட்டும் முகங்குனிந்து வணங்கி, David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.

9 சவுலை நோக்கி: தாவீது உமக்குப் பொல்லாப்புச் செய்யப்பார்க்கிறான் என்று சொல்லுகிற மனுஷருடைய வார்த்தைகளை ஏன் கேட்கிறீர்? And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?

10 இதோ, கர்த்தர் இன்று கெபியில் உம்மை என் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார் என்பதை இன்றையதினம் உம்முடைய கண்கள் கண்டதே, உம்மைக் கொன்றுபோடவேண்டும் என்று சிலர் சொன்னார்கள்; ஆனாலும் என் கை உம்மைத் தப்பவிட்டது; என் ஆண்டவன் மேல் என் கையைப் போடேன்; அவர் கர்த்தரால் அபிஷேகம்பண்ணப்பட்டவராமே என்றேன். Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD's anointed.

11 என் தகப்பனே பாரும்; என் கையிலிருக்கிற உம்முடைய சால்வையின் தொங்கலைப் பாரும்; உம்மைக் கொன்று போடாமல், உம்முடைய சால்வையின் தொங்கலை அறுத்துக்கொண்டேன்; என் கையிலே பொல்லாப்பும் துரோகமும் இல்லை என்றும், உமக்கு நான் குற்றம் செய்யவில்லை என்றும் அறிந்துகொள்ளும்; நீரோ என் பிராணனை வாங்க, அதை வேட்டையாடுகிறீர். Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.

12 கர்த்தர் எனக்கும் உமக்கும் நடு நின்று நியாயம் விசாரித்து, கர்த்தர் தாமே என் காரியத்தில் உமக்கு நீதியைச் சரிக்கட்டுவாராக; உம்முடைய பேரில் நான் கைபோடுவதில்லை. The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

13 முதியோர் மொழிப்படியே, ஆகாதவர்களிடத்திலே ஆகாமியம் பிறக்கும்; ஆகையால் உம்முடையபேரில் நான் கை போடுவதில்லை. As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

14 இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா யாரைத் தேடப் புறப்பட்டார்? ஒரு செத்த நாயையா, ஒரு தெள்ளுப்பூச்சியையா, நீர் யாரைப் பின் தொடருகிறீர்? After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.

15 கர்த்தர் நியாயாதிபதியாயிருந்து, எனக்கும் உமக்கும் நியாயந்தீர்த்து, எனக்காக வழக்காடி, நான் உம்முடைய கைக்குத் தப்ப என்னை விடுவிப்பாராக என்றான். The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.

16 தாவீது இந்த வார்த்தைகளைச் சவுலோடே சொல்லி முடிந்தபின்பு, சவுல்: என் குமாரனாகிய தாவீதே, இது உன்னுடைய சத்தமல்லவா என்று சொல்லி, சத்தமிட்டு அழுது, And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

17 தாவீதைப் பார்த்து: நீ என்னைப் பார்க்கிலும் நீதிமான்; நீ எனக்கு நன்மை செய்தாய்; நானோ உனக்கு தீமைசெய்தேன். And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.

18 நீ எனக்கு நன்மைசெய்ததை இன்று விளங்கப்பண்ணினாய்; கர்த்தர் என்னை உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்திருந்தும், நீ என்னைக் கொன்றுபோடவில்லை. And thou hast showed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not.

19 ஒருவன் தன் மாற்றானைக் கண்டு பிடித்தால், அவனைச் சுகமே போகவிடுவானோ? இன்று நீ எனக்குச் செய்த நன்மைக்காகக் கர்த்தர் உனக்கு நன்மை செய்வாராக. For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.

20 நீ நிச்சயமாக ராஜாவாய் இருப்பாய் என்றும், இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜ்யபாரம் உன் கையில் நிலைவரப்படும் என்றும் அறிவேன். And now, behold, I know well that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand.

21 இப்போதும் நீ எனக்குப் பின்னிருக்கும் என் சந்ததியை வேரறுப்பதில்லை என்றும், என் தகப்பன் வீட்டாரில் என் பெயரை அழித்துப்போடுவதில்லை என்றும் கர்த்தர்மேல் எனக்கு ஆணையிட்டுக் கொடு என்றான். Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.

22 அப்பொழுது தாவீது சவுலுக்கு ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடுத்தான்; பின்பு, சவுல் தன் வீட்டுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்; தாவீதும் அவன் மனுஷரும் அரணிப்பான இடத்திற்கு ஏறிப்போனார்கள். And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.

Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.

3 Valiyoraththilirukkira aattuththoluvangalidaththil avan vanthapothu, angae oru kepi irunthathu; athilae savul malajalaathikkup ponaan; Davidm avan manusharum anthak kepiyin pakkangalil utkaarnthirunthaarkal. And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave.

4 Appoluthu thaaveethin manushar avanai Nnokki: itho, naan un saththuruvai un kaiyil oppukkoduppaen; un paarvaikku nalamaanapati avanukkuch seyvaayaaka entu Karththar unnotae sonna naal ithuthaanae entarkal; David elunthirunthupoy, savulutaiya saalvaiyin thongalai mella araுththukkonndaan. And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.

5 David savulin saalvaith thongalai araுththukkonndathinimiththam avan manathu atiththukkonntirunthu. And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.

6 Avan than manusharaip paarththu: Karththar apishaekampannnnina en aanndavanmael en kaiyaip podumpatiyaana ippatippatta kaariyaththai naan seyyaathapatikku, Karththar ennaik kaappaaraaka; avar karththaraal apishaekam pannnappattavar entu solli, And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD's anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.

7 Than manusharaich savulin mael elumpa ottamal, ivvaarththaikalinaal avarkalaith thataipannnninaan; savul elunthirunthu, kepiyaivittu, valiyae nadanthuponaan. So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

8 Appoluthu Davidm elunthu, kepiyilirunthu purappattu, savulukkup pinnaakap poy; raajaavaakiya en aanndavanae entu kooppittan; savul thirumpip paarththapothu, David tharaimattum mukanguninthu vanangi, David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.

9 Savulai Nnokki: David umakkup pollaappuch seyyappaarkkiraan entu sollukira manusharutaiya vaarththaikalai aen kaetkireer? And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?

10 Itho, Karththar intu kepiyil ummai en kaiyil oppukkoduththaar enpathai intaiyathinam ummutaiya kannkal kanndathae, ummaik kontupodavaenndum entu silar sonnaarkal; aanaalum en kai ummaith thappavittathu; en aanndavan mael en kaiyaip potaen; avar karththaraal apishaekampannnappattavaraamae enten. Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD's anointed.

11 En thakappanae paarum; en kaiyilirukkira ummutaiya saalvaiyin thongalaip paarum; ummaik kontu podaamal, ummutaiya saalvaiyin thongalai araுththukkonntaen; en kaiyilae pollaappum thurokamum illai entum, umakku naan kuttam seyyavillai entum arinthukollum; neero en piraananai vaanga, athai vaettaைyaadukireer. Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.

12 Karththar enakkum umakkum nadu nintu niyaayam visaariththu, Karththar thaamae en kaariyaththil umakku neethiyaich sarikkattuvaaraaka; ummutaiya paeril naan kaipoduvathillai. The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

13 Muthiyor molippatiyae, aakaathavarkalidaththilae aakaamiyam pirakkum; aakaiyaal ummutaiyapaeril naan kai poduvathillai. As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

14 Isravaelin raajaa yaaraith thaedap purappattar? Oru seththa naayaiyaa, oru thelluppoochchiyaiyaa, neer yaaraip pin thodarukireer? After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.

15 Karththar niyaayaathipathiyaayirunthu, enakkum umakkum niyaayantheerththu, enakkaaka valakkaati, naan ummutaiya kaikkuth thappa ennai viduvippaaraaka entan. The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.

16 David intha vaarththaikalaich savulotae solli mutinthapinpu, savul: en kumaaranaakiya thaaveethae, ithu unnutaiya saththamallavaa entu solli, saththamittu aluthu, And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

17 Thaaveethaip paarththu: nee ennaip paarkkilum neethimaan; nee enakku nanmai seythaay; naano unakku theemaiseythaen. And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.

18 Nee enakku nanmaiseythathai intu vilangappannnninaay; Karththar ennai un kaiyil oppukkoduththirunthum, nee ennaik kontupodavillai. And thou hast showed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not.

19 Oruvan than maattaாnaik kanndu pitiththaal, avanaich sukamae pokaviduvaano? Intu nee enakkuch seytha nanmaikkaakak Karththar unakku nanmai seyvaaraaka. For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.

20 Nee nichchayamaaka raajaavaay iruppaay entum, isravaelin raajyapaaram un kaiyil nilaivarappadum entum arivaen. And now, behold, I know well that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand.

21 Ippothum nee enakkup pinnirukkum en santhathiyai vaeraraுppathillai entum, en thakappan veettaril en peyarai aliththuppoduvathillai entum Karththarmael enakku aannaiyittuk kodu entan. Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.

22 Appoluthu David savulukku aannaiyittukkoduththaan; pinpu, savul than veettukkup purappattupponaan; Davidm avan manusharum arannippaana idaththirku aeripponaarkal. And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.
