  2. וַתְּהִ֨י that hāyâ הַתְּשֻׁעָ֜ה And the victory tĕšûʿâ בַּיּ֥וֹם day yôm הַה֛וּא that hûʾ לְאֵ֖בֶל was into mourning ʾēbel לְכָל unto all kōl הָעָ֑ם the people: ʿam כִּֽי for שָׁמַ֣ע heard šāmaʿ הָעָ֗ם the people ʿam בַּיּ֤וֹם day yôm הַהוּא֙ hûʾ לֵאמֹ֔ר say ʾāmar נֶֽעֱצַ֥ב was grieved ʿāṣab הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ how the king melek עַל for ʿal בְּנֽוֹ׃ his son. bēn
  3. וַיִּתְגַּנֵּ֥ב them by stealth gānab הָעָ֛ם And the people ʿam בַּיּ֥וֹם day yôm הַה֖וּא that hûʾ לָב֣וֹא gat bôʾ הָעִ֑יר into the city, ʿîr כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר as ʾăšer יִתְגַּנֵּ֗ב steal away gānab הָעָם֙ people ʿam הַנִּכְלָמִ֔ים being ashamed kālam בְּנוּסָ֖ם when they flee nûs בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ in battle. milḥāmâ
  4. וְהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ But the king melek לָאַ֣ט covered lāʾaṭ אֶת ʾēt פָּנָ֔יו his face, pānîm וַיִּזְעַ֥ק cried zāʿaq הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ and the king melek ק֣וֹל voice, qôl גָּד֑וֹל with a loud gādôl בְּנִי֙ O my son bēn אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם Absalom, ʾăbîšālôm אַבְשָׁל֖וֹם O Absalom, ʾăbîšālôm בְּנִ֥י my son, bēn בְנִֽי׃ my son! bēn
  5. וַיָּבֹ֥א came bôʾ יוֹאָ֛ב And Joab yôʾāb אֶל to ʾēl הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king, melek הַבָּ֑יִת into the house bayit וַיֹּאמֶר֩ and said, ʾāmar הֹבַ֨שְׁתָּ Thou hast shamed yābēš הַיּ֜וֹם this day yôm אֶת ʾēt פְּנֵ֣י the faces pānîm כָל of all kōl עֲבָדֶ֗יךָ thy servants, ʿebed הַֽמְמַלְּטִ֤ים have saved mālaṭ אֶֽת ʾēt נַפְשְׁךָ֙ thy life, nepeš הַיּ֔וֹם which this day yôm וְאֵ֨ת ʾēt נֶ֤פֶשׁ and the lives nepeš בָּנֶ֙יךָ֙ of thy sons bēn וּבְנֹתֶ֔יךָ and of thy daughters, bat וְנֶ֣פֶשׁ and the lives nepeš נָשֶׁ֔יךָ of thy wives, ʾiššâ וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ and the lives nepeš פִּֽלַגְשֶֽׁיךָ׃ of thy concubines; pîlegeš
  6. לְאַֽהֲבָה֙ In that thou lovest ʾāhab אֶת ʾēt שֹׂ֣נְאֶ֔יךָ thine enemies, śānēʾ וְלִשְׂנֹ֖א and hatest śānēʾ אֶת ʾēt אֹֽהֲבֶ֑יךָ thy friends. ʾāhab כִּ֣י׀ For הִגַּ֣דְתָּ thou hast declared nāgad הַיּ֗וֹם this day, yôm כִּ֣י that אֵ֤ין thou regardest neither ʾayin לְךָ֙ שָׂרִ֣ים princes śar וַֽעֲבָדִ֔ים nor servants: ʿebed כִּ֣י׀ for יָדַ֣עְתִּי I perceive, yādaʿ הַיּ֗וֹם this day yôm כִּ֠י that ל֣א if lûʾ אַבְשָׁל֥וֹם Absalom ʾăbîšālôm חַי֙ had lived, ḥay וְכֻלָּ֤נוּ and all kōl הַיּוֹם֙ this day, yôm מֵתִ֔ים we had died mût כִּי אָ֖ז then ʾāz יָשָׁ֥ר it had pleased thee well. yāšār בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃ ʿayin
  7. וְעַתָּה֙ Now ʿattâ ק֣וּם therefore arise, qûm צֵ֔א go forth, yāṣāʾ וְדַבֵּ֖ר and speak dābar עַל ʿal לֵ֣ב comfortably lēb עֲבָדֶ֑יךָ unto thy servants: ʿebed כִּי֩ for בַֽיהוָ֨ה by the Lord, yĕhōwâ נִשְׁבַּ֜עְתִּי I swear šābaʿ כִּֽי if אֵינְךָ֣ ʾayin יוֹצֵ֗א thou go not forth, yāṣāʾ אִם there will not ʾim יָלִ֨ין tarry lûn אִ֤ישׁ one ʾîš אִתְּךָ֙ with ʾēt הַלַּ֔יְלָה thee this night: layil וְרָעָ֧ה will be worse rāʿaʿ לְךָ֣ זֹ֗את and that zōt מִכָּל unto thee than all kōl הָֽרָעָה֙ the evil raʿ אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer בָּ֣אָה befell bôʾ עָלֶ֔יךָ ʿal מִנְּעֻרֶ֖יךָ thee from thy youth nāʿûr עַד until ʿad עָֽתָּה׃ now. ʿattâ
  8. וַיָּ֥קָם arose, qûm הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ Then the king melek וַיֵּ֣שֶׁב and sat yāšab בַּשָּׁ֑עַר in the gate. šaʿar וּֽלְכָל unto all kōl הָעָ֞ם the people, ʿam הִגִּ֣ידוּ And they told nāgad לֵאמֹ֗ר saying, ʾāmar הִנֵּ֤ה Behold, hinnē הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ the king melek יוֹשֵׁ֣ב doth sit yāšab בַּשַּׁ֔עַר in the gate. šaʿar וַיָּבֹ֤א came bôʾ כָל And all kōl הָעָם֙ the people ʿam לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king: melek וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל for Israel yiśrāʾēl נָ֖ס had fled nûs אִ֥ישׁ every man ʾîš לְאֹֽהָלָֽיו׃ to his tent. ʾōhel
  9. וַיְהִ֤י were hāyâ כָל And all kōl הָעָם֙ the people ʿam נָד֔וֹן at strife dîn בְּכָל throughout all kōl שִׁבְטֵ֥י the tribes šēbeṭ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ The king melek הִצִּילָ֣נוּ׀ saved nāṣal מִכַּ֣ף us out of the hand kap אֹֽיְבֵ֗ינוּ of our enemies, ʾōyēb וְה֤וּא and he hûʾ מִלְּטָ֙נוּ֙ delivered mālaṭ מִכַּ֣ף us out of the hand kap פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים of the Philistines; pĕlištî וְעַתָּ֛ה and now ʿattâ בָּרַ֥ח he is fled bāraḥ מִן out of min הָאָ֖רֶץ the land ʾereṣ מֵעַ֥ל ʿal אַבְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ for Absalom. ʾăbîšālôm
  10. וְאַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ And Absalom, ʾăbîšālôm אֲשֶׁ֣ר whom ʾăšer מָשַׁ֣חְנוּ we anointed māšaḥ עָלֵ֔ינוּ over ʿal מֵ֖ת us, is dead mût בַּמִּלְחָמָ֑ה in battle. milḥāmâ וְעַתָּ֗ה Now ʿattâ לָמָ֥ה therefore why אַתֶּ֛ם ye ʾattâ מַֽחֲרִשִׁ֖ים speak ḥāraš לְהָשִׁ֥יב not a word of bringing šûb אֶת ʾēt הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king back? melek
  11. וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ And king melek דָּוִ֗ד David dāwid שָׁ֠לַח sent šālaḥ אֶל to ʾēl צָד֨וֹק Zadok ṣādôq וְאֶל and to ʾēl אֶבְיָתָ֥ר Abiathar ʾebyātār הַכֹּֽהֲנִים֮ the priests, kōhēn לֵאמֹר֒ saying, ʾāmar דַּבְּר֞וּ Speak dābar אֶל unto ʾēl זִקְנֵ֤י the elders zāqēn יְהוּדָה֙ of Judah, yĕhûdâ לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar לָ֤מָּה Why תִֽהְיוּ֙ are hāyâ אַֽחֲרֹנִ֔ים ye the last ʾaḥărôn לְהָשִׁ֥יב to bring šûb אֶת ʾēt הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek אֶל back to ʾēl בֵּית֑וֹ his house? bayit וּדְבַר֙ seeing the speech dābār כָּל of all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel yiśrāʾēl בָּ֥א is come bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king, melek אֶל to ʾēl בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ his house. bayit
  12. אַחַ֣י my brethren, ʾāḥ אַתֶּ֔ם Ye ʾattâ עַצְמִ֥י my bones ʿeṣem וּבְשָׂרִ֖י and my flesh: bāśār אַתֶּ֑ם ye ʾattâ וְלָ֧מָּה wherefore תִֽהְי֛וּ then are hāyâ אַֽחֲרֹנִ֖ים ye the last ʾaḥărôn לְהָשִׁ֥יב to bring back šûb אֶת ʾēt הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king? melek
  13. וְלַֽעֲמָשָׂא֙ ye to Amasa, ʿămāśāʾ תֹּֽמְר֔וּ And say ʾāmar הֲל֛וֹא not lōʾ עַצְמִ֥י of my bone, ʿeṣem וּבְשָׂרִ֖י and of my flesh? bāśār אָ֑תָּה thou ʾattâ כֹּ֣ה so יַֽעֲשֶׂה do ʿāśâ לִּ֤י אֱלֹהִים֙ God ʾĕlōhîm וְכֹ֣ה also, יוֹסִ֔יף to me, and more yāsap אִם if ʾim לֹ֠א not lōʾ שַׂר captain śar צָבָ֞א of the host ṣābāʾ תִּֽהְיֶ֧ה thou be hāyâ לְפָנַ֛י before pānîm כָּל kōl הַיָּמִ֖ים me continually yôm תַּ֥חַת in the room taḥat יוֹאָֽב׃ of Joab. yôʾāb
  14. וַיַּ֛ט And he bowed nāṭâ אֶת ʾēt לְבַ֥ב the heart lēbāb כָּל of all kōl אִישׁ the men ʾîš יְהוּדָ֖ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ כְּאִ֣ישׁ man; ʾîš אֶחָ֑ד even as one ʾeḥād וַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙ so that they sent šālaḥ אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek שׁ֥וּב Return šûb אַתָּ֖ה thou, ʾattâ וְכָל and all kōl עֲבָדֶֽיךָ׃ thy servants. ʿebed
  15. וַיָּ֣שָׁב returned, šûb הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ So the king melek וַיָּבֹ֖א and came bôʾ עַד to ʿad הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן Jordan. yardēn וִֽיהוּדָ֞ה And Judah yĕhûdâ בָּ֣א came bôʾ הַגִּלְגָּ֗לָה to Gilgal, gilgāl לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ to go hālak לִקְרַ֣את to meet qirʾâ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek לְהַֽעֲבִ֥יר to conduct ʿābar אֶת over ʾēt הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek אֶת ʾēt הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ Jordan. yardēn
  16. וַיְמַהֵ֗ר hasted māhar שִׁמְעִ֤י And Shimei šimʿî בֶן the son bēn גֵּרָא֙ of Gera, gērāʾ בֶּן הַיְמִינִ֔י a Benjamite, ben yĕmînî אֲשֶׁ֖ר which ʾăšer מִבַּֽחוּרִ֑ים of Bahurim, baḥurîm וַיֵּ֙רֶד֙ and came down yārad עִם with ʿim אִ֣ישׁ the men ʾîš יְהוּדָ֔ה of Judah yĕhûdâ לִקְרַ֖את to meet qirʾâ הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ king melek דָּוִֽד׃ David. dāwid
  17. וְאֶ֨לֶף And a thousand ʾelep אִ֣ישׁ men ʾîš עִמּוֹ֮ with ʿim מִבִּנְיָמִן֒ of Benjamin binyāmîn וְצִיבָ֗א him, and Ziba ṣîbāʾ נַ֚עַר the servant naʿar בֵּ֣ית of the house bayit שָׁא֔וּל of Saul, šāʾûl וַֽחֲמֵ֨שֶׁת and his fifteen ḥāmēš עָשָׂ֥ר ʿāśār בָּנָ֛יו sons bēn וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים and his twenty ʿeśrîm עֲבָדָ֖יו servants ʿebed אִתּ֑וֹ with ʾēt וְצָֽלְח֥וּ him; and they went over ṣālaḥ הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן Jordan yardēn לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king. melek
  18. וְעָֽבְרָ֣ה And there went over ʿābar הָֽעֲבָרָ֗ה a ferry boat ʿăbārâ לַֽעֲבִיר֙ to carry over ʿābar אֶת ʾēt בֵּ֣ית household, bayit הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king's melek וְלַֽעֲשׂ֥וֹת and to do ʿāśâ הַטּ֖וֹב good. ṭôb בְּעֵינָ֑ו what he thought ʿayin וְשִׁמְעִ֣י And Shimei šimʿî בֶן the son bēn גֵּרָ֗א of Gera gērāʾ נָפַל֙ fell down nāpal לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek בְּעָבְר֖וֹ as he was come over ʿābar בַּיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ Jordan; yardēn
  19. וַיֹּ֣אמֶר And said ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ the king, melek אַל Let not ʾal יַֽחֲשָׁב impute ḥāšab לִ֣י אֲדֹנִי֮ my lord ʾādôn עָוֹן֒ iniquity ʿāwōn וְאַל unto me, neither ʾal תִּזְכֹּ֗ר do thou remember zākar אֵ֚ת ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֣ר that which ʾăšer הֶֽעֱוָ֣ה did perversely ʿāwâ עַבְדְּךָ֔ thy servant ʿebed בַּיּ֕וֹם the day yôm אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer יָׄצָ֥ׄאׄ went out yāṣāʾ אֲדֹנִֽי my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek מִירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם of Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim לָשׂ֥וּם should take śûm הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ that the king melek אֶל it to ʾēl לִבּֽוֹ׃ his heart. lēb
  20. כִּ֚י For יָדַ֣ע doth know yādaʿ עַבְדְּךָ֔ thy servant ʿebed כִּ֖י that אֲנִ֣י I ʾănî חָטָ֑אתִי have sinned: ḥāṭāʾ וְהִנֵּה therefore, behold, hinnē בָ֣אתִי I am come bôʾ הַיּ֗וֹם this day yôm רִאשׁוֹן֙ the first riʾšôn לְכָל of all kōl בֵּ֣ית the house bayit יוֹסֵ֔ף of Joseph yôsēp לָרֶ֕דֶת to go down yārad לִקְרַ֖את to meet qirʾâ אֲדֹנִ֥י my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king. melek
  21. וַיַּ֨עַן answered ʿānâ אֲבִישַׁ֤י But Abishai ʾăbîšay בֶּן the son bēn צְרוּיָה֙ of Zeruiah ṣĕrûyâ וַיֹּ֔אמֶר and said, ʾāmar הֲתַ֣חַת for taḥat זֹ֔את this, zōt לֹ֥א Shall not lōʾ יוּמַ֖ת be put to death mût שִׁמְעִ֑י Shimei šimʿî כִּ֥י because קִלֵּ֖ל he cursed qālal אֶת ʾēt מְשִׁ֥יחַ anointed? māšîaḥ יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord's yĕhōwâ
  22. וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar דָּוִ֗ד And David dāwid מַה What לִּ֤י וְלָכֶם֙ בְּנֵ֣י have I to do with you, ye sons bēn צְרוּיָ֔ה of Zeruiah, ṣĕrûyâ כִּֽי that תִֽהְיוּ be hāyâ לִ֥י הַיּ֖וֹם ye should this day yôm לְשָׂטָ֑ן adversaries śāṭān הַיּ֗וֹם this day yôm י֤וּמַת be put to death mût אִישׁ֙ unto me? shall there any man ʾîš בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל in Israel? yiśrāʾēl כִּ֚י for הֲל֣וֹא do not lōʾ יָדַ֔עְתִּי I know yādaʿ כִּ֥י that הַיּ֖וֹם this day yôm אֲנִי I ʾănî מֶ֥לֶךְ king melek עַל over ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel? yiśrāʾēl
  23. וַיֹּ֧אמֶר said ʾāmar הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ Therefore the king melek אֶל unto ʾēl שִׁמְעִ֖י Shimei, šimʿî לֹ֣א Thou shalt not lōʾ תָמ֑וּת die. mût וַיִּשָּׁ֥בַֽע sware unto him. šābaʿ ל֖וֹ הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ And the king melek
  24. וּמְפִבֹ֙שֶׁת֙ And Mephibosheth mĕpîbōšet בֶּן the son bēn שָׁא֔וּל of Saul šāʾûl יָרַ֖ד came down yārad לִקְרַ֣את to meet qirʾâ הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ the king, melek וְלֹֽא and had neither lōʾ עָשָׂ֨ה dressed ʿāśâ רַגְלָ֜יו his feet, regel וְלֹֽא nor lōʾ עָשָׂ֣ה trimmed ʿāśâ שְׂפָמ֗וֹ his beard, śāpām וְאֶת ʾēt בְּגָדָיו֙ his clothes, beged לֹ֣א nor lōʾ כִבֵּ֔ס washed kābas לְמִן from min הַיּוֹם֙ the day yôm לֶ֣כֶת departed hālak הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king melek עַד until ʿad הַיּ֖וֹם the day yôm אֲשֶׁר ʾăšer בָּ֥א he came bôʾ בְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ in peace. šālôm
  25. וַיְהִ֛י And it came to pass, hāyâ כִּי when בָ֥א he was come bôʾ יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֖ם to Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim לִקְרַ֣את to meet qirʾâ הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ the king, melek וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar לוֹ֙ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ that the king melek לָ֛מָּה unto him, Wherefore לֹֽא not lōʾ הָלַ֥כְתָּ wentest hālak עִמִּ֖י thou with ʿim מְפִיבֹֽשֶׁת׃ me, Mephibosheth? mĕpîbōšet
  26. וַיֹּאמַ֕ר And he answered, ʾāmar אֲדֹנִ֥י My lord, ʾādôn הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ O king, melek עַבְדִּ֣י my servant ʿebed רִמָּ֑נִי deceived rāmâ כִּֽי me: for אָמַ֨ר said, ʾāmar עַבְדְּךָ֜ thy servant ʿebed אֶחְבְּשָׁה I will saddle ḥābaš לִּי֩ הַֽחֲמ֨וֹר me an ass, ḥămôr וְאֶרְכַּ֤ב that I may ride rākab עָלֶ֙יהָ֙ thereon, ʿal וְאֵלֵ֣ךְ and go hālak אֶת to ʾēt הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king; melek כִּ֥י because פִסֵּ֖חַ lame. pissēaḥ עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ thy servant ʿebed
  27. וַיְרַגֵּ֣ל And he hath slandered rāgal בְּעַבְדְּךָ֔ thy servant ʿebed אֶל unto ʾēl אֲדֹנִ֖י my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ the king; melek וַֽאדֹנִ֤י but my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ the king melek כְּמַלְאַ֣ךְ as an angel mălʾok הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים of God: ʾĕlōhîm וַֽעֲשֵׂ֥ה do ʿāśâ הַטּ֖וֹב therefore good ṭôb בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃ in thine eyes. ʿayin
  28. כִּי֩ For לֹ֨א but lōʾ הָיָ֜ה were hāyâ כָּל all kōl בֵּ֣ית house bayit אָבִ֗י my father's ʾāb כִּ֤י אִם ʾim אַנְשֵׁי men ʾîš מָ֙וֶת֙ dead māwet לַֽאדֹנִ֣י before my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king: melek וַתָּ֙שֶׁת֙ yet didst thou set šît אֶֽת ʾēt עַבְדְּךָ֔ thy servant ʿebed בְּאֹֽכְלֵ֖י among them that did eat ʾākal שֻׁלְחָנֶ֑ךָ at thine own table. šulḥān וּמַה What יֶּשׁ therefore have yēš לִ֥י עוֹד֙ I yet ʿôd צְדָקָ֔ה right ṣĕdāqâ וְלִזְעֹ֥ק to cry zāʿaq ע֖וֹד any more ʿôd אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king? melek
  29. וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar לוֹ֙ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ And the king melek לָ֛מָּה unto him, Why תְּדַבֵּ֥ר speakest dābar ע֖וֹד thou any more ʿôd דְּבָרֶ֑יךָ of thy matters? dābār אָמַ֕רְתִּי I have said, ʾāmar אַתָּ֣ה Thou ʾattâ וְצִיבָ֔א and Ziba ṣîbāʾ תַּחְלְק֖וּ divide ḥālaq אֶת ʾēt הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃ the land. śāde
  30. וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar מְפִיבֹ֙שֶׁת֙ And Mephibosheth mĕpîbōšet אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek גַּ֥ם Yea, gam אֶת ʾēt הַכֹּ֖ל all, kōl יִקָּ֑ח let him take lāqaḥ אַֽ֠חֲרֵי forasmuch ʾaḥar אֲשֶׁר as ʾăšer בָּ֞א is come again bôʾ אֲדֹנִ֥י my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּ֛לֶך the king melek בְּשָׁל֖וֹם in peace šālôm אֶל unto ʾēl בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ his own house. bayit
  31. וּבַרְזִלַּי֙ And Barzillai barzillay הַגִּלְעָדִ֔י the Gileadite gilʿādî יָרַ֖ד came down yārad מֵרֹֽגְלִ֑ים from Rogelim, rōgĕlîm וַיַּֽעֲבֹ֤ר and went over ʿābar אֶת with ʾēt הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ the king, melek הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן Jordan yardēn לְשַׁלְּח֖וֹ to conduct šālaḥ אֶת him over ʾēt בַַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ Jordan. yardēn
  32. וּבַרְזִלַּי֙ Now Barzillai barzillay זָקֵ֣ן aged zāqēn מְאֹ֔ד was a very mĕʾōd בֶּן old: bēn שְׁמֹנִ֖ים man, fourscore šĕmōnîm שָׁנָ֑ה years šāne וְהֽוּא and he hûʾ כִלְכַּ֤ל of sustenance kûl אֶת had provided ʾēt הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ the king melek בְּשִֽׁיבָת֣וֹ while he lay šîbâ בְמַֽחֲנַ֔יִם at Mahanaim; maḥănayim כִּי for אִ֛ישׁ man. ʾîš גָּד֥וֹל great gādôl ה֖וּא he hûʾ מְאֹֽד׃ a very mĕʾōd
  33. וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said ʾāmar הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ And the king melek אֶל unto ʾēl בַּרְזִלָּ֑י Barzillai, barzillay אַתָּה֙ thou ʾattâ עֲבֹ֣ר Come ʿābar אִתִּ֔י over with me, ʾēt וְכִלְכַּלְתִּ֥י and I will feed kûl אֹֽתְךָ֛ ʾēt עִמָּדִ֖י ʿimmād בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ thee with me in Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim
  34. וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said ʾāmar בַּרְזִלַּ֖י And Barzillai barzillay אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ the king, melek כַּמָּ֗ה How יְמֵי֙ long yôm שְׁנֵ֣י šĕnayim חַיַּ֔י have I to live, ḥay כִּֽי that אֶעֱלֶ֥ה I should go up ʿālâ אֶת with ʾēt הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ unto Jerusalem? yĕrûšālaim
  35. בֶּן old: bēn שְׁמֹנִ֣ים fourscore šĕmōnîm שָׁנָה֩ years šāne אָֽנֹכִ֨י I ʾānōkî הַיּ֜וֹם this day yôm הַֽאֵדַ֣ע׀ can I discern yādaʿ בֵּֽין between bên ט֣וֹב good ṭôb לְרָ֗ע and evil? raʿ אִם can ʾim יִטְעַ֤ם taste ṭāʿam עַבְדְּךָ֙ thy servant ʿebed אֶת ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֤ר what ʾăšer אֹכַל֙ I eat ʾākal וְאֶת ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֣ר or what ʾăšer אֶשְׁתֶּ֔ה I drink? šātâ אִם can ʾim אֶשְׁמַ֣ע I hear šāmaʿ ע֔וֹד any more ʿôd בְּק֖וֹל the voice qôl שָׁרִ֣ים of singing men šîr וְשָׁר֑וֹת and singing women? šîr וְלָמָּה֩ wherefore יִֽהְיֶ֨ה be hāyâ עַבְדְּךָ֥ then should thy servant ʿebed עוֹד֙ yet ʿôd לְמַשָּׂ֔א a burden maśśāʾ אֶל unto ʾēl אֲדֹנִ֖י my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king? melek
  36. כִּמְעַ֞ט a little way mĕʿaṭ יַֽעֲבֹ֧ר will go ʿābar עַבְדְּךָ֛ Thy servant ʿebed אֶת over ʾēt הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן Jordan yardēn אֶת with ʾēt הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ the king: melek וְלָ֙מָּה֙ and why יִגְמְלֵ֣נִי recompense gāmal הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ should the king melek הַגְּמוּלָ֖ה a reward? gĕmûlâ הַזֹּֽאת׃ it me with such zōt
  37. יָֽשָׁב turn back again, šûb נָ֤א I pray thee, nāʾ עַבְדְּךָ֙ Let thy servant, ʿebed וְאָמֻ֣ת that I may die mût בְּעִירִ֔י in mine own city, ʿîr עִ֛ם by ʿim קֶ֥בֶר the grave qeber אָבִ֖י of my father ʾāb וְאִמִּ֑י and of my mother. ʾēm וְהִנֵּ֣ה׀ But behold hinnē עַבְדְּךָ֣ thy servant ʿebed כִמְהָ֗ם Chimham; kimhām יַֽעֲבֹר֙ let him go over ʿābar עִם with ʿim אֲדֹנִ֣י my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king; melek וַֽעֲשֵׂה and do ʿāśâ ל֕וֹ אֵ֥ת to him ʾēt אֲשֶׁר what ʾăšer ט֖וֹב good unto thee. ṭôb בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃ shall seem ʿayin
  38. וַיֹּ֣אמֶר answered, ʾāmar הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ And the king melek אִתִּי֙ with ʾēt יַֽעֲבֹ֣ר shall go over ʿābar כִּמְהָ֔ם Chimham kimhām וַֽאֲנִי֙ me, and I ʾănî אֶֽעֱשֶׂה will do ʿāśâ לּ֔וֹ אֶת to him ʾēt הַטּ֖וֹב good ṭôb בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ that which shall seem ʿayin וְכֹ֛ל kōl אֲשֶׁר unto thee: and whatsoever ʾăšer תִּבְחַ֥ר thou shalt require bāḥar עָלַ֖י of ʿal אֶֽעֱשֶׂה me, will I do for thee. ʿāśâ לָּֽךְ׃
  39. וַיַּֽעֲבֹ֧ר went over ʿābar כָּל And all kōl הָעָ֛ם the people ʿam אֶת ʾēt הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן Jordan. yardēn וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ And when the king melek עָבָ֑ר was come over, ʿābar וַיִּשַּׁ֨ק kissed nāšaq הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ the king melek לְבַרְזִלַּי֙ Barzillai, barzillay וַיְבָ֣רֲכֵ֔הוּ and blessed bārak וַיָּ֖שָׁב him; and he returned šûb לִמְקֹמֽוֹ׃ unto his own place. māqôm
  40. וַיַּֽעֲבֹ֤ר went on ʿābar הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ Then the king melek הַגִּלְגָּ֔לָה to Gilgal, gilgāl וְכִמְהָ֖ן and Chimham kimhām עָבַ֣ר went on ʿābar עִמּ֑וֹ with ʿim וְכָל him: and all kōl עַ֤ם the people ʿam יְהוּדָה֙ of Judah yĕhûdâ וֶיֽעֱבִ֣רוּ conducted ʿābar אֶת ʾēt הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek וְגַ֕ם and also gam חֲצִ֖י half ḥēṣî עַ֥ם the people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl
  41. וְהִנֵּ֛ה And, behold, hinnē כָּל all kōl אִ֥ישׁ the men ʾîš יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl בָּאִ֣ים came bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ the king, melek וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ and said ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֡לֶךְ the king, melek מַדּוּעַ֩ Why maddûaʿ גְּנָב֨וּךָ stolen thee away, gānab אַחֵ֜ינוּ have our brethren ʾāḥ אִ֣ישׁ the men ʾîš יְהוּדָ֗ה of Judah yĕhûdâ וַיַּֽעֲבִ֨רוּ and have brought ʿābar אֶת ʾēt הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ the king, melek וְאֶת him, over ʾēt בֵּיתוֹ֙ and his household, bayit אֶת ʾēt הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן Jordan? yardēn וְכָל and all kōl אַנְשֵׁ֥י men ʾîš דָוִ֖ד David's dāwid עִמּֽוֹ׃ with ʿim
  42. וַיַּעַן֩ answered ʿānâ כָּל And all kōl אִ֨ישׁ the men ʾîš יְהוּדָ֜ה of Judah yĕhûdâ עַל ʿal אִ֣ישׁ the men ʾîš יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl כִּֽי Because קָר֤וֹב near of kin qārôb הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ the king melek אֵלַ֔י to ʾēl וְלָ֤מָּה us: wherefore זֶּה֙ ze חָרָ֣ה then be ye angry ḥārâ לְךָ֔ עַל for ʿal הַדָּבָ֖ר matter? dābār הַזֶּ֑ה this ze הֶֽאָכ֤וֹל have we eaten ʾākal אָכַ֙לְנוּ֙ at all ʾākal מִן of min הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king's melek אִם or ʾim נִשֵּׂ֥את us any gift? niśśēt נִשָּׂ֖א hath he given nāśāʾ לָֽנוּ׃
  43. וַיַּ֣עַן answered ʿānâ אִֽישׁ And the men ʾîš יִשְׂרָאֵל֩ of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶת ʾēt אִ֨ישׁ the men ʾîš יְהוּדָ֜ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר and said, ʾāmar עֶֽשֶׂר We have ten ʿeśer יָד֨וֹת parts yād לִ֣י בַמֶּלֶךְ֮ in the king, melek וְגַם have also gam בְּדָוִד֮ more in David dāwid אֲנִ֣י and we ʾănî מִמְּךָ֒ than min וּמַדּ֙וּעַ֙ ye: why maddûaʿ הֱקִלֹּתַ֔נִי then did ye despise qālal וְלֹֽא should not lōʾ הָיָ֨ה be hāyâ דְבָרִ֥י us, that our advice dābār רִאשׁ֛וֹן first riʾšôn לִ֖י לְהָשִׁ֣יב had in bringing back šûb אֶת ʾēt מַלְכִּ֑י our king? melek וַיִּ֙קֶשׁ֙ were fiercer qāšâ דְּבַר And the words dābār אִ֣ישׁ of the men ʾîš יְהוּדָ֔ה of Judah yĕhûdâ מִדְּבַ֖ר than the words dābār אִ֥ישׁ of the men ʾîš יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl
