בִּשְׁנַ֣ת year šāne שְׁתַּ֔יִם In the second šĕnayim לְיוֹאָ֥שׁ of Joash yôʾoš בֶּן son bēn יֽוֹאָחָ֖ז of Jehoahaz yôʾāḥāz מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מָלַ֛ךְ reigned mālak אֲמַצְיָ֥הוּ Amaziah ʾămaṣyâ בֶן the son bēn יוֹאָ֖שׁ of Joash yôʾoš מֶ֥לֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָֽה׃ of Judah. yĕhûdâ

בֶּן old bēn עֶשְׂרִ֨ים twenty ʿeśrîm וְחָמֵ֤שׁ and five ḥāmēš שָׁנָה֙ years šāne הָיָ֣ה He was hāyâ בְמָלְכ֔וֹ when he began to reign, mālak וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים twenty ʿeśrîm וָתֵ֙שַׁע֙ and nine tēšaʿ שָׁנָ֔ה years šāne מָלַ֖ךְ and reigned mālak בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם in Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim וְשֵׁ֣ם name šēm אִמּ֔וֹ And his mother's ʾēm יְהֽוֹעַדָּ֖ין Jehoaddan yĕhôʿaddîn מִן of min יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim

וַיַּ֤עַשׂ And he did ʿāśâ הַיָּשָׁר֙ right yāšār בְּעֵינֵ֣י in the sight ʿayin יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ רַ֕ק yet raq לֹ֖א not lōʾ כְּדָוִ֣ד like David dāwid אָבִ֑יו his father: ʾāb כְּכֹ֧ל according to all things kōl אֲשֶׁר as ʾăšer עָשָׂ֛ה he did ʿāśâ יוֹאָ֥שׁ Joash yôʾoš אָבִ֖יו his father ʾāb עָשָֽׂה׃ did. ʿāśâ

רַ֥ק Howbeit raq הַבָּמ֖וֹת the high places bāmâ לֹא were not lōʾ סָ֑רוּ taken away: sûr ע֥וֹד as yet ʿôd הָעָ֛ם the people ʿam מְזַבְּחִ֥ים did sacrifice zābaḥ וּֽמְקַטְּרִ֖ים and burnt incense qāṭar בַּבָּמֽוֹת׃ on the high places. bāmâ

וַיְהִ֕י And it came to pass, hāyâ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר as soon as ʾăšer חָזְקָ֥ה was confirmed ḥāzaq הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה the kingdom mamlākâ בְּיָד֑וֹ in his hand, yād וַיַּךְ֙ that he slew nākâ אֶת ʾēt עֲבָדָ֔יו his servants ʿebed הַמַּכִּ֖ים which had slain nākâ אֶת ʾēt הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ the king melek אָבִֽיו׃ his father. ʾāb

וְאֶת ʾēt בְּנֵ֥י But the children bēn הַמַּכִּ֖ים of the murderers nākâ לֹ֣א not: lōʾ הֵמִ֑ית he slew mût כַּכָּת֣וּב according unto that which is written kātab בְּסֵֽפֶר in the book sēper תּֽוֹרַת of the law tôrâ מֹ֠שֶׁה of Moses, mōše אֲשֶׁר wherein ʾăšer צִוָּ֨ה commanded, ṣāwâ יְהוָ֜ה the Lord yĕhōwâ לֵאמֹ֗ר saying, ʾāmar לֹֽא shall not lōʾ יוּמְת֨וּ be put to death mût אָב֤וֹת The fathers ʾāb עַל for ʿal בָּנִים֙ the children, bēn וּבָנִים֙ the children bēn לֹֽא nor lōʾ יוּמְת֣וּ be put to death mût עַל for ʿal אָב֔וֹת the fathers; ʾāb כִּ֛י but kî אִם ʾim אִ֥ישׁ every man ʾîš בְּחֶטְא֖וֹ for his own sin. ḥēṭĕʾ ימּוָֽת׃ shall be put to death mût

הוּא He hûʾ הִכָּ֨ה slew nākâ אֶת ʾēt אֱד֤וֹם of Edom ʾĕdōm בְּגֵי in the valley gayʾ המֶ֙לַח֙ of salt melaḥ עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת ten ʿeśer אֲלָפִ֔ים thousand, ʾelep וְתָפַ֥שׂ and took tāpaś אֶת ʾēt הַסֶּ֖לַע Selah selaʿ בַּמִּלְחָמָ֑ה by war, milḥāmâ וַיִּקְרָ֤א and called qārāʾ אֶת ʾēt שְׁמָהּ֙ the name šēm יָקְתְאֵ֔ל of it Joktheel yoqtĕʾēl עַ֖ד unto ʿad הַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

אָ֣ז Then ʾāz שָׁלַ֤ח sent šālaḥ אֲמַצְיָה֙ Amaziah ʾămaṣyâ מַלְאָכִ֔ים messengers mălʾok אֶל to ʾēl יְהוֹאָ֨שׁ Jehoash, yĕhôʾoš בֶּן the son bēn יְהֽוֹאָחָ֧ז of Jehoahaz yĕhôʾāḥāz בֶּן son bēn יֵה֛וּא of Jehu, yēhûʾ מֶ֥לֶךְ king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar לְכָ֖ה Come, hālak נִתְרָאֶ֥ה let us look rāʾâ פָנִֽים׃ one another in the face. pānîm

וַיִּשְׁלַ֞ח sent šālaḥ יְהוֹאָ֣שׁ And Jehoash yĕhôʾoš מֶֽלֶךְ the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶל to ʾēl אֲמַצְיָ֣הוּ Amaziah ʾămaṣyâ מֶֽלֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָה֮ of Judah, yĕhûdâ לֵאמֹר֒ saying, ʾāmar הַח֜וֹחַ The thistle ḥôaḥ אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בַּלְּבָנ֗וֹן in Lebanon lĕbānôn שָׁ֠לַח sent šālaḥ אֶל to ʾēl הָאֶ֜רֶז the cedar ʾerez אֲשֶׁ֤ר that ʾăšer בַּלְּבָנוֹן֙ in Lebanon, lĕbānôn לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar תְּנָֽה Give nātan אֶת ʾēt בִּתְּךָ֥ thy daughter bat לִבְנִ֖י to my son bēn לְאִשָּׁ֑ה to wife: ʾiššâ וַֽתַּעֲבֹ֞ר and there passed by ʿābar חַיַּ֤ת beast ḥay הַשָּׂדֶה֙ a wild śāde אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בַּלְּבָנ֔וֹן in Lebanon, lĕbānôn וַתִּרְמֹ֖ס and trode down rāmas אֶת ʾēt הַחֽוֹחַ׃ the thistle. ḥôaḥ

הַכֵּ֤ה Thou hast indeed nākâ הִכִּ֙יתָ֙ smitten nākâ אֶת ʾēt אֱד֔וֹם Edom, ʾĕdōm וּֽנְשָׂאֲךָ֖ hath lifted thee up: nāśāʾ לִבֶּ֑ךָ and thine heart lēb הִכָּבֵד֙ glory kābad וְשֵׁ֣ב and tarry yāšab בְּבֵיתֶ֔ךָ at home: bayit וְלָ֤מָּה for why mâ תִתְגָּרֶה֙ shouldest thou meddle gārâ בְּרָעָ֔ה to hurt, raʿ וְנָ֣פַלְתָּ֔ה that thou shouldest fall, nāpal אַתָּ֖ה thou, ʾattâ וִֽיהוּדָ֥ה and Judah yĕhûdâ עִמָּֽךְ׃ with thee? ʿim

וְלֹֽא would not lōʾ שָׁמַ֣ע hear. šāmaʿ אֲמַצְיָ֔הוּ But Amaziah ʾămaṣyâ וַיַּ֨עַל went up; ʿālâ יְהוֹאָ֤שׁ Therefore Jehoash yĕhôʾoš מֶֽלֶךְ king melek יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl וַיִּתְרָא֣וּ looked rāʾâ פָנִ֔ים one another in the face pānîm ה֖וּא and he hûʾ וַֽאֲמַצְיָ֣הוּ and Amaziah ʾămaṣyâ מֶֽלֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָ֑ה of Judah yĕhûdâ בְּבֵ֥ית שֶׁ֖מֶשׁ at Beth-shemesh, bêt šemeš אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer לִֽיהוּדָֽה׃ to Judah. yĕhûdâ

וַיִּנָּ֥גֶף was put to the worse nāgap יְהוּדָ֖ה And Judah yĕhûdâ לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel; yiśrāʾēl וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ and they fled nûs אִ֥ישׁ every man ʾîš לְאֹֽהָלָֽו׃ to their tents. ʾōhel

וְאֵת֩ ʾēt אֲמַצְיָ֨הוּ Amaziah ʾămaṣyâ מֶֽלֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָ֜ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ בֶּן the son bēn יְהוֹאָ֣שׁ And Jehoash yĕhôʾoš בֶּן the son bēn אֲחַזְיָ֗הוּ of Ahaziah, ʾăḥazyâ תָּפַ֛שׂ took tāpaś יְהוֹאָ֥שׁ of Jehoash yĕhôʾoš מֶֽלֶךְ king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl בְּבֵ֣ית שָׁ֑מֶשׁ at Beth-shemesh, bêt šemeš וַיָּבֹא֙ו and came bôʾ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם to Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim וַיִּפְרֹץ֩ and brake down pāraṣ בְּחוֹמַ֨ת the wall ḥômâ יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֜ם of Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim בְּשַׁ֤עַר from the gate šaʿar אֶפְרַ֙יִם֙ of Ephraim ʾeprayim עַד unto ʿad שַׁ֣עַר gate, šaʿar הַפִּנָּ֔ה the corner pinnâ אַרְבַּ֥ע four ʾarbaʿ מֵא֖וֹת hundred mēʾâ אַמָּֽה׃ cubits. ʾammâ

וְלָקַ֣ח And he took lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַזָּֽהָב the gold zāhāb וְ֠הַכֶּסֶף and silver, kesep וְאֵ֨ת ʾēt כָּל and all kōl הַכֵּלִ֜ים the vessels kĕlî הַנִּמְצְאִ֣ים that were found māṣāʾ בֵּית in the house bayit יְהוָ֗ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וּבְאֹֽצְרוֹת֙ and in the treasures ʾôṣār בֵּ֣ית house, bayit הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ of the king's melek וְאֵ֖ת ʾēt בְּנֵ֣י and hostages, bēn הַתַּֽעֲרֻב֑וֹת taʿărubâ וַיָּ֖שָׁב and returned šûb שֹֽׁמְרֽוֹנָה׃ to Samaria. šōmĕrôn

וְיֶתֶר֩ Now the rest yeter דִּבְרֵ֨י of the acts dābār יְהוֹאָ֜שׁ of Jehoash yĕhôʾoš אֲשֶׁ֤ר which ʾăšer עָשָׂה֙ he did, ʿāśâ וּגְב֣וּרָת֔וֹ and his might, gĕbûrâ וַֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר and how ʾăšer נִלְחַ֔ם he fought lāḥam עִ֖ם with ʿim אֲמַצְיָ֣הוּ Amaziah ʾămaṣyâ מֶֽלֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָ֑ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ הֲלֹא not lōʾ הֵ֣ם they hēm כְּתוּבִ֗ים written kātab עַל in ʿal סֵ֛פֶר the book sēper דִּבְרֵ֥י of the chronicles dābār הַיָּמִ֖ים yôm לְמַלְכֵ֥י of the kings melek יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel? yiśrāʾēl

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב slept šākab יְהוֹאָשׁ֙ And Jehoash yĕhôʾoš עִם with ʿim אֲבֹתָ֔יו his fathers, ʾāb וַיִּקָּבֵר֙ and was buried qābar בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן in Samaria šōmĕrôn עִ֖ם with ʿim מַלְכֵ֣י the kings melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel; yiśrāʾēl וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ reigned mālak יָֽרָבְעָ֥ם and Jeroboam yorobʿām בְּנ֖וֹ his son bēn תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ in his stead. taḥat

וַיְחִ֨י lived ḥāyâ אֲמַצְיָ֤הוּ And Amaziah ʾămaṣyâ בֶן the son bēn יוֹאָשׁ֙ of Joash yôʾoš מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָ֔ה of Judah yĕhûdâ אַֽחֲרֵ֣י after ʾaḥar מ֔וֹת the death māwet יְהוֹאָ֥שׁ of Jehoash yĕhôʾoš בֶּן son bēn יְהֽוֹאָחָ֖ז of Jehoahaz yĕhôʾāḥāz מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl חֲמֵ֥שׁ fifteen ḥāmēš עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה ʿāśār שָׁנָֽה׃ years. šāne

וַיִּקְשְׁר֨וּ Now they made qāšar עָלָ֥יו against ʿal קֶ֛שֶׁר a conspiracy qešer בִּירֽוּשָׁלִַ֖ם him in Jerusalem: yĕrûšālaim וַיָּ֣נָס and he fled nûs לָכִ֑ישָׁה to Lachish; lākîš וַיִּשְׁלְח֤וּ but they sent šālaḥ אַֽחֲרָיו֙ after ʾaḥar לָכִ֔ישָׁה him to Lachish, lākîš וַיְמִתֻ֖הוּ and slew mût שָֽׁם׃ him there. šām

וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ And they brought nāśāʾ אֹת֖וֹ ʾēt עַל him on ʿal הַסּוּסִ֑ים horses: sûs וַיִּקָּבֵ֧ר and he was buried qābar בִּירֽוּשָׁלִַ֛ם at Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim עִם with ʿim אֲבֹתָ֖יו his fathers ʾāb בְּעִ֥יר in the city ʿîr דָּוִֽד׃ of David. dāwid

וַיִּקְח֞וּ took lāqaḥ כָּל And all kōl עַ֤ם the people ʿam יְהוּדָה֙ of Judah yĕhûdâ אֶת ʾēt עֲזַרְיָ֔ה Azariah, ʿăzaryâ וְה֕וּא which hûʾ בֶּן old, bēn שֵׁ֥שׁ sixteen šēš עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה ʿāśār שָׁנָ֑ה years šāne וַיַּמְלִ֣כוּ and made him king mālak אֹת֔וֹ ʾēt תַּ֖חַת instead of taḥat אָבִ֥יו his father ʾāb אֲמַצְיָֽהוּ׃ Amaziah. ʾămaṣyâ

ה֚וּא He hûʾ בָּנָ֣ה built bānâ אֶת ʾēt אֵילַ֔ת Elath, ʾêlôt וַיְשִׁבֶ֖הָ and restored šûb לִֽיהוּדָ֑ה it to Judah, yĕhûdâ אַֽחֲרֵ֥י after that ʾaḥar שְׁכַֽב slept šākab הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek עִם with ʿim אֲבֹתָֽיו׃ his fathers. ʾāb

בִּשְׁנַת֙ šāne חֲמֵשׁ ḥāmēš עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה In the fifteenth ʿāśār שָׁנָ֔ה year šāne לַֽאֲמַצְיָ֥הוּ of Amaziah ʾămaṣyâ בֶן the son bēn יוֹאָ֖שׁ of Joash yôʾoš מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָ֑ה of Judah yĕhûdâ מָ֠לַךְ began to reign mālak יָֽרָבְעָ֨ם Jeroboam yorobʿām בֶּן the son bēn יוֹאָ֤שׁ of Joash yôʾoš מֶֽלֶךְ king melek יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן in Samaria, šōmĕrôn אַרְבָּעִ֥ים forty ʾarbāʿîm וְאַחַ֖ת and one ʾeḥād שָׁנָֽה׃ years. šāne

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ And he did ʿāśâ הָרַ֖ע evil raʿ בְּעֵינֵ֣י in the sight ʿayin יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord: yĕhōwâ לֹ֣א not lōʾ סָ֗ר he departed sûr מִכָּל from all kōl חַטֹּאות֙ the sins ḥaṭṭāʾâ יָֽרָבְעָ֣ם of Jeroboam yorobʿām בֶּן the son bēn נְבָ֔ט of Nebat, nĕbāṭ אֲשֶׁ֥ר who ʾăšer הֶֽחֱטִ֖יא to sin. ḥāṭāʾ אֶת made ʾēt יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel yiśrāʾēl

ה֗וּא He hûʾ הֵשִׁיב֙ restored šûb אֶת ʾēt גְּב֣וּל the coast gĕbûl יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מִלְּב֥וֹא from the entering bôʾ חֲמָ֖ת of Hamath ḥămāt עַד unto ʿad יָ֣ם the sea yām הָֽעֲרָבָ֑ה of the plain, ʿărābâ כִּדְבַ֤ר according to the word dābār יְהוָה֙ of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֣י God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֗ר he spake dābar בְּיַד by the hand yād עַבְדּ֞וֹ of his servant ʿebed יוֹנָ֤ה Jonah, yônâ בֶן the son bēn אֲמִתַּי֙ of Amittai, ʾămittay הַנָּבִ֔יא the prophet, nābîʾ אֲשֶׁ֖ר which ʾăšer מִגַּ֥ת הַחֵֽפֶר׃ of Gath-hepher. gat haḥēper

כִּֽי For kî רָאָ֧ה saw rāʾâ יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt עֳנִ֥י the affliction ʿŏnî יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl מֹרֶ֣ה bitter: mārâ מְאֹ֑ד very mĕʾōd וְאֶ֤פֶס for not any ʾepes עָצוּר֙ shut up, ʿāṣār וְאֶ֣פֶס nor any ʾepes עָז֔וּב left, ʿāzab וְאֵ֥ין nor any ʾayin עֹזֵ֖ר helper ʿāzar לְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ for Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וְלֹֽא not lōʾ דִבֶּ֣ר said dābar יְהוָ֔ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ לִמְחוֹת֙ that he would blot out māḥâ אֶת ʾēt שֵׁ֣ם the name šēm יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מִתַּ֖חַת from under taḥat הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם heaven: šāmayim וַיּ֣וֹשִׁיעֵ֔ם but he saved yāšaʿ בְּיַ֖ד them by the hand yād יָֽרָבְעָ֥ם of Jeroboam yorobʿām בֶּן the son bēn יוֹאָֽשׁ׃ of Joash. yôʾoš

וְיֶתֶר֩ Now the rest yeter דִּבְרֵ֨י of the acts dābār יָֽרָבְעָ֜ם of Jeroboam, yorobʿām וְכָל and all kōl אֲשֶׁ֤ר that ʾăšer עָשָׂה֙ he did, ʿāśâ וּגְבֽוּרָת֣וֹ and his might, gĕbûrâ אֲשֶׁר how ʾăšer נִלְחָ֔ם he warred, lāḥam וַֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר and how ʾăšer הֵשִׁ֜יב he recovered šûb אֶת ʾēt דַּמֶּ֧שֶׂק Damascus, dammeśeq וְאֶת ʾēt חֲמָ֛ת and Hamath, ḥămāt לִֽיהוּדָ֖ה to Judah, yĕhûdâ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל for Israel, yiśrāʾēl הֲלֹא not lōʾ הֵ֣ם they hēm כְּתוּבִ֗ים are written kātab עַל in ʿal סֵ֛פֶר the book sēper דִּבְרֵ֥י of the chronicles dābār הַיָּמִ֖ים yôm לְמַלְכֵ֥י of the kings melek יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel? yiśrāʾēl

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב slept šākab יָֽרָבְעָם֙ And Jeroboam yorobʿām עִם with ʿim אֲבֹתָ֔יו his fathers, ʾāb עִ֖ם with ʿim מַלְכֵ֣י the kings melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel; yiśrāʾēl וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ reigned mālak זְכַרְיָ֥ה and Zachariah zĕkaryâ בְנ֖וֹ his son bēn תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ in his stead. taḥat
