அப்பொழுது தாவீது: உம்முடைய கண்களில் எனக்குத் தயைகிடைத்தது என்று உம்முடைய தகப்பன் நன்றாய் அறிவார்; ஆகையால் யோனத்தானுக்கு மனநோவு உண்டாகாதபடிக்கு அவன் இதை அறியப்போகாது என்பார்; மரணத்திற்கும் எனக்கும் ஒரு அடி தூரமாத்திரம் இருக்கிறது என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனையும் உம்முடைய ஜீவனையும் கொண்டு நிச்சயமாய்ச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று மறுமொழி சொல்லி ஆணையிட்டான்.

ஆனால் தாவீது, “உன் கண்களில் எனக்கு தயை கிடைத்தது, இதை உன் தந்தை அறிவார். அதனால், என்னிடமுள்ள நட்பினிமித்தம் நீ சஞ்சலம் அடையாதபடிக்கு இதை உன்னிடம் மறைத்தார். கர்த்தர் ஜீவித்திருக்க நீயும் ஜீவித்திருக்கிற உண்மைபடி கூறுகிறேன். நான் மரணத்தை நெருங்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறேன்!” என்று பதிலளித்தான்.

அதற்குத் தாவீது, “உன் கண்களில் எனக்கு இரக்கம் கிடைத்துள்ளது என்று உன் தந்தைக்கு நன்கு தெரியும். ஆகையால், ‘யோனத்தான் இதை அறிய நேர்ந்தால் அவன் வேதனையடைவான்’ என்று அவர் நினைக்கிறார். ஆனால், இது உண்மை; எனக்கும் சாவுக்கும் ஓர் அடி தூரந்தான் உள்ளது. வாழும் ஆண்டவர் மேல் ஆணை! உன் மேலும் ஆணை!” என்றார்.

Appoluthu David: ummutaiya kannkalil enakkuth thayaikitaiththathu entu ummutaiya thakappan nantay arivaar; aakaiyaal yonaththaanukku manaNnovu unndaakaathapatikku avan ithai ariyappokaathu enpaar; maranaththirkum enakkum oru ati thooramaaththiram irukkirathu entu karththarutaiya jeevanaiyum ummutaiya jeevanaiyum konndu nichchayamaaych sollukiraேn entu maraுmoli solli aannaiyittan.
