בַּחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ month, ḥōdeš הַשְּׁמִינִ֔י In the eighth šĕmînî בִּשְׁנַ֥ת year šāne שְׁתַּ֖יִם in the second šĕnayim לְדָרְיָ֑וֶשׁ of Darius, dārĕyāwēš הָיָ֣ה came hāyâ דְבַר the word dābār יְהוָ֗ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl זְכַרְיָה֙ Zechariah, zĕkaryâ בֶּן the son bēn בֶּ֣רֶכְיָ֔ה of Berechiah, berekyâ בֶּן the son bēn עִדּ֥וֹ of Iddo ʿiddô הַנָּבִ֖יא the prophet, nābîʾ לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

קָצַ֧ף displeased qāṣap יְהוָ֛ה The Lord yĕhōwâ עַל with ʿal אֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם your fathers. ʾāb קָֽצֶף׃ hath been sore qeṣep

וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ Therefore say ʾāmar אֲלֵהֶ֗ם thou unto ʾēl כֹּ֤ה them, Thus kō אָמַר֙ saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֔וֹת of hosts; ṣābāʾ שׁ֣וּבוּ Turn šûb אֵלַ֔י ye unto ʾēl נְאֻ֖ם me, saith nĕʾum יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֑וֹת of hosts, ṣābāʾ וְאָשׁ֣וּב and I will turn šûb אֲלֵיכֶ֔ם unto ʾēl אָמַ֖ר you, saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָאֽוֹת׃ of hosts. ṣābāʾ

אַל ye not ʾal תִּהְי֣וּ Be hāyâ כַאֲבֹֽתֵיכֶ֡ם as your fathers, ʾāb אֲשֶׁ֣ר whom ʾăšer קָרְאֽוּ have cried, qārāʾ אֲלֵיהֶם֩ unto ʾēl הַנְּבִיאִ֨ים prophets nābîʾ הָרִֽאשֹׁנִ֜ים the former riʾšôn לֵאמֹ֗ר saying, ʾāmar כֹּ֤ה Thus kō אָמַר֙ saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֔וֹת of hosts; ṣābāʾ שׁ֤וּבוּ Turn šûb נָא֙ ye now nāʾ מִדַּרְכֵיכֶ֣ם ways, derek הָרָעִ֔ים from your evil raʿ וּמַֽעַלְילֵיכֶ֖ם doings: maʿălāl הָֽרָעִ֑ים and your evil raʿ וְלֹ֥א but they did not lōʾ שָׁמְע֛וּ hear, šāmaʿ וְלֹֽא nor lōʾ הִקְשִׁ֥יבוּ hearken qāšab אֵלַ֖י unto ʾēl נְאֻם me, saith nĕʾum יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord. yĕhōwâ

אֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם Your fathers, ʾāb אַיֵּה where ʾayyē הֵ֑ם they? hēm וְהַ֨נְּבִאִ֔ים and the prophets, nābîʾ הַלְעוֹלָ֖ם for ever? ʿôlām יִֽחְיֽוּ׃ do they live ḥāyâ

אַ֣ךְ׀ But ʾak דְּבָרַ֣י my words dābār וְחֻקַּ֗י and my statutes, ḥōq אֲשֶׁ֤ר which ʾăšer צִוִּ֙יתִי֙ I commanded ṣāwâ אֶת ʾēt עֲבָדַ֣י my servants ʿebed הַנְּבִיאִ֔ים the prophets, nābîʾ הֲל֥וֹא did they not lōʾ הִשִּׂ֖יגוּ take hold nāśag אֲבֹתֵיכֶ֑ם of your fathers? ʾāb וַיָּשׁ֣וּבוּ and they returned šûb וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ and said, ʾāmar כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר Like as ʾăšer זָמַ֜ם thought zāmam יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָאוֹת֙ of hosts ṣābāʾ לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת to do ʿāśâ לָ֔נוּ כִּדְרָכֵ֙ינוּ֙ unto us, according to our ways, derek וּכְמַ֣עֲלָלֵ֔ינוּ and according to our doings, maʿălāl כֵּ֖ן so kēn עָשָׂ֥ה hath he dealt ʿāśâ אִתָּֽנוּ׃ with us. ʾēt

בְּיוֹם֩ day yôm עֶשְׂרִ֨ים and twentieth ʿeśrîm וְאַרְבָּעָ֜ה Upon the four ʾarbaʿ לְעַשְׁתֵּֽי of the eleventh ʿaštê עָשָׂ֥ר ʿāśār חֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ month, ḥōdeš הוּא which hûʾ חֹ֣דֶשׁ the month ḥōdeš שְׁבָ֔ט Sebat, šĕbāṭ בִּשְׁנַ֥ת year šāne שְׁתַּ֖יִם in the second šĕnayim לְדָרְיָ֑וֶשׁ of Darius, dārĕyāwēš הָיָ֣ה came hāyâ דְבַר the word dābār יְהוָ֗ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl זְכַרְיָה֙ Zechariah, zĕkaryâ בֶּן the son bēn בֶּ֣רֶכְיָ֔הוּ of Berechiah, berekyâ בֶּן the son bēn עִדּ֥וֹא of Iddo ʿiddô הַנָּבִ֖יא the prophet, nābîʾ לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

רָאִ֣יתִי׀ I saw rāʾâ הַלַּ֗יְלָה by night, layil וְהִנֵּה and behold hinnē אִישׁ֙ a man ʾîš רֹכֵב֙ riding rākab עַל upon ʿal ס֣וּס horse, sûs אָדֹ֔ם a red ʾādōm וְה֣וּא and he hûʾ עֹמֵ֔ד stood ʿāmad בֵּ֥ין among bên הַהֲדַסִּ֖ים the myrtle trees hădas אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בַּמְּצֻלָ֑ה in the bottom; mĕṣullâ וְאַחֲרָיו֙ and behind ʾaḥar סוּסִ֣ים horses, sûs אֲדֻמִּ֔ים him red ʾādōm שְׂרֻקִּ֖ים speckled, śāruq וּלְבָנִֽים׃ and white. lābān

וָאֹמַ֖ר Then said ʾāmar מָה what mâ אֵ֣לֶּה these? ʾēlle אֲדֹנִ֑י I, O my lord, ʾādôn וַיֹּ֣אמֶר with me said ʾāmar אֵלַ֗י unto ʾēl הַמַּלְאָךְ֙ And the angel mălʾok הַדֹּבֵ֣ר that talked dābar בִּ֔י אֲנִ֥י me, I ʾănî אַרְאֶ֖ךָּ will shew rāʾâ מָה thee what mâ הֵ֥מָּה hēm אֵֽלֶּה׃ these ʾēlle

וַיַּ֗עַן answered ʿānâ הָאִ֛ישׁ And the man ʾîš הָעֹמֵ֥ד that stood ʿāmad בֵּין among bên הַהֲדַסִּ֖ים the myrtle trees hădas וַיֹּאמַ֑ר and said, ʾāmar אֵ֚לֶּה These ʾēlle אֲשֶׁ֣ר whom ʾăšer שָׁלַ֣ח hath sent šālaḥ יְהוָ֔ה the Lord yĕhōwâ לְהִתְהַלֵּ֖ךְ to walk hālak בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ to and fro through the earth. ʾereṣ

וַֽיַּעֲנ֞וּ And they answered ʿānâ אֶת ʾēt מַלְאַ֣ךְ the angel mălʾok יְהוָ֗ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ הָֽעֹמֵד֙ that stood ʿāmad בֵּ֣ין among bên הַהֲדַסִּ֔ים the myrtle trees, hădas וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ and said, ʾāmar הִתְהַלַּ֣כְנוּ We have walked to and fro hālak בָאָ֑רֶץ through the earth, ʾereṣ וְהִנֵּ֥ה and, behold, hinnē כָל all kōl הָאָ֖רֶץ the earth ʾereṣ יֹשֶׁ֥בֶת sitteth still, yāšab וְשֹׁקָֽטֶת׃ and is at rest. šāqaṭ

וַיַּ֣עַן answered ʿānâ מַלְאַךְ Then the angel mălʾok יְהוָה֮ of the Lord yĕhōwâ וַיֹּאמַר֒ and said, ʾāmar יְהוָ֣ה O Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֔וֹת of hosts, ṣābāʾ עַד how long ʿad מָתַ֗י mātay אַתָּה֙ wilt thou ʾattâ לֹֽא not lōʾ תְרַחֵ֣ם have mercy on rāḥam אֶת ʾēt יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim וְאֵ֖ת ʾēt עָרֵ֣י and on the cities ʿîr יְהוּדָ֑ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ אֲשֶׁ֣ר against which ʾăšer זָעַ֔מְתָּה thou hast had indignation zāʿam זֶ֖ה these ze שִׁבְעִ֥ים threescore and ten šibʿîm שָׁנָֽה׃ years? šāne

וַיַּ֣עַן answered ʿānâ יְהוָ֗ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt הַמַּלְאָ֛ךְ the angel mălʾok הַדֹּבֵ֥ר that talked dābar בִּ֖י דְּבָרִ֣ים words dābār טוֹבִ֑ים with me good ṭôb דְּבָרִ֖ים words. dābār נִחֻמִֽים׃ comfortable niḥûm

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר with me said ʾāmar אֵלַ֗י unto ʾēl הַמַּלְאָךְ֙ So the angel mălʾok הַדֹּבֵ֣ר that communed dābar בִּ֔י קְרָ֣א me, Cry qārāʾ לֵאמֹ֔ר thou, saying, ʾāmar כֹּ֥ה Thus kō אָמַ֖ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֑וֹת of hosts; ṣābāʾ קִנֵּ֧אתִי I am jealous qānāʾ לִירוּשָׁלִַ֛ם for Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim וּלְצִיּ֖וֹן and for Zion ṣiyyôn קִנְאָ֥ה jealousy. qinʾâ גְדוֹלָֽה׃ with a great gādôl

וְקֶ֤צֶף sore qeṣep גָּדוֹל֙ am very gādôl אֲנִ֣י And I ʾănî קֹצֵ֔ף displeased qāṣap עַל with ʿal הַגּוֹיִ֖ם the heathen gôy הַשַּֽׁאֲנַנִּ֑ים at ease: šaʾănān אֲשֶׁ֤ר for ʾăšer אֲנִי֙ I ʾănî קָצַ֣פְתִּי displeased, qāṣap מְּעָ֔ט was but a little mĕʿaṭ וְהֵ֖מָּה and they hēm עָזְר֥וּ helped ʿāzar לְרָעָֽה׃ forward the affliction. raʿ

לָכֵ֞ן Therefore kēn כֹּֽה thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֗ה the Lord; yĕhōwâ שַׁ֤בְתִּי I am returned šûb לִירוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ to Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim בְּֽרַחֲמִ֔ים with mercies: raḥam בֵּיתִי֙ my house bayit יִבָּ֣נֶה shall be built bānâ בָּ֔הּ נְאֻ֖ם in it, saith nĕʾum יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֑וֹת of hosts, ṣābāʾ וְקָ֥וה and a line qǎw יִנָּטֶ֖ה shall be stretched forth nāṭâ עַל upon ʿal יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim

ע֣וֹד׀ yet, ʿôd קְרָ֣א Cry qārāʾ לֵאמֹ֗ר saying, ʾāmar כֹּ֤ה Thus kō אָמַר֙ saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֔וֹת of hosts; ṣābāʾ ע֛וֹד shall yet ʿôd תְּפוּצֶ֥נָה be spread abroad; pûṣ עָרַ֖י My cities ʿîr מִטּ֑וֹב through prosperity ṭôb וְנִחַ֨ם comfort nāḥam יְהוָ֥ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ עוֹד֙ shall yet ʿôd אֶת ʾēt צִיּ֔וֹן Zion, ṣiyyôn וּבָחַ֥ר choose bāḥar ע֖וֹד and shall yet ʿôd בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim

וָאֶשָּׂ֥א Then lifted I up nāśāʾ אֶת ʾēt עֵינַ֖י mine eyes, ʿayin וָאֵ֑רֶא and saw, rāʾâ וְהִנֵּ֖ה and behold hinnē אַרְבַּ֥ע four ʾarbaʿ קְרָנֽוֹת׃ horns. qeren

וָאֹמַ֗ר And I said ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl הַמַּלְאָ֛ךְ the angel mălʾok הַדֹּבֵ֥ר that talked dābar בִּ֖י מָה with me, What mâ אֵ֑לֶּה these? ʾēlle וַיֹּ֣אמֶר And he answered ʾāmar אֵלַ֔י ʾēl אֵ֤לֶּה me, These ʾēlle הַקְּרָנוֹת֙ the horns qeren אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer זֵר֣וּ have scattered zārâ אֶת ʾēt יְהוּדָ֔ה Judah, yĕhûdâ אֶת ʾēt יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl וִירוּשָׁלָֽם׃ and Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim

וַיַּרְאֵ֣נִי shewed rāʾâ יְהוָ֔ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אַרְבָּעָ֖ה me four ʾarbaʿ חָרָשִֽׁים׃ carpenters. ḥāroš

וָאֹמַ֕ר Then said ʾāmar מָ֛ה I, What mâ אֵ֥לֶּה these ʾēlle בָאִ֖ים come bôʾ לַֽעֲשׂ֑וֹת to do? ʿāśâ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר And he spake, ʾāmar לֵאמֹ֗ר saying, ʾāmar אֵ֣לֶּה These ʾēlle הַקְּרָנ֞וֹת the horns qeren אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer זֵ֣רוּ have scattered zārâ אֶת ʾēt יְהוּדָ֗ה Judah, yĕhûdâ כְּפִי so that pe אִישׁ֙ man ʾîš לֹא no lōʾ נָשָׂ֣א did lift up nāśāʾ רֹאשׁ֔וֹ his head: rōš וַיָּבֹ֤אוּ are come bôʾ אֵ֙לֶּה֙ but these ʾēlle לְהַחֲרִ֣יד to fray ḥārad אֹתָ֔ם ʾēt לְיַדּ֞וֹת them, to cast out yādâ אֶת ʾēt קַרְנ֣וֹת the horns qeren הַגּוֹיִ֗ם of the Gentiles, gôy הַנֹּשְׂאִ֥ים which lifted up nāśāʾ קֶ֛רֶן horn qeren אֶל over ʾēl אֶ֥רֶץ the land ʾereṣ יְהוּדָ֖ה of Judah yĕhûdâ לְזָרוֹתָֽהּ׃ to scatter it. zārâ
