הֹד֣וּ O give thanks yādâ לַיהוָ֣ה unto the Lord, yĕhōwâ כִּי for kî ט֑וֹב good: ṭôb כִּ֖י for kî לְעוֹלָ֣ם for ever. ʿôlām חַסְדּֽוֹ׃ his mercy ḥēsēd

יֹ֭אמְרוּ say ʾāmar גְּאוּלֵ֣י Let the redeemed gāʾal יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר whom ʾăšer גְּ֝אָלָ֗ם he hath redeemed gāʾal מִיַּד from the hand yād צָֽר׃ of the enemy; ṣar

וּֽמֵאֲרָצ֗וֹת them out of the lands, ʾereṣ קִ֫בְּצָ֥ם And gathered qābaṣ מִמִּזְרָ֥ח from the east, mizrāḥ וּמִֽמַּעֲרָ֑ב and from the west, maʿărāb מִצָּפ֥וֹן from the north, ṣāpôn וּמִיָּֽם׃ and from the south. yām

תָּע֣וּ They wandered tāʿâ בַ֭מִּדְבָּר in the wilderness midbār בִּישִׁימ֣וֹן in a solitary yĕšîmôn דָּ֑רֶךְ way; derek עִ֥יר city ʿîr מ֝וֹשָׁ֗ב to dwell in. môšāb לֹ֣א no lōʾ מָצָֽאוּ׃ they found māṣāʾ

רְעֵבִ֥ים Hungry rāʿēb גַּם and gam צְמֵאִ֑ים thirsty, ṣāmēʾ נַ֝פְשָׁ֗ם their soul nepeš בָּהֶ֥ם תִּתְעַטָּֽף׃ fainted in them. ʿāṭap

וַיִּצְעֲק֣וּ Then they cried ṣāʿaq אֶל unto ʾēl יְ֭הוָה the Lord yĕhōwâ בַּצַּ֣ר in their trouble, ṣar לָהֶ֑ם hēm מִ֝מְּצֽוּקוֹתֵיהֶ֗ם them out of their distresses. mĕṣûqâ יַצִּילֵֽם׃ he delivered nāṣal

וַ֭יַּֽדְרִיכֵם And he led them forth dārak בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ way, derek יְשָׁרָ֑ה by the right yāšār לָ֝לֶ֗כֶת that they might go hālak אֶל to ʾēl עִ֥יר a city ʿîr מוֹשָֽׁב׃ of habitation. môšāb

יוֹד֣וּ Oh that would praise yādâ לַיהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ חַסְדּ֑וֹ his goodness, ḥēsēd וְ֝נִפְלְאוֹתָ֗יו and his wonderful works pālāʾ לִבְנֵ֥י to the children bēn אָדָֽם׃ of men! ʾādām

כִּי For kî הִ֭שְׂבִּיעַ he satisfieth śābaʿ נֶ֣פֶשׁ soul, nepeš שֹׁקֵקָ֑ה the longing šāqaq וְנֶ֥פֶשׁ soul nepeš רְ֝עֵבָה the hungry rāʿēb מִלֵּא and filleth mālēʾ טֽוֹב׃ with goodness. ṭôb

יֹ֭שְׁבֵי Such as sit yāšab חֹ֣שֶׁךְ in darkness ḥōšek וְצַלְמָ֑וֶת and in the shadow of death, ṣalmāwet אֲסִירֵ֖י bound ʾāsîr עֳנִ֣י in affliction ʿŏnî וּבַרְזֶֽל׃ and iron; barzel

כִּֽי Because kî הִמְר֥וּ they rebelled against mārâ אִמְרֵי the words ʾēmer אֵ֑ל of God, ʾēl וַעֲצַ֖ת the counsel ʿēṣâ עֶלְי֣וֹן of the most High: ʿelyôn נָאָֽצוּ׃ and contemned nāʾaṣ

וַיַּכְנַ֣ע Therefore he brought down kānaʿ בֶּעָמָ֣ל with labour; ʿāmāl לִבָּ֑ם their heart lēb כָּ֝שְׁל֗וּ they fell down, kāšal וְאֵ֣ין and none ʾayin עֹזֵֽר׃ to help. ʿāzar

וַיִּזְעֲק֣וּ Then they cried zāʿaq אֶל unto ʾēl יְ֭הוָה the Lord yĕhōwâ בַּצַּ֣ר in their trouble, ṣar לָהֶ֑ם hēm מִ֝מְּצֻֽקוֹתֵיהֶ֗ם them out of their distresses. mĕṣûqâ יוֹשִׁיעֵֽם׃ he saved yāšaʿ

יֽ֭וֹצִיאֵם He brought them out yāṣāʾ מֵחֹ֣שֶׁךְ of darkness ḥōšek וְצַלְמָ֑וֶת and the shadow of death, ṣalmāwet וּמוֹסְר֖וֹתֵיהֶ֣ם their bands in môsēr יְנַתֵּֽק׃ and brake sunder. nātaq

יוֹד֣וּ Oh that would praise yādâ לַיהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ חַסְדּ֑וֹ his goodness, ḥēsēd וְ֝נִפְלְאוֹתָ֗יו and his wonderful works pālāʾ לִבְנֵ֥י to the children bēn אָדָֽם׃ of men! ʾādām

כִּֽי For kî שִׁ֭בַּר he hath broken šābar דַּלְת֣וֹת the gates delet נְחֹ֑שֶׁת of brass, nĕḥōšet וּבְרִיחֵ֖י the bars bĕrîaḥ בַרְזֶ֣ל of iron in barzel גִּדֵּֽעַ׃ and cut sunder. gādaʿ

אֱ֭וִלִים Fools ʾĕwîl מִדֶּ֣רֶךְ because derek פִּשְׁעָ֑ם of their transgression, pešaʿ וּֽ֝מֵעֲוֹ֥נֹתֵיהֶ֗ם and because of their iniquities, ʿāwōn יִתְעַנּֽוּ׃ are afflicted. ʿānâ

כָּל all manner kōl אֹ֭כֶל of meat; ʾōkel תְּתַעֵ֣ב abhorreth taʿāb נַפְשָׁ֑ם Their soul nepeš וַ֝יַּגִּ֗יעוּ and they draw near nāgaʿ עַד unto ʿad שַׁ֥עֲרֵי the gates šaʿar מָֽוֶת׃ of death. māwet

וַיִּזְעֲק֣וּ Then they cry zāʿaq אֶל unto ʾēl יְ֭הוָה the Lord yĕhōwâ בַּצַּ֣ר in their trouble, ṣar לָהֶ֑ם hēm מִ֝מְּצֻֽקוֹתֵיהֶ֗ם them out of their distresses. mĕṣûqâ יוֹשִׁיעֵֽם׃ he saveth yāšaʿ

יִשְׁלַ֣ח He sent šālaḥ דְּ֭בָרוֹ his word, dābār וְיִרְפָּאֵ֑ם and healed rāpāʾ וִֽ֝ימַלֵּ֗ט them, and delivered mālaṭ מִשְּׁחִיתוֹתָֽם׃ from their destructions. šĕḥît

יוֹד֣וּ Oh that would praise yādâ לַיהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ חַסְדּ֑וֹ his goodness, ḥēsēd וְ֝נִפְלְאוֹתָ֗יו and his wonderful works pālāʾ לִבְנֵ֥י to the children bēn אָדָֽם׃ of men! ʾādām

וְ֭יִזְבְּחוּ And let them sacrifice zābaḥ זִבְחֵ֣י the sacrifices zebaḥ תוֹדָ֑ה of thanksgiving, tôdâ וִֽיסַפְּר֖וּ and declare sāpar מַעֲשָׂ֣יו his works maʿăśe בְּרִנָּֽה׃ with rejoicing. rinnâ

יוֹרְדֵ֣י They that go down yārad הַ֭יָּם to the sea yām בָּאֳנִיּ֑וֹת in ships, ʾŏniyyâ עֹשֵׂ֥י that do ʿāśâ מְ֝לָאכָ֗ה business mĕlāʾkâ בְּמַ֣יִם waters; mayim רַבִּֽים׃ in great rab

הֵ֣מָּה These hēm רָ֭אוּ see rāʾâ מַעֲשֵׂ֣י the works maʿăśe יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְ֝נִפְלְאוֹתָ֗יו and his wonders pālāʾ בִּמְצוּלָֽה׃ in the deep. mĕṣôlâ

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר For he commandeth, ʾāmar וַֽ֭יַּעֲמֵד and raiseth ʿāmad ר֣וּחַ wind, rûaḥ סְעָרָ֑ה the stormy saʿar וַתְּרוֹמֵ֥ם which lifteth up rûm גַּלָּֽיו׃ the waves thereof. gal

יַעֲל֣וּ They mount up ʿālâ שָׁ֭מַיִם to the heaven, šāmayim יֵרְד֣וּ they go down yārad תְהוֹמ֑וֹת again to the depths: tĕhôm נַ֝פְשָׁ֗ם their soul nepeš בְּרָעָ֥ה because of trouble. raʿ תִתְמוֹגָֽג׃ is melted mûg

יָח֣וֹגּוּ They reel to and fro, ḥāgag וְ֭יָנוּעוּ and stagger nûaʿ כַּשִּׁכּ֑וֹר like a drunken man, šikkôr וְכָל kōl חָ֝כְמָתָ֗ם and are at their wits' ḥokmâ תִּתְבַּלָּֽע׃ end. bālaʿ

וַיִּצְעֲק֣וּ Then they cry ṣāʿaq אֶל unto ʾēl יְ֭הוָה the Lord yĕhōwâ בַּצַּ֣ר in their trouble, ṣar לָהֶ֑ם hēm וּֽ֝מִמְּצֽוּקֹתֵיהֶ֗ם of their distresses. mĕṣûqâ יוֹצִיאֵֽם׃ and he bringeth them out yāṣāʾ

יָקֵ֣ם He maketh qûm סְ֭עָרָה the storm saʿar לִדְמָמָ֑ה a calm, dĕmāmâ וַ֝יֶּחֱשׁ֗וּ thereof are still. ḥāšâ גַּלֵּיהֶֽם׃ so that the waves gal

וַיִּשְׂמְח֥וּ Then are they glad śāmaḥ כִֽי because kî יִשְׁתֹּ֑קוּ they be quiet; šātaq וַ֝יַּנְחֵ֗ם so he bringeth nāḥâ אֶל them unto ʾēl מְח֥וֹז haven. māḥôz חֶפְצָֽם׃ their desired ḥēpeṣ

יוֹד֣וּ Oh that would praise yādâ לַיהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ חַסְדּ֑וֹ his goodness, ḥēsēd וְ֝נִפְלְאוֹתָ֗יו and his wonderful works pālāʾ לִבְנֵ֥י to the children bēn אָדָֽם׃ of men! ʾādām

וִֽ֭ירוֹמְמוּהוּ Let them exalt rûm בִּקְהַל him also in the congregation qāhāl עָ֑ם of the people, ʿam וּבְמוֹשַׁ֖ב him in the assembly môšāb זְקֵנִ֣ים of the elders. zāqēn יְהַלְלֽוּהוּ׃ and praise hālal

יָשֵׂ֣ם He turneth śûm נְהָר֣וֹת rivers nāhār לְמִדְבָּ֑ר into a wilderness, midbār וּמֹצָ֥אֵי môṣāʾ מַ֝֗יִם and the watersprings mayim לְצִמָּאֽוֹן׃ into dry ground; ṣimmāʾôn

אֶ֣רֶץ land ʾereṣ פְּ֭רִי A fruitful pĕrî לִמְלֵחָ֑ה into barrenness, mĕlēḥâ מֵ֝רָעַ֗ת for the wickedness raʿ י֣וֹשְׁבֵי of them that dwell therein. yāšab בָֽהּ׃

יָשֵׂ֣ם He turneth śûm מִ֭דְבָּר the wilderness midbār לַֽאֲגַם into a standing ʾăgam מַ֑יִם water, mayim וְאֶ֥רֶץ ground ʾereṣ צִ֝יָּ֗ה and dry ṣiyyâ לְמֹצָ֥אֵי môṣāʾ מָֽיִם׃ into watersprings. mayim

וַיּ֣וֹשֶׁב to dwell, yāšab שָׁ֣ם And there šām רְעֵבִ֑ים he maketh the hungry rāʿēb וַ֝יְכוֹנְנ֗וּ that they may prepare kûn עִ֣יר a city ʿîr מוֹשָֽׁב׃ for habitation; môšāb

וַיִּזְרְע֣וּ And sow zāraʿ שָׂ֭דוֹת the fields, śāde וַיִּטְּע֣וּ and plant nāṭaʿ כְרָמִ֑ים vineyards, kerem וַ֝יַּעֲשׂ֗וּ which may yield ʿāśâ פְּרִ֣י fruits pĕrî תְבֽוּאָה׃ of increase. tĕbûʾâ

וַיְבָרֲכֵ֣ם He blesseth bārak וַיִּרְבּ֣וּ them also, so that they are multiplied rābâ מְאֹ֑ד greatly; mĕʾōd וּ֝בְהֶמְתָּ֗ם their cattle bĕhēmâ לֹ֣א and suffereth not lōʾ יַמְעִֽיט׃ to decrease. māʿaṭ

וַיִּמְעֲט֥וּ Again, they are minished māʿaṭ וַיָּשֹׁ֑חוּ and brought low šāḥaḥ מֵעֹ֖צֶר through oppression, ʿōṣer רָעָ֣ה affliction, raʿ וְיָגֽוֹן׃ and sorrow. yāgôn

שֹׁפֵ֣ךְ He poureth šāpak בּ֭וּז contempt bûz עַל upon ʿal נְדִיבִ֑ים princes, nādîb וַ֝יַּתְעֵ֗ם and causeth them to wander tāʿâ בְּתֹ֣הוּ in the wilderness, tōhû לֹא no lōʾ דָֽרֶךְ׃ way. derek

וַיְשַׂגֵּ֣ב on high śāgab אֶבְי֣וֹן Yet setteth he the poor ʾebyôn מֵע֑וֹנִי from affliction, ʿŏnî וַיָּ֥שֶׂם and maketh śûm כַּ֝צֹּ֗אן like a flock. ṣōn מִשְׁפָּחֽוֹת׃ families mišpāḥâ

יִרְא֣וּ shall see rāʾâ יְשָׁרִ֣ים The righteous yāšār וְיִשְׂמָ֑חוּ and rejoice: śāmaḥ וְכָל and all kōl עַ֝וְלָ֗ה iniquity ʿewel קָ֣פְצָה shall stop qāpaṣ פִּֽיהָ׃ her mouth. pe

מִי Whoso mî חָכָ֥ם wise, ḥākām וְיִשְׁמָר and will observe šāmar אֵ֑לֶּה these ʾēlle וְ֝יִתְבּֽוֹנְנ֗וּ even they shall understand bîn חַֽסְדֵ֥י the lovingkindness ḥēsēd יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ
