1 என் மகனே, என் ஞானத்தைக் கவனித்து, என் புத்திக்கு உன் செவியைச் சாய்; My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

2 அப்பொழுது நீ விவேகத்தைப்பேணிக்கொள்வாய், உன் உதடுகள் அறிவைக் காத்துக்கொள்ளும். That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

3 பரஸ்திரீயின் உதடுகள் தேன்கூடுபோல் ஒழுகும்; அவள் வாய் எண்ணெயிலும் மிருதுவாயிருக்கும். For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

4 அவள் செய்கையின் முடிவோ எட்டியைப்போலக் கசப்பும், இருபுறமுங் கருக்குள்ள பட்டயம்போல் கூர்மையுமாயிருக்கும். But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

5 அவள் காலடிகள் மரணத்துக்கு இறங்கும்; அவள் நடைகள் பாதாளத்தைப் பற்றிப்போகும். Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

6 நீ ஜீவமார்க்கத்தைச் சிந்தித்துக்கொள்ளாதபடிக்கு, அவளுடைய நடைகள் மாறிமாறி விகாரப்படும்; அவைகளை அறியமுடியாது. Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

7 ஆதலால் பிள்ளைகளே இப்பொழுது எனக்குச் செவிகொடுங்கள்; என் வாயின் வசனங்களை விட்டு நீங்காதிருங்கள். Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

8 உன் வழியை அவளுக்குத் தூரப்படுத்து; அவளுடைய வீட்டின் வாசலைக்கிட்டிச் சேராதே. Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

9 சேர்ந்தால் உன் மேன்மையை அந்நியர்களுக்கும், உன் ஆயுசின் காலத்தைக் கொடூரருக்கும் கொடுத்துவிடுவாய். Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

10 அந்நியர் உன் செல்வத்தினால் திருப்தியடைவார்கள்; உன் பிரயாசத்தின்பலன் புறத்தியாருடைய வீட்டில் சேரும். Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

11 முடிவிலே உன் மாம்சமும் உன் சரீரமும் உருவழியும்போது நீ துக்கித்து: And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

12 ஐயோ, போதகத்தை நான் வெறுத்தேனே, கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை என் மனம் அலட்சியம்பண்ணினதே! And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

13 என் போதகரின் சொல்லை நான் கேளாமலும், எனக்கு உபதேசம்பண்ணினவர்களுக்கு என் செவியைச் சாயாமலும் போனேனே! And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

14 சபைக்குள்ளும் சங்கத்துக்குள்ளும் கொஞ்சங்குறைய எல்லாத் தீமைக்குமுள்ளானேனே! என்று முறையிடுவாய். I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

15 உன் கிணற்றிலுள்ள தண்ணீரையும், உன் துரவில் ஊறுகிற ஜலத்தையும் பானம்பண்ணு. Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

16 உன் ஊற்றுகள் வெளியிலும் உன் வாய்க்கால்கள் வீதிகளிலும் பாய்வதாக. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

17 அவைகள் அந்நியருக்கும் உரியவைகளாயிராமல், உனக்கே உரியவைகளாயிருப்பதாக. Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.

18 உன் ஊற்றுக்கண் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படுவதாக; உன் இளவயதின் மனைவியோடே மகிழ்ந்திரு. Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

19 அவளே நேசிக்கப்படத்தக்க பெண்மானும், அழகான வரையாடும் போலிருப்பாளாக; அவளுடைய ஸ்தனங்களே எப்பொழுதும் உன்னைத் திருப்திசெய்வதாக; அவளுடைய நேசத்தால் நீ எப்பொழுதும் மயங்கியிருப்பாயாக. Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

20 என் மகனே, நீ பரஸ்திரீயின்மேல் மயங்கித் திரிந்து, அந்நிய ஸ்திரீயின் மார்பைத் தழுவவேண்டியதென்ன? And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

21 மனுஷனுடைய வழிகள் கர்த்தரின் கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக இருக்கிறது; அவனுடைய வழிகளெல்லாவற்றையும் அவர் சீர்தூக்கிப்பார்க்கிறார். For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

22 துன்மார்க்கனை அவனுடைய அக்கிரமங்களே பிடித்துக்கொள்ளும்; தன் பாவக்கயிறுகளால் கட்டப்படுவான். His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

1 En makanae, en njaanaththaik kavaniththu, en puththikku un seviyaich saay; My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

2 Appoluthu nee vivaekaththaippaennikkolvaay, un uthadukal arivaik kaaththukkollum. That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

3 Parasthireeyin uthadukal thaenkoodupol olukum; aval vaay ennnneyilum miruthuvaayirukkum. For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

4 Aval seykaiyin mutivo ettiyaippolak kasappum, irupuramung karukkulla pattayampol koormaiyumaayirukkum. But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

5 Aval kaalatikal maranaththukku irangum; aval nataikal paathaalaththaip pattippokum. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

6 Nee jeevamaarkkaththaich sinthiththukkollaathapatikku, avalutaiya nataikal maarimaari vikaarappadum; avaikalai ariyamutiyaathu. Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

7 Aathalaal pillaikalae ippoluthu enakkuch sevikodungal; en vaayin vasanangalai vittu neengaathirungal. Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

8 Un valiyai avalukkuth thoorappaduththu; avalutaiya veettin vaasalaikkittich seraathae. Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

9 Sernthaal un maenmaiyai anniyarkalukkum, un aayusin kaalaththaik kotoorarukkum koduththuviduvaay. Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

10 Anniyar un selvaththinaal thirupthiyataivaarkal; un pirayaasaththinpalan puraththiyaarutaiya veettil serum. Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

11 Mutivilae un maamsamum un sareeramum uruvaliyumpothu nee thukkiththu: And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

12 Aiyo, pothakaththai naan veraுththaenae, katinthukolluthalai en manam alatchiyampannnninathae! And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

13 En pothakarin sollai naan kaelaamalum, enakku upathaesampannnninavarkalukku en seviyaich saayaamalum ponaenae! And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

14 Sabaikkullum sangaththukkullum konjanguraiya ellaath theemaikkumullaanaenae! Entu muraiyiduvaay. I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

15 Un kinattilulla thannnneeraiyum, un thuravil ooraுkira jalaththaiyum paanampannnu. Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

16 Un oottaுkal veliyilum un vaaykkaalkal veethikalilum paayvathaaka. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

17 Avaikal anniyarukkum uriyavaikalaayiraamal, unakkae uriyavaikalaayiruppathaaka. Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.

18 Un oottaுkkann aaseervathikkappaduvathaaka; un ilavayathin manaiviyotae makilnthiru. Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

19 Avalae naesikkappadaththakka pennmaanum, alakaana varaiyaadum poliruppaalaaka; avalutaiya sthanangalae eppoluthum unnaith thirupthiseyvathaaka; avalutaiya naesaththaal nee eppoluthum mayangiyiruppaayaaka. Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

20 En makanae, nee parasthireeyinmael mayangith thirinthu, anniya sthireeyin maarpaith thaluvavaenntiyathenna? And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

21 Manushanutaiya valikal karththarin kannkalukku munpaaka irukkirathu; avanutaiya valikalellaavattaைyum avar seerthookkippaarkkiraar. For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

22 Thunmaarkkanai avanutaiya akkiramangalae pitiththukkollum; than paavakkayiraுkalaal kattappaduvaan. His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
