  3. בְּֽפִי In the mouth pe אֱ֭וִיל of the foolish ʾĕwîl חֹ֣טֶר a rod ḥōṭēr גַּאֲוָ֑ה of pride: gaʾăwâ וְשִׂפְתֵ֥י but the lips śāpâ חֲ֝כָמִ֗ים of the wise ḥākām תִּשְׁמוּרֵֽם׃ shall preserve them. šāmar
  4. בְּאֵ֣ין Where no ʾayin אֲ֭לָפִים oxen ʾelep אֵב֣וּס the crib ʾēbûs בָּ֑ר clean: bar וְרָב but much rōb תְּ֝בוּא֗וֹת increase tĕbûʾâ בְּכֹ֣חַ by the strength kōaḥ שֽׁוֹר׃ of the ox. šôr
  5. עֵ֣ד witness ʿēd אֱ֭מוּנִים A faithful ʾēmûn לֹ֣א will not lōʾ יְכַזֵּ֑ב lies. kāzab וְיָפִ֥יחַ will utter pûaḥ כְּ֝זָבִ֗ים lie: kāzāb עֵ֣ד witness ʿēd שָֽׁקֶר׃ but a false šeqer
  6. בִּקֶּשׁ seeketh bāqaš לֵ֣ץ A scorner lûṣ חָכְמָ֣ה wisdom, ḥokmâ וָאָ֑יִן and not: ʾayin וְדַ֖עַת but knowledge daʿat לְנָב֣וֹן unto him that understandeth. bîn נָקָֽל׃ easy qālal
  7. לֵ֣ךְ Go hālak מִ֭נֶּגֶד from the presence neged לְאִ֣ישׁ man, ʾîš כְּסִ֑יל of a foolish kĕsîl וּבַל not bal יָ֝דַ֗עְתָּ when thou perceivest yādaʿ שִׂפְתֵי the lips śāpâ דָֽעַת׃ of knowledge. daʿat
  8. חָכְמַ֣ת The wisdom ḥokmâ עָ֭רוּם of the prudent ʿārûm הָבִ֣ין to understand bîn דַּרְכּ֑וֹ his way: derek וְאִוֶּ֖לֶת but the folly ʾiwwelet כְּסִילִ֣ים of fools kĕsîl מִרְמָֽה׃ deceit. mirmâ
  9. אֱ֭וִלִים Fools ʾĕwîl יָלִ֣יץ make a mock lûṣ אָשָׁ֑ם at sin: ʾāšām וּבֵ֖ין but among bên יְשָׁרִ֣ים the righteous yāšār רָצֽוֹן׃ favour. rāṣôn
  10. לֵ֗ב The heart lēb י֭וֹדֵעַ knoweth yādaʿ מָרַּ֣ת bitterness; morrâ נַפְשׁ֑וֹ his own nepeš וּ֝בְשִׂמְחָת֗וֹ with his joy. śimḥâ לֹא doth not lōʾ יִתְעָ֥רַב intermeddle ʿārab זָֽר׃ and a stranger zûr
  11. בֵּ֣ית The house bayit רְ֭שָׁעִים of the wicked rāšāʿ יִשָּׁמֵ֑ד shall be overthrown: šāmad וְאֹ֖הֶל but the tabernacle ʾōhel יְשָׁרִ֣ים of the upright yāšār יַפְרִֽיחַ׃ shall flourish. pāraḥ
  12. יֵ֤שׁ There is yēš דֶּ֣רֶךְ a way derek יָ֭שָׁר which seemeth right yāšār לִפְנֵי unto pānîm אִ֑ישׁ a man, ʾîš וְ֝אַחֲרִיתָ֗הּ but the end ʾaḥărît דַּרְכֵי thereof the ways derek מָֽוֶת׃ of death. māwet
  13. גַּם Even gam בִּשְׂחֹ֥ק in laughter śĕḥôq יִכְאַב is sorrowful; kāʾab לֵ֑ב the heart lēb וְאַחֲרִיתָ֖הּ and the end ʾaḥărît שִׂמְחָ֣ה of that mirth śimḥâ תוּגָֽה׃ heaviness. tûgâ
  14. מִדְּרָכָ֣יו with his own ways: derek יִ֭שְׂבַּע shall be filled śābaʿ ס֣וּג The backslider sûg לֵ֑ב in heart lēb וּ֝מֵעָלָ֗יו from himself. ʿal אִ֣ישׁ man ʾîš טֽוֹב׃ and a good ṭôb
  15. פֶּ֭תִי The simple pĕtî יַאֲמִ֣ין believeth ʾāman לְכָל every kōl דָּבָ֑ר word: dābār וְ֝עָר֗וּם but the prudent ʿārûm יָבִ֥ין looketh well bîn לַאֲשֻׁרֽוֹ׃ to his going. ʾāšur
  16. חָכָ֣ם A wise ḥākām יָ֭רֵא feareth, yārēʾ וְסָ֣ר and departeth sûr מֵרָ֑ע from evil: raʿ וּ֝כְסִ֗יל but the fool kĕsîl מִתְעַבֵּ֥ר rageth, ʿābar וּבוֹטֵֽחַ׃ and is confident. bāṭaḥ
  17. קְֽצַר soon qāṣēr אַ֭פַּיִם angry ʾap יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה dealeth ʿāśâ אִוֶּ֑לֶת foolishly: ʾiwwelet וְאִ֥ישׁ and a man ʾîš מְ֝זִמּ֗וֹת of wicked devices mĕzimmâ יִשָּׂנֵֽא׃ is hated. śānēʾ
  18. נָחֲל֣וּ inherit nāḥal פְתָאיִ֣ם The simple pĕtî אִוֶּ֑לֶת folly: ʾiwwelet וַֽ֝עֲרוּמִ֗ים but the prudent ʿārûm יַכְתִּ֥רוּ are crowned kātar דָֽעַת׃ with knowledge. daʿat
  19. שַׁח֣וּ bow šāḥaḥ רָ֭עִים The evil raʿ לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm טוֹבִ֑ים the good; ṭôb וּ֝רְשָׁעִ֗ים and the wicked rāšāʿ עַֽל at ʿal שַׁעֲרֵ֥י the gates šaʿar צַדִּֽיק׃ of the righteous. ṣaddîq

  21. בָּז He that despiseth bûz לְרֵעֵ֥הוּ his neighbour rēaʿ חוֹטֵ֑א sinneth: ḥāṭāʾ וּמְחוֹנֵ֖ן but he that hath mercy on ḥānan עֲנָיִ֣ים the poor, ʿānāw אַשְׁרָֽיו׃ happy he. ʾešer
  22. הֲֽלוֹא Do they not lōʾ יִ֭תְעוּ err tāʿâ חֹ֣רְשֵׁי that devise ḥāraš רָ֑ע evil? raʿ וְחֶ֥סֶד but mercy ḥēsēd וֶ֝אֱמֶ֗ת and truth ʾemet חֹ֣רְשֵׁי to them that devise ḥāraš טֽוֹב׃ good. ṭôb
  23. בְּכָל In all kōl עֶ֭צֶב labour ʿeṣeb יִהְיֶ֣ה there is hāyâ מוֹתָ֑ר profit: môtār וּדְבַר but the talk dābār שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם of the lips śāpâ אַךְ only ʾak לְמַחְסֽוֹר׃ to penury. maḥsôr
  24. עֲטֶ֣רֶת The crown ʿăṭārâ חֲכָמִ֣ים of the wise ḥākām עָשְׁרָ֑ם their riches: ʿōšer אִוֶּ֖לֶת the foolishness ʾiwwelet כְּסִילִ֣ים of fools kĕsîl אִוֶּֽלֶת׃ folly. ʾiwwelet
  25. מַצִּ֣יל delivereth nāṣal נְ֭פָשׁוֹת souls: nepeš עֵ֣ד witness ʿēd אֱמֶ֑ת A true ʾemet וְיָפִ֖חַ speaketh pûaḥ כְּזָבִ֣ים lies. kāzāb מִרְמָֽה׃ but a deceitful mirmâ
  26. בְּיִרְאַ֣ת In the fear yirʾâ יְ֭הוָה of the Lord yĕhōwâ מִבְטַח confidence: mibṭāḥ עֹ֑ז strong ʿōz וּ֝לְבָנָ֗יו and his children bēn יִהְיֶ֥ה shall have hāyâ מַחְסֶֽה׃ a place of refuge. maḥăse
  27. יִרְאַ֣ת The fear yirʾâ יְ֭הוָה of the Lord yĕhōwâ מְק֣וֹר a fountain māqôr חַיִּ֑ים of life, ḥay לָ֝ס֗וּר to depart sûr מִמֹּ֥קְשֵׁי from the snares môqēš מָֽוֶת׃ of death. māwet
  28. בְּרָב In the multitude rōb עָ֥ם of people ʿam הַדְרַת honour: hădārâ מֶ֑לֶךְ the king's melek וּבְאֶ֥פֶס but in the want ʾepes לְ֝אֹ֗ם of people lĕʾōm מְחִתַּ֥ת the destruction mĕḥittâ רָזֽוֹן׃ of the prince. rāzôn
  29. אֶ֣רֶךְ slow ʾārēk אַ֭פַּיִם to wrath ʾap רַב of great rab תְּבוּנָ֑ה understanding: tābûn וּקְצַר but hasty qāṣēr ר֝֗וּחַ of spirit rûaḥ מֵרִ֥ים exalteth rûm אִוֶּֽלֶת׃ folly. ʾiwwelet
  30. חַיֵּ֣י the life ḥay בְ֭שָׂרִים of the flesh: bāśār לֵ֣ב heart lēb מַרְפֵּ֑א A sound marpēʾ וּרְקַ֖ב the rottenness rāqāb עֲצָמ֣וֹת of the bones. ʿeṣem קִנְאָֽה׃ but envy qinʾâ
  31. עֹ֣שֵֽׁק He that oppresseth ʿāšaq דָּ֭ל the poor dal חֵרֵ֣ף reproacheth ḥārap עֹשֵׂ֑הוּ his Maker: ʿāśâ וּ֝מְכַבְּד֗וֹ but he that honoureth kābad חֹנֵ֥ן him hath mercy ḥānan אֶבְיֽוֹן׃ on the poor. ʾebyôn
  32. בְּֽ֭רָעָתוֹ in his wickedness: raʿ יִדָּחֶ֣ה is driven away dāḥâ רָשָׁ֑ע The wicked rāšāʿ וְחֹסֶ֖ה hath hope ḥāsâ בְמוֹת֣וֹ in his death. māwet צַדִּֽיק׃ but the righteous ṣaddîq
