וּבְיוֹם֩ day yôm עֶשְׂרִ֨ים Now in the twenty ʿeśrîm וְאַרְבָּעָ֜ה and fourth ʾarbaʿ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ month ḥōdeš הַזֶּ֗ה of this ze נֶֽאֶסְפ֤וּ were assembled ʾāsap בְנֵֽי the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl בְּצ֣וֹם with fasting, ṣôm וּבְשַׂקִּ֔ים and with sackclothes, śaq וַֽאֲדָמָ֖ה and earth ʾădāmâ עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ upon them. ʿal

וַיִּבָּֽדְלוּ֙ separated themselves bādal זֶ֣רַע And the seed zeraʿ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מִכֹּ֖ל from all kōl בְּנֵ֣י strangers, bēn נֵכָ֑ר nēkār וַיַּֽעַמְד֗וּ and stood ʿāmad וַיִּתְוַדּוּ֙ and confessed yādâ עַל ʿal חַטֹּ֣אתֵיהֶ֔ם their sins, ḥaṭṭāʾâ וַעֲוֺנ֖וֹת and the iniquities ʿāwōn אֲבֹֽתֵיהֶֽם׃ of their fathers. ʾāb

וַיָּק֙וּמוּ֙ And they stood up qûm עַל in ʿal עָמְדָ֔ם their place, ʿōmed וַֽיִּקְרְא֗וּ and read qārāʾ בְּסֵ֨פֶר in the book sēper תּוֹרַ֧ת of the law tôrâ יְהוָ֛ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶ֖ם their God ʾĕlōhîm רְבִעִ֣ית fourth part rĕbîʿî הַיּ֑וֹם of the day; yôm וּרְבִעִית֙ and fourth part rĕbîʿî מִתְוַדִּ֣ים they confessed, yādâ וּמִֽשְׁתַּחֲוִ֔ים and worshipped šāḥâ לַֽיהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶֽם׃ their God. ʾĕlōhîm

וַיָּ֜קָם Then stood up qûm עַֽל upon ʿal מַֽעֲלֵ֣ה the stairs, maʿăle הַלְוִיִּ֗ם of the Levites, lēwiyyî יֵשׁ֨וּעַ Jeshua, yēšûaʿ וּבָנִ֜י and Bani, bānî קַדְמִיאֵ֧ל Kadmiel, qadmîʾēl שְׁבַנְיָ֛ה Shebaniah, šĕbanyâ בֻּנִּ֥י Bunni, bunnî שֵׁרֵֽבְיָ֖ה Sherebiah, šērēbĕyâ בָּנִ֣י Bani, bānî כְנָ֑נִי Chenani, kĕnānî וַֽיִּזְעֲקוּ֙ and cried zāʿaq בְּק֣וֹל voice qôl גָּד֔וֹל with a loud gādôl אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶֽם׃ their God. ʾĕlōhîm

וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ said, ʾāmar הַלְוִיִּ֡ם Then the Levites, lēwiyyî יֵשׁ֣וּעַ Jeshua, yēšûaʿ וְ֠קַדְמִיאֵל and Kadmiel, qadmîʾēl בָּנִ֨י Bani, bānî חֲשַׁבְנְיָ֜ה Hashabniah, ḥăšabnĕyâ שֵׁרֵֽבְיָ֤ה Sherebiah, šērēbĕyâ הֽוֹדִיָּה֙ Hodijah, hôdiyyâ שְׁבַנְיָ֣ה Shebaniah, šĕbanyâ פְתַֽחְיָ֔ה Pethahiah, pĕtaḥyâ ק֗וּמוּ Stand up qûm בָּרֲכוּ֙ bless bārak אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם your God ʾĕlōhîm מִן min הָֽעוֹלָ֖ם for ever ʿôlām עַד and ʿad הָֽעוֹלָ֑ם ever: ʿôlām וִיבָֽרְכוּ֙ and blessed bārak שֵׁ֣ם name, šēm כְּבוֹדֶ֔ךָ be thy glorious kābôd וּמְרוֹמַ֥ם which is exalted rûm עַל above ʿal כָּל all kōl בְּרָכָ֖ה blessing bĕrākâ וּתְהִלָּֽה׃ and praise. tĕhillâ

אַתָּה Thou, ʾattâ ה֣וּא thou, hûʾ יְהוָה֮ Lord yĕhōwâ לְבַדֶּךָ֒ alone; bad אַתָּ֣ thou ʾēt עָשִׂ֡יתָ hast made ʿāśâ אֶֽת ʾēt הַשָּׁמַיִם֩ heaven, šāmayim שְׁמֵ֨י the heaven šāmayim הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם of heavens, šāmayim וְכָל with all kōl צְבָאָ֗ם their host, ṣābāʾ הָאָ֜רֶץ the earth, ʾereṣ וְכָל and all kōl אֲשֶׁ֤ר that ʾăšer עָלֶ֙יהָ֙ therein, ʿal הַיַּמִּים֙ the seas, yām וְכָל and all kōl אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בָּהֶ֔ם וְאַתָּ֖ה therein, and thou ʾattâ מְחַיֶּ֣ה preservest ḥāyâ אֶת ʾēt כֻּלָּ֑ם them all; kōl וּצְבָ֥א and the host ṣābāʾ הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם of heaven šāmayim לְךָ֥ מִֽשְׁתַּחֲוִֽים׃ worshippeth thee. šāḥâ

אַתָּה Thou ʾattâ הוּא֙ hûʾ יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים the God, ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁ֤ר who ʾăšer בָּחַ֙רְתָּ֙ didst choose bāḥar בְּאַבְרָ֔ם Abram, ʾabrām וְהֽוֹצֵאת֖וֹ and broughtest him forth yāṣāʾ מֵא֣וּר out of Ur ʾûr כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים of the Chaldees, kaśdî וְשַׂ֥מְתָּ and gavest śûm שְּׁמ֖וֹ him the name šēm אַבְרָהָֽם׃ of Abraham; ʾabrāhām

וּמָצָ֣אתָ And foundest māṣāʾ אֶת ʾēt לְבָבוֹ֮ his heart lēbāb נֶֽאֱמָ֣ן faithful ʾāman לְפָנֶיךָ֒ before pānîm וְכָר֨וֹת thee, and madest kārat עִמּ֜וֹ with ʿim הַבְּרִ֗ית a covenant bĕrît לָתֵ֡ת him to give nātan אֶת ʾēt אֶרֶץ֩ the land ʾereṣ הַכְּנַֽעֲנִ֨י of the Canaanites, kĕnaʿanî הַֽחִתִּ֜י the Hittites, ḥittî הָֽאֱמֹרִ֧י the Amorites, ʾĕmōrî וְהַפְּרִזִּ֛י and the Perizzites, pĕrizzî וְהַיְבוּסִ֥י and the Jebusites, yĕbûsî וְהַגִּרְגָּשִׁ֖י and the Girgashites, girgāšî לָתֵ֣ת to give nātan לְזַרְע֑וֹ to his seed, zeraʿ וַתָּ֙קֶם֙ and hast performed qûm אֶת ʾēt דְּבָרֶ֔יךָ thy words; dābār כִּ֥י for kî צַדִּ֖יק righteous: ṣaddîq אָֽתָּה׃ thou ʾattâ

וַתֵּ֛רֶא And didst see rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt עֳנִ֥י the affliction ʿŏnî אֲבֹתֵ֖ינוּ of our fathers ʾāb בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם in Egypt, miṣrayim וְאֶת ʾēt זַֽעֲקָתָ֥ם their cry zaʿaq שָׁמַ֖עְתָּ and heardest šāmaʿ עַל by ʿal יַם sea; yām סֽוּף׃ the Red sûp

וַ֠תִּתֵּן And shewedst nātan אֹתֹ֨ת signs ʾôt וּמֹֽפְתִ֜ים and wonders môpēt בְּפַרְעֹ֤ה upon Pharaoh, parʿō וּבְכָל and on all kōl עֲבָדָיו֙ his servants, ʿebed וּבְכָל and on all kōl עַ֣ם the people ʿam אַרְצ֔וֹ of his land: ʾereṣ כִּ֣י for kî יָדַ֔עְתָּ thou knewest yādaʿ כִּ֥י that kî הֵזִ֖ידוּ they dealt proudly zûd עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם against ʿal וַתַּֽעַשׂ them. So didst thou get ʿāśâ לְךָ֥ שֵׁ֖ם thee a name, šēm כְּהַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ as this ze

וְהַיָּם֙ the sea yām בָּקַ֣עְתָּ And thou didst divide bāqaʿ לִפְנֵיהֶ֔ם before pānîm וַיַּֽעַבְר֥וּ them, so that they went through ʿābar בְתוֹךְ the midst tāwek הַיָּ֖ם of the sea yām בַּיַּבָּשָׁ֑ה on the dry land; yabbāšâ וְֽאֶת ʾēt רֹ֨דְפֵיהֶ֜ם and their persecutors rādap הִשְׁלַ֧כְתָּ thou threwest šālak בִמְצוֹלֹ֛ת into the deeps, mĕṣôlâ כְּמוֹ as kĕmô אֶ֖בֶן a stone ʾeben בְּמַ֥יִם waters. mayim עַזִּֽים׃ into the mighty ʿaz

וּבְעַמּ֣וּד pillar; ʿammûd עָנָ֔ן by a cloudy ʿānān הִנְחִיתָ֖ם Moreover thou leddest nāḥâ יוֹמָ֑ם them in the day yômām וּבְעַמּ֥וּד by a pillar ʿammûd אֵשׁ֙ of fire, ʾēš לַ֔יְלָה and in the night layil לְהָאִ֣יר to give them light ʾôr לָהֶ֔ם hēm אֶת in ʾēt הַדֶּ֖רֶךְ the way derek אֲשֶׁ֥ר wherein ʾăšer יֵֽלְכוּ they should go. hālak בָֽהּ׃

וְעַ֤ל also upon ʿal הַר mount har סִינַי֙ Sinai, sînay יָרַ֔דְתָּ Thou camest down yārad וְדַבֵּ֥ר and spakest dābar עִמָּהֶ֖ם with ʿim מִשָּׁמָ֑יִם them from heaven, šāmayim וַתִּתֵּ֨ן and gavest nātan לָהֶ֜ם מִשְׁפָּטִ֤ים judgments, mišpāṭ יְשָׁרִים֙ them right yāšār וְתוֹר֣וֹת laws, tôrâ אֱמֶ֔ת and true ʾemet חֻקִּ֥ים statutes ḥōq וּמִצְוֹ֖ת and commandments: miṣwâ טוֹבִֽים׃ good ṭôb

וְאֶת ʾēt שַׁבַּ֥ת sabbath, šabbāt קָדְשְׁךָ֖ unto them thy holy qōdeš הוֹדַ֣עַתָ And madest known yādaʿ לָהֶ֑ם וּמִצְו֤וֹת them precepts, miṣwâ וְחֻקִּים֙ statutes, ḥōq וְתוֹרָ֔ה and laws, tôrâ צִוִּ֣יתָ and commandedst ṣāwâ לָהֶ֔ם בְּיַ֖ד by the hand yād מֹשֶׁ֥ה of Moses mōše עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ thy servant: ʿebed

וְ֠לֶחֶם them bread leḥem מִשָּׁמַ֜יִם from heaven šāmayim נָתַ֤תָּה And gavest nātan לָהֶם֙ לִרְעָבָ֔ם for their hunger, rāʿāb וּמַ֗יִם water mayim מִסֶּ֛לַע for them out of the rock selaʿ הוֹצֵ֥אתָ and broughtest forth yāṣāʾ לָהֶ֖ם לִצְמָאָ֑ם for their thirst, ṣāmāʾ וַתֹּ֣אמֶר and promisedst ʾāmar לָהֶ֗ם לָבוֹא֙ them that they should go in bôʾ לָרֶ֣שֶׁת to possess yāraš אֶת ʾēt הָאָ֔רֶץ the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer נָשָׂ֥אתָ nāśāʾ אֶת ʾēt יָֽדְךָ֖ thou hadst sworn yād לָתֵ֥ת to give them. nātan לָהֶֽם׃

וְהֵ֥ם But they hēm וַֽאֲבֹתֵ֖ינוּ and our fathers ʾāb הֵזִ֑ידוּ dealt proudly, zûd וַיַּקְשׁוּ֙ and hardened qāšâ אֶת ʾēt עָרְפָּ֔ם their necks, ʿōrep וְלֹ֥א not lōʾ שָֽׁמְע֖וּ and hearkened šāmaʿ אֶל to ʾēl מִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ thy commandments, miṣwâ

וַיְמָֽאֲנ֣וּ And refused māʾēn לִשְׁמֹ֗עַ to obey, šāmaʿ וְלֹֽא neither lōʾ זָכְר֤וּ were mindful zākar נִפְלְאֹתֶ֙יךָ֙ of thy wonders pālāʾ אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer עָשִׂ֣יתָ thou didst ʿāśâ עִמָּהֶ֔ם among ʿim וַיַּקְשׁוּ֙ them; but hardened qāšâ אֶת ʾēt עָרְפָּ֔ם their necks, ʿōrep וַיִּתְּנוּ appointed nātan רֹ֛אשׁ a captain rōš לָשׁ֥וּב to return šûb לְעַבְדֻתָ֖ם to their bondage: ʿabdût בְּמִרְיָ֑ם and in their rebellion mĕrî וְאַתָּה֩ but thou ʾattâ אֱל֨וֹהַּ a God ʾĕlôah סְלִיח֜וֹת ready to pardon, sĕlîḥâ חַנּ֧וּן gracious ḥannûn וְרַח֛וּם and merciful, raḥûm אֶֽרֶךְ slow ʾārēk אַפַּ֥יִם to anger, ʾap וְרַב and of great rab וחֶ֖סֶד kindness, ḥēsēd וְלֹ֥א them not. lōʾ עֲזַבְתָּֽם׃ and forsookest ʿāzab

אַ֗ף Yea, ʾap כִּֽי when kî עָשׂ֤וּ they had made ʿāśâ לָהֶם֙ עֵ֣גֶל calf, ʿēgel מַסֵּכָ֔ה them a molten massēkâ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ and said, ʾāmar זֶ֣ה This ze אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer הֶֽעֶלְךָ֖ brought thee up ʿālâ מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם out of Egypt, miṣrayim וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֔וּ and had wrought ʿāśâ נֶֽאָצ֖וֹת provocations; nĕʾāṣâ גְּדֹלֽוֹת׃ great gādôl

וְאַתָּה֙ Yet thou ʾattâ בְּרַֽחֲמֶ֣יךָ mercies raḥam הָֽרַבִּ֔ים in thy manifold rab לֹ֥א them not lōʾ עֲזַבְתָּ֖ם forsookest ʿāzab בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר in the wilderness: midbār אֶת ʾēt עַמּ֣וּד the pillar ʿammûd הֶֽ֠עָנָן of the cloud ʿānān לֹא not lōʾ סָ֨ר departed sûr מֵֽעֲלֵיהֶ֤ם from ʿal בְּיוֹמָם֙ them by day, yômām לְהַנְחֹתָ֣ם to lead nāḥâ בְּהַדֶּ֔רֶךְ them in the way; derek וְאֶת ʾēt עַמּ֨וּד neither the pillar ʿammûd הָאֵ֤שׁ of fire ʾēš בְּלַ֙יְלָה֙ by night, layil לְהָאִ֣יר to shew them light, ʾôr לָהֶ֔ם וְאֶת ʾēt הַדֶּ֖רֶךְ and the way derek אֲשֶׁ֥ר wherein ʾăšer יֵֽלְכוּ they should go. hālak בָֽהּ׃

וְרֽוּחֲךָ֙ spirit rûaḥ הַטּוֹבָ֔ה also thy good ṭôb נָתַ֖תָּ Thou gavest nātan לְהַשְׂכִּילָ֑ם to instruct śākal וּמַנְךָ֙ thy manna mān לֹֽא not lōʾ מָנַ֣עְתָּ them, and withheldest mānaʿ מִפִּיהֶ֔ם from their mouth, pe וּמַ֛יִם them water mayim נָתַ֥תָּה and gavest nātan לָהֶ֖ם לִצְמָאָֽם׃ for their thirst. ṣāmāʾ

וְאַרְבָּעִ֥ים Yea, forty ʾarbāʿîm שָׁנָ֛ה years šāne כִּלְכַּלְתָּ֥ם didst thou sustain kûl בַּמִּדְבָּ֖ר them in the wilderness, midbār לֹ֣א nothing; lōʾ חָסֵ֑רוּ they lacked ḥāsēr שַׂלְמֹֽתֵיהֶם֙ their clothes śalmâ לֹ֣א lōʾ בָל֔וּ waxed not old, bālâ וְרַגְלֵיהֶ֖ם and their feet regel לֹ֥א not. lōʾ בָצֵֽקוּ׃ swelled bāṣēq

וַתִּתֵּ֨ן Moreover thou gavest nātan לָהֶ֤ם מַמְלָכוֹת֙ them kingdoms mamlākâ וַֽעֲמָמִ֔ים and nations, ʿam וַֽתַּחְלְקֵ֖ם and didst divide ḥālaq לְפֵאָ֑ה them into corners: pēʾâ וַיִּֽירְשׁ֞וּ so they possessed yāraš אֶת ʾēt אֶ֣רֶץ the land ʾereṣ סִיח֗וֹן of Sihon, sîḥôn וְאֶת ʾēt אֶ֙רֶץ֙ and the land ʾereṣ מֶ֣לֶךְ of the king melek חֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן of Heshbon, ḥešbôn וְאֶת ʾēt אֶ֖רֶץ and the land ʾereṣ ע֥וֹג of Og ʿôg מֶֽלֶךְ king melek הַבָּשָֽׁן׃ of Bashan. bāšān

וּבְנֵיהֶ֣ם Their children bēn הִרְבִּ֔יתָ also multipliedst rābâ כְּכֹֽכְבֵ֖י thou as the stars kôkāb הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם of heaven, šāmayim וַתְּבִיאֵם֙ and broughtest bôʾ אֶל them into ʾēl הָאָ֔רֶץ the land, ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁר concerning which ʾăšer אָמַ֥רְתָּ thou hadst promised ʾāmar לַאֲבֹֽתֵיהֶ֖ם to their fathers, ʾāb לָב֥וֹא that they should go in bôʾ לָרָֽשֶׁת׃ to possess yāraš

וַיָּבֹ֤אוּ went in bôʾ הַבָּנִים֙ So the children bēn וַיִּֽירְשׁ֣וּ and possessed yāraš אֶת ʾēt הָאָ֔רֶץ the land, ʾereṣ וַתַּכְנַ֨ע and thou subduedst kānaʿ לִפְנֵיהֶ֜ם before pānîm אֶת them ʾēt יֹֽשְׁבֵ֤י the inhabitants yāšab הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ of the land, ʾereṣ הַכְּנַ֣עֲנִ֔ים the Canaanites, kĕnaʿanî וַֽתִּתְּנֵ֖ם and gavest nātan בְּיָדָ֑ם them into their hands, yād וְאֶת ʾēt מַלְכֵיהֶם֙ with their kings, melek וְאֶת ʾēt עַֽמְמֵ֣י and the people ʿam הָאָ֔רֶץ of the land, ʾereṣ לַֽעֲשׂ֥וֹת that they might do ʿāśâ בָּהֶ֖ם כִּרְצוֹנָֽם׃ with them as they would. rāṣôn

וַֽיִּלְכְּד֞וּ And they took lākad עָרִ֣ים cities, ʿîr בְּצֻרוֹת֮ strong bāṣar וַֽאֲדָמָ֣ה land, ʾădāmâ שְׁמֵנָה֒ and a fat šāmēn וַיִּֽירְשׁ֡וּ and possessed yāraš בָּתִּ֣ים houses bayit מְלֵֽאִים full mālēʾ כָּל of all kōl ט֠וּב goods, ṭûb בֹּר֨וֹת wells bôr חֲצוּבִ֜ים digged, ḥāṣab כְּרָמִ֧ים vineyards, kerem וְזֵיתִ֛ים and oliveyards, zayit וְעֵ֥ץ trees ʿēṣ מַֽאֲכָ֖ל and fruit maʾăkāl לָרֹ֑ב in abundance: rōb וַיֹּֽאכְל֤וּ so they did eat, ʾākal וַֽיִּשְׂבְּעוּ֙ and were filled, śābaʿ וַיַּשְׁמִ֔ינוּ and became fat, šāman וַיִּֽתְעַדְּנ֖וּ and delighted themselves ʿādan בְּטֽוּבְךָ֥ goodness. ṭûb הַגָּדֽוֹל׃ in thy great gādôl

וַיַּמְר֨וּ Nevertheless they were disobedient, mārâ וַֽיִּמְרְד֜וּ and rebelled mārad בָּ֗ךְ וַיַּשְׁלִ֤כוּ against thee, and cast šālak אֶת ʾēt תּוֹרָֽתְךָ֙ thy law tôrâ אַֽחֲרֵ֣י behind ʾaḥar גַוָּ֔ם their backs, gǎw וְאֶת ʾēt נְבִיאֶ֣יךָ thy prophets nābîʾ הָרָ֔גוּ and slew hārag אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer הֵעִ֥ידוּ testified ʿûd בָ֖ם לַֽהֲשִׁיבָ֣ם against them to turn šûb אֵלֶ֑יךָ them to ʾēl וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֔וּ thee, and they wrought ʿāśâ נֶֽאָצ֖וֹת provocations. nĕʾāṣâ גְּדוֹלֹֽת׃ great gādôl

וַֽתִּתְּנֵם֙ Therefore thou deliveredst nātan בְּיַ֣ד them into the hand yād צָֽרֵיהֶ֔ם of their enemies, ṣar וַיָּצֵ֖רוּ who vexed ṣārar לָהֶ֑ם וּבְעֵ֤ת them: and in the time ʿēt צָֽרָתָם֙ of their trouble, ṣārâ יִצְעֲק֣וּ when they cried ṣāʿaq אֵלֶ֔יךָ unto ʾēl וְאַתָּה֙ thee, thou ʾattâ מִשָּׁמַ֣יִם from heaven; šāmayim תִּשְׁמָ֔ע heardest šāmaʿ וּֽכְרַחֲמֶ֣יךָ mercies raḥam הָֽרַבִּ֗ים and according to thy manifold rab תִּתֵּ֤ן thou gavest nātan לָהֶם֙ מֽוֹשִׁיעִ֔ים them saviours, yāšaʿ וְיֽוֹשִׁיע֖וּם who saved yāšaʿ מִיַּ֥ד them out of the hand yād צָֽרֵיהֶֽם׃ of their enemies. ṣar

וּכְנ֣וֹחַ But after they had rest, nûaḥ לָהֶ֔ם יָשׁ֕וּבוּ again šûb לַֽעֲשׂ֥וֹת they did ʿāśâ רַ֖ע evil raʿ לְפָנֶ֑יךָ before pānîm וַתַּֽעַזְבֵ֞ם thee: therefore leftest ʿāzab בְּיַ֤ד thou them in the hand yād אֹֽיְבֵיהֶם֙ of their enemies, ʾōyēb וַיִּרְדּ֣וּ so that they had the dominion rādâ בָהֶ֔ם וַיָּשׁ֙וּבוּ֙ over them: yet when they returned, šûb וַיִּזְעָק֔וּךָ and cried zāʿaq וְאַתָּ֞ה unto thee, thou ʾattâ מִשָּׁמַ֧יִם from heaven; šāmayim תִּשְׁמַ֛ע heardest šāmaʿ וְתַצִּילֵ֥ם didst thou deliver nāṣal כְּֽרַחֲמֶ֖יךָ them according to thy mercies; raḥam רַבּ֥וֹת and many rab עִתִּֽים׃ times ʿēt

וַתָּ֨עַד And testifiedst ʿûd בָּהֶ֜ם לַֽהֲשִׁיבָ֣ם against them, that thou mightest bring them again šûb אֶל unto ʾēl תּֽוֹרָתֶ֗ךָ thy law: tôrâ וְהֵ֨מָּה yet they hēm הֵזִ֜ידוּ dealt proudly, zûd וְלֹֽא not lōʾ שָׁמְע֤וּ and hearkened šāmaʿ לְמִצְוֹתֶ֙יךָ֙ unto thy commandments, miṣwâ וּבְמִשְׁפָּטֶ֣יךָ against thy judgments, mišpāṭ חָֽטְאוּ but sinned ḥāṭāʾ בָ֔ם אֲשֶׁר (which ʾăšer יַֽעֲשֶׂ֥ה do, ʿāśâ אָדָ֖ם if a man ʾādām וְחָיָ֣ה he shall live ḥāyâ בָהֶ֑ם וַיִּתְּנ֤וּ in them;) and withdrew nātan כָתֵף֙ the shoulder, kātēp סוֹרֶ֔רֶת sārar וְעָרְפָּ֥ם their neck, ʿōrep הִקְשׁ֖וּ and hardened qāšâ וְלֹ֥א and would not lōʾ שָׁמֵֽעוּ׃ hear. šāmaʿ

וַתִּמְשֹׁ֤ךְ didst thou forbear māšak עֲלֵיהֶם֙ ʿal שָׁנִ֣ים years šāne רַבּ֔וֹת Yet many rab וַתָּ֨עַד them, and testifiedst ʿûd בָּ֧ם בְּרֽוּחֲךָ֛ against them by thy spirit rûaḥ בְּיַד in yād נְבִיאֶ֖יךָ thy prophets: nābîʾ וְלֹ֣א yet would they not lōʾ הֶֽאֱזִ֑ינוּ give ear: ʾāzan וַֽתִּתְּנֵ֔ם therefore gavest nātan בְּיַ֖ד thou them into the hand yād עַמֵּ֥י of the people ʿam הָֽאֲרָצֹֽת׃ of the lands. ʾereṣ

וּֽבְרַחֲמֶ֧יךָ mercies' raḥam הָֽרַבִּ֛ים Nevertheless for thy great rab לֹֽא not lōʾ עֲשִׂיתָ֥ם sake thou didst ʿāśâ כָּלָ֖ה utterly consume kālâ וְלֹ֣א them, nor lōʾ עֲזַבְתָּ֑ם forsake ʿāzab כִּ֛י them; for kî אֵֽל God. ʾēl חַנּ֥וּן a gracious ḥannûn וְרַח֖וּם and merciful raḥûm אָֽתָּה׃ thou ʾattâ

וְעַתָּ֣ה Now ʿattâ אֱ֠לֹהֵינוּ therefore, our God, ʾĕlōhîm הָאֵ֨ל God, ʾēl הַגָּד֜וֹל the great, gādôl הַגִּבּ֣וֹר the mighty, gibbôr וְהַנּוֹרָא֮ and the terrible yārēʾ שׁוֹמֵ֣ר who keepest šāmar הַבְּרִ֣ית covenant bĕrît וְהַחֶסֶד֒ and mercy, ḥēsēd אַל let not ʾal יִמְעַ֣ט seem little māʿaṭ לְפָנֶ֡יךָ before pānîm אֵ֣ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַתְּלָאָ֣ה the trouble tĕlāʾâ אֲֽשֶׁר thee, that ʾăšer מְ֠צָאַתְנוּ hath come upon māṣāʾ לִמְלָכֵ֨ינוּ us, on our kings, melek לְשָׂרֵ֧ינוּ on our princes, śar וּלְכֹֽהֲנֵ֛ינוּ and on our priests, kōhēn וְלִנְבִיאֵ֥נוּ and on our prophets, nābîʾ וְלַֽאֲבֹתֵ֖ינוּ and on our fathers, ʾāb וּלְכָל and on all kōl עַמֶּ֑ךָ thy people, ʿam מִימֵי֙ since the time yôm מַלְכֵ֣י of the kings melek אַשּׁ֔וּר of Assyria ʾaššûr עַ֖ד unto ʿad הַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וְאֶת ʾēt מְלָכֵ֤ינוּ Neither have our kings, melek שָׂרֵ֙ינוּ֙ our princes, śar כֹּֽהֲנֵ֣ינוּ our priests, kōhēn וַֽאֲבֹתֵ֔ינוּ our fathers, ʾāb לֹ֥א nor lōʾ עָשׂ֖וּ kept ʿāśâ תּֽוֹרָתֶ֑ךָ thy law, tôrâ וְלֹ֤א nor lōʾ הִקְשִׁ֙יבוּ֙ hearkened qāšab אֶל unto ʾēl מִצְוֹתֶ֔יךָ thy commandments miṣwâ וּלְעֵ֣דְוֹתֶ֔יךָ and thy testimonies, ʿēdût אֲשֶׁ֥ר wherewith ʾăšer הַֽעִידֹ֖תָ thou didst testify against them. ʿûd בָּהֶֽם׃

וְהֵ֣ם For they hēm בְּמַלְכוּתָם֩ thee in their kingdom, malkût וּבְטֽוּבְךָ֙ goodness ṭûb הָרָ֜ב and in thy great rab אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer נָתַ֣תָּ thou gavest nātan לָהֶ֗ם וּבְאֶ֨רֶץ land ʾereṣ הָֽרְחָבָ֧ה them, and in the large rāḥāb וְהַשְּׁמֵנָ֛ה and fat šāmēn אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer נָתַ֥תָּ thou gavest nātan לִפְנֵיהֶ֖ם before pānîm לֹ֣א have not lōʾ עֲבָד֑וּךָ served ʿābad וְֽלֹא them, neither lōʾ שָׁ֔בוּ turned šûb מִמַּֽעַלְלֵיהֶ֖ם works. maʿălāl הָֽרָעִֽים׃ they from their wicked raʿ

הִנֵּ֛ה Behold, hinnē אֲנַ֥חְנוּ we ʾănaḥnû הַיּ֖וֹם this day, yôm עֲבָדִ֑ים servants ʿebed וְהָאָ֜רֶץ and the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer נָתַ֣תָּה thou gavest nātan לַֽאֲבֹתֵ֗ינוּ unto our fathers ʾāb לֶֽאֱכֹ֤ל to eat ʾākal אֶת ʾēt פִּרְיָהּ֙ the fruit pĕrî וְאֶת ʾēt טוּבָ֔הּ thereof and the good ṭûb הִנֵּ֛ה thereof, behold, hinnē אֲנַ֥חְנוּ we ʾănaḥnû עֲבָדִ֖ים servants ʿebed עָלֶֽיהָ׃ in it: ʿal

וּתְבֽוּאָתָ֣הּ increase tĕbûʾâ מַרְבָּ֗ה And it yieldeth much rābâ לַמְּלָכִ֛ים unto the kings melek אֲשֶׁר whom ʾăšer נָתַ֥תָּה thou hast set nātan עָלֵ֖ינוּ over ʿal בְּחַטֹּאותֵ֑ינוּ us because of our sins: ḥaṭṭāʾâ וְעַ֣ל over ʿal גְּ֠וִיֹּתֵינוּ our bodies, gĕwiyyâ מֹֽשְׁלִ֤ים also they have dominion māšal וּבִבְהֶמְתֵּ֙נוּ֙ and over our cattle, bĕhēmâ כִּרְצוֹנָ֔ם at their pleasure, rāṣôn וּבְצָרָ֥ה distress. ṣārâ גְדוֹלָ֖ה in great gādôl אֲנָֽחְנוּ׃ and we ʾănaḥnû

וּבְכָל And because of all kōl זֹ֕את this zōt אֲנַ֛חְנוּ we ʾănaḥnû כֹּֽרְתִ֥ים make kārat אֲמָנָ֖ה a sure ʾămānâ וְכֹֽתְבִ֑ים and write kātab וְעַל֙ ʿal הֶֽחָת֔וּם seal ḥātam שָׂרֵ֥ינוּ and our princes, śar לְוִיֵּ֖נוּ Levites, lēwiyyî כֹּֽהֲנֵֽינוּ׃ priests, kōhēn
