ഞാൻ ലേഖനത്താൽ നിങ്ങളെ ദുഃഖിപ്പിച്ചു എന്നു വരികിലും ഞാൻ അനുതപിക്കുന്നില്ല; ആ ലേഖനം നിങ്ങളെ കുറയനേരത്തേക്കെങ്കിലും ദുഃഖിപ്പിച്ചു എന്നു കാണുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു മുമ്പെ അനുതപിച്ചു എങ്കിലും ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നു;

For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

For though I made you sorry with my epistle, I do not regret it: though I did regret `it' (for I see that that epistle made you sorry, though but for a season),
