וַיָּקָם֩ there arose qûm אַֽחֲרֵ֨י And after ʾaḥar אֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ Abimelech ʾăbîmelek לְהוֹשִׁ֣יעַ to defend yāšaʿ אֶת ʾēt יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל Israel yiśrāʾēl תּוֹלָ֧ע Tola tôlāʿ בֶּן the son bēn פּוּאָ֛ה of Puah, pûʾâ בֶּן the son bēn דּוֹד֖וֹ of Dodo, dôdô אִ֣ישׁ a man ʾîš יִשָּׂשכָ֑ר of Issachar; yiśśokār וְהֽוּא and he hûʾ יֹשֵׁ֥ב dwelt yāšab בְּשָׁמִ֖יר in Shamir šāmîr בְּהַ֥ר in mount har אֶפְרָֽיִם׃ Ephraim. ʾeprayim

וַיִּשְׁפֹּט֙ And he judged šāpaṭ אֶת ʾēt יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel yiśrāʾēl עֶשְׂרִ֥ים twenty ʿeśrîm וְשָׁלֹ֖שׁ and three šālôš שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיָּ֖מָת and died, mût וַיִּקָּבֵ֥ר and was buried qābar בְּשָׁמִֽיר׃ in Shamir. šāmîr

וַיָּ֣קָם him arose qûm אַֽחֲרָ֔יו And after ʾaḥar יָאִ֖יר Jair, yāʾîr הַגִּלְעָדִ֑י a Gileadite, gilʿādî וַיִּשְׁפֹּט֙ and judged šāpaṭ אֶת ʾēt יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel yiśrāʾēl עֶשְׂרִ֥ים twenty ʿeśrîm וּשְׁתַּ֖יִם and two šĕnayim שָׁנָֽה׃ years. šāne

וַֽיְהִי And he had hāyâ ל֞וֹ שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים thirty šĕlôšîm בָּנִ֗ים sons bēn רֹֽכְבִים֙ that rode rākab עַל on ʿal שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים thirty šĕlôšîm עֲיָרִ֔ים ass colts, ʿayir וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים had thirty šĕlôšîm עֲיָרִ֖ים cities, ʿîr לָהֶ֑ם and they hēm לָהֶ֞ם which hēm יִקְרְא֣וּ׀ are called qārāʾ חַוֹּ֣ת יָאִ֗יר Havoth-jair ḥawwôt yāʿîr עַ֚ד unto ʿad הַיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַזֶּ֔ה this ze אֲשֶׁ֖ר which ʾăšer בְּאֶ֥רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ הַגִּלְעָֽד׃ of Gilead. gilʿād

וַיָּ֣מָת died, mût יָאִ֔יר And Jair yāʾîr וַיִּקָּבֵ֖ר and was buried qābar בְּקָמֽוֹן׃ in Camon. qāmôn

וַיֹּסִ֣יפוּ׀ again yāsap בְּנֵ֣י And the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl לַֽעֲשׂ֣וֹת did ʿāśâ הָרַע֮ evil raʿ בְּעֵינֵ֣י in the sight ʿayin יְהוָה֒ of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיַּֽעַבְד֣וּ and served ʿābad אֶת ʾēt הַבְּעָלִ֣ים Baalim, baʿal וְאֶת ʾēt הָֽעַשְׁתָּר֡וֹת and Ashtaroth, ʿaštārôt וְאֶת ʾēt אֱלֹהֵ֣י and the gods ʾĕlōhîm אֲרָם֩ of Syria, ʾărām וְאֶת ʾēt אֱלֹהֵ֨י and the gods ʾĕlōhîm צִיד֜וֹן of Zidon, ṣîdôn וְאֵ֣ת׀ ʾēt אֱלֹהֵ֣י and the gods ʾĕlōhîm מוֹאָ֗ב of Moab, môʾāb וְאֵת֙ ʾēt אֱלֹהֵ֣י and the gods ʾĕlōhîm בְנֵֽי of the children bēn עַמּ֔וֹן of Ammon, ʿammôn וְאֵ֖ת ʾēt אֱלֹהֵ֣י and the gods ʾĕlōhîm פְלִשְׁתִּ֑ים of the Philistines, pĕlištî וַיַּֽעַזְב֥וּ and forsook ʿāzab אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֖ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְלֹ֥א not him. lōʾ עֲבָדֽוּהוּ׃ and served ʿābad

וַיִּֽחַר was hot ḥārâ אַ֥ף And the anger ʾap יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל against Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַֽיִּמְכְּרֵם֙ and he sold mākar בְּיַד them into the hands yād פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים of the Philistines, pĕlištî וּבְיַ֖ד and into the hands yād בְּנֵ֥י of the children bēn עַמּֽוֹן׃ of Ammon. ʿammôn

וַֽיִּרְעֲצ֤וּ they vexed rāʿaṣ וַיְרֹֽצְצוּ֙ and oppressed rāṣaṣ אֶת ʾēt בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel: yiśrāʾēl בַּשָּׁנָ֖ה year šāne הַהִ֑יא And that hûʾ שְׁמֹנֶ֨ה eighteen šĕmōne עֶשְׂרֵ֜ה ʿāśār שָׁנָ֗ה years, šāne אֶֽת ʾēt כָּל all kōl בְּנֵ֤י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁר֙ that ʾăšer בְּעֵ֣בֶר on the other side ʿēber הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן Jordan yardēn בְּאֶ֥רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ הָֽאֱמֹרִ֖י of the Amorites, ʾĕmōrî אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer בַּגִּלְעָֽד׃ in Gilead. gilʿād

וַיַּֽעַבְר֤וּ passed over ʿābar בְנֵֽי Moreover the children bēn עַמּוֹן֙ of Ammon ʿammôn אֶת ʾēt הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן Jordan yardēn לְהִלָּחֵ֛ם to fight lāḥam גַּם also gam בִּֽיהוּדָ֥ה against Judah, yĕhûdâ וּבְבִנְיָמִ֖ין and against Benjamin, binyāmîn וּבְבֵ֣ית and against the house bayit אֶפְרָ֑יִם of Ephraim; ʾeprayim וַתֵּ֥צֶר distressed. yāṣar לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל so that Israel yiśrāʾēl מְאֹֽד׃ was sore mĕʾōd

וַֽיִּזְעֲקוּ֙ cried zāʿaq בְּנֵ֣י And the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוָ֖ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar חָטָ֣אנוּ We have sinned ḥāṭāʾ לָ֔ךְ וְכִ֤י against thee, both because kî עָזַ֙בְנוּ֙ we have forsaken ʿāzab אֶת ʾēt אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ our God, ʾĕlōhîm וַֽנַּעֲבֹ֖ד and also served ʿābad אֶת ʾēt הַבְּעָלִֽים׃ Baalim. baʿal

וַ֥יֹּאמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָ֖ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl הֲלֹ֤א not lōʾ מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ from the Egyptians, miṣrayim וּמִן and from min הָ֣אֱמֹרִ֔י the Amorites, ʾĕmōrî וּמִן from min בְּנֵ֥י the children bēn עַמּ֖וֹן of Ammon, ʿammôn וּמִן and from min פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ the Philistines? pĕlištî

וְצִֽידוֹנִ֤ים The Zidonians ṣîdōnî וַֽעֲמָלֵק֙ also, and the Amalekites, ʿămālēq וּמָע֔וֹן and the Maonites, māʿôn לָֽחֲצ֖וּ did oppress lāḥaṣ אֶתְכֶ֑ם ʾēt וַתִּצְעֲק֣וּ you; and ye cried ṣāʿaq אֵלַ֔י to ʾēl וָֽאוֹשִׁ֥יעָה me, and I delivered yāšaʿ אֶתְכֶ֖ם ʾēt מִיָּדָֽם׃ you out of their hand. yād

וְאַתֶּם֙ Yet ye ʾattâ עֲזַבְתֶּ֣ם have forsaken ʿāzab אוֹתִ֔י ʾēt וַתַּֽעַבְד֖וּ me, and served ʿābad אֱלֹהִ֣ים gods: ʾĕlōhîm אֲחֵרִ֑ים other ʾaḥēr לָכֵ֥ן wherefore kēn לֹֽא you no lōʾ אוֹסִ֖יף more. yāsap לְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ I will deliver yāšaʿ אֶתְכֶֽם׃ ʾēt

לְכ֗וּ Go hālak וְזַֽעֲקוּ֙ and cry zāʿaq אֶל unto ʾēl הָ֣אֱלֹהִ֔ים the gods ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer בְּחַרְתֶּ֖ם ye have chosen; bāḥar בָּ֑ם הֵ֛מָּה let them hēm יוֹשִׁ֥יעוּ deliver yāšaʿ לָכֶ֖ם בְּעֵ֥ת you in the time ʿēt צָֽרַתְכֶֽם׃ of your tribulation. ṣārâ

וַיֹּֽאמְר֨וּ said ʾāmar בְנֵֽי And the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוָה֙ the Lord, yĕhōwâ חָטָ֔אנוּ We have sinned: ḥāṭāʾ עֲשֵׂה do ʿāśâ אַתָּ֣ה thou ʾattâ לָ֔נוּ כְּכָל unto us whatsoever kōl הַטּ֖וֹב good ṭôb בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ seemeth ʿayin אַ֛ךְ us only, ʾak הַצִּילֵ֥נוּ unto thee; deliver nāṣal נָ֖א we pray thee, nāʾ הַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וַיָּסִ֜ירוּ And they put away sûr אֶת ʾēt אֱלֹהֵ֤י gods ʾĕlōhîm הַנֵּכָר֙ the strange nēkār מִקִּרְבָּ֔ם from among qereb וַיַּֽעַבְד֖וּ them, and served ʿābad אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֑ה the Lord: yĕhōwâ וַתִּקְצַ֥ר was grieved qāṣar נַפְשׁ֖וֹ and his soul nepeš בַּֽעֲמַ֥ל for the misery ʿāmāl יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וַיִּצָּֽעֲקוּ֙ were gathered together, ṣāʿaq בְּנֵ֣י Then the children bēn עַמּ֔וֹן of Ammon ʿammôn וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ and encamped ḥānâ בַּגִּלְעָ֑ד in Gilead. gilʿād וַיֵּאָֽסְפוּ֙ assembled themselves together, ʾāsap בְּנֵ֣י And the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ and encamped ḥānâ בַּמִּצְפָּֽה׃ in Mizpeh. miṣpâ

וַיֹּֽאמְר֨וּ said ʾāmar הָעָ֜ם And the people ʿam שָׂרֵ֤י princes śar גִלְעָד֙ of Gilead gilʿād אִ֣ישׁ one ʾîš אֶל to ʾēl רֵעֵ֔הוּ another, rēaʿ מִ֣י What mî הָאִ֔ישׁ man ʾîš אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer יָחֵ֔ל will begin ḥālal לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם to fight lāḥam בִּבְנֵ֣י against the children bēn עַמּ֑וֹן of Ammon? ʿammôn יִֽהְיֶ֣ה he shall be hāyâ לְרֹ֔אשׁ head rōš לְכֹ֖ל over all kōl יֹֽשְׁבֵ֥י the inhabitants yāšab גִלְעָֽד׃ of Gilead. gilʿād
