וַֽיְהִי֙ And it came to pass, hāyâ כַּֽאֲשֶׁר when ʾăšer תַּ֣מּוּ were clean tāmam כָל all kōl הַגּ֔וֹי the people gôy לַֽעֲב֖וֹר passed over ʿābar אֶת ʾēt הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן Jordan, yardēn וַיֹּ֣אמֶר spake ʾāmar יְהוָ֔ה that the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ Joshua, yĕhôšûaʿ לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

קְח֤וּ Take lāqaḥ לָכֶם֙ מִן out of min הָעָ֔ם the people, ʿam שְׁנֵ֥ים you twelve šĕnayim עָשָׂ֖ר ʿāśār אֲנָשִׁ֑ים men ʾĕnôš אִישׁ ʾîš אֶחָ֥ד out of every ʾeḥād אִישׁ a man, ʾîš אֶחָ֖ד ʾeḥād מִשָּֽׁבֶט׃ tribe šēbeṭ

וְצַוּ֣וּ And command ṣāwâ אוֹתָם֮ ʾēt לֵאמֹר֒ ye them, saying, ʾāmar שְׂאֽוּ Take nāśāʾ לָכֶ֨ם מִזֶּ֜ה you hence ze מִתּ֣וֹךְ out of the midst tāwek הַיַּרְדֵּ֗ן of Jordan, yardēn מִמַּצַּב֙ stood maṣṣāb רַגְלֵ֣י feet regel הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֔ים out of the place where the priests' kōhēn הָכִ֖ין firm, kûn שְׁתֵּים twelve šĕnayim עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה ʿāśār אֲבָנִ֑ים stones, ʾeben וְהַֽעֲבַרְתֶּ֤ם and ye shall carry them over ʿābar אוֹתָם֙ ʾēt עִמָּכֶ֔ם with ʿim וְהִנַּחְתֶּ֣ם you, and leave yānaḥ אוֹתָ֔ם ʾēt בַּמָּל֕וֹן them in the lodging place, mālôn אֲשֶׁר where ʾăšer תָּלִ֥ינוּ ye shall lodge lûn ב֖וֹ הַלָּֽיְלָה׃ this night. layil

וַיִּקְרָ֣א called qārāʾ יְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַ Then Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ אֶל ʾēl שְׁנֵ֤ים the twelve šĕnayim הֶֽעָשָׂר֙ ʿāśār אִ֔ישׁ men, ʾîš אֲשֶׁ֥ר whom ʾăšer הֵכִ֖ין he had prepared kûn מִבְּנֵ֣י of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl אִישׁ a man: ʾîš אֶחָ֥ד out of every ʾeḥād אִישׁ ʾîš אֶחָ֖ד ʾeḥād מִשָּֽׁבֶט׃ tribe šēbeṭ

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar לָהֶם֙ יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ And Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ עִ֠בְרוּ unto them, Pass over ʿābar לִפְנֵ֨י before pānîm אֲר֧וֹן the ark ʾārôn יְהוָ֛ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֖ם your God ʾĕlōhîm אֶל into ʾēl תּ֣וֹךְ the midst tāwek הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן of Jordan, yardēn וְהָרִ֨ימוּ and take ye up rûm לָכֶ֜ם אִ֣ישׁ man ʾîš אֶ֤בֶן of you a stone ʾeben אַחַת֙ every ʾeḥād עַל upon ʿal שִׁכְמ֔וֹ his shoulder, šĕkem לְמִסְפַּ֖ר according unto the number mispār שִׁבְטֵ֥י of the tribes šēbeṭ בְנֵֽי of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel: yiśrāʾēl

לְמַ֗עַן That maʿan תִּֽהְיֶ֛ה may be hāyâ זֹ֥את this zōt א֖וֹת a sign ʾôt בְּקִרְבְּכֶ֑ם among qereb כִּֽי you, when kî יִשְׁאָל֨וּן ask šāʾal בְּנֵיכֶ֤ם your children bēn מָחָר֙ in time to come, māḥār לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar מָ֛ה What mâ הָֽאֲבָנִ֥ים stones? ʾeben הָאֵ֖לֶּה ye by these ʾēlle לָכֶֽם׃

וַֽאֲמַרְתֶּ֣ם Then ye shall answer ʾāmar לָהֶ֗ם אֲשֶׁ֨ר them, That ʾăšer נִכְרְת֜וּ were cut off kārat מֵימֵ֤י the waters mayim הַיַּרְדֵּן֙ of Jordan yardēn מִפְּנֵי֙ before pānîm אֲר֣וֹן the ark ʾārôn בְּרִית of the covenant bĕrît יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord; yĕhōwâ בְּעָבְרוֹ֙ when it passed over ʿābar בַּיַּרְדֵּ֔ן Jordan, yardēn נִכְרְת֖וּ were cut off: kārat מֵ֣י the waters mayim הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן of Jordan yardēn וְ֠הָיוּ shall be hāyâ הָֽאֲבָנִ֨ים stones ʾeben הָאֵ֧לֶּה and these ʾēlle לְזִכָּר֛וֹן for a memorial zikrôn לִבְנֵ֥י unto the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl עַד for ʿad עוֹלָֽם׃ ever. ʿôlām

וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ did ʿāśâ כֵ֣ן so kēn בְּנֵֽי And the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ of Israel yiśrāʾēl כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר as ʾăšer צִוָּ֣ה commanded, ṣāwâ יְהוֹשֻׁעַ֒ Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ וַיִּשְׂא֡וּ and took up nāśāʾ שְׁתֵּֽי twelve šĕnayim עֶשְׂרֵ֨ה ʿāśār אֲבָנִ֜ים stones ʾeben מִתּ֣וֹךְ out of the midst tāwek הַיַּרְדֵּ֗ן of Jordan, yardēn כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר as ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֤ר spake dābar יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ Joshua, yĕhôšûaʿ לְמִסְפַּ֖ר according to the number mispār שִׁבְטֵ֣י of the tribes šēbeṭ בְנֵֽי of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַיַּֽעֲבִר֤וּם and carried them over ʿābar עִמָּם֙ with ʿim אֶל them unto ʾēl הַמָּל֔וֹן the place where they lodged, mālôn וַיַּנִּח֖וּם and laid them down yānaḥ שָֽׁם׃ there. šām

וּשְׁתֵּ֧ים twelve šĕnayim עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה ʿāśār אֲבָנִ֗ים stones ʾeben הֵקִ֣ים set up qûm יְהוֹשֻׁעַ֮ And Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ בְּת֣וֹךְ in the midst tāwek הַיַּרְדֵּן֒ of Jordan, yardēn תַּ֗חַת in the place taḥat מַצַּב֙ stood: maṣṣāb רַגְלֵ֣י where the feet regel הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֔ים of the priests kōhēn נֹֽשְׂאֵ֖י which bare nāśāʾ אֲר֣וֹן the ark ʾārôn הַבְּרִ֑ית of the covenant bĕrît וַיִּ֣הְיוּ and they are hāyâ שָׁ֔ם there šām עַ֖ד unto ʿad הַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וְהַכֹּֽהֲנִ֞ים For the priests kōhēn נֹֽשְׂאֵ֣י which bare nāśāʾ הָֽאָר֗וֹן the ark ʾārôn עֹֽמְדִים֮ stood ʿāmad בְּת֣וֹךְ in the midst tāwek הַיַּרְדֵּן֒ of Jordan, yardēn עַ֣ד until ʿad תֹּ֣ם was finished tāmam כָּֽל kōl הַ֠דָּבָר every thing dābār אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer צִוָּ֨ה commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ לְדַבֵּ֣ר to speak dābar אֶל unto ʾēl הָעָ֔ם the people, ʿam כְּכֹ֛ל according to all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer צִוָּ֥ה commanded ṣāwâ מֹשֶׁ֖ה Moses mōše אֶת ʾēt יְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ Joshua: yĕhôšûaʿ וַיְמַֽהֲר֥וּ hasted māhar הָעָ֖ם and the people ʿam וַֽיַּעֲבֹֽרוּ׃ and passed over. ʿābar

וַיְהִ֛י And it came to pass, hāyâ כַּֽאֲשֶׁר when ʾăšer תַּ֥ם were clean tāmam כָּל all kōl הָעָ֖ם the people ʿam לַֽעֲב֑וֹר passed over, ʿābar וַיַּֽעֲבֹ֧ר passed over, ʿābar אֲרוֹן that the ark ʾārôn יְהוָ֛ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ וְהַכֹּֽהֲנִ֖ים and the priests, kōhēn לִפְנֵ֥י in the presence pānîm הָעָֽם׃ of the people. ʿam

וַ֠יַּֽעַבְרוּ passed over ʿābar בְּנֵֽי And the children bēn רְאוּבֵ֨ן of Reuben, rĕʾûbēn וּבְנֵי and the children bēn גָ֜ד of Gad, gād וַֽחֲצִ֨י and half ḥēṣî שֵׁ֤בֶט the tribe šēbeṭ הַֽמְנַשֶּׁה֙ of Manasseh, mĕnašše חֲמֻשִׁ֔ים armed ḥāmuš לִפְנֵ֖י before pānîm בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר as ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֥ר spake dābar אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם unto them: ʾēl מֹשֶֽׁה׃ Moses mōše

כְּאַרְבָּעִ֥ים About forty ʾarbāʿîm אֶ֖לֶף thousand ʾelep חֲלוּצֵ֣י prepared ḥālaṣ הַצָּבָ֑א for war ṣābāʾ עָֽבְר֞וּ passed over ʿābar לִפְנֵ֤י before pānîm יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה unto battle, milḥāmâ אֶ֖ל to ʾēl עַֽרְב֥וֹת the plains ʿărābâ יְרִיחֽוֹ׃ of Jericho. yĕrîḥô

בַּיּ֣וֹם day yôm הַה֗וּא On that hûʾ גִּדַּ֤ל magnified gādal יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ בְּעֵינֵ֖י in the sight ʿayin כָּל of all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel; yiśrāʾēl וַיִּֽרְא֣וּ and they feared yārēʾ אֹת֔וֹ ʾēt כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר him, as ʾăšer יָֽרְא֥וּ they feared yārēʾ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶׁ֖ה Moses, mōše כָּל all kōl יְמֵ֥י the days yôm חַיָּֽיו׃ of his life. ḥay

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר spake ʾāmar יְהוָ֔ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ Joshua, yĕhôšûaʿ לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

צַוֵּה֙ Command ṣāwâ אֶת ʾēt הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים the priests kōhēn נֹֽשְׂאֵ֖י that bear nāśāʾ אֲר֣וֹן the ark ʾārôn הָֽעֵד֑וּת of the testimony, ʿēdût וְיַֽעֲל֖וּ that they come up ʿālâ מִן out of min הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ Jordan. yardēn

וַיְצַ֣ו therefore commanded ṣāwâ יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ אֶת ʾēt הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֖ים the priests, kōhēn לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar עֲל֖וּ Come ye up ʿālâ מִן out of min הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ Jordan. yardēn

וַ֠יְהִי And it came to pass, hāyâ כַּֽעֲל֨וֹת were come up ʿālâ הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֜ים when the priests kōhēn נֹֽשְׂאֵ֨י that bare nāśāʾ אֲר֤וֹן the ark ʾārôn בְּרִית of the covenant bĕrît יְהוָה֙ of the Lord yĕhōwâ מִתּ֣וֹךְ out of the midst tāwek הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן of Jordan, yardēn נִתְּק֗וּ were lifted up nātaq כַּפּוֹת֙ the soles kap רַגְלֵ֣י feet regel הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֔ים of the priests' kōhēn אֶ֖ל unto ʾēl הֶחָֽרָבָ֑ה the dry land, ḥārābâ וַיָּשֻׁ֤בוּ returned šûb מֵֽי that the waters mayim הַיַּרְדֵּן֙ of Jordan yardēn לִמְקוֹמָ֔ם unto their place, māqôm וַיֵּֽלְכ֥וּ and flowed hālak כִתְמוֹל as tĕmôl שִׁלְשׁ֖וֹם before. šilšôm עַל over ʿal כָּל all kōl גְּדוֹתָֽיו׃ his banks, gādâ

וְהָעָ֗ם And the people ʿam עָלוּ֙ came up ʿālâ מִן out of min הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן Jordan yardēn בֶּֽעָשׂ֖וֹר on the tenth ʿāśôr לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ month, ḥōdeš הָֽרִאשׁ֑וֹן of the first riʾšôn וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙ and encamped ḥānâ בַּגִּלְגָּ֔ל in Gilgal, gilgāl בִּקְצֵ֖ה border qāṣe מִזְרַ֥ח in the east mizrāḥ יְרִיחֽוֹ׃ of Jericho. yĕrîḥô

וְאֵת֩ ʾēt שְׁתֵּ֨ים twelve šĕnayim עֶשְׂרֵ֤ה ʿāśār הָֽאֲבָנִים֙ stones, ʾeben הָאֵ֔לֶּה And those ʾēlle אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer לָֽקְח֖וּ they took out lāqaḥ מִן of min הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן Jordan, yardēn הֵקִ֥ים pitch qûm יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ did Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ בַּגִּלְגָּֽל׃ in Gilgal. gilgāl

וַיֹּ֛אמֶר And he spake ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl בְּנֵ֥י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar אֲשֶׁר֩ When ʾăšer יִשְׁאָל֨וּן shall ask šāʾal בְּנֵיכֶ֤ם your children bēn מָחָר֙ in time to come, māḥār אֶת ʾēt אֲבוֹתָ֣ם their fathers ʾāb לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar מָ֖ה What mâ הָֽאֲבָנִ֥ים stones? ʾeben הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ these ʾēlle

וְהֽוֹדַעְתֶּ֖ם know, yādaʿ אֶת Then ye shall let ʾēt בְּנֵיכֶ֣ם your children bēn לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar בַּיַּבָּשָׁה֙ on dry land. yabbāšâ עָבַ֣ר came over ʿābar יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶת ʾēt הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן Jordan yardēn הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

אֲשֶׁר For ʾăšer הוֹבִישׁ֩ dried up yābēš יְהוָ֨ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֜ם your God ʾĕlōhîm אֶת ʾēt מֵ֧י the waters mayim הַיַּרְדֵּ֛ן of Jordan yardēn מִפְּנֵיכֶ֖ם from before pānîm עַֽד you, until ʿad עָבְרְכֶ֑ם ye were passed over, ʿābar כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר as ʾăšer עָשָׂה֩ did ʿāśâ יְהוָ֨ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֧ם your God ʾĕlōhîm לְיַם sea, yām ס֛וּף to the Red sûp אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer הוֹבִ֥ישׁ he dried up yābēš מִפָּנֵ֖ינוּ from before pānîm עַד us, until ʿad עָבְרֵֽנוּ׃ we were gone over: ʿābar

לְ֠מַעַן That maʿan דַּ֜עַת might know yādaʿ כָּל all kōl עַמֵּ֤י the people ʿam הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ of the earth ʾereṣ אֶת ʾēt יַ֣ד the hand yād יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ כִּ֥י that kî חֲזָקָ֖ה mighty: ḥāzāq הִ֑יא it hûʾ לְמַ֧עַן that maʿan יְרָאתֶ֛ם ye might fear yārēʾ אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֖ם your God ʾĕlōhîm כָּל kōl הַיָּמִֽים׃ for ever. yôm
