וַֽיְהִי֙ And it came to pass hāyâ מִיָּמִ֣ים time yôm רַבִּ֔ים a long rab אַֽ֠חֲרֵי after ʾaḥar אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer הֵנִ֨יחַ had given rest nûaḥ יְהוָ֧ה the Lord yĕhōwâ לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל unto Israel yiśrāʾēl מִכָּל from all kōl אֹֽיְבֵיהֶ֖ם their enemies ʾōyēb מִסָּבִ֑יב round about, sābîb וִֽיהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ that Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ זָקֵ֔ן waxed old zāqēn בָּ֖א stricken bôʾ בַּיָּמִֽים׃ in age. yôm

וַיִּקְרָ֤א called qārāʾ יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ And Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ לְכָל for all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl לִזְקֵנָיו֙ for their elders, zāqēn וּלְרָאשָׁ֔יו and for their heads, rōš וּלְשֹֽׁפְטָ֖יו and for their judges, šāpaṭ וּלְשֹֽׁטְרָ֑יו and for their officers, šōṭēr וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and said ʾāmar אֲלֵהֶ֔ם unto ʾēl אֲנִ֣י them, I ʾănî זָקַ֔נְתִּי am old zāqēn בָּ֖אתִי stricken bôʾ בַּיָּמִֽים׃ in age: yôm

וְאַתֶּ֣ם And ye ʾattâ רְאִיתֶ֗ם have seen rāʾâ אֵת֩ ʾēt כָּל all kōl אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ʾăšer עָשָׂ֜ה hath done ʿāśâ יְהוָ֧ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֛ם your God ʾĕlōhîm לְכָל unto all kōl הַגּוֹיִ֥ם nations gôy הָאֵ֖לֶּה these ʾēlle מִפְּנֵיכֶ֑ם because pānîm כִּ֚י of you; for kî יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם your God ʾĕlōhîm ה֖וּא he hûʾ הַנִּלְחָ֥ם that hath fought for you. lāḥam לָכֶֽם׃

רְאוּ֩ Behold, rāʾâ הִפַּ֨לְתִּי I have divided nāpal לָכֶ֜ם אֶֽת unto you by lot ʾēt הַ֠גּוֹיִם nations gôy הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֥ים that remain, šāʾar הָאֵ֛לֶּה these ʾēlle בְּנַֽחֲלָ֖ה to be an inheritance naḥălâ לְשִׁבְטֵיכֶ֑ם for your tribes, šēbeṭ מִן from min הַיַּרְדֵּ֗ן Jordan, yardēn וְכָל with all kōl הַגּוֹיִם֙ the nations gôy אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer הִכְרַ֔תִּי I have cut off, kārat וְהַיָּ֥ם sea yām הַגָּד֖וֹל even unto the great gādôl מְב֥וֹא westward. mābôʾ הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ šemeš

וַֽיהוָ֣ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֗ם your God, ʾĕlōhîm ה֚וּא he hûʾ יֶהְדֳּפֵ֣ם shall expel hādap מִפְּנֵיכֶ֔ם them from before pānîm וְהוֹרִ֥ישׁ you, and drive yāraš אֹתָ֖ם ʾēt מִלִּפְנֵיכֶ֑ם them from out of your sight; pānîm וִֽירִשְׁתֶּם֙ and ye shall possess yāraš אֶת ʾēt אַרְצָ֔ם their land, ʾereṣ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֛ר hath promised unto you. dābar יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֖ם your God ʾĕlōhîm לָכֶֽם׃

וַֽחֲזַקְתֶּ֣ם courageous ḥāzaq מְאֹ֔ד Be ye therefore very mĕʾōd לִשְׁמֹ֣ר to keep šāmar וְלַֽעֲשׂ֔וֹת and to do ʿāśâ אֵ֚ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַכָּת֔וּב that is written kātab בְּסֵ֖פֶר in the book sēper תּוֹרַ֣ת of the law tôrâ מֹשֶׁ֑ה of Moses, mōše לְבִלְתִּ֥י not biltî סוּר that ye turn sûr מִמֶּ֖נּוּ aside therefrom min יָמִ֥ין the right hand yāmîn וּשְׂמֹֽאול׃ or the left; śĕmōwl

לְבִלְתִּי not biltî בוֹא֙ That ye come bôʾ בַּגּוֹיִ֣ם nations, gôy הָאֵ֔לֶּה among these ʾēlle הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֥ים that remain šāʾar הָאֵ֖לֶּה these ʾēlle אִתְּכֶ֑ם ʾēt וּבְשֵׁ֨ם of the name šēm אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶ֤ם of their gods, ʾĕlōhîm לֹֽא among you; neither lōʾ תַזְכִּ֙ירוּ֙ make mention zākar וְלֹ֣א nor lōʾ תַשְׁבִּ֔יעוּ cause to swear šābaʿ וְלֹ֣א neither lōʾ תַֽעַבְד֔וּם serve ʿābad וְלֹ֥א them, nor lōʾ תִֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּ bow yourselves unto them: šāḥâ לָהֶֽם׃

כִּ֛י But kî אִם ʾim בַּֽיהוָ֥ה unto the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֖ם your God, ʾĕlōhîm תִּדְבָּ֑קוּ cleave dābaq כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר as ʾăšer עֲשִׂיתֶ֔ם ye have done ʿāśâ עַ֖ד unto ʿad הַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וַיּ֤וֹרֶשׁ hath driven out yāraš יְהוָה֙ For the Lord yĕhōwâ מִפְּנֵיכֶ֔ם from before pānîm גּוֹיִ֖ם nations gôy גְּדֹלִ֣ים you great gādôl וַֽעֲצוּמִ֑ים and strong: ʿāṣûm וְאַתֶּ֗ם but you, ʾattâ לֹא no lōʾ עָ֤מַד hath been able to stand ʿāmad אִישׁ֙ man ʾîš בִּפְנֵיכֶ֔ם before pānîm עַ֖ד you unto ʿad הַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

אִישׁ man ʾîš אֶחָ֥ד One ʾeḥād מִכֶּ֖ם of min יִרְדָּף you shall chase rādap אָ֑לֶף a thousand: ʾelep כִּ֣י׀ for kî יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֗ם your God, ʾĕlōhîm ה֚וּא he hûʾ הַנִּלְחָ֣ם that fighteth lāḥam לָכֶ֔ם כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר for you, as ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֥ר he hath promised you. dābar לָכֶֽם׃

וְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּ֥ם heed šāmar מְאֹ֖ד Take good mĕʾōd לְנַפְשֹֽׁתֵיכֶ֑ם therefore unto yourselves, nepeš לְאַֽהֲבָ֖ה that ye love ʾāhab אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶֽם׃ your God. ʾĕlōhîm

כִּ֣י׀ Else kî אִם if ʾim שׁ֣וֹב ye do in any wise šûb תָּשׁ֗וּבוּ go back, šûb וּדְבַקְתֶּם֙ and cleave dābaq בְּיֶ֙תֶר֙ unto the remnant yeter הַגּוֹיִ֣ם nations, gôy הָאֵ֔לֶּה of these ʾēlle הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֥ים that remain šāʾar הָאֵ֖לֶּה these ʾēlle אִתְּכֶ֑ם among ʾēt וְהִֽתְחַתַּנְתֶּ֥ם you, and shall make marriages ḥātan בָּהֶ֛ם וּבָאתֶ֥ם with them, and go in bôʾ בָּהֶ֖ם וְהֵ֥ם unto them, and they to you: hēm בָּכֶֽם׃

יָד֙וֹעַ֙ Know yādaʿ תֵּֽדְע֔וּ for a certainty yādaʿ כִּי֩ that kî לֹ֨א will no lōʾ יוֹסִ֜יף more yāsap יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֗ם your God ʾĕlōhîm לְהוֹרִ֛ישׁ drive out yāraš אֶת ʾēt הַגּוֹיִ֥ם nations gôy הָאֵ֖לֶּה these ʾēlle מִלִּפְנֵיכֶ֑ם from before pānîm וְהָי֨וּ you; but they shall be hāyâ לָכֶ֜ם לְפַ֣ח snares paḥ וּלְמוֹקֵ֗שׁ and traps môqēš וּלְשֹׁטֵ֤ט unto you, and scourges šōṭēṭ בְּצִדֵּיכֶם֙ in your sides, ṣad וְלִצְנִנִ֣ים and thorns ṣānîn בְּעֵֽינֵיכֶ֔ם in your eyes, ʿayin עַד until ʿad אֲבָדְכֶ֗ם ye perish ʾābad מֵ֠עַל from off ʿal הָֽאֲדָמָ֤ה land ʾădāmâ הַטּוֹבָה֙ good ṭôb הַזֹּ֔את this zōt אֲשֶׁר֙ which ʾăšer נָתַ֣ן hath given you. nātan לָכֶ֔ם יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶֽם׃ your God ʾĕlōhîm

וְהִנֵּ֨ה And, behold, hinnē אָֽנֹכִ֤י I ʾānōkî הוֹלֵךְ֙ going hālak הַיּ֔וֹם this day yôm בְּדֶ֖רֶךְ the way derek כָּל of all kōl הָאָ֑רֶץ the earth: ʾereṣ וִֽידַעְתֶּ֞ם and ye know yādaʿ בְּכָל in all kōl לְבַבְכֶ֣ם your hearts lēbāb וּבְכָל and in all kōl נַפְשְׁכֶ֗ם your souls, nepeš כִּ֣י that kî לֹֽא not lōʾ נָפַל֩ hath failed nāpal דָּבָ֨ר thing dābār אֶחָ֜ד one ʾeḥād מִכֹּ֣ל׀ of all kōl הַדְּבָרִ֣ים things dābār הַטּוֹבִ֗ים the good ṭôb אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֜ר spake dābar יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙ your God ʾĕlōhîm עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם concerning ʿal הַכֹּל֙ you; all kōl בָּ֣אוּ are come to pass bôʾ לָכֶ֔ם לֹֽא unto you, not lōʾ נָפַ֥ל hath failed nāpal מִמֶּ֖נּוּ thereof. min דָּבָ֥ר thing dābār אֶחָֽד׃ one ʾeḥād

וְהָיָ֗ה Therefore it shall come to pass, hāyâ כַּֽאֲשֶׁר as ʾăšer בָּ֤א are come bôʾ עֲלֵיכֶם֙ upon ʿal כָּל all kōl הַדָּבָ֣ר things dābār הַטּ֔וֹב good ṭôb אֲשֶׁ֥ר you, which ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֛ר promised dābar יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֖ם your God ʾĕlōhîm אֲלֵיכֶ֑ם ʾēl כֵּן֩ you; so kēn יָבִ֨יא bring bôʾ יְהוָ֜ה shall the Lord yĕhōwâ עֲלֵיכֶ֗ם upon ʿal אֵ֚ת you ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַדָּבָ֣ר things, dābār הָרָ֔ע evil raʿ עַד until ʿad הַשְׁמִיד֣וֹ he have destroyed šāmad אֽוֹתְכֶ֗ם ʾēt מֵ֠עַל you from off ʿal הָֽאֲדָמָ֤ה land ʾădāmâ הַטּוֹבָה֙ good ṭôb הַזֹּ֔את this zōt אֲשֶׁר֙ which ʾăšer נָתַ֣ן hath given you. nātan לָכֶ֔ם יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶֽם׃ your God ʾĕlōhîm

בְּ֠עָבְרְכֶם When ye have transgressed ʿābar אֶת ʾēt בְּרִ֨ית the covenant bĕrît יְהוָ֥ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֮ your God, ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer צִוָּ֣ה he commanded ṣāwâ אֶתְכֶם֒ ʾēt וַֽהֲלַכְתֶּ֗ם you, and have gone hālak וַֽעֲבַדְתֶּם֙ and served ʿābad אֱלֹהִ֣ים gods, ʾĕlōhîm אֲחֵרִ֔ים other ʾaḥēr וְהִשְׁתַּֽחֲוִיתֶ֖ם and bowed yourselves šāḥâ לָהֶ֑ם hēm וְחָרָ֤ה be kindled ḥārâ אַף to them; then shall the anger ʾap יְהוָה֙ of the Lord yĕhōwâ בָּכֶ֔ם וַֽאֲבַדְתֶּ֣ם against you, and ye shall perish ʾābad מְהֵרָ֔ה quickly mĕhērâ מֵעַל֙ from off ʿal הָאָ֣רֶץ land ʾereṣ הַטּוֹבָ֔ה the good ṭôb אֲשֶׁ֖ר which ʾăšer נָתַ֥ן he hath given unto you. nātan לָכֶֽם׃
