וְאֵ֛לֶּה And these ʾēlle אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer נָֽחֲל֥וּ inherited nāḥal בְנֵֽי the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ כְּנָ֑עַן of Canaan, kĕnaʿan אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer נִֽחֲל֜וּ distributed for inheritance to them. nāḥal אוֹתָ֗ם ʾēt אֶלְעָזָ֤ר Eleazar ʾelʿāzār הַכֹּהֵן֙ the priest, kōhēn וִֽיהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ and Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ בִּן the son bēn נ֔וּן of Nun, nûn וְרָאשֵׁ֛י and the heads rōš אֲב֥וֹת of the fathers ʾāb הַמַּטּ֖וֹת of the tribes maṭṭe לִבְנֵ֥י of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl

בְּגוֹרַ֖ל By lot gôrāl נַֽחֲלָתָ֑ם their inheritance, naḥălâ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר as ʾăšer צִוָּ֤ה commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּיַד by the hand yād מֹשֶׁ֔ה of Moses, mōše לְתִשְׁעַ֥ת for the nine tēšaʿ הַמַּטּ֖וֹת tribes, maṭṭe וַֽחֲצִ֥י and the half ḥēṣî הַמַּטֶּֽה׃ tribe. maṭṭe

כִּֽי For kî נָתַ֨ן had given nātan מֹשֶׁ֜ה Moses mōše נַֽחֲלַ֨ת the inheritance naḥălâ שְׁנֵ֤י of two šĕnayim הַמַּטּוֹת֙ tribes maṭṭe וַֽחֲצִ֣י and an half ḥēṣî הַמַּטֶּ֔ה tribe maṭṭe מֵעֵ֖בֶר on the other side ʿēber לַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן Jordan: yardēn וְלַ֨לְוִיִּ֔ם but unto the Levites lēwiyyî לֹֽא none lōʾ נָתַ֥ן he gave nātan נַֽחֲלָ֖ה inheritance naḥălâ בְּתוֹכָֽם׃ among them. tāwek

כִּֽי For kî הָי֧וּ were hāyâ בְנֵֽי the children bēn יוֹסֵ֛ף of Joseph yôsēp שְׁנֵ֥י two šĕnayim מַטּ֖וֹת tribes, maṭṭe מְנַשֶּׁ֣ה Manasseh mĕnašše וְאֶפְרָ֑יִם and Ephraim: ʾeprayim וְלֹֽא no lōʾ נָתְנוּ֩ therefore they gave nātan חֵ֨לֶק part ḥēleq לַלְוִיִּ֜ם unto the Levites lēwiyyî בָּאָ֗רֶץ in the land, ʾereṣ כִּ֤י save kî אִם ʾim עָרִים֙ cities ʿîr לָשֶׁ֔בֶת to dwell yāšab וּמִ֨גְרְשֵׁיהֶ֔ם with their suburbs migroš לְמִקְנֵיהֶ֖ם for their cattle miqne וּלְקִנְיָנָֽם׃ and for their substance. qinyān

כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר As ʾăšer צִוָּ֤ה commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶׁ֔ה Moses, mōše כֵּ֥ן so kēn עָשׂ֖וּ did, ʿāśâ בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl וַֽיַּחְלְק֖וּ and they divided ḥālaq אֶת ʾēt הָאָֽרֶץ׃ the land. ʾereṣ

וַיִּגְּשׁ֨וּ came nāgaš בְנֵֽי Then the children bēn יְהוּדָ֤ה of Judah yĕhûdâ אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ בַּגִּלְגָּ֔ל in Gilgal: gilgāl וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said ʾāmar אֵלָ֔יו unto ʾēl כָּלֵ֥ב and Caleb kālēb בֶּן the son bēn יְפֻנֶּ֖ה of Jephunneh yĕpunne הַקְּנִזִּ֑י the Kenezite qĕnizzî אַתָּ֣ה him, Thou ʾattâ יָדַ֡עְתָּ knowest yādaʿ אֶֽת ʾēt הַדָּבָר֩ the thing dābār אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֨ר said dābar יְהוָ֜ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁ֣ה Moses mōše אִישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֗ים of God ʾĕlōhîm עַ֧ל concerning ʿal אֹֽדוֹתַ֛י me ʾôdôt וְעַ֥ל ʿal אֹֽדוֹתֶ֖יךָ and thee ʾôdôt בְּקָדֵ֥שׁ בַּרְנֵֽעַ׃ in Kadesh-barnea. qādēš barnēaʿ

בֶּן old bēn אַרְבָּעִ֨ים Forty ʾarbāʿîm שָׁנָ֜ה years šāne אָֽנֹכִ֗י I ʾānōkî בִּ֠שְׁלֹחַ sent šālaḥ מֹשֶׁ֨ה when Moses mōše עֶֽבֶד the servant ʿebed יְהוָ֥ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֹתִ֛י ʾēt מִקָּדֵ֥שׁ בַּרְנֵ֖עַ me from Kadesh-barnea qādēš barnēaʿ לְרַגֵּ֣ל to espy out rāgal אֶת ʾēt הָאָ֑רֶץ the land; ʾereṣ וָֽאָשֵׁ֤ב and I brought šûb אֹתוֹ֙ ʾēt דָּבָ֔ר him word dābār כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר again as ʾăšer עִם in ʿim לְבָבִֽי׃ mine heart. lēbāb

וְאַחַי֙ Nevertheless my brethren ʾāḥ אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer עָל֣וּ went up ʿālâ עִמִּ֔י with ʿim הִמְסִ֖יו melt: māsâ אֶת me made ʾēt לֵ֣ב the heart lēb הָעָ֑ם of the people ʿam וְאָֽנֹכִ֣י but I ʾānōkî מִלֵּ֔אתִי wholly mālēʾ אַֽחֲרֵ֖י followed ʾaḥar יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהָֽי׃ my God. ʾĕlōhîm

וַיִּשָּׁבַ֣ע sware šābaʿ מֹשֶׁ֗ה And Moses mōše בַּיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַהוּא֮ on that hûʾ לֵאמֹר֒ saying, ʾāmar אִם Surely ʾim לֹ֗א lōʾ הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֨ר whereon ʾăšer דָּֽרְכָ֤ה have trodden dārak רַגְלְךָ֙ thy feet regel בָּ֔הּ לְךָ֙ תִֽהְיֶ֧ה shall be hāyâ לְנַֽחֲלָ֛ה thine inheritance, naḥălâ וּלְבָנֶ֖יךָ and thy children's bēn עַד for ʿad עוֹלָ֑ם ever, ʿôlām כִּ֣י because kî מִלֵּ֔אתָ thou hast wholly mālēʾ אַֽחֲרֵ֖י followed ʾaḥar יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהָֽי׃ my God. ʾĕlōhîm

וְעַתָּ֗ה And now, ʿattâ הִנֵּה֩ behold, hinnē הֶֽחֱיָ֨ה hath kept me alive, ḥāyâ יְהוָ֣ה׀ the Lord yĕhōwâ אוֹתִי֮ ʾēt כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר as ʾăšer דִּבֵּר֒ he said, dābar זֶה֩ these ze אַרְבָּעִ֨ים forty ʾarbāʿîm וְחָמֵ֜שׁ and five ḥāmēš שָׁנָ֗ה years, šāne מֵ֠אָז even since ʾāz דִּבֶּ֨ר spake dābar יְהוָ֜ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt הַדָּבָ֤ר word dābār הַזֶּה֙ this ze אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁ֔ה Moses, mōše אֲשֶׁר while ʾăšer הָלַ֥ךְ wandered hālak יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל Israel yiśrāʾēl בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר in the wilderness: midbār וְעַתָּה֙ and now, ʿattâ הִנֵּ֣ה lo, hinnē אָֽנֹכִ֣י I ʾānōkî הַיּ֔וֹם this day yôm בֶּן old. bēn חָמֵ֥שׁ and five ḥāmēš וּשְׁמֹנִ֖ים fourscore šĕmōnîm שָׁנָֽה׃ years šāne

עוֹדֶ֨נִּי As yet ʿôd הַיּ֜וֹם this day yôm חָזָ֗ק I strong ḥāzāq כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֙ as ʾăšer בְּי֨וֹם in the day yôm שְׁלֹ֤חַ sent šālaḥ אוֹתִי֙ ʾēt מֹשֶׁ֔ה that Moses mōše כְּכֹ֥חִי me: as my strength kōaḥ אָ֖ז then, ʾāz וּכְכֹ֣חִי even so my strength kōaḥ עָ֑תָּה now, ʿattâ לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה for war, milḥāmâ וְלָצֵ֥את both to go out, yāṣāʾ וְלָבֽוֹא׃ and to come in. bôʾ

וְעַתָּ֗ה Now ʿattâ תְּנָה therefore give nātan לִּי֙ אֶת me ʾēt הָהָ֣ר mountain, har הַזֶּ֔ה this ze אֲשֶׁר whereof ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֥ר spake dābar יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ בַּיּ֣וֹם day; yôm הַה֑וּא in that hûʾ כִּ֣י for kî אַתָּֽה thou ʾattâ שָׁמַעְתָּ֩ heardest šāmaʿ בַיּ֨וֹם day yôm הַה֜וּא in that hûʾ כִּֽי how kî עֲנָקִ֣ים the Anakims ʿănāqî שָׁ֗ם there, šām וְעָרִים֙ and the cities ʿîr גְּדֹל֣וֹת great gādôl בְּצֻר֔וֹת fenced: bāṣar אוּלַ֨י if ʾûlay יְהוָ֤ה so be the Lord yĕhōwâ אוֹתִי֙ with ʾēt וְה֣וֹרַשְׁתִּ֔ים me, then I shall be able to drive them out, yāraš כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר as ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֥ר said. dābar יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord yĕhōwâ

וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֖הוּ blessed bārak יְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ And Joshua yĕhôšûaʿ וַיִּתֵּ֧ן him, and gave nātan אֶת ʾēt חֶבְר֛וֹן Hebron ḥebrôn לְכָלֵ֥ב unto Caleb kālēb בֶּן the son bēn יְפֻנֶּ֖ה of Jephunneh yĕpunne לְנַֽחֲלָֽה׃ for an inheritance. naḥălâ

עַל therefore ʿal כֵּ֣ן kēn הָיְתָֽה became hāyâ חֶ֠בְרוֹן Hebron ḥebrôn לְכָלֵ֨ב of Caleb kālēb בֶּן the son bēn יְפֻנֶּ֤ה of Jephunneh yĕpunne הַקְּנִזִּי֙ the Kenezite qĕnizzî לְֽנַחֲלָ֔ה the inheritance naḥălâ עַ֖ד unto ʿad הַיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַזֶּ֑ה this ze יַ֚עַן because yaʿan אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer מִלֵּ֔א he wholly mālēʾ אַֽחֲרֵ֕י followed ʾaḥar יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֥י God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וְשֵׁ֨ם And the name šēm חֶבְר֤וֹן of Hebron ḥebrôn לְפָנִים֙ before pānîm קִרְיַ֣ת אַרְבַּ֔ע Kirjath-arba; qiryat ʾarbaʿ הָֽאָדָ֧ם man ʾādām הַגָּד֛וֹל a great gādôl בָּֽעֲנָקִ֖ים among the Anakims. ʿănāqî ה֑וּא hûʾ וְהָאָ֥רֶץ And the land ʾereṣ שָֽׁקְטָ֖ה had rest šāqaṭ מִמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ from war. milḥāmâ
