רָא֣וּנִי saw rāʾâ נְעָרִ֣ים The young men naʿar וְנֶחְבָּ֑אוּ me, and hid themselves: ḥābāʾ וִֽ֝ישִׁישִׁים and the aged yāšîš קָ֣מוּ arose, qûm עָמָֽדוּ׃ stood up. ʿāmad

שָׂ֭רִים The princes śar עָצְר֣וּ refrained ʿāṣār בְמִלִּ֑ים talking, millâ וְ֝כַ֗ף hand kap יָשִׂ֥ימוּ and laid śûm לְפִיהֶֽם׃ on their mouth. pe

כִּ֤י When kî אֹ֣זֶן the ear ʾōzen שָׁ֭מְעָה heard šāmaʿ וַֽתְּאַשְּׁרֵ֑נִי then it blessed ʾāšar וְעַ֥יִן me; and when the eye ʿayin רָ֝אֲתָ֗ה saw rāʾâ וַתְּעִידֵֽנִי׃ it gave witness to me: ʿûd

כִּֽי Because kî אֲ֭מַלֵּט I delivered mālaṭ עָנִ֣י the poor ʿānî מְשַׁוֵּ֑עַ that cried, šāwaʿ וְ֝יָת֗וֹם and the fatherless, yātôm וְֽלֹא and none lōʾ עֹזֵ֥ר to help him. ʿāzar לֽוֹ׃

בִּרְכַּ֣ת The blessing bĕrākâ אֹ֭בֵד of him that was ready to perish ʾābad עָלַ֣י upon ʿal תָּבֹ֑א came bôʾ וְלֵ֖ב heart lēb אַלְמָנָ֣ה me: and I caused the widow's ʾalmānâ אַרְנִֽן׃ to sing for joy. rānan

צֶ֣דֶק righteousness, ṣedeq לָ֭בַשְׁתִּי I put on lābaš וַיִּלְבָּשֵׁ֑נִי and it clothed lābaš כִּמְעִ֥יל as a robe mĕʿîl וְ֝צָנִ֗יף and a diadem. ṣānîp מִשְׁפָּטִֽי׃ me: my judgment mišpāṭ

עֵינַ֣יִם eyes ʿayin הָ֭יִיתִי I was hāyâ לַֽעִוֵּ֑ר to the blind, ʿiwwēr וְרַגְלַ֖יִם and feet regel לַפִּסֵּ֣חַ to the lame. pissēaḥ אָֽנִי׃ I ʾănî

אָ֣ב a father ʾāb אָ֭נֹכִֽי I ʾānōkî לָֽאֶבְיוֹנִ֑ים to the poor: ʾebyôn וְרִ֖ב and the cause rîb לֹא not lōʾ יָדַ֣עְתִּי I knew yādaʿ אֶחְקְרֵֽהוּ׃ I searched out. ḥāqar

וָֽ֭אֲשַׁבְּרָה And I brake šābar מְתַלְּע֣וֹת the jaws mĕtallĕʿâ עַוָּ֑ל of the wicked, ʿawwāl וּ֝מִשִּׁנָּ֗יו out of his teeth. šēn אַשְׁלִ֥יךְ and plucked šālak טָֽרֶף׃ the spoil ṭerep

שָׁרְשִׁ֣י My root šereš פָת֣וּחַ spread out pātaḥ אֱלֵי by ʾēl מָ֑יִם the waters, mayim וְ֝טַ֗ל and the dew ṭal יָלִ֥ין lay all night lûn בִּקְצִירִֽי׃ upon my branch. qāṣîr

כְּ֭בוֹדִי My glory kābôd חָדָ֣שׁ fresh ḥādoš עִמָּדִ֑י in me, ʿimmād וְ֝קַשְׁתִּ֗י and my bow qešet בְּיָדִ֥י in my hand. yād תַחֲלִֽיף׃ was renewed ḥālap

לִֽי שָׁמְע֥וּ Unto me gave ear, šāmaʿ וְיִחֵ֑לּוּ and waited, yāḥal וְ֝יִדְּמ֗וּ and kept silence dāmam לְמ֣וֹ at lĕmô עֲצָתִֽי׃ my counsel. ʿēṣâ

אַחֲרֵ֣י After ʾaḥar דְ֭בָרִי my words dābār לֹ֣א lōʾ יִשְׁנ֑וּ they spake not again; šānâ וְ֝עָלֵ֗ימוֹ upon them. ʿal תִּטֹּ֥ף dropped nāṭap מִלָּתִֽי׃ and my speech millâ

וְיִֽחֲל֣וּ And they waited yāḥal כַמָּטָ֣ר for me as for the rain; māṭar לִ֑י וּ֝פִיהֶ֗ם their mouth pe פָּעֲר֥וּ and they opened pāʿar לְמַלְקֽוֹשׁ׃ wide for the latter rain. malqôš

אֶשְׂחַ֣ק I laughed śāḥaq אֲ֭לֵהֶם on ʾēl לֹ֣א not; lōʾ יַאֲמִ֑ינוּ them, they believed ʾāman וְא֥וֹר and the light ʾôr פָּ֝נַ֗י of my countenance pānîm לֹ֣א lōʾ יַפִּילֽוּן׃ they cast not down. nāpal

אֶֽבֲחַ֣ר I chose out bāḥar דַּרְכָּם֮ their way, derek וְאֵשֵׁ֪ב and sat yāšab רֹ֥אשׁ chief, rōš וְ֭אֶשְׁכּוֹן and dwelt šākan כְּמֶ֣לֶךְ as a king melek בַּגְּד֑וּד in the army, gĕdûd כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר as ʾăšer אֲבֵלִ֣ים the mourners. ʾābēl יְנַחֵֽם׃ one comforteth nāḥam
