וַיַּ֥עַן answered ʿānâ אִיּ֗וֹב But Job ʾiyyôb וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ and said, ʾāmar

מֶה How mâ עָזַ֥רְתָּ hast thou helped ʿāzar לְלֹא without lōʾ כֹ֑חַ power? kōaḥ ה֝וֹשַׁ֗עְתָּ savest yāšaʿ זְר֣וֹעַ thou the arm zĕrôaʿ לֹא no lōʾ עֹֽז׃ strength? ʿōz

מַה How mâ יָּ֭עַצְתָּ hast thou counselled yāʿaṣ לְלֹ֣א no lōʾ חָכְמָ֑ה wisdom? ḥokmâ וְ֝תֻשִׁיָּ֗ה the thing as it is? tûšiyyâ לָרֹ֥ב and hast thou plentifully rōb הוֹדָֽעְתָּ׃ declared yādaʿ

אֶת To ʾēt מִ֭י whom mî הִגַּ֣דְתָּ hast thou uttered nāgad מִלִּ֑ין words? millâ וְנִשְׁמַת spirit nĕšāmâ מִ֝י and whose mî יָצְאָ֥ה came yāṣāʾ מִמֶּֽךָּ׃ from thee? min

הָרְפָאִ֥ים Dead rāpāʾ יְחוֹלָ֑לוּ are formed ḥûl מִתַּ֥חַת from under taḥat מַ֝֗יִם the waters, mayim וְשֹׁכְנֵיהֶֽם׃ and the inhabitants thereof. šākan

עָר֣וֹם naked ʿārôm שְׁא֣וֹל Hell šĕʾôl נֶגְדּ֑וֹ before neged וְאֵ֥ין hath no ʾayin כְּ֝ס֗וּת covering. kĕsût לָֽאֲבַדּֽוֹן׃ him, and destruction ʾăbaddôn

נֹטֶ֣ה He stretcheth out nāṭâ צָפ֣וֹן the north ṣāpôn עַל over ʿal תֹּ֑הוּ the empty place, tōhû תֹּ֥לֶה hangeth tālâ אֶ֝֗רֶץ the earth ʾereṣ עַל upon ʿal בְּלִי nothing. bĕlîmâ מָֽה׃ mâ

צֹרֵֽר He bindeth up ṣārar מַ֥יִם the waters mayim בְּעָבָ֑יו in his thick clouds; ʿāb וְלֹא lōʾ נִבְקַ֖ע is not rent bāqaʿ עָנָ֣ן and the cloud ʿānān תַּחְתָּֽם׃ under them. taḥat

מְאַחֵ֥ז He holdeth back ʾāḥaz פְּנֵי the face pānîm כִסֵּ֑ה of his throne, kissēʾ פַּרְשֵׁ֖ז spreadeth paršēz עָלָ֣יו upon it. ʿal עֲנָנֽוֹ׃ his cloud ʿānān

חֹֽק with bounds, ḥōq חָ֭ג He hath compassed ḥûg עַל ʿal פְּנֵי the waters pānîm מָ֑יִם mayim עַד until ʿad תַּכְלִ֖ית come to an end. taklît א֣וֹר the day ʾôr עִם ʿim חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃ and night ḥōšek

עַמּוּדֵ֣י The pillars ʿammûd שָׁמַ֣יִם of heaven šāmayim יְרוֹפָ֑פוּ tremble rûp וְ֝יִתְמְה֗וּ and are astonished tāmah מִגַּעֲרָתֽוֹ׃ at his reproof. gĕʿārâ

בְּ֭כֹחוֹ with his power, kōaḥ רָגַ֣ע He divideth rāgaʿ הַיָּ֑ם the sea yām וּ֝בִתְובֻנָת֗וֹ and by his understanding tābûn מָ֣חַץ he smiteth through māḥaṣ רָֽהַב׃ the proud. rahab

בְּ֭רוּחוֹ By his spirit rûaḥ שָׁמַ֣יִם the heavens; šāmayim שִׁפְרָ֑ה he hath garnished šiprâ חֹֽלֲלָ֥ה hath formed ḥālal יָ֝ד֗וֹ his hand yād נָחָ֥שׁ serpent. nāḥoš בָּרִֽחַ׃ the crooked bārîaḥ

הֶן Lo, hēn אֵ֤לֶּה׀ these ʾēlle קְצ֬וֹת parts qāṣâ דְּרָכָ֗ו of his ways: derek וּמַה but how mâ שֵּׁ֣מֶץ little šemeṣ דָּ֭בָר a portion dābār נִשְׁמַע is heard šāmaʿ בּ֑וֹ וְרַ֥עַם of him? but the thunder raʿam גְּ֝בוּרֹתָ֗ו of his power gĕbûrâ מִ֣י who mî יִתְבּוֹנָֽן׃ can understand? bîn
