  1. וַ֭יַּעַן Then answered ʿānâ צֹפַ֥ר Zophar ṣôpar הַֽנַּעֲמָתִ֗י the Naamathite, naʿămātî וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ and said, ʾāmar
  2. הֲרֹ֣ב the multitude rōb דְּ֭בָרִים of words dābār לֹ֣א Should not lōʾ יֵעָנֶ֑ה be answered? ʿānâ וְאִם and should ʾim אִ֖ישׁ a man ʾîš שְׂפָתַ֣יִם full of talk śāpâ יִצְדָּֽק׃ be justified? ṣādaq
  3. בַּ֭דֶּיךָ Should thy lies bad מְתִ֣ים make men mat יַחֲרִ֑ישׁו hold their peace? ḥāraš וַ֝תִּלְעַ֗ג and when thou mockest, lāʿag וְאֵ֣ין shall no ʾayin מַכְלִֽם׃ man make thee ashamed? kālam
  4. וַ֭תֹּאמֶר For thou hast said, ʾāmar זַ֣ךְ pure, zak לִקְחִ֑י My doctrine leqaḥ וּ֝בַ֗ר clean bar הָיִ֥יתִי and I am hāyâ בְעֵינֶֽיךָ׃ in thine eyes. ʿayin
  5. וְֽאוּלָ֗ם But ʾûlām מִֽי oh יִתֵּ֣ן that would nātan אֱל֣וֹהַּ God ʾĕlôah דַּבֵּ֑ר speak, dābar וְיִפְתַּ֖ח and open pātaḥ שְׂפָתָ֣יו his lips śāpâ עִמָּֽךְ׃ against thee; ʿim
  6. וְיַגֶּד And that he would shew nāgad לְךָ֙׀ תַּֽעֲלֻמ֣וֹת thee the secrets taʿălummâ חָכְמָה֮ of wisdom, ḥokmâ כִּֽי that כִפְלַ֪יִם double kepel לְֽת֫וּשִׁיָּ֥ה to that which is! tûšiyyâ וְדַ֡ע Know yādaʿ כִּֽי therefore that יַשֶּׁ֥ה exacteth nāšâ לְךָ֥ אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ God ʾĕlôah מֵעֲוֺנֶֽךָ׃ of thee than thine iniquity ʿāwōn
  7. הַחֵ֣קֶר Canst thou by searching ḥēqer אֱל֣וֹהַ God? ʾĕlôah תִּמְצָ֑א find out māṣāʾ אִ֤ם ʾim עַד unto ʿad תַּכְלִ֖ית perfection? taklît שַׁדַּ֣י the Almighty šadday תִּמְצָֽא׃ canst thou find out māṣāʾ
  8. גָּבְהֵ֣י as high gōbah שָׁ֭מַיִם as heaven; šāmayim מַה what תִּפְעָ֑ל canst thou do? pāʿal עֲמֻקָּ֥ה deeper ʿāmōq מִ֝שְּׁא֗וֹל than hell; šĕʾôl מַה what תֵּדָֽע׃ canst thou know? yādaʿ
  9. אֲרֻכָּ֣ה thereof longer ʾārōk מֵאֶ֣רֶץ than the earth, ʾereṣ מִדָּ֑הּ The measure mad וּ֝רְחָבָ֗ה and broader rāḥāb מִנִּי than min יָֽם׃ the sea. yām
  10. אִם If ʾim יַחֲלֹ֥ף he cut off, ḥālap וְיַסְגִּ֑יר and shut up, sāgar וְ֝יַקְהִ֗יל or gather together, qāhal וּמִ֣י then who יְשִׁיבֶֽנּוּ׃ can hinder him? šûb
  11. כִּי For ה֭וּא he hûʾ יָדַ֣ע knoweth yādaʿ מְתֵי men: mat שָׁ֑וְא vain šow וַיַּרְא he seeth rāʾâ אָ֝֗וֶן wickedness ʾāwen וְלֹ֣א also; will he not lōʾ יִתְבּוֹנָֽן׃ then consider bîn
  12. וְאִ֣ישׁ man ʾîš נָ֭בוּב For vain nābab יִלָּבֵ֑ב would be wise, lābab וְעַ֥יִר colt. ʿayir פֶּ֝֗רֶא a wild ass's pereʾ אָדָ֥ם though man ʾādām יִוָּלֵֽד׃ be born yālad
  13. אִם If ʾim אַ֭תָּ֗ה thou ʾattâ הֲכִינ֣וֹתָ prepare kûn לִבֶּ֑ךָ thine heart, lēb וּפָרַשְׂתָּ֖ and stretch out pāraś אֵלָ֣יו toward him; ʾēl כַּפֶּֽיךָ׃ thine hands kap
  14. אִם If ʾim אָ֣וֶן iniquity ʾāwen בְּ֭יָדְךָ in thine hand, yād הַרְחִיקֵ֑הוּ put it far away, rāḥaq וְאַל and let not ʾal תַּשְׁכֵּ֖ן dwell šākan בְּאֹהָלֶ֣יךָ in thy tabernacles. ʾōhel עַוְלָֽה׃ wickedness ʿewel
  15. כִּי For אָ֤ז׀ then ʾāz תִּשָּׂ֣א shalt thou lift up nāśāʾ פָנֶ֣יךָ thy face pānîm מִמּ֑וּם without spot; mʾûm וְהָיִ֥יתָ yea, thou shalt be hāyâ מֻ֝צָ֗ק stedfast, yāṣaq וְלֹ֣א and shalt not lōʾ תִירָֽא׃ fear: yārēʾ
  16. כִּי Because אַ֭תָּה thou ʾattâ עָמָ֣ל misery, ʿāmāl תִּשְׁכָּ֑ח shalt forget šākaḥ כְּמַ֖יִם as waters mayim עָבְר֣וּ pass away: ʿābar תִזְכֹּֽר׃ remember zākar
  17. וּֽ֭מִצָּהֳרַיִם than the noonday; ṣōhar יָק֣וּם shall be clearer qûm חָ֑לֶד And age ḥeled תָּ֝עֻ֗פָה thou shalt shine forth, ʿûp כַּבֹּ֥קֶר as the morning. bōqer תִּהְיֶֽה׃ thou shalt be hāyâ
  18. וּֽ֭בָטַחְתָּ And thou shalt be secure, bāṭaḥ כִּי because יֵ֣שׁ there is yēš תִּקְוָ֑ה hope; tiqwâ וְ֝חָפַרְתָּ֗ yea, thou shalt dig ḥāpar לָבֶ֥טַח in safety. beṭaḥ תִּשְׁכָּֽב׃ thou shalt take thy rest šākab
  19. וְֽ֭רָבַצְתָּ Also thou shalt lie down, rābaṣ וְאֵ֣ין and none ʾayin מַחֲרִ֑יד shall make afraid; ḥārad וְחִלּ֖וּ shall make suit ḥālâ פָנֶ֣יךָ unto thee. pānîm רַבִּֽים׃ yea, many rab
  20. וְעֵינֵ֥י But the eyes ʿayin רְשָׁעִ֗ים of the wicked rāšāʿ תִּ֫כְלֶ֥ינָה shall fail, kālâ וּ֭מָנוֹס mānôs אָבַ֣ד and they shall not escape, ʾābad מִנְהֶ֑ם min וְ֝תִקְוָתָ֗ם and their hope tiqwâ מַֽפַּח the giving up mappāḥ נָֽפֶשׁ׃ of the ghost. nepeš
