וַיְהִ֥י came hāyâ דְבַר The word dābār יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֥י also unto ʾēl לֵאמֹֽר׃ me, saying, ʾāmar

לֹֽא Thou shalt not lōʾ תִקַּ֥ח take lāqaḥ לְךָ֖ אִשָּׁ֑ה thee a wife, ʾiššâ וְלֹֽא neither lōʾ יִהְי֤וּ shalt thou have hāyâ לְךָ֙ בָּנִ֣ים sons bēn וּבָנ֔וֹת or daughters bat בַּמָּק֖וֹם place. māqôm הַזֶּֽה׃ in this ze

כִּי For kî כֹ֣ה׀ thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֗ה the Lord yĕhōwâ עַל concerning ʿal הַבָּנִים֙ the sons bēn וְעַל and concerning ʿal הַבָּנ֔וֹת the daughters bat הַיִּלּוֹדִ֖ים that are born yālad בַּמָּק֣וֹם place, māqôm הַזֶּ֑ה in this ze וְעַֽל and concerning ʿal אִמֹּתָ֞ם their mothers ʾēm הַיֹּלְד֣וֹת that bare yālad אוֹתָ֗ם ʾēt וְעַל them, and concerning ʿal אֲבוֹתָ֛ם their fathers ʾāb הַמּוֹלִדִ֥ים that begat yālad אוֹתָ֖ם ʾēt בָּאָ֥רֶץ land; ʾereṣ הַזֹּֽאת׃ them in this zōt

מְמוֹתֵ֨י deaths; māmôt תַחֲלֻאִ֜ים of grievous taḥălûʾ יָמֻ֗תוּ They shall die mût לֹ֤א they shall not lōʾ יִסָּֽפְדוּ֙ be lamented; sāpad וְלֹ֣א neither lōʾ יִקָּבֵ֔רוּ shall they be buried; qābar לְדֹ֛מֶן they shall be as dung dōmen עַל upon ʿal פְּנֵ֥י the face pānîm הָאֲדָמָ֖ה of the earth: ʾădāmâ יִֽהְי֑וּ and they shall be hāyâ וּבַחֶ֤רֶב by the sword, ḥereb וּבָֽרָעָב֙ and by famine; rāʿāb יִכְל֔וּ consumed kālâ וְהָיְתָ֤ה hāyâ נִבְלָתָם֙ and their carcases nĕbēlâ לְמַאֲכָ֔ל shall be meat maʾăkāl לְע֥וֹף for the fowls ʿôp הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם of heaven, šāmayim וּלְבֶהֱמַ֥ת and for the beasts bĕhēmâ הָאָֽרֶץ׃ of the earth. ʾereṣ

כִּֽי For kî כֹ֣ה׀ thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֗ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ אַל not ʾal תָּבוֹא֙ Enter bôʾ בֵּ֣ית into the house bayit מַרְזֵ֔חַ of mourning, marzēaḥ וְאַל neither ʾal תֵּלֵ֣ךְ go hālak לִסְפּ֔וֹד to lament sāpad וְאַל nor ʾal תָּנֹ֖ד bemoan nûd לָהֶ֑ם כִּֽי them: for kî אָסַ֨פְתִּי I have taken away ʾāsap אֶת ʾēt שְׁלוֹמִ֜י my peace šālôm מֵאֵ֨ת from ʾēt הָעָ֤ם people, ʿam הַזֶּה֙ this ze נְאֻם saith nĕʾum יְהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt הַחֶ֖סֶד lovingkindness ḥēsēd וְאֶת ʾēt הָֽרַחֲמִֽים׃ and mercies. raḥam

וּמֵ֨תוּ shall die mût גְדֹלִ֧ים Both the great gādôl וּקְטַנִּ֛ים and the small qāṭān בָּאָ֥רֶץ land: ʾereṣ הַזֹּ֖את in this zōt לֹ֣א they shall not lōʾ יִקָּבֵ֑רוּ be buried, qābar וְלֹֽא neither lōʾ יִסְפְּד֣וּ shall lament sāpad לָהֶ֔ם hēm וְלֹ֣א for them, nor lōʾ יִתְגֹּדַ֔ד cut themselves, gādad וְלֹ֥א nor lōʾ יִקָּרֵ֖חַ make themselves bald for them: qāraḥ לָהֶֽם׃ hēm

וְלֹֽא Neither lōʾ יִפְרְס֥וּ shall tear pāras לָהֶ֛ם עַל for them in ʿal אֵ֖בֶל mourning, ʾēbel לְנַחֲמ֣וֹ to comfort nāḥam עַל them for ʿal מֵ֑ת the dead; mût וְלֹֽא neither lōʾ יַשְׁק֤וּ to drink šāqâ אוֹתָם֙ ʾēt כּ֣וֹס shall give them the cup kôs תַּנְחוּמִ֔ים of consolation tanḥûm עַל for ʿal אָבִ֖יו their father ʾāb וְעַל or for ʿal אִמּֽוֹ׃ their mother. ʾēm

וּבֵית into the house bayit מִשְׁתֶּ֥ה of feasting, mište לֹא Thou shalt not lōʾ תָב֖וֹא also go bôʾ לָשֶׁ֣בֶת to sit yāšab אוֹתָ֑ם with ʾēt לֶאֱכֹ֖ל them to eat ʾākal וְלִשְׁתּֽוֹת׃ and to drink. šātâ

כִּי֩ For kî כֹ֨ה thus kō אָמַ֜ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָאוֹת֙ of hosts, ṣābāʾ אֱלֹהֵ֣י the God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel; yiśrāʾēl הִנְנִ֨י Behold, hēn מַשְׁבִּ֜ית I will cause to cease šābat מִן out of min הַמָּק֥וֹם place māqôm הַזֶּ֛ה this ze לְעֵינֵיכֶ֖ם in your eyes, ʿayin וּבִֽימֵיכֶ֑ם and in your days, yôm ק֤וֹל the voice qôl שָׂשׂוֹן֙ of mirth, śāśôn וְק֣וֹל and the voice qôl שִׂמְחָ֔ה of gladness, śimḥâ ק֥וֹל the voice qôl חָתָ֖ן of the bridegroom, ḥātān וְק֥וֹל and the voice qôl כַּלָּֽה׃ of the bride. kallâ

וְהָיָ֗ה And it shall come to pass, hāyâ כִּ֤י when kî תַגִּיד֙ thou shalt shew nāgad לָעָ֣ם people ʿam הַזֶּ֔ה this ze אֵ֥ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַדְּבָרִ֖ים words, dābār הָאֵ֑לֶּה these ʾēlle וְאָמְר֣וּ and they shall say ʾāmar אֵלֶ֗יךָ unto ʾēl עַל thee, Wherefore ʿal מֶה֩ mâ דִבֶּ֨ר pronounced dābar יְהוָ֤ה hath the Lord yĕhōwâ עָלֵ֙ינוּ֙ against ʿal אֵ֣ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הָרָעָ֤ה evil raʿ הַגְּדוֹלָה֙ great gādôl הַזֹּ֔את this zōt וּמֶ֤ה us? or what mâ עֲוֹנֵ֙נוּ֙ our iniquity? ʿāwōn וּמֶ֣ה or what mâ חַטָּאתֵ֔נוּ our sin ḥaṭṭāʾâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer חָטָ֖אנוּ we have committed ḥāṭāʾ לַֽיהוָ֥ה against the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ our God? ʾĕlōhîm

וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ Then shalt thou say ʾāmar אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם unto ʾēl עַל֩ them, Because ʿal אֲשֶׁר ʾăšer עָזְב֨וּ have forsaken ʿāzab אֲבוֹתֵיכֶ֤ם your fathers ʾāb אוֹתִי֙ ʾēt נְאֻם me, saith nĕʾum יְהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיֵּלְכ֗וּ and have walked hālak אַֽחֲרֵי֙ after ʾaḥar אֱלֹהִ֣ים gods, ʾĕlōhîm אֲחֵרִ֔ים other ʾaḥēr וַיַּעַבְד֖וּם and have served ʿābad וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲו֣וּ them, and have worshipped šāḥâ לָהֶ֑ם וְאֹתִ֣י ʾēt עָזָ֔בוּ them, and have forsaken ʿāzab וְאֶת ʾēt תּוֹרָתִ֖י my law; tôrâ לֹ֥א me, and have not lōʾ שָׁמָֽרוּ׃ kept šāmar

וְאַתֶּ֛ם And ye ʾattâ הֲרֵעֹתֶ֥ם worse rāʿaʿ לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת have done ʿāśâ מֵאֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם than your fathers; ʾāb וְהִנְּכֶ֣ם for, behold, hēn הֹלְכִ֗ים ye walk hālak אִ֚ישׁ every one ʾîš אַֽחֲרֵי֙ after ʾaḥar שְׁרִר֣וּת the imagination šĕrîrût לִבּֽוֹ heart, lēb הָרָ֔ע of his evil raʿ לְבִלְתִּ֖י that they may not biltî שְׁמֹ֥עַ hearken šāmaʿ אֵלָֽי׃ unto me: ʾēl

וְהֵטַלְתִּ֣י Therefore will I cast ṭûl אֶתְכֶ֗ם ʾēt מֵעַל֙ you out of ʿal הָאָ֣רֶץ land ʾereṣ הַזֹּ֔את this zōt עַל into ʿal הָאָ֕רֶץ a land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁר֙ that ʾăšer לֹ֣א not, lōʾ יְדַעְתֶּ֔ם ye know yādaʿ אַתֶּ֖ם ye ʾattâ וַאֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם nor your fathers; ʾāb וַעֲבַדְתֶּם shall ye serve ʿābad שָׁ֞ם and there šām אֶת ʾēt אֱלֹהִ֤ים gods ʾĕlōhîm אֲחֵרִים֙ other ʾaḥēr יוֹמָ֣ם day yômām וָלַ֔יְלָה and night; layil אֲשֶׁ֛ר where ʾăšer לֹֽא I will not lōʾ אֶתֵּ֥ן shew nātan לָכֶ֖ם חֲנִינָֽה׃ you favour. ḥănînâ

לָכֵ֛ן Therefore, kēn הִנֵּֽה behold, hinnē יָמִ֥ים the days yôm בָּאִ֖ים come, bôʾ נְאֻם saith nĕʾum יְהוָ֑ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְלֹֽא that it shall no lōʾ יֵאָמֵ֥ר be said, ʾāmar עוֹד֙ more ʿôd חַי liveth, ḥay יְהוָ֔ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֧ר that ʾăšer הֶעֱלָ֛ה brought up ʿālâ אֶת ʾēt בְּנֵ֥י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מֵאֶ֥רֶץ out of the land ʾereṣ מִצְרָֽיִם׃ of Egypt; miṣrayim

כִּ֣י But, kî אִם ʾim חַי liveth, ḥay יְהוָ֗ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ʾăšer הֶעֱלָ֜ה brought up ʿālâ אֶת ʾēt בְּנֵ֤י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl מֵאֶ֣רֶץ from the land ʾereṣ צָפ֔וֹן of the north, ṣāpôn וּמִכֹּל֙ and from all kōl הָֽאֲרָצ֔וֹת the lands ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֥ר whither ʾăšer הִדִּיחָ֖ם he had driven nādaḥ שָׁ֑מָּה šām וַהֲשִֽׁבֹתִים֙ them: and I will bring them again šûb עַל into ʿal אַדְמָתָ֔ם their land ʾădāmâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer נָתַ֖תִּי I gave nātan לַאֲבוֹתָֽם׃ unto their fathers. ʾāb

הִנְנִ֨י Behold, hēn שֹׁלֵ֜חַ I will send šālaḥ לְדַוָּגִ֥ים fishers, dayyāg רַבִּ֛ים for many rab נְאֻם saith nĕʾum יְהוָ֖ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְדִיג֑וּם and they shall fish dîg וְאַֽחֲרֵי them; and after ʾaḥar כֵ֗ן kēn אֶשְׁלַח֙ will I send šālaḥ לְרַבִּ֣ים for many rab צַיָּדִ֔ים hunters, ṣayyād וְצָד֞וּם and they shall hunt ṣûd מֵעַ֤ל them from ʿal כָּל every kōl הַר֙ mountain, har וּמֵעַ֣ל and from ʿal כָּל every kōl גִּבְעָ֔ה hill, gibʿâ וּמִנְּקִיקֵ֖י and out of the holes nāqîq הַסְּלָעִֽים׃ of the rocks. selaʿ

כִּ֤י For kî עֵינַי֙ mine eyes ʿayin עַל upon ʿal כָּל all kōl דַּרְכֵיהֶ֔ם their ways: derek לֹ֥א they are not lōʾ נִסְתְּר֖וּ hid sātar מִלְּפָנָ֑י from my face, pānîm וְלֹֽא neither lōʾ נִצְפַּ֥ן hid ṣāpan עֲוֹנָ֖ם is their iniquity ʿāwōn מִנֶּ֥גֶד from neged עֵינָֽי׃ mine eyes. ʿayin

וְשִׁלַּמְתִּ֣י I will recompense šālam רִֽאשׁוֹנָ֗ה And first riʾšôn מִשְׁנֵ֤ה double; mišne עֲוֹנָם֙ their iniquity ʿāwōn וְחַטָּאתָ֔ם and their sin ḥaṭṭāʾâ עַ֖ל because ʿal חַלְּלָ֣ם they have defiled ḥālal אֶת ʾēt אַרְצִ֑י my land, ʾereṣ בְּנִבְלַ֤ת with the carcases nĕbēlâ שִׁקּֽוּצֵיהֶם֙ of their detestable šiqqûṣ וְתוֹעֲב֣וֹתֵיהֶ֔ם and abominable things. tôʿēba מָלְא֖וּ they have filled mālēʾ אֶת ʾēt נַחֲלָתִֽי׃ mine inheritance naḥălâ

יְהוָ֞ה O Lord, yĕhōwâ עֻזִּ֧י my strength, ʿōz וּמָעֻזִּ֛י and my fortress, māʿôz וּמְנוּסִ֖י and my refuge mānôs בְּי֣וֹם in the day yôm צָרָ֑ה of affliction, ṣārâ אֵלֶ֗יךָ unto ʾēl גּוֹיִ֤ם the Gentiles gôy יָבֹ֙אוּ֙ shall come bôʾ מֵֽאַפְסֵי thee from the ends ʾepes אָ֔רֶץ of the earth, ʾereṣ וְיֹאמְר֗וּ and shall say, ʾāmar אַךְ Surely ʾak שֶׁ֙קֶר֙ lies, šeqer נָחֲל֣וּ have inherited nāḥal אֲבוֹתֵ֔ינוּ our fathers ʾāb הֶ֖בֶל vanity, hebel וְאֵֽין and wherein no ʾayin בָּ֥ם מוֹעִֽיל׃ profit. yāʿal

הֲיַעֲשֶׂה make ʿāśâ לּ֥וֹ אָדָ֖ם Shall a man ʾādām אֱלֹהִ֑ים gods ʾĕlōhîm וְהֵ֖מָּה unto himself, and they hēm לֹ֥א no lōʾ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ gods? ʾĕlōhîm

לָכֵן֙ Therefore, kēn הִנְנִ֣י behold, hēn מֽוֹדִיעָ֔ם cause them to know, yādaʿ בַּפַּ֣עַם once paʿam הַזֹּ֔את I will this zōt אוֹדִיעֵ֥ם I will cause them to know yādaʿ אֶת ʾēt יָדִ֖י mine hand yād וְאֶת ʾēt גְּבֽוּרָתִ֑י and my might; gĕbûrâ וְיָדְע֖וּ and they shall know yādaʿ כִּֽי that kî שְׁמִ֥י my name šēm יְהוָֽה׃ The Lord. yĕhōwâ
