כִּ֛י When kî נַ֥עַר a child, naʿar יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל Israel yiśrāʾēl וָאֹהֲבֵ֑הוּ then I loved ʾāhab וּמִמִּצְרַ֖יִם out of Egypt. miṣrayim קָרָ֥אתִי him, and called qārāʾ לִבְנִֽי׃ my son bēn

קָרְא֖וּ they called qārāʾ לָהֶ֑ם כֵּ֚ן them, so kēn הָלְכ֣וּ they went hālak מִפְּנֵיהֶ֔ם from pānîm לַבְּעָלִ֣ים unto Baalim, baʿal יְזַבֵּ֔חוּ them: they sacrificed zābaḥ וְלַפְּסִלִ֖ים to graven images. pĕsîl יְקַטֵּרֽוּן׃ and burned incense qāṭar

וְאָנֹכִ֤י I ʾānōkî תִרְגַּ֙לְתִּי֙ taught tirgal לְאֶפְרַ֔יִם Ephraim ʾeprayim קָחָ֖ם also to go, taking lāqaḥ עַל them by ʿal זְרֽוֹעֹתָ֑יו their arms; zĕrôaʿ וְלֹ֥א not lōʾ יָדְע֖וּ but they knew yādaʿ כִּ֥י that kî רְפָאתִֽים׃ I healed them. rāpāʾ

בְּחַבְלֵ֨י them with cords ḥebel אָדָ֤ם of a man, ʾādām אֶמְשְׁכֵם֙ I drew māšak בַּעֲבֹת֣וֹת with bands ʿăbōt אַהֲבָ֔ה of love: ʾahăbâ וָאֶהְיֶ֥ה and I was hāyâ לָהֶ֛ם כִּמְרִ֥ימֵי to them as they that take off rûm עֹ֖ל the yoke ʿōl עַ֣ל on ʿal לְחֵיהֶ֑ם their jaws, lĕḥî וְאַ֥ט ʾaṭ אֵלָ֖יו unto them. ʾēl אוֹכִֽיל׃ and I laid meat ʾākal

לֹ֤א He shall not lōʾ יָשׁוּב֙ return šûb אֶל into ʾēl אֶ֣רֶץ the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַ֔יִם of Egypt, miṣrayim וְאַשּׁ֖וּר but the Assyrian ʾaššûr ה֣וּא hûʾ מַלְכּ֑וֹ shall be his king, melek כִּ֥י because kî מֵאֲנ֖וּ they refused māʾēn לָשֽׁוּב׃ to return. šûb

וְחָלָ֥ה shall abide ḥûl חֶ֙רֶב֙ And the sword ḥereb בְּעָרָ֔יו on his cities, ʿîr וְכִלְּתָ֥ה and shall consume kālâ בַדָּ֖יו his branches, bad וְאָכָ֑לָה and devour ʾākal מִֽמֹּעֲצ֖וֹתֵיהֶֽם׃ because of their own counsels. môʿēṣâ

וְעַמִּ֥י And my people ʿam תְלוּאִ֖ים are bent tālāʾ לִמְשֽׁוּבָתִ֑י to backsliding mĕšûbâ וְאֶל them to ʾēl עַל֙ the most High, ʿal יִקְרָאֻ֔הוּ from me: though they called qārāʾ יַ֖חַד none at all yaḥad לֹ֥א lōʾ יְרוֹמֵם׃ would exalt rûm

אֵ֞יךְ How ʾêk אֶתֶּנְךָ֣ shall I give thee up, nātan אֶפְרַ֗יִם Ephraim? ʾeprayim אֲמַגֶּנְךָ֙ shall I deliver māgan יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל thee, Israel? yiśrāʾēl אֵ֚יךְ how ʾêk אֶתֶּנְךָ֣ shall I make nātan כְאַדְמָ֔ה thee as Admah? ʾadmâ אֲשִֽׂימְךָ֖ shall I set śûm כִּצְבֹאיִ֑ם thee as Zeboim? ṣĕbōʾîm נֶהְפַּ֤ךְ is turned hāpak עָלַי֙ within ʿal לִבִּ֔י mine heart lēb יַ֖חַד together. yaḥad נִכְמְר֥וּ are kindled kāmar נִחוּמָֽי׃ me, my repentings niḥûm

לֹ֤א I will not lōʾ אֶֽעֱשֶׂה֙ execute ʿāśâ חֲר֣וֹן the fierceness ḥārôn אַפִּ֔י of mine anger, ʾap לֹ֥א I will not lōʾ אָשׁ֖וּב return šûb לְשַׁחֵ֣ת to destroy šāḥat אֶפְרָ֑יִם Ephraim: ʾeprayim כִּ֣י for kî אֵ֤ל God, ʾēl אָֽנֹכִי֙ I ʾānōkî וְלֹא and not lōʾ אִ֔ישׁ man; ʾĕnôš בְּקִרְבְּךָ֣ in the midst qereb קָד֔וֹשׁ the Holy One qādôš וְלֹ֥א of thee: and I will not lōʾ אָב֖וֹא enter bôʾ בְּעִֽיר׃ into the city. ʿîr

אַחֲרֵ֧י after ʾaḥar יְהוָ֛ה the Lord: yĕhōwâ יֵלְכ֖וּ They shall walk hālak כְּאַרְיֵ֣ה like a lion: ʾărî יִשְׁאָ֑ג he shall roar šāʾag כִּֽי when kî ה֣וּא he hûʾ יִשְׁאַ֔ג shall roar, šāʾag וְיֶחֶרְד֥וּ shall tremble ḥārad בָנִ֖ים then the children bēn מִיָּֽם׃ from the west. yām

יֶחֶרְד֤וּ They shall tremble ḥārad כְצִפּוֹר֙ as a bird ṣippôr מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם out of Egypt, miṣrayim וּכְיוֹנָ֖ה and as a dove yônâ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ out of the land ʾereṣ אַשּׁ֑וּר of Assyria: ʾaššûr וְהוֹשַׁבְתִּ֥ים and I will place yāšab עַל them in ʿal בָּתֵּיהֶ֖ם their houses, bayit נְאֻם saith nĕʾum יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord. yĕhōwâ

סְבָבֻ֤נִי compasseth sābab בְכַ֙חַשׁ֙ me about with lies, kaḥaš אֶפְרַ֔יִם Ephraim ʾeprayim וּבְמִרְמָ֖ה with deceit: mirmâ בֵּ֣ית and the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl וִֽיהוּדָ֗ה but Judah yĕhûdâ עֹ֥ד yet ʿôd רָד֙ ruleth rûd עִם with ʿim אֵ֔ל God, ʾēl וְעִם with ʿim קְדוֹשִׁ֖ים the saints. qādôš נֶאֱמָֽן׃ and is faithful ʾāman
