וַיְהִ֣י׀ And it came to pass hāyâ בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה year, šāne הַשִּׁשִּׁ֗ית in the sixth šiššî בַּשִּׁשִּׁי֙ in the sixth šiššî בַּחֲמִשָּׁ֣ה in the fifth ḥāmēš לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ of the month, ḥōdeš אֲנִי֙ I ʾănî יוֹשֵׁ֣ב sat yāšab בְּבֵיתִ֔י in mine house, bayit וְזִקְנֵ֥י and the elders zāqēn יְהוּדָ֖ה of Judah yĕhûdâ יוֹשְׁבִ֣ים sat yāšab לְפָנָ֑י before pānîm וַתִּפֹּ֤ל fell nāpal עָלַי֙ upon me. ʿal שָׁ֔ם there šām יַ֖ד me, that the hand yād אֲדֹנָ֥י of the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִֹֽה׃ God yĕhōwi

וָאֶרְאֶ֗ה Then I beheld, rāʾâ וְהִנֵּ֤ה and lo hinnē דְמוּת֙ a likeness dĕmût כְּמַרְאֵה as the appearance marʾe אֵ֔שׁ of fire: ʾēš מִמַּרְאֵ֥ה from the appearance marʾe מָתְנָ֛יו of his loins mōten וּלְמַ֖טָּה even downward, maṭṭâ אֵ֑שׁ fire; ʾēš וּמִמָּתְנָ֣יו and from his loins mōten וּלְמַ֔עְלָה even upward, maʿal כְּמַרְאֵה as the appearance marʾe זֹ֖הַר of brightness, zōhar כְּעֵ֥ין as the colour ʿayin הַחַשְׁמַֽלָה׃ of amber. ḥašmal

וַיִּשְׁלַח֙ And he put forth šālaḥ תַּבְנִ֣ית the form tabnît יָ֔ד of an hand, yād וַיִּקָּחֵ֖נִי and took lāqaḥ בְּצִיצִ֣ת me by a lock ṣîṣit רֹאשִׁ֑י of mine head; rōš וַתִּשָּׂ֣א lifted me up nāśāʾ אֹתִ֣י ʾēt ר֣וּחַ׀ and the spirit rûaḥ בֵּֽין between bên הָאָ֣רֶץ the earth ʾereṣ וּבֵ֣ין bên הַשָּׁמַ֡יִם and the heaven, šāmayim וַתָּבֵא֩ and brought bôʾ אֹתִ֨י ʾēt יְרוּשָׁלְַ֜מָה to Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim בְּמַרְא֣וֹת me in the visions marʾâ אֱלֹהִ֗ים of God ʾĕlōhîm אֶל to ʾēl פֶּ֜תַח the door petaḥ שַׁ֤עַר gate šaʿar הַפְּנִימִית֙ of the inner pĕnîmî הַפּוֹנֶ֣ה that looketh pānâ צָפ֔וֹנָה toward the north; ṣāpôn אֲשֶׁר where ʾăšer שָׁ֣ם šām מוֹשַׁ֔ב the seat môšāb סֵ֖מֶל of the image semel הַקִּנְאָ֥ה of jealousy, qinʾâ הַמַּקְנֶֽה׃ which provoketh to jealousy. qānâ

וְהִ֨נֵּה And, behold, hinnē שָׁ֔ם there, šām כְּב֖וֹד the glory kābôd אֱלֹהֵ֣י of the God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl כַּמַּרְאֶ֕ה according to the vision marʾe אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer רָאִ֖יתִי I saw rāʾâ בַּבִּקְעָֽה׃ in the plain. biqʿâ

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר Then said ʾāmar אֵלַ֔י he unto ʾēl בֶּן me, Son bēn אָדָ֕ם of man, ʾādām שָׂא lift up nāśāʾ נָ֥א now nāʾ עֵינֶ֖יךָ thine eyes ʿayin דֶּ֣רֶךְ the way derek צָפ֑וֹנָה toward the north. ṣāpôn וָאֶשָּׂ֤א So I lifted up nāśāʾ עֵינַי֙ mine eyes ʿayin דֶּ֣רֶךְ the way derek צָפ֔וֹנָה toward the north, ṣāpôn וְהִנֵּ֤ה and behold hinnē מִצָּפוֹן֙ northward ṣāpôn לְשַׁ֣עַר at the gate šaʿar הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ of the altar mizbēaḥ סֵ֛מֶל image semel הַקִּנְאָ֥ה of jealousy qinʾâ הַזֶּ֖ה this ze בַּבִּאָֽה׃ in the entry. bĕʾâ

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר He said ʾāmar אֵלַ֔י furthermore unto ʾēl בֶּן me, Son bēn אָדָ֕ם of man, ʾādām הֲרֹאֶ֥ה seest rāʾâ אַתָּ֖ה thou ʾattâ מָ֣הֵ֣ם what they mâ עֹשִׂ֑ים do? ʿāśâ תּוֹעֵב֨וֹת abominations tôʿēba גְּדֹל֜וֹת the great gādôl אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer בֵּֽית the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל׀ of Israel yiśrāʾēl עֹשִׂ֣ים committeth ʿāśâ פֹּ֗ה here, pō לְרָֽחֳקָה֙ that I should go far off rāḥaq מֵעַ֣ל from ʿal מִקְדָּשִׁ֔י my sanctuary? miqdoš וְעוֹד֙ thee yet again, ʿôd תָּשׁ֣וּב but turn šûb תִּרְאֶ֔ה thou shalt see rāʾâ תּוֹעֵב֖וֹת abominations. tôʿēba גְּדֹלֽוֹת׃ greater gādôl

וַיָּבֵ֥א And he brought bôʾ אֹתִ֖י ʾēt אֶל me to ʾēl פֶּ֣תַח the door petaḥ הֶֽחָצֵ֑ר of the court; ḥāṣēr וָאֶרְאֶ֕ה and when I looked, rāʾâ וְהִנֵּ֥ה behold hinnē חֹר hole ḥôr אֶחָ֖ד a ʾeḥād בַּקִּֽיר׃ in the wall. qîr

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר Then said ʾāmar אֵלַ֔י he unto ʾēl בֶּן me, Son bēn אָדָ֖ם of man, ʾādām חֲתָר dig ḥātar נָ֣א now nāʾ בַקִּ֑יר in the wall: qîr וָאֶחְתֹּ֣ר and when I had digged ḥātar בַּקִּ֔יר in the wall, qîr וְהִנֵּ֖ה behold hinnē פֶּ֥תַח door. petaḥ אֶחָֽד׃ a ʾeḥād

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר And he said ʾāmar אֵלָ֑י unto ʾēl בֹּ֤א me, Go in, bôʾ וּרְאֵה֙ and behold rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt הַתּוֹעֵב֣וֹת abominations tôʿēba הָרָע֔וֹת the wicked raʿ אֲשֶׁ֛ר that ʾăšer הֵ֥ם they hēm עֹשִׂ֖ים do here. ʿāśâ פֹּֽה׃ pō

וָאָבוֹא֮ So I went in bôʾ וָֽאֶרְאֶה֒ and saw; rāʾâ וְהִנֵּ֨ה and behold hinnē כָל every kōl תַּבְנִ֜ית form tabnît רֶ֤מֶשׂ of creeping things, remeś וּבְהֵמָה֙ beasts, bĕhēmâ שֶׁ֔קֶץ and abominable šeqeṣ וְכָל and all kōl גִּלּוּלֵ֖י the idols gillûl בֵּ֣ית of the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl מְחֻקֶּ֥ה pourtrayed ḥāqâ עַל upon ʿal הַקִּ֖יר the wall qîr סָבִ֥יב׀ round about. sābîb סָבִֽיב׃ sābîb

וְשִׁבְעִ֣ים them seventy šibʿîm אִ֣ישׁ men ʾîš מִזִּקְנֵ֣י of the ancients zāqēn בֵֽית of the house bayit יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וְיַאֲזַנְיָ֨הוּ Jaazaniah yaʾăzanyâ בֶן the son bēn שָׁפָ֜ן of Shaphan, šāpān עֹמֵ֤ד And there stood ʿāmad בְּתוֹכָם֙ and in the midst tāwek עֹמְדִ֣ים of them stood ʿāmad לִפְנֵיהֶ֔ם before pānîm וְאִ֥ישׁ with every man ʾîš מִקְטַרְתּ֖וֹ his censer miqṭeret בְּיָד֑וֹ in his hand; yād וַעֲתַ֥ר and a thick ʿātār עֲנַֽן cloud ʿānān הַקְּטֹ֖רֶת of incense qĕṭōret עֹלֶֽה׃ went up. ʿālâ

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר Then said ʾāmar אֵלַי֮ he unto ʾēl הֲרָאִ֣יתָ hast thou seen rāʾâ בֶן me, Son bēn אָדָם֒ of man, ʾādām אֲשֶׁ֨ר what ʾăšer זִקְנֵ֤י the ancients zāqēn בֵֽית of the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl עֹשִׂ֣ים do ʿāśâ בַּחֹ֔שֶׁךְ in the dark, ḥōšek אִ֖ישׁ every man ʾîš בְּחַדְרֵ֣י in the chambers ḥeder מַשְׂכִּית֑וֹ of his imagery? maśkît כִּ֣י for kî אֹמְרִ֗ים they say, ʾāmar אֵ֤ין us not; ʾayin יְהוָה֙ The Lord yĕhōwâ רֹאֶ֣ה seeth rāʾâ אֹתָ֔נוּ ʾēt עָזַ֥ב hath forsaken ʿāzab יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt הָאָֽרֶץ׃ the earth. ʾereṣ

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר He said ʾāmar אֵלָ֑י also unto ʾēl ע֣וֹד thee yet again, ʿôd תָּשׁ֥וּב me, Turn šûb תִּרְאֶ֛ה thou shalt see rāʾâ תּוֹעֵב֥וֹת abominations tôʿēba גְּדֹל֖וֹת greater gādôl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer הֵ֥מָּה they hēm עֹשִֽׂים׃ do. ʿāśâ

וַיָּבֵ֣א Then he brought bôʾ אֹתִ֗י for ʾēt אֶל me to ʾēl פֶּ֙תַח֙ the door petaḥ שַׁ֣עַר of the gate šaʿar בֵּית house bayit יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord's yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֖ר which ʾăšer אֶל toward ʾēl הַצָּפ֑וֹנָה the north; ṣāpôn וְהִנֵּה and, behold, hinnē שָׁם֙ there šām הַנָּשִׁ֣ים women ʾiššâ יֹֽשְׁב֔וֹת sat yāšab מְבַכּ֖וֹת weeping bākâ אֶת ʾēt הַתַּמּֽוּז׃ Tammuz. tammûz

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר Then said ʾāmar אֵלַ֖י he unto ʾēl הֲרָאִ֣יתָ me, Hast thou seen rāʾâ בֶן O son bēn אָדָ֑ם of man? ʾādām ע֣וֹד thee yet again, ʿôd תָּשׁ֥וּב turn šûb תִּרְאֶ֛ה thou shalt see rāʾâ תּוֹעֵב֥וֹת abominations than these. tôʿēba גְּדֹל֖וֹת greater gādôl מֵאֵֽלֶּה׃ ʾēlle

וַיָּבֵ֣א And he brought bôʾ אֹתִ֗י ʾēt אֶל me into ʾēl חֲצַ֣ר court ḥāṣēr בֵּית house, bayit יְהוָה֮ of the Lord's yĕhōwâ הַפְּנִימִית֒ the inner pĕnîmî וְהִנֵּה and, behold, hinnē פֶ֜תַח at the door petaḥ הֵיכַ֣ל of the temple hêkāl יְהוָ֗ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ בֵּ֤ין between bên הָֽאוּלָם֙ the porch ʾûlām וּבֵ֣ין bên הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ and the altar, mizbēaḥ כְּעֶשְׂרִ֥ים and twenty ʿeśrîm וַחֲמִשָּׁ֖ה about five ḥāmēš אִ֑ישׁ men, ʾîš אֲחֹ֨רֵיהֶ֜ם with their backs ʾāḥôr אֶל toward ʾēl הֵיכַ֤ל the temple hêkāl יְהוָה֙ of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וּפְנֵיהֶ֣ם and their faces pānîm קֵ֔דְמָה toward the east; qedem וְהֵ֛מָּה and they hēm מִשְׁתַּחֲוִיתֶ֥ם worshipped šāḥâ קֵ֖דְמָה toward the east. qedem לַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ the sun šemeš

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר Then he said ʾāmar אֵלַי֮ unto ʾēl הֲרָאִ֣יתָ me, Hast thou seen rāʾâ בֶן O son bēn אָדָם֒ of man? ʾādām הֲנָקֵל֙ Is it a light thing qālal לְבֵ֣ית to the house bayit יְהוּדָ֔ה of Judah yĕhûdâ מֵעֲשׂ֕וֹת that they commit ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt הַתּוֹעֵב֖וֹת the abominations tôʿēba אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer עָֽשׂוּ they commit ʿāśâ פֹ֑ה here? pō כִּֽי for kî מָלְא֨וּ they have filled mālēʾ אֶת ʾēt הָאָ֜רֶץ the land ʾereṣ חָמָ֗ס with violence, ḥāmās וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ and have returned šûb לְהַכְעִיסֵ֔נִי to provoke me to anger: kaʿas וְהִנָּ֛ם and, lo, hēn שֹׁלְחִ֥ים they put šālaḥ אֶת ʾēt הַזְּמוֹרָ֖ה the branch zĕmôrâ אֶל to ʾēl אַפָּֽם׃ their nose. ʾap

וְגַם also gam אֲנִי֙ Therefore will I ʾănî אֶעֱשֶׂ֣ה deal ʿāśâ בְחֵמָ֔ה in fury: ḥēmâ לֹֽא shall not lōʾ תָח֥וֹס spare, ḥûs עֵינִ֖י mine eye ʿayin וְלֹ֣א neither lōʾ אֶחְמֹ֑ל will I have pity: ḥāmal וְקָרְא֤וּ and though they cry qārāʾ בְאָזְנַי֙ in mine ears ʾōzen ק֣וֹל voice, qôl גָּד֔וֹל with a loud gādôl וְלֹ֥א will I not lōʾ אֶשְׁמַ֖ע hear them. šāmaʿ אוֹתָֽם׃ ʾēt
