וַיְהִ֥י came hāyâ דְבַר The word dābār יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֥י again unto ʾēl לֵאמֹֽר׃ me, saying, ʾāmar

בֶּן Son bēn אָדָ֑ם of man, ʾādām שְׁתַּ֣יִם two šĕnayim נָשִׁ֔ים women, ʾiššâ בְּנ֥וֹת the daughters bat אֵם mother: ʾēm אַחַ֖ת of one ʾeḥād הָיֽוּ׃ there were hāyâ

וַתִּזְנֶ֣ינָה And they committed whoredoms zānâ בְמִצְרַ֔יִם in Egypt; miṣrayim בִּנְעוּרֵיהֶ֖ן in their youth: nāʿûr זָנ֑וּ they committed whoredoms zānâ שָׁ֚מָּה there šām מֹעֲכ֣וּ pressed, māʿak שְׁדֵיהֶ֔ן were their breasts šad וְשָׁ֣ם and there šām עִשּׂ֔וּ they bruised ʿāśâ דַּדֵּ֖י the teats dad בְּתוּלֵיהֶֽן׃ of their virginity. bĕtûlîm

וּשְׁמוֹתָ֗ן And the names šēm אָהֳלָ֤ה of them Aholah ʾohŏlâ הַגְּדוֹלָה֙ the elder, gādôl וְאָהֳלִיבָ֣ה and Aholibah ʾohŏlîbâ אֲחוֹתָ֔הּ her sister: ʾāḥôt וַתִּֽהְיֶ֣ינָה and they were hāyâ לִ֔י וַתֵּלַ֖דְנָה mine, and they bare yālad בָּנִ֣ים sons bēn וּבָנ֑וֹת and daughters. bat וּשְׁמוֹתָ֕ן Thus their names; šēm שֹׁמְר֣וֹן Samaria šōmĕrôn אָהֳלָ֔ה Aholah, ʾohŏlâ וִירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם and Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim אָהֳלִיבָֽה׃ Aholibah. ʾohŏlîbâ

וַתִּ֥זֶן played the harlot zānâ אָהֳלָ֖ה And Aholah ʾohŏlâ תַּחְתָּ֑י when she was mine; taḥat וַתַּעְגַּב֙ and she doted ʿăgab עַֽל on ʿal מְאַהֲבֶ֔יהָ her lovers, ʾāhab אֶל on ʾēl אַשּׁ֖וּר the Assyrians ʾaššûr קְרוֹבִֽים׃ neighbours, qārôb

לְבֻשֵׁ֤י clothed lābaš תְכֵ֙לֶת֙ with blue, tĕkēlet פַּח֣וֹת captains peḥâ וּסְגָנִ֔ים and rulers, sāgān בַּח֥וּרֵי young men, bāḥûr חֶ֖מֶד of them desirable ḥemed כֻּלָּ֑ם all kōl פָּרָשִׁ֕ים horsemen pāroš רֹכְבֵ֖י riding upon rākab סוּסִֽים׃ horses. sûs

וַתִּתֵּ֤ן Thus she committed nātan תַּזְנוּתֶ֙יהָ֙ her whoredoms taznût עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם with ʿal מִבְחַ֥ר them the chosen mibḥār בְּנֵֽי men bēn אַשּׁ֖וּר of Assyria, ʾaššûr כֻּלָּ֑ם them, with all kōl וּבְכֹ֧ל and with all kōl אֲשֶׁר on whom ʾăšer עָֽגְבָ֛ה she doted: ʿăgab בְּכָל with all kōl גִּלּוּלֵיהֶ֖ם their idols gillûl נִטְמָֽאָה׃ she defiled herself. ṭāmēʾ

וְאֶת ʾēt תַּזְנוּתֶ֤יהָ she her whoredoms taznût מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ from Egypt: miṣrayim לֹ֣א Neither lōʾ עָזָ֔בָה left ʿāzab כִּ֤י for kî אוֹתָהּ֙ with ʾēt שָׁכְב֣וּ they lay šākab בִנְעוּרֶ֔יהָ in her youth nāʿûr וְהֵ֥מָּה her, and they hēm עִשּׂ֖וּ bruised ʿāśâ דַּדֵּ֣י the breasts dad בְתוּלֶ֑יהָ of her virginity, bĕtûlîm וַיִּשְׁפְּכ֥וּ and poured šāpak תַזְנוּתָ֖ם their whoredom taznût עָלֶֽיהָ׃ upon her. ʿal

לָכֵ֥ן Wherefore kēn נְתַתִּ֖יהָ I have delivered nātan בְּיַד her into the hand yād מְאַֽהֲבֶ֑יהָ of her lovers, ʾāhab בְּיַד֙ into the hand yād בְּנֵ֣י of the Assyrians, bēn אַשּׁ֔וּר ʾaššûr אֲשֶׁ֥ר whom ʾăšer עָגְבָ֖ה she doted. ʿăgab עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ upon ʿal

הֵמָּה֮ These hēm גִּלּ֣וּ discovered gālâ עֶרְוָתָהּ֒ her nakedness: ʿerwâ בָּנֶ֤יהָ her sons bēn וּבְנוֹתֶ֙יהָ֙ and her daughters, bat לָקָ֔חוּ they took lāqaḥ וְאוֹתָ֖הּ ʾēt בַּחֶ֣רֶב her with the sword: ḥereb הָרָ֑גוּ and slew hārag וַתְּהִי and she became hāyâ שֵׁם֙ famous šēm לַנָּשִׁ֔ים among women; ʾiššâ וּשְׁפוּטִ֖ים judgment upon her. šĕpôṭ עָ֥שׂוּ for they had executed ʿāśâ בָֽהּ׃

וַתֵּ֙רֶא֙ saw rāʾâ אֲחוֹתָ֣הּ And when her sister ʾāḥôt אָהֳלִיבָ֔ה Aholibah ʾohŏlîbâ וַתַּשְׁחֵ֥ת she was more corrupt šāḥat עַגְבָתָ֖הּ in her inordinate love ʿăgābâ מִמֶּ֑נָּה than min וְאֶת ʾēt תַּ֨זְנוּתֶ֔יהָ she, and in her whoredoms taznût מִזְּנוּנֵ֖י in whoredoms. zānûn אֲחוֹתָֽהּ׃ more than her sister ʾāḥôt

אֶל upon ʾēl בְּנֵי֩ the Assyrians bēn אַשּׁ֨וּר ʾaššûr עָגָ֜בָה She doted ʿăgab פַּח֨וֹת captains peḥâ וּסְגָנִ֤ים and rulers sāgān קְרֹבִים֙ neighbours, qārôb לְבֻשֵׁ֣י clothed lābaš מִכְל֔וֹל most gorgeously, miklôl פָּרָשִׁ֖ים horsemen pāroš רֹכְבֵ֣י riding upon rākab סוּסִ֑ים horses, sûs בַּח֥וּרֵי young men. bāḥûr חֶ֖מֶד of them desirable ḥemed כֻּלָּֽם׃ all kōl

וָאֵ֖רֶא Then I saw rāʾâ כִּ֣י that kî נִטְמָ֑אָה she was defiled, ṭāmēʾ דֶּ֥רֶךְ way, derek אֶחָ֖ד one ʾeḥād לִשְׁתֵּיהֶֽן׃ they both šĕnayim

וַתּ֖וֹסֶף And she increased yāsap אֶל ʾēl תַּזְנוּתֶ֑יהָ her whoredoms: taznût וַתֵּ֗רֶא for when she saw rāʾâ אַנְשֵׁי֙ men ʾîš מְחֻקֶּ֣ה pourtrayed ḥāqâ עַל upon ʿal הַקִּ֔יר the wall, qîr צַלְמֵ֣י the images ṣelem כַשְׂדִּ֔יים of the Chaldeans kaśdî חֲקֻקִ֖ים pourtrayed ḥāqaq בַּשָּׁשַֽׁר׃ with vermilion, šāšar

חֲגוֹרֵ֨י Girded ḥāgôr אֵז֜וֹר with girdles ʾēzôr בְּמָתְנֵיהֶ֗ם upon their loins, mōten סְרוּחֵ֤י exceeding sāraḥ טְבוּלִים֙ in dyed attire ṭābûl בְּרָ֣אשֵׁיהֶ֔ם upon their heads, rōš מַרְאֵ֥ה to look to, marʾe שָׁלִשִׁ֖ים of them princes šālîš כֻּלָּ֑ם all kōl דְּמ֤וּת after the manner dĕmût בְּנֵֽי of the Babylonians bēn בָבֶל֙ bābel כַּשְׂדִּ֔ים of Chaldea, kaśdî אֶ֖רֶץ the land ʾereṣ מוֹלַדְתָּֽם׃ of their nativity: môledet

וַתַּעְגְּבָ֥ she doted ʿăgab עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם upon ʿal לְמַרְאֵ֣ה And as soon as she saw marʾe עֵינֶ֑יהָ them with her eyes, ʿayin וַתִּשְׁלַ֧ח them, and sent šālaḥ מַלְאָכִ֛ים messengers mălʾok אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם unto ʾēl כַּשְׂדִּֽימָה׃ them into Chaldea. kaśdî

וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ came bôʾ אֵלֶ֤יהָ to ʾēl בְנֵֽי And the Babylonians bēn בָבֶל֙ bābel לְמִשְׁכַּ֣ב her into the bed miškāb דֹּדִ֔ים of love, dôd וַיְטַמְּא֥וּ and they defiled ṭāmēʾ אוֹתָ֖הּ ʾēt בְּתַזְנוּתָ֑ם her with their whoredom, taznût וַתִּ֨טְמָא and she was polluted ṭāmēʾ בָ֔ם וַתֵּ֥קַע was alienated from them. yāqaʿ נַפְשָׁ֖הּ with them, and her mind nepeš מֵהֶֽם׃ hēm

וַתְּגַל֙ So she discovered gālâ תַּזְנוּתֶ֔יהָ her whoredoms, taznût וַתְּגַ֖ל and discovered gālâ אֶת ʾēt עֶרְוָתָ֑הּ her nakedness: ʿerwâ וַתֵּ֤קַע was alienated yāqaʿ נַפְשִׁי֙ then my mind nepeš מֵֽעָלֶ֔יהָ from ʿal כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר her, like as ʾăšer נָקְעָ֥ה was alienated nāqaʿ נַפְשִׁ֖י my mind nepeš מֵעַ֥ל from ʿal אֲחוֹתָֽהּ׃ her sister. ʾāḥôt

וַתַּרְבֶּ֖ה Yet she multiplied rābâ אֶת ʾēt תַּזְנוּתֶ֑יהָ her whoredoms, taznût לִזְכֹּר֙ in calling to remembrance zākar אֶת ʾēt יְמֵ֣י the days yôm נְעוּרֶ֔יהָ of her youth, nāʿûr אֲשֶׁ֥ר wherein ʾăšer זָנְתָ֖ה she had played the harlot zānâ בְּאֶ֥רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ מִצְרָֽיִם׃ of Egypt. miṣrayim

וַֽתַּעְגְּבָ֔ה For she doted ʿăgab עַ֖ל upon ʿal פִּֽלַגְשֵׁיהֶ֑ם their paramours, pîlegeš אֲשֶׁ֤ר whose ʾăšer בְּשַׂר flesh bāśār חֲמוֹרִים֙ of asses, ḥămôr בְּשָׂרָ֔ם the flesh bāśār וְזִרְמַ֥ת and whose issue zirmâ סוּסִ֖ים of horses. sûs זִרְמָתָֽם׃ the issue zirmâ

וַֽתִּפְקְדִ֔י Thus thou calledst to remembrance pāqad אֵ֖ת ʾēt זִמַּ֣ת the lewdness zimmâ נְעוּרָ֑יִךְ of thy youth, nāʿûr בַּעְשׂ֤וֹת in bruising ʿāśâ מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ by the Egyptians miṣrayim דַּדַּ֔יִךְ thy teats dad לְמַ֖עַן for maʿan שְׁדֵ֥י the paps šad נְעוּרָֽיִךְ׃ of thy youth. nāʿûr

לָכֵ֣ן Therefore, kēn אָהֳלִיבָ֗ה O Aholibah, ʾohŏlîbâ כֹּֽה thus kō אָמַר֮ saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִה֒ God; yĕhōwi הִנְנִ֨י Behold, hēn מֵעִ֤יר I will raise up ʿûr אֶת ʾēt מְאַהֲבַ֙יִךְ֙ thy lovers ʾāhab עָלַ֔יִךְ against ʿal אֵ֛ת thee, from whom ʾēt אֲשֶׁר ʾăšer נָקְעָ֥ה is alienated, nāqaʿ נַפְשֵׁ֖ךְ thy mind nepeš מֵהֶ֑ם hēm וַהֲבֵאתִ֥ים and I will bring bôʾ עָלַ֖יִךְ them against ʿal מִסָּבִֽיב׃ thee on every side; sābîb

בְּנֵ֧י The Babylonians, bēn בָבֶ֣ל bābel וְכָל and all kōl כַּשְׂדִּ֗ים the Chaldeans, kaśdî פְּק֤וֹד Pekod, pĕqôd וְשׁ֙וֹעַ֙ and Shoa, šôaʿ וְק֔וֹעַ and Koa, qôaʿ כָּל all kōl בְּנֵ֥י the Assyrians bēn אַשּׁ֖וּר ʾaššûr אוֹתָ֑ם with ʾēt בַּח֨וּרֵי young men, bāḥûr חֶ֜מֶד of them desirable ḥemed פַּח֤וֹת captains peḥâ וּסְגָנִים֙ and rulers, sāgān כֻּלָּ֔ם them: all kōl שָֽׁלִשִׁים֙ great lords šālîš וּקְרוּאִ֔ים and renowned, qārāʾ רֹכְבֵ֥י of them riding upon rākab סוּסִ֖ים horses. sûs כֻּלָּֽם׃ all kōl

וּבָ֣אוּ And they shall come bôʾ עָלַ֡יִךְ against ʿal הֹ֠צֶן thee with chariots, hōṣen רֶ֤כֶב wagons, rekeb וְגַלְגַּל֙ and wheels, galgal וּבִקְהַ֣ל and with an assembly qāhāl עַמִּ֔ים of people, ʿam צִנָּ֤ה thee buckler ṣinnâ וּמָגֵן֙ and shield māgēn וְקוֹבַ֔ע and helmet qôbaʿ יָשִׂ֥ימוּ shall set śûm עָלַ֖יִךְ against ʿal סָבִ֑יב round about: sābîb וְנָתַתִּ֤י and I will set nātan לִפְנֵיהֶם֙ before pānîm מִשְׁפָּ֔ט judgment mišpāṭ וּשְׁפָט֖וּךְ them, and they shall judge šāpaṭ בְּמִשְׁפְּטֵיהֶֽם׃ thee according to their judgments. mišpāṭ

וְנָתַתִּ֨י And I will set nātan קִנְאָתִ֜י my jealousy qinʾâ בָּ֗ךְ וְעָשׂ֤וּ against thee, and they shall deal ʿāśâ אוֹתָךְ֙ with ʾēt בְּחֵמָ֔ה furiously ḥēmâ אַפֵּ֤ךְ thy nose ʾap וְאָזְנַ֙יִךְ֙ and thine ears; ʾōzen יָסִ֔ירוּ thee: they shall take away sûr וְאַחֲרִיתֵ֖ךְ and thy remnant ʾaḥărît בַּחֶ֣רֶב by the sword: ḥereb תִּפּ֑וֹל shall fall nāpal הֵ֗מָּה they hēm בָּנַ֤יִךְ thy sons bēn וּבְנוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ and thy daughters; bat יִקָּ֔חוּ shall take lāqaḥ וְאַחֲרִיתֵ֖ךְ and thy residue ʾaḥărît תֵּאָכֵ֥ל shall be devoured ʾākal בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ by the fire. ʾēš

וְהִפְשִׁיט֖וּךְ They shall also strip pāšaṭ אֶת thee out of ʾēt בְּגָדָ֑יִךְ thy clothes, beged וְלָקְח֖וּ and take away lāqaḥ כְּלֵ֥י jewels. kĕlî תִפְאַרְתֵּֽךְ׃ thy fair tipʾārâ

וְהִשְׁבַּתִּ֤י to cease šābat זִמָּתֵךְ֙ Thus will I make thy lewdness zimmâ מִמֵּ֔ךְ from min וְאֶת ʾēt זְנוּתֵ֖ךְ thee, and thy whoredom zĕnût מֵאֶ֣רֶץ from the land ʾereṣ מִצְרָ֑יִם of Egypt: miṣrayim וְלֹֽא so that thou shalt not lōʾ תִשְׂאִ֤י lift up nāśāʾ עֵינַ֙יִךְ֙ thine eyes ʿayin אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם unto ʾēl וּמִצְרַ֖יִם Egypt any more. miṣrayim לֹ֥א them, nor lōʾ תִזְכְּרִי remember zākar עֽוֹד׃ ʿôd

כִּ֣י For kî כֹ֤ה thus kō אָמַר֙ saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֔ה God; yĕhōwâ הִנְנִי֙ Behold, hēn נֹֽתְנָ֔ךְ I will deliver nātan בְּיַ֖ד thee into the hand yād אֲשֶׁ֣ר whom ʾăšer שָׂנֵ֑את thou hatest, śānēʾ בְּיַ֛ד into the hand yād אֲשֶׁר from whom ʾăšer נָקְעָ֥ה is alienated: nāqaʿ נַפְשֵׁ֖ךְ thy mind nepeš מֵהֶֽם׃ hēm

וְעָשׂ֨וּ And they shall deal ʿāśâ אוֹתָ֜ךְ with ʾēt בְּשִׂנְאָ֗ה thee hatefully, śinʾâ וְלָקְחוּ֙ and shall take away lāqaḥ כָּל all kōl יְגִיעֵ֔ךְ thy labour, yĕgîaʿ וַעֲזָב֖וּךְ and shall leave ʿāzab עֵירֹ֣ם thee naked ʿêrōm וְעֶרְיָ֑ה and bare: ʿeryâ וְנִגְלָה֙ shall be discovered, gālâ עֶרְוַ֣ת and the nakedness ʿerwâ זְנוּנַ֔יִךְ of thy whoredoms zānûn וְזִמָּתֵ֖ךְ both thy lewdness zimmâ וְתַזְנוּתָֽיִךְ׃ and thy whoredoms. taznût

עָשֹׂ֥ה I will do ʿāśâ אֵ֖לֶּה these ʾēlle לָ֑ךְ בִּזְנוֹתֵךְ֙ unto thee, because thou hast gone a whoring zānâ אַחֲרֵ֣י after ʾaḥar גוֹיִ֔ם the heathen, gôy עַ֥ל because ʿal אֲשֶׁר ʾăšer נִטְמֵ֖את thou art polluted ṭāmēʾ בְּגִלּוּלֵיהֶֽם׃ with their idols. gillûl

בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ in the way derek אֲחוֹתֵ֖ךְ of thy sister; ʾāḥôt הָלָ֑כְתְּ Thou hast walked hālak וְנָתַתִּ֥י therefore will I give nātan כוֹסָ֖הּ her cup kôs בְּיָדֵֽךְ׃ into thine hand. yād

כֹּ֤ה Thus kō אָמַר֙ saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִֹ֔ה God; yĕhōwi כּ֤וֹס cup kôs אֲחוֹתֵךְ֙ of thy sister's ʾāḥôt תִּשְׁתִּ֔י Thou shalt drink šātâ הָעֲמֻקָּ֖ה deep ʿāmōq וְהָרְחָבָ֑ה and large: rāḥāb תִּהְיֶ֥ה thou shalt be hāyâ לִצְחֹ֛ק laughed to scorn ṣĕḥōq וּלְלַ֖עַג and had in derision; laʿag מִרְבָּ֥ה much. mirbâ לְהָכִֽיל׃ it containeth kûl

שִׁכָּר֥וֹן with drunkenness šikkārôn וְיָג֖וֹן and sorrow, yāgôn תִּמָּלֵ֑אִי Thou shalt be filled mālēʾ כּ֚וֹס with the cup kôs שַׁמָּ֣ה of astonishment šammâ וּשְׁמָמָ֔ה and desolation, šĕmāmâ כּ֖וֹס with the cup kôs אֲחוֹתֵ֥ךְ of thy sister ʾāḥôt שֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃ Samaria. šōmĕrôn

וְשָׁתִ֨ית Thou shalt even drink šātâ אוֹתָ֜הּ ʾēt וּמָצִ֗ית it and suck out, māṣâ וְאֶת ʾēt חֲרָשֶׂ֛יהָ the sherds ḥereś תְּגָרֵ֖מִי and thou shalt break gāram וְשָׁדַ֣יִךְ thine own breasts: šad תְּנַתֵּ֑קִי thereof, and pluck off nātaq כִּ֚י for kî אֲנִ֣י I ʾănî דִבַּ֔רְתִּי have spoken dābar נְאֻ֖ם saith nĕʾum אֲדֹנָ֥י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִֽה׃ God. yĕhōwi

לָכֵ֗ן Therefore kēn כֹּ֤ה thus kō אָמַר֙ saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֔ה God; yĕhōwi יַ֚עַן Because yaʿan שָׁכַ֣חַתְּ thou hast forgotten šākaḥ אוֹתִ֔י ʾēt וַתַּשְׁלִ֥יכִי me, and cast šālak אוֹתִ֖י ʾēt אַחֲרֵ֣י me behind ʾaḥar גַוֵּ֑ךְ thy back, gǎw וְגַם also gam אַ֛תְּ thou ʾattâ שְׂאִ֥י therefore bear nāśāʾ זִמָּתֵ֖ךְ thy lewdness zimmâ וְאֶת ʾēt תַּזְנוּתָֽיִךְ׃ and thy whoredoms. taznût

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָה֙ The Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֔י moreover unto ʾēl בֶּן me; Son bēn אָדָ֕ם of man, ʾādām הֲתִשְׁפּ֥וֹט wilt thou judge šāpaṭ אֶֽת ʾēt אָהֳלָ֖ה Aholah ʾohŏlâ וְאֶת unto them ʾēt אָהֳלִיבָ֑ה and Aholibah? ʾohŏlîbâ וְהַגֵּ֣ד yea, declare nāgad לָהֶ֔ן אֵ֖ת ʾēt תוֹעֲבוֹתֵיהֶֽן׃ their abominations; tôʿēba

כִּ֣י That kî נִאֵ֗פוּ they have committed adultery, nāʾap וְדָם֙ and blood dām בִּֽידֵיהֶ֔ן in their hands, yād וְאֶת and with ʾēt גִּלּֽוּלֵיהֶ֖ן their idols gillûl נִאֵ֑פוּ have they committed adultery, nāʾap וְגַ֤ם and have also gam אֶת caused ʾēt בְּנֵיהֶן֙ their sons, bēn אֲשֶׁ֣ר whom ʾăšer יָֽלְדוּ they bare yālad לִ֔י הֶעֱבִ֥ירוּ unto me, to pass for them through ʿābar לָהֶ֖ם לְאָכְלָֽה׃ to devour ʾoklâ

ע֥וֹד Moreover ʿôd זֹ֖את this zōt עָ֣שׂוּ they have done ʿāśâ לִ֑י טִמְּא֤וּ unto me: they have defiled ṭāmēʾ אֶת ʾēt מִקְדָּשִׁי֙ my sanctuary miqdoš בַּיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַה֔וּא in the same hûʾ וְאֶת ʾēt שַׁבְּתוֹתַ֖י my sabbaths. šabbāt חִלֵּֽלוּ׃ and have profaned ḥālal

וּֽבְשַׁחֲטָ֤ם For when they had slain šāḥaṭ אֶת ʾēt בְּנֵיהֶם֙ their children bēn לְגִלּ֣וּלֵיהֶ֔ם to their idols, gillûl וַיָּבֹ֧אוּ then they came bôʾ אֶל into ʾēl מִקְדָּשִׁ֛י my sanctuary miqdoš בַּיּ֥וֹם day yôm הַה֖וּא the same hûʾ לְחַלְּל֑וֹ to profane ḥālal וְהִנֵּה it; and, lo, hinnē כֹ֥ה thus kō עָשׂ֖וּ have they done ʿāśâ בְּת֥וֹךְ in the midst tāwek בֵּיתִֽי׃ of mine house. bayit

וְאַ֗ף And furthermore, ʾap כִּ֤י that kî תִשְׁלַ֙חְנָה֙ ye have sent šālaḥ לַֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים for men ʾîš בָּאִ֖ים to come bôʾ מִמֶּרְחָ֑ק from far, merḥāq אֲשֶׁ֨ר whom ʾăšer מַלְאָ֜ךְ a messenger mălʾok שָׁל֤וּחַ sent; šālaḥ אֲלֵיהֶם֙ unto ʾēl וְהִנֵּה and, lo, hinnē בָ֔אוּ they came: bôʾ לַאֲשֶׁ֥ר for whom ʾăšer רָחַ֛צְתְּ thou didst wash rāḥaṣ כָּחַ֥לְתְּ thyself, paintedst kāḥal עֵינַ֖יִךְ thy eyes, ʿayin וְעָ֥דִית and deckedst ʿādâ עֶֽדִי׃ thyself with ornaments, ʿădî

וְיָשַׁבְתְּ֙ And satest yāšab עַל upon ʿal מִטָּ֣ה bed, miṭṭâ כְבוּדָּ֔ה a stately kĕbûddâ וְשֻׁלְחָ֥ן and a table šulḥān עָר֖וּךְ prepared ʿārak לְפָנֶ֑יהָ before pānîm וּקְטָרְתִּ֥י mine incense qĕṭōret וְשַׁמְנִ֖י and mine oil. šemen שַׂ֥מְתְּ thou hast set śûm עָלֶֽיהָ׃ it, whereupon ʿal

וְק֣וֹל And a voice qôl הָמוֹן֮ of a multitude hāmôn שָׁלֵ֣ו being at ease šālēw בָהּ֒ וְאֶל with her: and with ʾēl אֲנָשִׁים֙ the men ʾîš מֵרֹ֣ב of the common sort rōb אָדָ֔ם ʾādām מוּבָאִ֥ים brought bôʾ סָובָאִ֖ים Sabeans sĕbāʾî מִמִּדְבָּ֑ר from the wilderness, midbār וַֽיִּתְּנ֤וּ which put nātan צְמִידִים֙ bracelets ṣāmîd אֶל upon ʾēl יְדֵיהֶ֔ן their hands, yād וַעֲטֶ֥רֶת crowns ʿăṭārâ תִּפְאֶ֖רֶת and beautiful tipʾārâ עַל upon ʿal רָאשֵׁיהֶֽן׃ their heads. rōš

וָאֹמַ֕ר Then said I ʾāmar לַבָּלָ֖ה unto old bāle נִֽאוּפִ֑ים in adulteries, niʾup עַתָּ֛ Will they now ʿattâ יִזְנ֥הּ commit zānâ תַזְנוּתֶ֖הָ whoredoms taznût וָהִֽיא׃ with her, and she hûʾ

וַיָּב֣וֹא Yet they went in bôʾ אֵלֶ֔יהָ unto ʾēl כְּב֖וֹא her, as they go in bôʾ אֶל unto ʾēl אִשָּׁ֣ה a woman ʾiššâ זוֹנָ֑ה that playeth the harlot: zānâ כֵּ֣ן so kēn בָּ֗אוּ went they in bôʾ אֶֽל unto ʾēl אָֽהֳלָה֙ Aholah ʾohŏlâ וְאֶל and unto ʾēl אָ֣הֳלִיבָ֔ה Aholibah, ʾohŏlîbâ אִשֹּׁ֖ת women. ʾiššâ הַזִּמָּֽה׃ the lewd zimmâ

וַאֲנָשִׁ֣ים men, ʾîš צַדִּיקִ֗ם And the righteous ṣaddîq הֵ֚מָּה they hēm יִשְׁפְּט֣וּ shall judge šāpaṭ אֽוֹתְהֶ֔ם ʾēt מִשְׁפַּט֙ them after the manner mišpāṭ נֹֽאֲפ֔וֹת of adulteresses, nāʾap וּמִשְׁפַּ֖ט and after the manner mišpāṭ שֹׁפְכ֣וֹת of women that shed šāpak דָּ֑ם blood; dām כִּ֤י because kî נֹֽאֲפֹת֙ adulteresses, nāʾap הֵ֔נָּה they hēnnâ וְדָ֖ם and blood dām בִּֽידֵיהֶֽן׃ in their hands. yād

כִּ֛י For kî כֹּ֥ה thus kō אָמַ֖ר saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֑ה God; yĕhōwi הַעֲלֵ֤ה I will bring up ʿālâ עֲלֵיהֶם֙ upon ʿal קָהָ֔ל a company qāhāl וְנָתֹ֥ן them, and will give nātan אֶתְהֶ֖ן ʾēt לְזַעֲוָ֥ה them to be removed zaʿăwâ וְלָבַֽז׃ and spoiled. baz

וְרָגְמ֨וּ shall stone rāgam עֲלֵיהֶ֥ן ʿal אֶ֙בֶן֙ them with stones, ʾeben קָהָ֔ל And the company qāhāl וּבָרֵ֥א and dispatch bārāʾ אוֹתְהֶ֖ן ʾēt בְּחַרְבוֹתָ֑ם them with their swords; ḥereb בְּנֵיהֶ֤ם their sons bēn וּבְנֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ and their daughters, bat יַהֲרֹ֔גוּ they shall slay hārag וּבָתֵּיהֶ֖ן their houses bayit בָּאֵ֥שׁ with fire. ʾēš יִשְׂרֹֽפוּ׃ and burn up śārap

וְהִשְׁבַּתִּ֥י to cease šābat זִמָּ֖ה Thus will I cause lewdness zimmâ מִן out of min הָאָ֑רֶץ the land, ʾereṣ וְנִֽוַּסְּרוּ֙ may be taught yāsar כָּל that all kōl הַנָּשִׁ֔ים women ʾiššâ וְלֹ֥א not lōʾ תַעֲשֶׂ֖ינָה to do ʿāśâ כְּזִמַּתְכֶֽנָה׃ after your lewdness. zimmâ

וְנָתְנ֤וּ And they shall recompense nātan זִמַּתְכֶ֙נָה֙ your lewdness zimmâ עֲלֵיכֶ֔ן upon ʿal וַחֲטָאֵ֥י the sins ḥēṭĕʾ גִלּוּלֵיכֶ֖ן of your idols: gillûl תִּשֶּׂ֑אינָה you, and ye shall bear nāśāʾ וִידַעְתֶּ֕ם and ye shall know yādaʿ כִּ֥י that kî אֲנִ֖י I ʾănî אֲדֹנָ֥י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִֽה׃ God. yĕhōwi
