וַיַּ֤עַן answered ʿānâ מֹשֶׁה֙ And Moses mōše וַיֹּ֔אמֶר and said, ʾāmar וְהֵן֙ But, behold, hēn לֹֽא they will not lōʾ יַאֲמִ֣ינוּ believe ʾāman לִ֔י וְלֹ֥א me, nor lōʾ יִשְׁמְע֖וּ hearken šāmaʿ בְּקֹלִ֑י unto my voice: qôl כִּ֣י for kî יֹֽאמְר֔וּ they will say, ʾāmar לֹֽא hath not lōʾ נִרְאָ֥ה appeared rāʾâ אֵלֶ֖יךָ unto thee. ʾēl יְהוָֽה׃ The Lord yĕhōwâ

וַיֹּ֧אמֶר said ʾāmar אֵלָ֛יו unto ʾēl יְהוָ֖ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ מַזֶּה him, What that ze בְיָדֶ֑ךָ in thine hand? yād וַיֹּ֖אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar מַטֶּֽה׃ A rod. maṭṭe

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ And he said, ʾāmar הַשְׁלִיכֵ֣הוּ Cast šālak אַ֔רְצָה it on the ground. ʾereṣ וַיַּשְׁלִכֵ֥הוּ And he cast šālak אַ֖רְצָה it on the ground, ʾereṣ וַיְהִ֣י and it became hāyâ לְנָחָ֑שׁ a serpent; nāḥoš וַיָּ֥נָס fled nûs מֹשֶׁ֖ה and Moses mōše מִפָּנָֽיו׃ from before it. pānîm

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁ֔ה Moses, mōše שְׁלַח֙ Put forth šālaḥ יָֽדְךָ֔ thine hand, yād וֶֽאֱחֹ֖ז and take ʾāḥaz בִּזְנָב֑וֹ it by the tail. zānāb וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח And he put forth šālaḥ יָדוֹ֙ his hand, yād וַיַּ֣חֲזֶק and caught ḥāzaq בּ֔וֹ וַיְהִ֥י it, and it became hāyâ לְמַטֶּ֖ה a rod maṭṭe בְּכַפּֽוֹ׃ in his hand: kap

לְמַ֣עַן That maʿan יַֽאֲמִ֔ינוּ they may believe ʾāman כִּֽי that kî נִרְאָ֥ה hath appeared rāʾâ אֵלֶ֛יךָ unto thee. ʾēl יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֣י God ʾĕlōhîm אֲבֹתָ֑ם of their fathers, ʾāb אֱלֹהֵ֧י the God ʾĕlōhîm אַבְרָהָ֛ם of Abraham, ʾabrāhām אֱלֹהֵ֥י the God ʾĕlōhîm יִצְחָ֖ק of Isaac, yiṣḥāq וֵֽאלֹהֵ֥י and the God ʾĕlōhîm יַֽעֲקֹֽב׃ of Jacob, yaʿăqōb

וַיֹּאמֶר֩ said ʾāmar יְהוָ֨ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ ל֜וֹ ע֗וֹד furthermore ʿôd הָֽבֵא unto him, Put bôʾ נָ֤א now nāʾ יָֽדְךָ֙ thine hand yād בְּחֵיקֶ֔ךָ into thy bosom. ḥêq וַיָּבֵ֥א And he put bôʾ יָד֖וֹ his hand yād בְּחֵיק֑וֹ into his bosom: ḥêq וַיּ֣וֹצִאָ֔הּ and when he took yāṣāʾ וְהִנֵּ֥ה it out, behold, hinnē יָד֖וֹ his hand yād מְצֹרַ֥עַת leprous ṣāraʿ כַּשָּֽׁלֶג׃ as snow. šeleg

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar הָשֵׁ֤ב Put again. šûb יָֽדְךָ֙ thine hand yād אֶל into ʾēl חֵיקֶ֔ךָ thy bosom ḥêq וַיָּ֥שֶׁב And he put again; šûb יָד֖וֹ his hand yād אֶל into ʾēl חֵיק֑וֹ his bosom ḥêq וַיּֽוֹצִאָהּ֙ and plucked it out yāṣāʾ מֵֽחֵיק֔וֹ of his bosom, ḥêq וְהִנֵּה and, behold, hinnē שָׁ֖בָה it was turned again šûb כִּבְשָׂרֽוֹ׃ as his flesh. bāśār

וְהָיָה֙ And it shall come to pass, hāyâ אִם if ʾim לֹ֣א they will not lōʾ יַֽאֲמִ֣ינוּ believe ʾāman לָ֔ךְ וְלֹ֣א thee, neither lōʾ יִשְׁמְע֔וּ hearken šāmaʿ לְקֹ֖ל to the voice qôl הָאֹ֣ת sign, ʾôt הָֽרִאשׁ֑וֹן of the first riʾšôn וְהֶֽאֱמִ֔ינוּ that they will believe ʾāman לְקֹ֖ל the voice qôl הָאֹ֥ת sign. ʾôt הָאַֽחֲרֽוֹן׃ of the latter ʾaḥărôn

וְהָיָ֡ה And it shall come to pass, hāyâ אִם if ʾim לֹ֣א they will not lōʾ יַֽאֲמִ֡ינוּ believe ʾāman גַּם֩ also gam לִשְׁנֵ֨י two šĕnayim הָֽאֹת֜וֹת signs, ʾôt הָאֵ֗לֶּה these ʾēlle וְלֹ֤א neither lōʾ יִשְׁמְעוּן֙ hearken šāmaʿ לְקֹלֶ֔ךָ unto thy voice, qôl וְלָֽקַחְתָּ֙ that thou shalt take lāqaḥ מִמֵּימֵ֣י of the water mayim הַיְאֹ֔ר of the river, yĕʾōr וְשָֽׁפַכְתָּ֖ and pour šāpak הַיַּבָּשָׁ֑ה upon the dry yabbāšâ וְהָי֤וּ shall become hāyâ הַמַּ֙יִם֙ and the water mayim אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer תִּקַּ֣ח thou takest lāqaḥ מִן out of min הַיְאֹ֔ר the river yĕʾōr וְהָי֥וּ hāyâ לְדָ֖ם blood dām בַּיַּבָּֽשֶׁת׃ upon the dry yabbešet

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar מֹשֶׁ֣ה And Moses mōše אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוָה֮ the Lord, yĕhōwâ בִּ֣י O bî אֲדֹנָי֒ my Lord, ʾădōnāy לֹא֩ not lōʾ אִ֨ישׁ ʾĕnôš דְּבָרִ֜ים eloquent, dābār אָנֹ֗כִי I ʾānōkî גַּ֤ם neither gam מִתְּמוֹל֙ tĕmôl גַּ֣ם nor gam מִשִּׁלְשֹׁ֔ם heretofore, šilšôm גַּ֛ם gam מֵאָ֥ז since ʾāz דַּבֶּרְךָ thou hast spoken dābar אֶל unto ʾēl עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ thy servant: ʿebed כִּ֧י but kî כְבַד slow kābēd פֶּ֛ה of speech, pe וּכְבַ֥ד and of a slow kābēd לָשׁ֖וֹן tongue. lāšôn אָנֹֽכִי׃ I ʾānōkî

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָ֜ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלָ֗יו unto ʾēl מִ֣י him, Who mî שָׂ֣ם hath made śûm פֶּה֮ mouth? pe לָֽאָדָם֒ man's ʾādām א֚וֹ or ʾô מִֽי who mî יָשׂ֣וּם maketh śûm אִלֵּ֔ם the dumb, ʾillēm א֣וֹ or ʾô חֵרֵ֔שׁ deaf, ḥērēš א֥וֹ or ʾô פִקֵּ֖חַ the seeing, piqqēaḥ א֣וֹ or ʾô עִוֵּ֑ר the blind? ʿiwwēr הֲלֹ֥א have not lōʾ אָֽנֹכִ֖י I ʾānōkî יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord? yĕhōwâ

וְעַתָּ֖ה Now ʿattâ לֵ֑ךְ therefore go, hālak וְאָֽנֹכִי֙ and I ʾānōkî אֶֽהְיֶ֣ה will be hāyâ עִם with ʿim פִּ֔יךָ thy mouth, pe וְהֽוֹרֵיתִ֖יךָ and teach yārâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר thee what ʾăšer תְּדַבֵּֽר׃ thou shalt say. dābar

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar בִּ֣י O bî אֲדֹנָ֑י my Lord, ʾădōnāy שְֽׁלַֽח send, šālaḥ נָ֖א I pray thee, nāʾ בְּיַד by the hand yād תִּשְׁלָֽח׃ thou wilt send. šālaḥ

וַיִּֽחַר was kindled ḥārâ אַ֨ף And the anger ʾap יְהוָ֜ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּמֹשֶׁ֗ה against Moses, mōše וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ and he said, ʾāmar הֲלֹ֨א not lōʾ אַֽהֲרֹ֤ן Aaron ʾahărôn אָחִ֙יךָ֙ thy brother? ʾāḥ הַלֵּוִ֔י the Levite lēwiyyî יָדַ֕עְתִּי I know yādaʿ כִּֽי that kî דַבֵּ֥ר can speak dābar יְדַבֵּ֖ר well. dābar ה֑וּא he hûʾ וְגַ֤ם And also, gam הִנֵּה behold, hinnē הוּא֙ he hûʾ יֹצֵ֣א cometh forth yāṣāʾ לִקְרָאתֶ֔ךָ to meet qirʾâ וְרָֽאֲךָ֖ thee: and when he seeth rāʾâ וְשָׂמַ֥ח thee, he will be glad śāmēaḥ בְּלִבּֽוֹ׃ in his heart. lēb

וְדִבַּרְתָּ֣ And thou shalt speak dābar אֵלָ֔יו unto ʾēl וְשַׂמְתָּ֥ him, and put śûm אֶת ʾēt הַדְּבָרִ֖ים words dābār בְּפִ֑יו in his mouth: pe וְאָֽנֹכִ֗י and I ʾānōkî אֶֽהְיֶ֤ה will be hāyâ עִם with ʿim פִּ֙יךָ֙ thy mouth, pe וְעִם and with ʿim פִּ֔יהוּ his mouth, pe וְהֽוֹרֵיתִ֣י and will teach yārâ אֶתְכֶ֔ם you ʾēt אֵ֖ת ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֥ר what ʾăšer תַּֽעֲשֽׂוּן׃ ye shall do. ʿāśâ

וְדִבֶּר shall be thy spokesman dābar ה֥וּא And he hûʾ לְךָ֖ אֶל unto ʾēl הָעָ֑ם the people: ʿam וְהָ֤יָה and he shall be, hāyâ הוּא֙ he hûʾ יִֽהְיֶה shall be hāyâ לְּךָ֣ לְפֶ֔ה to thee instead of a mouth, pe וְאַתָּ֖ה and thou ʾattâ תִּֽהְיֶה shalt be hāyâ לּ֥וֹ לֵֽאלֹהִֽים׃ to him instead of God. ʾĕlōhîm

וְאֶת ʾēt הַמַּטֶּ֥ה rod maṭṭe הַזֶּ֖ה this ze תִּקַּ֣ח And thou shalt take lāqaḥ בְּיָדֶ֑ךָ in thine hand, yād אֲשֶׁ֥ר wherewith ʾăšer תַּֽעֲשֶׂה thou shalt do ʿāśâ בּ֖וֹ אֶת ʾēt הָֽאֹתֹֽת׃ signs. ʾôt

וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ went hālak מֹשֶׁ֜ה And Moses mōše וַיָּ֣שָׁב׀ and returned šûb אֶל to ʾēl יֶ֣תֶר Jethro yitrô חֹֽתְנ֗וֹ his father in law, ḥātan וַיֹּ֤אמֶר and said ʾāmar לוֹ֙ אֵ֣לְכָה unto him, Let me go, hālak נָּ֗א I pray thee, nāʾ וְאָשׁ֙וּבָה֙ and return šûb אֶל unto ʾēl אַחַ֣י my brethren ʾāḥ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer בְּמִצְרַ֔יִם in Egypt, miṣrayim וְאֶרְאֶ֖ה and see rāʾâ הַֽעוֹדָ֣ם whether they be yet ʿôd חַיִּ֑ים alive. ḥay וַיֹּ֧אמֶר said ʾāmar יִתְר֛וֹ And Jethro yitrô לְמֹשֶׁ֖ה to Moses, mōše לֵ֥ךְ Go hālak לְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ in peace. šālôm

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָ֤ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁה֙ Moses mōše בְּמִדְיָ֔ן in Midian, midyān לֵ֖ךְ Go, hālak שֻׁ֣ב return šûb מִצְרָ֑יִם into Egypt: miṣrayim כִּי for kî מֵ֙תוּ֙ are dead mût כָּל all kōl הָ֣אֲנָשִׁ֔ים the men ʾĕnôš הַֽמְבַקְשִׁ֖ים which sought bāqaš אֶת ʾēt נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃ thy life. nepeš

וַיִּקַּ֨ח took lāqaḥ מֹשֶׁ֜ה And Moses mōše אֶת ʾēt אִשְׁתּ֣וֹ his wife ʾiššâ וְאֶת ʾēt בָּנָ֗יו and his sons, bēn וַיַּרְכִּבֵם֙ and set rākab עַֽל them upon ʿal הַחֲמֹ֔ר an ass, ḥămôr וַיָּ֖שָׁב and he returned šûb אַ֣רְצָה to the land ʾereṣ מִצְרָ֑יִם of Egypt: miṣrayim וַיִּקַּ֥ח took lāqaḥ מֹשֶׁ֛ה and Moses mōše אֶת ʾēt מַטֵּ֥ה the rod maṭṭe הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים of God ʾĕlōhîm בְּיָדֽוֹ׃ in his hand. yād

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָה֮ And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁה֒ Moses, mōše בְּלֶכְתְּךָ֙ When thou goest hālak לָשׁ֣וּב to return šûb מִצְרַ֔יְמָה into Egypt, miṣrayim רְאֵ֗ה see rāʾâ כָּל all kōl הַמֹּֽפְתִים֙ those wonders môpēt אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer שַׂ֣מְתִּי I have put śûm בְיָדֶ֔ךָ in thine hand: yād וַֽעֲשִׂיתָ֖ם that thou do ʿāśâ לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm פַרְעֹ֑ה Pharaoh, parʿō וַֽאֲנִי֙ but I ʾănî אֲחַזֵּ֣ק will harden ḥāzaq אֶת ʾēt לִבּ֔וֹ his heart, lēb וְלֹ֥א that he shall not lōʾ יְשַׁלַּ֖ח go. šālaḥ אֶת let ʾēt הָעָֽם׃ the people ʿam

וְאָֽמַרְתָּ֖ And thou shalt say ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl פַּרְעֹ֑ה Pharaoh, parʿō כֹּ֚ה Thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ בְּנִ֥י my son, bēn בְכֹרִ֖י my firstborn: bĕkôr יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel yiśrāʾēl

וָֽאֹמַ֣ר And I say ʾāmar אֵלֶ֗יךָ unto ʾēl שַׁלַּ֤ח go, šālaḥ אֶת thee, Let ʾēt בְּנִי֙ my son bēn וְיַֽעַבְדֵ֔נִי that he may serve ʿābad וַתְּמָאֵ֖ן me: and if thou refuse māʾēn לְשַׁלְּח֑וֹ to let him go, šālaḥ הִנֵּה֙ behold, hinnē אָֽנֹכִ֣י I ʾānōkî הֹרֵ֔ג will slay hārag אֶת ʾēt בִּנְךָ֖ thy son, bēn בְּכֹרֶֽךָ׃ thy firstborn. bĕkôr

וַיְהִ֥י And it came to pass hāyâ בַדֶּ֖רֶךְ by the way derek בַּמָּל֑וֹן in the inn, mālôn וַיִּפְגְּשֵׁ֣הוּ met pāgaš יְהוָ֔ה that the Lord yĕhōwâ וַיְבַקֵּ֖שׁ him, and sought bāqaš הֲמִיתֽוֹ׃ to kill him. mût

וַתִּקַּ֨ח took lāqaḥ צִפֹּרָ֜ה Then Zipporah ṣippōrâ צֹ֗ר a sharp stone, ṣōr וַתִּכְרֹת֙ and cut off kārat אֶת ʾēt עָרְלַ֣ת the foreskin ʿorlâ בְּנָ֔הּ of her son, bēn וַתַּגַּ֖ע and cast nāgaʿ לְרַגְלָ֑יו at his feet, regel וַתֹּ֕אמֶר and said, ʾāmar כִּ֧י Surely kî חֲתַן husband ḥātān דָּמִ֛ים a bloody dām אַתָּ֖ה thou to me. ʾattâ לִֽי׃

וַיִּ֖רֶף So he let him go: rāpâ מִמֶּ֑נּוּ min אָ֚ז then ʾāz אָֽמְרָ֔ה she said, ʾāmar חֲתַ֥ן husband ḥātān דָּמִ֖ים A bloody dām לַמּוּלֹֽת׃ because of the circumcision. mûlâ

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶֽל to ʾēl אַהֲרֹ֔ן Aaron, ʾahărôn לֵ֛ךְ Go hālak לִקְרַ֥את to meet qirʾâ מֹשֶׁ֖ה Moses. mōše הַמִּדְבָּ֑רָה into the wilderness midbār וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ And he went, hālak וַֽיִּפְגְּשֵׁ֛הוּ and met pāgaš בְּהַ֥ר him in the mount har הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm וַיִּשַּׁק and kissed him. nāšaq לֽוֹ׃

וַיַּגֵּ֤ד told nāgad מֹשֶׁה֙ And Moses mōše לְאַֽהֲרֹ֔ן Aaron ʾahărôn אֵ֛ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl דִּבְרֵ֥י the words dābār יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֣ר who ʾăšer שְׁלָח֑וֹ had sent šālaḥ וְאֵ֥ת ʾēt כָּל him, and all kōl הָֽאֹתֹ֖ת the signs ʾôt אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer צִוָּֽהוּ׃ he had commanded him. ṣāwâ

וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ went hālak מֹשֶׁ֖ה And Moses mōše וְאַֽהֲרֹ֑ן and Aaron ʾahărôn וַיַּ֣אַסְפ֔וּ and gathered together ʾāsap אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl זִקְנֵ֖י the elders zāqēn בְּנֵ֥י of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel: yiśrāʾēl

וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר spake dābar אַֽהֲרֹ֔ן And Aaron ʾahărôn אֵ֚ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַדְּבָרִ֔ים the words dābār אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֥ר had spoken dābar יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁ֑ה Moses, mōše וַיַּ֥עַשׂ and did ʿāśâ הָֽאֹתֹ֖ת the signs ʾôt לְעֵינֵ֥י in the sight ʿayin הָעָֽם׃ of the people. ʿam

וַֽיַּאֲמֵ֖ן believed: ʾāman הָעָ֑ם And the people ʿam וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֡וּ and when they heard šāmaʿ כִּֽי that kî פָקַ֨ד had visited pāqad יְהוָ֜ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וְכִ֤י and that kî רָאָה֙ he had looked upon rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt עָנְיָ֔ם their affliction, ʿŏnî וַֽיִּקְּד֖וּ then they bowed their heads qādad וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוּֽוּ׃ and worshipped. šāḥâ
