וַיֹּ֤אמֶר spake ʾāmar יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁ֣ה Moses mōše וְאֶֽל ʾēl אַהֲרֹ֔ן and Aaron ʾahărôn בְּאֶ֥רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַ֖יִם of Egypt, miṣrayim לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

הַחֹ֧דֶשׁ month ḥōdeš הַזֶּ֛ה This ze לָכֶ֖ם רֹ֣אשׁ unto you the beginning rōš חֳדָשִׁ֑ים of months: ḥōdeš רִאשׁ֥וֹן the first riʾšôn הוּא֙ it hûʾ לָכֶ֔ם לְחָדְשֵׁ֖י month ḥōdeš הַשָּׁנָֽה׃ of the year to you. šāne

דַּבְּר֗וּ Speak dābar אֶֽל ye unto ʾēl כָּל all kōl עֲדַ֤ת the congregation ʿēdâ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar בֶּֽעָשֹׂ֖ר In the tenth ʿāśôr לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ month ḥōdeš הַזֶּ֑ה of this ze וְיִקְח֣וּ they shall take lāqaḥ לָהֶ֗ם אִ֛ישׁ to them every man ʾîš שֶׂ֥ה a lamb, śe לְבֵית according to the house bayit אָבֹ֖ת of fathers, ʾāb שֶׂ֥ה a lamb śe לַבָּֽיִת׃ for an house: bayit

וְאִם And if ʾim יִמְעַ֣ט too little māʿaṭ הַבַּיִת֮ the household bayit מִֽהְי֣וֹת be hāyâ מִשֶּׂה֒ for the lamb, śe וְלָקַ֣ח take lāqaḥ ה֗וּא let him hûʾ וּשְׁכֵנ֛וֹ and his neighbour šākēn הַקָּרֹ֥ב next qārôb אֶל unto ʾēl בֵּית֖וֹ his house bayit בְּמִכְסַ֣ת according to the number miksâ נְפָשֹׁ֑ת of the souls; nepeš אִ֚ישׁ every man ʾîš לְפִ֣י according to pe אָכְל֔וֹ his eating ʾōkel תָּכֹ֖סּוּ shall make your count kāsas עַל for ʿal הַשֶּֽׂה׃ the lamb. śe

שֶׂ֥ה Your lamb śe תָמִ֛ים without blemish, tāmîm זָכָ֥ר a male zākār בֶּן of the first bēn שָׁנָ֖ה year: šāne יִֽהְיֶ֣ה shall be hāyâ לָכֶ֑ם מִן out from min הַכְּבָשִׂ֥ים the sheep, kebeś וּמִן or from min הָֽעִזִּ֖ים the goats: ʿēz תִּקָּֽחוּ׃ ye shall take lāqaḥ

וְהָיָ֤ה hāyâ לָכֶם֙ לְמִשְׁמֶ֔רֶת And ye shall keep mišmeret עַ֣ד it up until ʿad אַרְבָּעָ֥ה the fourteenth ʾarbaʿ עָשָׂ֛ר ʿāśār י֖וֹם day yôm לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ month: ḥōdeš הַזֶּ֑ה of the same ze וְשָֽׁחֲט֣וּ shall kill šāḥaṭ אֹת֗וֹ ʾēt כֹּ֛ל and the whole kōl קְהַ֥ל assembly qāhāl עֲדַֽת of the congregation ʿēdâ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl בֵּ֥ין it in bên הָֽעַרְבָּֽיִם׃ the evening. ʿereb

וְלָֽקְחוּ֙ And they shall take lāqaḥ מִן of min הַדָּ֔ם the blood, dām וְנָֽתְנ֛וּ and strike nātan עַל on ʿal שְׁתֵּ֥י the two šĕnayim הַמְּזוּזֹ֖ת side posts mĕzûzâ וְעַל and on ʿal הַמַּשְׁק֑וֹף the upper door post mašqôp עַ֚ל of ʿal הַבָּ֣תִּ֔ים the houses, bayit אֲשֶׁר wherein ʾăšer יֹֽאכְל֥וּ they shall eat it. ʾākal אֹת֖וֹ ʾēt בָּהֶֽם׃

וְאָֽכְל֥וּ And they shall eat ʾākal אֶת ʾēt הַבָּשָׂ֖ר the flesh bāśār בַּלַּ֣יְלָה night, layil הַזֶּ֑ה in that ze צְלִי roast ṣālî אֵ֣שׁ with fire, ʾēš וּמַצּ֔וֹת and unleavened bread; maṣṣâ עַל with ʿal מְרֹרִ֖ים bitter mĕrōr יֹֽאכְלֻֽהוּ׃ they shall eat it. ʾākal

אַל not ʾal תֹּֽאכְל֤וּ Eat ʾākal מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ of min נָ֔א it raw, nāʾ וּבָשֵׁ֥ל at all bāšēl מְבֻשָּׁ֖ל nor sodden bāšal בַּמָּ֑יִם with water, mayim כִּ֣י kî אִם but ʾim צְלִי roast ṣālî אֵ֔שׁ fire; ʾēš רֹאשׁ֥וֹ his head rōš עַל with ʿal כְּרָעָ֖יו his legs, kārāʿ וְעַל and with ʿal קִרְבּֽוֹ׃ the purtenance thereof. qereb

וְלֹֽא And ye shall let nothing lōʾ תוֹתִ֥ירוּ it remain yātar מִמֶּ֖נּוּ of min עַד until ʿad בֹּ֑קֶר the morning; bōqer וְהַנֹּתָ֥ר and that which remaineth yātar מִמֶּ֛נּוּ of min עַד it until ʿad בֹּ֖קֶר the morning bōqer בָּאֵ֥שׁ with fire. ʾēš תִּשְׂרֹֽפוּ׃ ye shall burn śārap

וְכָכָה֮ And thus kākâ תֹּֽאכְל֣וּ shall ye eat ʾākal אֹתוֹ֒ ʾēt מָתְנֵיכֶ֣ם it; your loins mōten חֲגֻרִ֔ים girded, ḥāgar נַֽעֲלֵיכֶם֙ your shoes naʿal בְּרַגְלֵיכֶ֔ם on your feet, regel וּמַקֶּלְכֶ֖ם and your staff maqqēl בְּיֶדְכֶ֑ם in your hand; yād וַֽאֲכַלְתֶּ֤ם and ye shall eat ʾākal אֹתוֹ֙ ʾēt בְּחִפָּז֔וֹן it in haste: ḥippāzôn פֶּ֥סַח passover. pesaḥ ה֖וּא it hûʾ לַֽיהוָֽה׃ the Lord's yĕhōwâ

וְעָֽבַרְתִּ֣י For I will pass through ʿābar בְאֶֽרֶץ the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַיִם֮ of Egypt miṣrayim בַּלַּ֣יְלָה night, layil הַזֶּה֒ this ze וְהִכֵּיתִ֤י and will smite nākâ כָל all kōl בְּכוֹר֙ the firstborn bĕkôr בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַ֔יִם of Egypt, miṣrayim מֵֽאָדָ֖ם both man ʾādām וְעַד ʿad בְּהֵמָ֑ה and beast; bĕhēmâ וּבְכָל and against all kōl אֱלֹהֵ֥י the gods ʾĕlōhîm מִצְרַ֛יִם of Egypt miṣrayim אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֥ה I will execute ʿāśâ שְׁפָטִ֖ים judgment: šepeṭ אֲנִ֥י I ʾănî יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וְהָיָה֩ shall be hāyâ הַדָּ֨ם And the blood dām לָכֶ֜ם לְאֹ֗ת to you for a token ʾôt עַ֤ל upon ʿal הַבָּתִּים֙ the houses bayit אֲשֶׁ֣ר where ʾăšer אַתֶּ֣ם ye ʾattâ שָׁ֔ם šām וְרָאִ֙יתִי֙ and when I see rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt הַדָּ֔ם the blood, dām וּפָֽסַחְתִּ֖י I will pass pāsaḥ עֲלֵכֶ֑ם over ʿal וְלֹֽא shall not lōʾ יִֽהְיֶ֨ה be hāyâ בָכֶ֥ם נֶ֙גֶף֙ you, and the plague negep לְמַשְׁחִ֔ית upon you to destroy mašḥît בְּהַכֹּתִ֖י when I smite nākâ בְּאֶ֥רֶץ the land ʾereṣ מִצְרָֽיִם׃ of Egypt. miṣrayim

וְהָיָה֩ shall be hāyâ הַיּ֨וֹם day yôm הַזֶּ֤ה And this ze לָכֶם֙ לְזִכָּר֔וֹן unto you for a memorial; zikrôn וְחַגֹּתֶ֥ם and ye shall keep ḥāgag אֹת֖וֹ ʾēt חַ֣ג it a feast ḥag לַֽיהוָ֑ה to the Lord yĕhōwâ לְדֹרֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם throughout your generations; dôr חֻקַּ֥ת by an ordinance ḥuqqâ עוֹלָ֖ם for ever. ʿôlām תְּחָגֻּֽהוּ׃ ye shall keep it a feast ḥāgag

שִׁבְעַ֤ת Seven šebaʿ יָמִים֙ days yôm מַצּ֣וֹת unleavened bread; maṣṣâ תֹּאכֵ֔לוּ shall ye eat ʾākal אַ֚ךְ even ʾak בַּיּ֣וֹם day yôm הָֽרִאשׁ֔וֹן the first riʾšôn תַּשְׁבִּ֥יתוּ ye shall put away šābat שְּׂאֹ֖ר leaven śĕʾōr מִבָּֽתֵּיכֶ֑ם out of your houses: bayit כִּ֣י׀ for kî כָּל whosoever kōl אֹכֵ֣ל eateth ʾākal חָמֵ֗ץ leavened bread ḥāmēṣ וְנִכְרְתָ֞ה shall be cut off kārat הַנֶּ֤פֶשׁ soul nepeš הַהִוא֙ that hûʾ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֔ל from Israel. yiśrāʾēl מִיּ֥וֹם day yôm הָֽרִאשֹׁ֖ן from the first riʾšôn עַד until ʿad י֥וֹם day, yôm הַשְּׁבִעִֽי׃ the seventh šĕbîʿî

וּבַיּ֤וֹם day yôm הָֽרִאשׁוֹן֙ And in the first riʾšôn מִקְרָא convocation, miqrāʾ קֹ֔דֶשׁ an holy qōdeš וּבַיּוֹם֙ day yôm הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י and in the seventh šĕbîʿî מִקְרָא convocation miqrāʾ קֹ֖דֶשׁ an holy qōdeš יִֽהְיֶ֣ה there shall be hāyâ לָכֶ֑ם כָּל manner kōl מְלָאכָה֙ of work mĕlāʾkâ לֹֽא to you; no lōʾ יֵעָשֶׂ֣ה shall be done ʿāśâ בָהֶ֔ם אַ֚ךְ in them, save ʾak אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer יֵֽאָכֵ֣ל must eat, ʾākal לְכָל every kōl נֶ֔פֶשׁ man nepeš ה֥וּא that hûʾ לְבַדּ֖וֹ only bad יֵֽעָשֶׂ֥ה may be done of you. ʿāśâ לָכֶֽם׃

וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם֮ And ye shall observe šāmar אֶת ʾēt הַמַּצּוֹת֒ unleavened bread; maṣṣâ כִּ֗י for kî בְּעֶ֙צֶם֙ selfsame ʿeṣem הַיּ֣וֹם day yôm הַזֶּ֔ה in this ze הוֹצֵ֥אתִי have I brought yāṣāʾ אֶת ʾēt צִבְאֽוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם your armies ṣābāʾ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ out of the land ʾereṣ מִצְרָ֑יִם of Egypt: miṣrayim וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֞ם therefore shall ye observe šāmar אֶת ʾēt הַיּ֥וֹם day yôm הַזֶּ֛ה this ze לְדֹרֹֽתֵיכֶ֖ם in your generations dôr חֻקַּ֥ת by an ordinance ḥuqqâ עוֹלָֽם׃ for ever. ʿôlām

בָּֽרִאשֹׁ֡ן In the first riʾšôn בְּאַרְבָּעָה֩ ʾarbaʿ עָשָׂ֨ר on the fourteenth ʿāśār י֤וֹם day yôm לַחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ of the month ḥōdeš בָּעֶ֔רֶב at even, ʿereb תֹּֽאכְל֖וּ ye shall eat ʾākal מַצֹּ֑ת unleavened bread, maṣṣâ עַ֠ד until ʿad י֣וֹם day yôm הָֽאֶחָ֧ד the one ʾeḥād וְעֶשְׂרִ֛ים and twentieth ʿeśrîm לַחֹ֖דֶשׁ of the month ḥōdeš בָּעָֽרֶב׃ at even. ʿereb

שִׁבְעַ֣ת Seven šebaʿ יָמִ֔ים days yôm שְׂאֹ֕ר leaven śĕʾōr לֹ֥א shall there be no lōʾ יִמָּצֵ֖א found māṣāʾ בְּבָֽתֵּיכֶ֑ם in your houses: bayit כִּ֣י׀ for kî כָּל whosoever kōl אֹכֵ֣ל eateth ʾākal מַחְמֶ֗צֶת that which is leavened, ḥāmēṣ וְנִכְרְתָ֞ה shall be cut off kārat הַנֶּ֤פֶשׁ soul nepeš הַהִוא֙ even that hûʾ מֵֽעֲדַ֣ת from the congregation ʿēdâ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl בַּגֵּ֖ר whether he be a stranger, gēr וּבְאֶזְרַ֥ח or born ʾezrāḥ הָאָֽרֶץ׃ in the land. ʾereṣ

כָּל kōl מַחְמֶ֖צֶת leavened; ḥāmēṣ לֹ֣א nothing lōʾ תֹאכֵ֑לוּ Ye shall eat ʾākal בְּכֹל֙ in all kōl מוֹשְׁבֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם your habitations môšāb תֹּֽאכְל֖וּ shall ye eat ʾākal מַצּֽוֹת׃ unleavened bread. maṣṣâ

וַיִּקְרָ֥א called qārāʾ מֹשֶׁ֛ה Then Moses mōše לְכָל for all kōl זִקְנֵ֥י the elders zāqēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and said ʾāmar אֲלֵהֶ֑ם unto ʾēl מִֽשְׁכ֗וּ them, Draw out māšak וּקְח֨וּ and take lāqaḥ לָכֶ֥ם צֹ֛אן you a lamb ṣōn לְמִשְׁפְּחֹֽתֵיכֶ֖ם according to your families, mišpāḥâ וְשַֽׁחֲט֥וּ and kill šāḥaṭ הַפָּֽסַח׃ the passover. pesaḥ

וּלְקַחְתֶּ֞ם And ye shall take lāqaḥ אֲגֻדַּ֣ת a bunch ʾăguddâ אֵז֗וֹב of hyssop, ʾēzôb וּטְבַלְתֶּם֮ and dip ṭābal בַּדָּ֣ם in the blood dām אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer בַּסַּף֒ in the bason, sap וְהִגַּעְתֶּ֤ם and strike nāgaʿ אֶל ʾēl הַמַּשְׁקוֹף֙ the lintel mašqôp וְאֶל ʾēl שְׁתֵּ֣י and the two šĕnayim הַמְּזוּזֹ֔ת side posts mĕzûzâ מִן with min הַדָּ֖ם the blood dām אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בַּסָּ֑ף in the bason; sap וְאַתֶּ֗ם of you ʾattâ לֹ֥א lōʾ תֵֽצְא֛וּ shall go out yāṣāʾ אִ֥ישׁ and none ʾîš מִפֶּֽתַח at the door petaḥ בֵּית֖וֹ of his house bayit עַד until ʿad בֹּֽקֶר׃ the morning. bōqer

וְעָבַ֣ר will pass through ʿābar יְהוָה֮ For the Lord yĕhōwâ לִנְגֹּ֣ף to smite nāgap אֶת ʾēt מִצְרַיִם֒ the Egyptians; miṣrayim וְרָאָ֤ה and when he seeth rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt הַדָּם֙ the blood dām עַל upon ʿal הַמַּשְׁק֔וֹף the lintel, mašqôp וְעַ֖ל and on ʿal שְׁתֵּ֣י the two šĕnayim הַמְּזוּזֹ֑ת side posts, mĕzûzâ וּפָסַ֤ח will pass pāsaḥ יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ עַל over ʿal הַפֶּ֔תַח the door, petaḥ וְלֹ֤א and will not lōʾ יִתֵּן֙ suffer nātan הַמַּשְׁחִ֔ית the destroyer šāḥat לָבֹ֥א to come in bôʾ אֶל unto ʾēl בָּֽתֵּיכֶ֖ם your houses bayit לִנְגֹּֽף׃ to smite nāgap

וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֖ם And ye shall observe šāmar אֶת ʾēt הַדָּבָ֣ר thing dābār הַזֶּ֑ה this ze לְחָק for an ordinance ḥōq לְךָ֥ וּלְבָנֶ֖יךָ to thee and to thy sons bēn עַד for ʿad עוֹלָֽם׃ ever. ʿôlām

וְהָיָ֞ה And it shall come to pass, hāyâ כִּֽי when kî תָבֹ֣אוּ ye be come bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl הָאָ֗רֶץ the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer יִתֵּ֧ן will give nātan יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ לָכֶ֖ם כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר you, according as ʾăšer דִּבֵּ֑ר he hath promised, dābar וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֖ם that ye shall keep šāmar אֶת ʾēt הָֽעֲבֹדָ֥ה service. ʿăbōdâ הַזֹּֽאת׃ this zōt

וְהָיָ֕ה And it shall come to pass, hāyâ כִּֽי when kî יֹאמְר֥וּ shall say ʾāmar אֲלֵיכֶ֖ם unto ʾēl בְּנֵיכֶ֑ם your children bēn מָ֛ה you, What mâ הָֽעֲבֹדָ֥ה service? ʿăbōdâ הַזֹּ֖את mean ye by this zōt לָכֶֽם׃

וַֽאֲמַרְתֶּ֡ם That ye shall say, ʾāmar זֶֽבַח the sacrifice zebaḥ פֶּ֨סַח passover, pesaḥ ה֜וּא It hûʾ לַֽיהוָ֗ה of the Lord's yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֣ר who ʾăšer פָּ֠סַח passed pāsaḥ עַל over ʿal בָּתֵּ֤י the houses bayit בְנֵֽי of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl בְּמִצְרַ֔יִם in Egypt, miṣrayim בְּנָגְפּ֥וֹ when he smote nāgap אֶת ʾēt מִצְרַ֖יִם the Egyptians, miṣrayim וְאֶת ʾēt בָּתֵּ֣ינוּ our houses. bayit הִצִּ֑יל and delivered nāṣal וַיִּקֹּ֥ד bowed the head qādad הָעָ֖ם And the people ʿam וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוּֽוּ׃ and worshipped. šāḥâ

וַיֵּֽלְכ֥וּ went away, hālak וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֖וּ and did ʿāśâ בְּנֵ֣י And the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר as ʾăšer צִוָּ֧ה had commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶׁ֥ה Moses mōše וְאַֽהֲרֹ֖ן and Aaron, ʾahărôn כֵּ֥ן so kēn עָשֽׂוּ׃ did they. ʿāśâ

וַיְהִ֣י׀ And it came to pass, hāyâ בַּֽחֲצִ֣י that at midnight ḥēṣî הַלַּ֗יְלָה layil וַֽיהוָה֮ the Lord yĕhōwâ הִכָּ֣ה smote nākâ כָל all kōl בְּכוֹר֮ the firstborn bĕkôr בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַיִם֒ of Egypt, miṣrayim מִבְּכֹ֤ר from the firstborn bĕkôr פַּרְעֹה֙ of Pharaoh parʿō הַיֹּשֵׁ֣ב that sat yāšab עַל on ʿal כִּסְא֔וֹ his throne kissēʾ עַ֚ד unto ʿad בְּכ֣וֹר the firstborn bĕkôr הַשְּׁבִ֔י of the captive šĕbî אֲשֶׁ֖ר that ʾăšer בְּבֵ֣ית in the dungeon; bayit הַבּ֑וֹר bôr וְכֹ֖ל and all kōl בְּכ֥וֹר the firstborn bĕkôr בְּהֵמָֽה׃ of cattle. bĕhēmâ

וַיָּ֨קָם rose up qûm פַּרְעֹ֜ה And Pharaoh parʿō לַ֗יְלָה in the night, layil ה֤וּא he, hûʾ וְכָל and all kōl עֲבָדָיו֙ his servants, ʿebed וְכָל and all kōl מִצְרַ֔יִם the Egyptians; miṣrayim וַתְּהִ֛י and there was hāyâ צְעָקָ֥ה cry ṣaʿăqâ גְדֹלָ֖ה a great gādôl בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם in Egypt; miṣrayim כִּֽי for kî אֵ֣ין not ʾayin בַּ֔יִת a house bayit אֲשֶׁ֥ר ʾăšer אֵֽין not ʾayin שָׁ֖ם where šām מֵֽת׃ one dead. mût

וַיִּקְרָא֩ And he called qārāʾ לְמֹשֶׁ֨ה for Moses mōše וּֽלְאַהֲרֹ֜ן and Aaron ʾahărôn לַ֗יְלָה by night, layil וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ and said, ʾāmar ק֤וּמוּ Rise up, qûm צְּאוּ֙ get you forth yāṣāʾ מִתּ֣וֹךְ from among tāwek עַמִּ֔י my people, ʿam גַּם both gam אַתֶּ֖ם ye ʾattâ גַּם and gam בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel; yiśrāʾēl וּלְכ֛וּ and go, hālak עִבְד֥וּ serve ʿābad אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֖ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ כְּדַבֶּרְכֶֽם׃ as ye have said. dābar

גַּם Also gam צֹֽאנְכֶ֨ם your flocks ṣōn גַּם and gam בְּקַרְכֶ֥ם your herds, bāqār קְח֛וּ take lāqaḥ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer דִּבַּרְתֶּ֖ם ye have said, dābar וָלֵ֑כוּ and be gone; hālak וּבֵֽרַכְתֶּ֖ם and bless bārak גַּם me also. gam אֹתִֽי׃ ʾēt

וַתֶּֽחֱזַ֤ק were urgent ḥāzaq מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ And the Egyptians miṣrayim עַל upon ʿal הָעָ֔ם the people, ʿam לְמַהֵ֖ר in haste; māhar לְשַׁלְּחָ֣ם that they might send šālaḥ מִן them out of min הָאָ֑רֶץ the land ʾereṣ כִּ֥י for kî אָֽמְר֖וּ they said, ʾāmar כֻּלָּ֥נוּ We all kōl מֵתִֽים׃ dead mût

וַיִּשָּׂ֥א took nāśāʾ הָעָ֛ם And the people ʿam אֶת ʾēt בְּצֵק֖וֹ their dough bāṣēq טֶ֣רֶם before ṭerem יֶחְמָ֑ץ it was leavened, ḥāmēṣ מִשְׁאֲרֹתָ֛ם their kneadingtroughs mišʾeret צְרֻרֹ֥ת being bound up ṣārar בְּשִׂמְלֹתָ֖ם in their clothes śimlâ עַל upon ʿal שִׁכְמָֽם׃ their shoulders. šĕkem

וּבְנֵֽי And the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl עָשׂ֖וּ did ʿāśâ כִּדְבַ֣ר according to the word dābār מֹשֶׁ֑ה of Moses; mōše וַֽיִּשְׁאֲלוּ֙ and they borrowed šāʾal מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם of the Egyptians miṣrayim כְּלֵי jewels kĕlî כֶ֛סֶף of silver, kesep וּכְלֵ֥י and jewels kĕlî זָהָ֖ב of gold, zāhāb וּשְׂמָלֹֽת׃ and raiment: śimlâ

וַֽיהוָ֞ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ נָתַ֨ן gave nātan אֶת ʾēt חֵ֥ן favour ḥēn הָעָ֛ם the people ʿam בְּעֵינֵ֥י in the sight ʿayin מִצְרַ֖יִם of the Egyptians, miṣrayim וַיַּשְׁאִל֑וּם so that they lent šāʾal וַֽיְנַצְּל֖וּ unto them And they spoiled nāṣal אֶת ʾēt מִצְרָֽיִם׃ the Egyptians. miṣrayim

וַיִּסְע֧וּ journeyed nāsaʿ בְנֵֽי And the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מֵֽרַעְמְסֵ֖ס from Rameses raʿmĕsēs סֻכֹּ֑תָה to Succoth, sukkôt כְּשֵׁשׁ about six šēš מֵא֨וֹת hundred mēʾâ אֶ֧לֶף thousand ʾelep רַגְלִ֛י on foot raglî הַגְּבָרִ֖ים men, geber לְבַ֥ד beside bad מִטָּֽף׃ children. ṭap

וְגַם also gam עֵ֥רֶב And a mixed ʿēreb רַ֖ב multitude rab עָלָ֣ה went up ʿālâ אִתָּ֑ם with ʾēt וְצֹ֣אן them; and flocks, ṣōn וּבָקָ֔ר and herds, bāqār מִקְנֶ֖ה cattle. miqne כָּבֵ֥ד much kābēd מְאֹֽד׃ very mĕʾōd

וַיֹּאפ֨וּ And they baked ʾāpâ אֶת of ʾēt הַבָּצֵ֜ק the dough bāṣēq אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer הוֹצִ֧יאוּ they brought forth yāṣāʾ מִמִּצְרַ֛יִם out of Egypt, miṣrayim עֻגֹ֥ת cakes ʿuggâ מַצּ֖וֹת unleavened maṣṣâ כִּ֣י for kî לֹ֣א lōʾ חָמֵ֑ץ it was not leavened; ḥāmēṣ כִּֽי because kî גֹרְשׁ֣וּ they were thrust out gāraš מִמִּצְרַ֗יִם of Egypt, miṣrayim וְלֹ֤א not lōʾ יָֽכְלוּ֙ and could yākōl לְהִתְמַהְמֵ֔הַּ tarry, māhah וְגַם gam צֵדָ֖ה for themselves any victual. ṣêdâ לֹֽא neither lōʾ עָשׂ֥וּ had they prepared ʿāśâ לָהֶֽם׃

וּמוֹשַׁב֙ Now the sojourning môšāb בְּנֵ֣י of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁ֥ר who ʾăšer יָֽשְׁב֖וּ dwelt yāšab בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם in Egypt, miṣrayim שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים and thirty šĕlôšîm שָׁנָ֔ה šāne וְאַרְבַּ֥ע four ʾarbaʿ מֵא֖וֹת hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָֽה׃ years. šāne

וַיְהִ֗י And it came to pass hāyâ מִקֵּץ֙ at the end qēṣ שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים and thirty šĕlôšîm שָׁנָ֔ה šāne וְאַרְבַּ֥ע of the four ʾarbaʿ מֵא֖וֹת hundred mēʾâ שָׁנָ֑ה years, šāne וַיְהִ֗י it came to pass, hāyâ בְּעֶ֙צֶם֙ even the selfsame ʿeṣem הַיּ֣וֹם day yôm הַזֶּ֔ה ze יָֽצְא֛וּ went out yāṣāʾ כָּל that all kōl צִבְא֥וֹת the hosts ṣābāʾ יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ from the land ʾereṣ מִצְרָֽיִם׃ of Egypt. miṣrayim

לֵ֣יל a night layil שִׁמֻּרִ֥ים to be much observed šimmur הוּא֙ It hûʾ לַֽיהוָ֔ה unto the Lord yĕhōwâ לְהֽוֹצִיאָ֖ם for bringing yāṣāʾ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ them out from the land ʾereṣ מִצְרָ֑יִם of Egypt: miṣrayim הֽוּא that hûʾ הַלַּ֤יְלָה night layil הַזֶּה֙ this ze לַֽיהוָ֔ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ שִׁמֻּרִ֛ים to be observed šimmur לְכָל of all kōl בְּנֵ֥י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl לְדֹֽרֹתָֽם׃ in their generations. dôr

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁ֣ה Moses mōše וְאַֽהֲרֹ֔ן and Aaron, ʾahărôn זֹ֖את This zōt חֻקַּ֣ת the ordinance ḥuqqâ הַפָּ֑סַח of the passover: pesaḥ כָּל There shall no kōl בֶּן stranger bēn נֵכָ֖ר nēkār לֹא lōʾ יֹ֥אכַל eat thereof: ʾākal בּֽוֹ׃

וְכָל But every kōl עֶ֥בֶד servant ʿebed אִ֖ישׁ man's ʾîš מִקְנַת that is bought miqnâ כָּ֑סֶף for money, kesep וּמַלְתָּ֣ה when thou hast circumcised mûl אֹת֔וֹ ʾēt אָ֖ז him, then ʾāz יֹ֥אכַל shall he eat thereof. ʾākal בּֽוֹ׃

תּוֹשָׁ֥ב A foreigner tôšāb וְשָׂכִ֖יר and an hired servant śākîr לֹא shall not lōʾ יֹ֥אכַל eat thereof. ʾākal בּֽוֹ׃

בְּבַ֤יִת house bayit אֶחָד֙ In one ʾeḥād יֵֽאָכֵ֔ל shall it be eaten; ʾākal לֹֽא thou shalt not lōʾ תוֹצִ֧יא carry forth yāṣāʾ מִן ought of min הַבַּ֛יִת the house; bayit מִן out of min הַבָּשָׂ֖ר the flesh bāśār ח֑וּצָה abroad ḥûṣ וְעֶ֖צֶם a bone thereof. ʿeṣem לֹ֥א neither lōʾ תִשְׁבְּרוּ shall ye break šābar בֽוֹ׃

כָּל All kōl עֲדַ֥ת the congregation ʿēdâ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl יַֽעֲשׂ֥וּ shall keep it. ʿāśâ אֹתֽוֹ׃ ʾēt

וְכִֽי And when kî יָג֨וּר shall sojourn gûr אִתְּךָ֜ with ʾēt גֵּ֗ר a stranger gēr וְעָ֣שָׂה thee, and will keep ʿāśâ פֶסַח֮ the passover pesaḥ לַֽיהוָה֒ to the Lord, yĕhōwâ הִמּ֧וֹל be circumcised, mûl ל֣וֹ כָל let all kōl זָכָ֗ר his males zākār וְאָז֙ and then ʾāz יִקְרַ֣ב let him come near qārab לַֽעֲשֹׂת֔וֹ and keep ʿāśâ וְהָיָ֖ה it; and he shall be hāyâ כְּאֶזְרַ֣ח as one that is born in ʾezrāḥ הָאָ֑רֶץ the land: ʾereṣ וְכָל kōl עָרֵ֖ל for no uncircumcised person ʿārēl לֹֽא lōʾ יֹ֥אכַל shall eat thereof. ʾākal בּֽוֹ׃

תּוֹרָ֣ה law tôrâ אַחַ֔ת One ʾeḥād יִֽהְיֶ֖ה shall be hāyâ לָֽאֶזְרָ֑ח to him that is homeborn, ʾezrāḥ וְלַגֵּ֖ר and unto the stranger gēr הַגָּ֥ר that sojourneth gûr בְּתֽוֹכְכֶֽם׃ among you. tāwek

וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֖וּ Thus did ʿāśâ כָּל all kōl בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel; yiśrāʾēl כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר as ʾăšer צִוָּ֧ה commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶׁ֥ה Moses mōše וְאֶֽת ʾēt אַהֲרֹ֖ן and Aaron, ʾahărôn כֵּ֥ן so kēn עָשֽׂוּ׃ did they. ʿāśâ

וַיְהִ֕י And it came to pass hāyâ בְּעֶ֖צֶם the selfsame ʿeṣem הַיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַזֶּ֑ה ze הוֹצִ֨יא did bring yāṣāʾ יְהוָ֜ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt בְּנֵ֧י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מֵאֶ֥רֶץ out of the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַ֖יִם of Egypt miṣrayim עַל by ʿal צִבְאֹתָֽם׃ their armies. ṣābāʾ
