  1. וַיִּקְרָ֣א called qārāʾ מֹשֶׁה֮ And Moses mōše אֶל ʾēl כָּל all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and said ʾāmar אֲלֵהֶ֗ם unto ʾēl שְׁמַ֤ע them, Hear, šāmaʿ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ O Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֶת ʾēt הַֽחֻקִּ֣ים the statutes ḥōq וְאֶת ʾēt הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֔ים and judgments mišpāṭ אֲשֶׁ֧ר which ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִ֛י I ʾānōkî דֹּבֵ֥ר speak dābar בְּאָזְנֵיכֶ֖ם in your ears ʾōzen הַיּ֑וֹם this day, yôm וּלְמַדְתֶּ֣ם that ye may learn lāmad אֹתָ֔ם ʾēt וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֖ם them, and keep, šāmar לַֽעֲשֹׂתָֽם׃ and do them. ʿāśâ
  2. יְהוָ֣ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ our God ʾĕlōhîm כָּרַ֥ת made kārat עִמָּ֛נוּ with ʿim בְּרִ֖ית a covenant bĕrît בְּחֹרֵֽב׃ us in Horeb. ḥōrēb
  3. לֹ֣א not lōʾ אֶת with ʾēt אֲבֹתֵ֔ינוּ our fathers, ʾāb כָּרַ֥ת made kārat יְהוָ֖ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt הַבְּרִ֣ית covenant bĕrît הַזֹּ֑את this zōt כִּ֣י but אִתָּ֔נוּ with us, ʾēt אֲנַ֨חְנוּ us, ʾănaḥnû אֵ֥לֶּה who ʾēlle פֹ֛ה of us here הַיּ֖וֹם this day. yôm כֻּלָּ֥נוּ all kōl חַיִּֽים׃ alive ḥay
  4. פָּנִ֣ים׀ you face pānîm בְּפָנִ֗ים to face pānîm דִּבֶּ֨ר talked dābar יְהוָ֧ה The Lord yĕhōwâ עִמָּכֶ֛ם with ʿim בָּהָ֖ר in the mount har מִתּ֥וֹךְ out of the midst tāwek הָאֵֽשׁ׃ of the fire, ʾēš
  5. אָֽ֠נֹכִי (I ʾānōkî עֹמֵ֨ד stood ʿāmad בֵּין between bên יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ וּבֵֽינֵיכֶם֙ bên בָּעֵ֣ת time, ʿēt הַהִ֔וא and you at that hûʾ לְהַגִּ֥יד to shew nāgad לָכֶ֖ם אֶת you ʾēt דְּבַ֣ר the word dābār יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord: yĕhōwâ כִּ֤י for יְרֵאתֶם֙ ye were afraid yārēʾ מִפְּנֵ֣י by reason pānîm הָאֵ֔שׁ of the fire, ʾēš וְלֹֽא lōʾ עֲלִיתֶ֥ם and went not up ʿālâ בָּהָ֖ר into the mount;) har לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar
  6. אָֽנֹכִי֙ I ʾānōkî יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁ֧ר which ʾăšer הֽוֹצֵאתִ֛יךָ brought out yāṣāʾ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ thee of the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַ֖יִם of Egypt, miṣrayim מִבֵּ֣ית from the house bayit עֲבָדִֽ֑ים׃ of bondage. ʿebed
  7. לֹ֣א none lōʾ יִהְיֶ֥ה Thou shalt have hāyâ לְךָ֛֩ אֱלֹהִ֥֨ים gods ʾĕlōhîm אֲחֵרִ֖֜ים other ʾaḥēr עַל me. ʿal פָּנָֽ֗יַ׃ before pānîm
  8. לֹֽ֣א Thou shalt not lōʾ תַעֲשֶׂ֥ה make ʿāśâ לְךָ֥֣ פֶ֣֙סֶל֙׀ thee graven image, pesel כָּל any kōl תְּמוּנָ֔֡ה likeness tĕmûnâ אֲשֶׁ֤֣ר that ʾăšer בַּשָּׁמַ֣֙יִם֙׀ in heaven šāmayim מִמַּ֔֡עַל above, maʿal וַֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר or that ʾăšer בָּאָ֖֨רֶץ in the earth ʾereṣ מִתָּ֑֜חַת beneath, taḥat וַֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר or that ʾăšer בַּמַּ֖֣יִם׀ in the waters mayim מִתַּ֥֣חַת beneath taḥat לָאָֽ֗רֶץ׃ the earth: ʾereṣ
  9. לֹֽא Thou shalt not lōʾ תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֥֣ה bow down thyself šāḥâ לָהֶ֖ם֮ וְלֹ֣א unto them, nor lōʾ תָֽעָבְדֵ֑ם֒ serve ʿābad כִּ֣י them: for אָֽנֹכִ֞י I ʾānōkî יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ thy God ʾĕlōhîm אֵ֣ל God, ʾēl קַנָּ֔א a jealous qannāʾ פֹּ֠קֵד visiting pāqad עֲוֹ֨ן the iniquity ʿāwōn אָב֧וֹת of the fathers ʾāb עַל upon ʿal בָּנִ֛ים the children bēn וְעַל unto ʿal שִׁלֵּשִׁ֥ים the third šillēš וְעַל ʿal רִבֵּעִ֖ים and fourth ribbēaʿ לְשֹֽׂנְאָֽ֑י׃ of them that hate me, śānēʾ
  10. וְעֹ֤֥שֶׂה And shewing ʿāśâ חֶ֖֙סֶד֙ mercy ḥēsēd לַֽאֲלָפִ֑֔ים unto thousands ʾelep לְאֹֽהֲבַ֖י of them that love ʾāhab וּלְשֹֽׁמְרֵ֥י me and keep šāmar מִצְוֹתָֽוֹ my commandments. miṣwâ
  11. לֹ֥א Thou shalt not lōʾ תִשָּׂ֛א take nāśāʾ אֶת ʾēt שֵֽׁם the name šēm יְהוָ֥ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm לַשָּׁ֑וְא in vain: šow כִּ֣י for לֹ֤א will not lōʾ יְנַקֶּה֙ hold guiltless nāqâ יְהוָ֔ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵ֛ת ʾēt אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer יִשָּׂ֥א taketh nāśāʾ אֶת ʾēt שְׁמ֖וֹ his name šēm לַשָּֽׁוְא׃ in vain. šow
  12. שָׁמ֣֛וֹר Keep šāmar אֶת ʾēt י֥וֹם֩ day yôm הַשַּׁבָּ֖֨ת the sabbath šabbāt לְקַדְּשׁ֑֜וֹ to sanctify qādaš כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר it, as ʾăšer צִוְּךָ֖֣׀ hath commanded thee. ṣāwâ יְהוָ֥֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶֽ֗יךָ׃ thy God ʾĕlōhîm
  13. שֵׁ֤֣שֶׁת Six šēš יָמִ֣ים֙ days yôm תַּֽעֲבֹ֔ד֮ thou shalt labour, ʿābad וְעָשִׂ֖֣יתָ and do ʿāśâ כָּֿל all kōl מְלַאכְתֶּֽךָ֒׃ thy work: mĕlāʾkâ
  14. וְי֙וֹם֙ day yôm הַשְּׁבִיעִ֜֔י But the seventh šĕbîʿî שַׁבָּ֖֣ת׀ the sabbath šabbāt לַֽיהוָ֣ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֑֗יךָ thy God: ʾĕlōhîm לֹ֣א thou shalt not lōʾ תַֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה do ʿāśâ כָל any kōl מְלָאכָ֡ה work, mĕlāʾkâ אַתָּ֣ה thou, ʾattâ וּבִנְךָֽ nor thy son, bēn וּבִתֶּ֣ךָ nor thy daughter, bat וְעַבְדְּךָֽ nor thy manservant, ʿebed וַ֠אֲמָתֶךָ nor thy maidservant, ʾāmâ וְשֽׁוֹרְךָ֙ nor thine ox, šôr וַחֲמֹֽרְךָ֜ nor thine ass, ḥămôr וְכָל nor any kōl בְּהֶמְתֶּ֗ךָ of thy cattle, bĕhēmâ וְגֵֽרְךָ֙ nor thy stranger gēr אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בִּשְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ within thy gates; šaʿar לְמַ֗עַן that maʿan יָנ֛וּחַ may rest as well as thou. nûaḥ עַבְדְּךָ֥ thy manservant ʿebed וַאֲמָֽתְךָ֖ and thy maidservant ʾāmâ כָּמֽ֑וֹךָ׃ kĕmô
  15. וְזָֽכַרְתָּ֞֗ And remember zākar כִּ֣י that עֶ֤֥בֶד a servant ʿebed הָיִ֣֙יתָ֙׀ thou wast hāyâ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַ֔֗יִם of Egypt, miṣrayim וַיֹּצִ֨אֲךָ֜֩ brought yāṣāʾ יְהוָ֤֨ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֤֙יךָ֙ thy God ʾĕlōhîm מִשָּׁ֔ם֙ thee out thence šām בְּיָ֤֥ד hand yād חֲזָקָ֖ה֙ through a mighty ḥāzāq וּבִזְרֹ֣עַ arm: zĕrôaʿ נְטוּיָ֑֔ה and by a stretched out nāṭâ עַל therefore ʿal כֵּ֗ן kēn צִוְּךָ֙ commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm לַֽעֲשׂ֖וֹת thee to keep ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt י֥וֹם day. yôm הַשַּׁבָּֽת׃ the sabbath šabbāt
  16. כַּבֵּ֤ד Honour kābad אֶת ʾēt אָבִ֙יךָ֙ thy father ʾāb וְאֶת ʾēt אִמֶּ֔ךָ and thy mother, ʾēm כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer צִוְּךָ֖ hath commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm לְמַ֣עַן׀ thee; that maʿan יַֽאֲרִיכֻ֣ן may be prolonged, ʾārak יָמֶ֗יךָ thy days yôm וּלְמַ֙עַן֙ and that maʿan יִ֣יטַב it may go well yāṭab לָ֔ךְ עַ֚ל with thee, in ʿal הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה the land ʾădāmâ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm נֹתֵ֥ן giveth thee. nātan לָֽךְ׃
  17. לֹ֥֖א Thou shalt not lōʾ תִּֿרְצָ֖ח kill. rāṣaḥ
  18. וְלֹ֖֣א Neither lōʾ תִּֿנְאָֽ֑ף׃ shalt thou commit adultery. nāʾap
  19. וְלֹ֖֣א Neither lōʾ תִּֿגְנֹֽ֔ב׃ shalt thou steal. gānab
  20. וְלֹֽא Neither lōʾ תַעֲנֶ֥ה shalt thou bear ʿānâ בְרֵֽעֲךָ֖ against thy neighbour. rēaʿ עֵ֥ד witness ʿēd שָֽׁוְא׃ false šow
  21. וְלֹ֥א Neither lōʾ תַחְמֹ֖ד shalt thou desire ḥāmad אֵ֣שֶׁת wife, ʾiššâ רֵעֶ֑ךָ thy neighbour's rēaʿ וְלֹ֨א neither lōʾ תִתְאַוֶּ֜ה shalt thou covet ʾāwâ בֵּ֣ית house, bayit רֵעֶ֗ךָ thy neighbour's rēaʿ שָׂדֵ֜הוּ his field, śāde וְעַבְדּ֤וֹ or his manservant, ʿebed וַֽאֲמָתוֹ֙ or his maidservant, ʾāmâ שׁוֹר֣וֹ his ox, šôr וַֽחֲמֹר֔וֹ or his ass, ḥămôr וְכֹ֖ל or any kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer לְרֵעֶֽךָ׃ thy neighbour's. rēaʿ
  22. אֶֽת ʾēt הַדְּבָרִ֣ים words dābār הָאֵ֡לֶּה These ʾēlle דִּבֶּר֩ spake dābar יְהוָ֨ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl כָּל all kōl קְהַלְכֶ֜ם your assembly qāhāl בָּהָ֗ר in the mount har מִתּ֤וֹךְ out of the midst tāwek הָאֵשׁ֙ of the fire, ʾēš הֶֽעָנָ֣ן of the cloud, ʿānān וְהָֽעֲרָפֶ֔ל and of the thick darkness, ʿărāpel ק֥וֹל voice: qôl גָּד֖וֹל with a great gādôl וְלֹ֣א lōʾ יָסָ֑ף and he added no more. yāsap וַֽיִּכְתְּבֵ֗ם And he wrote kātab עַל them in ʿal שְׁנֵי֙ two šĕnayim לֻחֹ֣ת tables lûaḥ אֲבָנִ֔ים of stone, ʾeben וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖ם and delivered nātan אֵלָֽי׃ them unto me. ʾēl
  23. וַיְהִ֗י And it came to pass, hāyâ כְּשָׁמְעֲכֶ֤ם when ye heard šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt הַקּוֹל֙ the voice qôl מִתּ֣וֹךְ out of the midst tāwek הַחֹ֔שֶׁךְ of the darkness, ḥōšek וְהָהָ֖ר (for the mountain har בֹּעֵ֣ר did burn bāʿar בָּאֵ֑שׁ with fire,) ʾēš וַתִּקְרְב֣וּן that ye came near qārab אֵלַ֔י unto ʾēl כָּל me, all kōl רָאשֵׁ֥י the heads rōš שִׁבְטֵיכֶ֖ם of your tribes, šēbeṭ וְזִקְנֵיכֶֽם׃ and your elders; zāqēn
  24. וַתֹּֽאמְר֗וּ And ye said, ʾāmar הֵ֣ן Behold, hēn הֶרְאָ֜נוּ hath shewed rāʾâ יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ our God ʾĕlōhîm אֶת us ʾēt כְּבֹד֣וֹ his glory kābôd וְאֶת ʾēt גָּדְל֔וֹ and his greatness, gōdel וְאֶת ʾēt קֹל֥וֹ his voice qôl שָׁמַ֖עְנוּ and we have heard šāmaʿ מִתּ֣וֹךְ out of the midst tāwek הָאֵ֑שׁ of the fire: ʾēš הַיּ֤וֹם day yôm הַזֶּה֙ this ze רָאִ֔ינוּ we have seen rāʾâ כִּֽי that יְדַבֵּ֧ר doth talk dābar אֱלֹהִ֛ים God ʾĕlōhîm אֶת with ʾēt הָֽאָדָ֖ם man, ʾādām וָחָֽי׃ and he liveth. ḥāyay
  25. וְעַתָּה֙ Now ʿattâ לָ֣מָּה therefore why נָמ֔וּת should we die? mût כִּ֣י for תֹֽאכְלֵ֔נוּ will consume ʾākal הָאֵ֥שׁ fire ʾēš הַגְּדֹלָ֖ה great gādôl הַזֹּ֑את this zōt אִם us: if ʾim יֹֽסְפִ֣ים׀ any more, yāsap אֲנַ֗חְנוּ we ʾănaḥnû לִ֠שְׁמֹעַ hear šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt ק֨וֹל the voice qôl יְהוָ֧ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֛ינוּ our God ʾĕlōhîm ע֖וֹד ʿôd וָמָֽתְנוּ׃ then we shall die. mût
  26. כִּ֣י For מִ֣י who כָל all kōl בָּשָׂ֡ר flesh, bāśār אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer שָׁמַ֣ע hath heard šāmaʿ קוֹל֩ the voice qôl אֱלֹהִ֨ים God ʾĕlōhîm חַיִּ֜ים of the living ḥay מְדַבֵּ֧ר speaking dābar מִתּוֹךְ out of the midst tāwek הָאֵ֛שׁ of the fire, ʾēš כָּמֹ֖נוּ as we kĕmô וַיֶּֽחִי׃ and lived? ḥāyâ
  27. קְרַ֤ב Go thou near, qārab אַתָּה֙ ʾattâ וּֽשֲׁמָ֔ע and hear šāmaʿ אֵ֛ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer יֹאמַ֖ר shall say: ʾāmar יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ our God ʾĕlōhîm וְאַ֣תְּ׀ thou ʾattâ תְּדַבֵּ֣ר and speak dābar אֵלֵ֗ינוּ unto ʾēl אֵת֩ us ʾēt כָּל all kōl אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ʾăšer יְדַבֵּ֜ר shall speak dābar יְהוָ֧ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֛ינוּ our God ʾĕlōhîm אֵלֶ֖יךָ unto ʾēl וְשָׁמַ֥עְנוּ thee; and we will hear šāmaʿ וְעָשִֽׂינוּ׃ and do ʿāśâ
  28. וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע heard šāmaʿ יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt ק֣וֹל the voice qôl דִּבְרֵיכֶ֔ם of your words, dābār בְּדַבֶּרְכֶ֖ם when ye spake dābar אֵלָ֑י unto ʾēl וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָ֜ה me; and the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֗י unto ʾēl שָׁ֠מַעְתִּי me, I have heard šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt ק֨וֹל the voice qôl דִּבְרֵ֜י of the words dābār הָעָ֤ם people, ʿam הַזֶּה֙ of this ze אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer דִּבְּר֣וּ they have spoken dābar אֵלֶ֔יךָ unto ʾēl הֵיטִ֖יבוּ thee: they have well said yāṭab כָּל all kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer דִּבֵּֽרוּ׃ they have spoken. dābar
  29. מִֽי O that יִתֵּ֡ן in them, nātan וְהָיָה֩ there were hāyâ לְבָבָ֨ם an heart lēbāb זֶ֜ה such ze לָהֶ֗ם לְיִרְאָ֥ה that they would fear yārēʾ אֹתִ֛י ʾēt וְלִשְׁמֹ֥ר me, and keep šāmar אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl מִצְוֹתַ֖י my commandments miṣwâ כָּל kōl הַיָּמִ֑ים always, yôm לְמַ֨עַן that maʿan יִיטַ֥ב it might be well yāṭab לָהֶ֛ם וְלִבְנֵיהֶ֖ם with them, and with their children bēn לְעֹלָֽם׃ for ever! ʿôlām
  30. לֵ֖ךְ Go hālak אֱמֹ֣ר say ʾāmar לָהֶ֑ם שׁ֥וּבוּ to them, Get šûb לָכֶ֖ם לְאָֽהֳלֵיכֶֽם׃ you into your tents again. ʾōhel
  31. וְאַתָּ֗ה But as for thee, ʾattâ פֹּה֮ thou here עֲמֹ֣ד stand ʿāmad עִמָּדִי֒ by me, ʿimmād וַֽאֲדַבְּרָ֣ה and I will speak dābar אֵלֶ֗יךָ unto ʾēl אֵ֧ת thee ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַמִּצְוָ֛ה the commandments, miṣwâ וְהַֽחֻקִּ֥ים and the statutes, ḥōq וְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֖ים and the judgments, mišpāṭ אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer תְּלַמְּדֵ֑ם thou shalt teach lāmad וְעָשׂ֣וּ them, that they may do ʿāśâ בָאָ֔רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֧ר which ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִ֛י I ʾānōkî נֹתֵ֥ן give nātan לָהֶ֖ם לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ them to possess it. yāraš
  32. וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֣ם Ye shall observe šāmar לַֽעֲשׂ֔וֹת to do ʿāśâ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר therefore as ʾăšer צִוָּ֛ה hath commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֖ם your God ʾĕlōhîm אֶתְכֶ֑ם ʾēt לֹ֥א you: ye shall not lōʾ תָסֻ֖רוּ turn aside sûr יָמִ֥ין to the right hand yāmîn וּשְׂמֹֽאל׃ or to the left. śĕmōwl
  33. בְּכָל in all kōl הַדֶּ֗רֶךְ the ways derek אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer צִוָּ֜ה hath commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֧ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֛ם your God ʾĕlōhîm אֶתְכֶ֖ם ʾēt תֵּלֵ֑כוּ Ye shall walk hālak לְמַ֤עַן you, that maʿan תִּֽחְיוּן֙ ye may live, ḥāyâ וְט֣וֹב and well ṭôb לָכֶ֔ם וְהַֽאֲרַכְתֶּ֣ם with you, and ye may prolong ʾārak יָמִ֔ים days yôm בָּאָ֖רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer תִּֽירָשֽׁוּן׃ ye shall possess. yāraš
