אֵלֶּה֩ These ʾēlle דִבְרֵ֨י the words dābār הַבְּרִ֜ית of the covenant, bĕrît אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer צִוָּ֧ה commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶׁ֗ה Moses mōše לִכְרֹ֛ת to make kārat אֶת with ʾēt בְּנֵ֥י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ מוֹאָ֑ב of Moab, môʾāb מִלְּבַ֣ד beside bad הַבְּרִ֔ית the covenant bĕrît אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer כָּרַ֥ת he made kārat אִתָּ֖ם with ʾēt בְּחֹרֵֽב׃ them in Horeb. ḥōrēb

וַיִּקְרָ֥א called qārāʾ מֹשֶׁ֛ה And Moses mōše אֶל unto ʾēl כָּל all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and said ʾāmar אֲלֵהֶ֑ם unto ʾēl אַתֶּ֣ם them, Ye ʾattâ רְאִיתֶ֗ם have seen rāʾâ אֵ֣ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl אֲשֶׁר֩ that ʾăšer עָשָׂ֨ה did ʿāśâ יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ לְעֵֽינֵיכֶם֙ before your eyes ʿayin בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַ֔יִם of Egypt miṣrayim לְפַרְעֹ֥ה unto Pharaoh, parʿō וּלְכָל and unto all kōl עֲבָדָ֖יו his servants, ʿebed וּלְכָל and unto all kōl אַרְצֽוֹ׃ his land; ʾereṣ

הַמַּסּוֹת֙ temptations massâ הַגְּדֹלֹ֔ת The great gādôl אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer רָא֖וּ have seen, rāʾâ עֵינֶ֑יךָ thine eyes ʿayin הָֽאֹתֹ֧ת the signs, ʾôt וְהַמֹּֽפְתִ֛ים miracles: môpēt הַגְּדֹלִ֖ים great gādôl הָהֵֽם׃ and those hēm

וְלֹֽא hath not lōʾ נָתַן֩ given nātan יְהוָ֨ה Yet the Lord yĕhōwâ לָכֶ֥ם לֵב֙ you an heart lēb לָדַ֔עַת to perceive, yādaʿ וְעֵינַ֥יִם and eyes ʿayin לִרְא֖וֹת to see, rāʾâ וְאָזְנַ֣יִם and ears ʾōzen לִשְׁמֹ֑עַ to hear, šāmaʿ עַ֖ד unto ʿad הַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וָֽאוֹלֵ֥ךְ And I have led hālak אֶתְכֶ֛ם ʾēt אַרְבָּעִ֥ים you forty ʾarbāʿîm שָׁנָ֖ה years šāne בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר in the wilderness: midbār לֹֽא are not lōʾ בָל֤וּ waxen old bālâ שַׂלְמֹֽתֵיכֶם֙ your clothes śalmâ מֵֽעֲלֵיכֶ֔ם upon ʿal וְנַֽעַלְךָ֥ you, and thy shoe naʿal לֹֽא is not lōʾ בָלְתָ֖ה waxen old bālâ מֵעַ֥ל upon ʿal רַגְלֶֽךָ׃ thy foot. regel

לֶ֚חֶם bread, leḥem לֹ֣א Ye have not lōʾ אֲכַלְתֶּ֔ם eaten ʾākal וְיַ֥יִן wine yayin וְשֵׁכָ֖ר or strong drink: šēkār לֹ֣א neither lōʾ שְׁתִיתֶ֑ם have ye drunk šātâ לְמַ֙עַן֙ that maʿan תֵּֽדְע֔וּ ye might know yādaʿ כִּ֛י that kî אֲנִ֥י I ʾănî יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶֽם׃ your God. ʾĕlōhîm

וַתָּבֹ֖אוּ And when ye came bôʾ אֶל unto ʾēl הַמָּק֣וֹם place, māqôm הַזֶּ֑ה this ze וַיֵּצֵ֣א came out yāṣāʾ סִיחֹ֣ן Sihon sîḥôn מֶֽלֶךְ the king melek חֶ֠שְׁבּוֹן of Heshbon, ḥešbôn וְע֨וֹג and Og ʿôg מֶֽלֶךְ the king melek הַבָּשָׁ֧ן of Bashan, bāšān לִקְרָאתֵ֛נוּ against qirʾâ לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה us unto battle, milḥāmâ וַנַּכֵּֽם׃ and we smote them: nākâ

וַנִּקַּח֙ And we took lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt אַרְצָ֔ם their land, ʾereṣ וַנִּתְּנָ֣הּ and gave nātan לְנַֽחֲלָ֔ה it for an inheritance naḥălâ לָרֽאוּבֵנִ֖י unto the Reubenites, rĕʾûbēnî וְלַגָּדִ֑י and to the Gadites, gādî וְלַֽחֲצִ֖י and to the half ḥēṣî שֵׁ֥בֶט tribe šēbeṭ הַֽמְנַשִּֽׁי׃ of Manasseh. mĕnaššî

וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֗ם Keep šāmar אֶת therefore ʾēt דִּבְרֵי֙ the words dābār הַבְּרִ֣ית covenant, bĕrît הַזֹּ֔את of this zōt וַֽעֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם and do ʿāśâ אֹתָ֑ם ʾēt לְמַ֣עַן them, that maʿan תַּשְׂכִּ֔ילוּ ye may prosper śākal אֵ֖ת ʾēt כָּל in all kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer תַּֽעֲשֽׂוּן׃ ye do. ʿāśâ

אַתֶּ֨ם Ye ʾattâ נִצָּבִ֤ים stand nāṣab הַיּוֹם֙ this day yôm כֻּלְּכֶ֔ם all kōl לִפְנֵ֖י of you before pānîm יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֑ם your God; ʾĕlōhîm רָֽאשֵׁיכֶ֣ם your captains rōš שִׁבְטֵיכֶ֗ם of your tribes, šēbeṭ זִקְנֵיכֶם֙ your elders, zāqēn וְשֹׁ֣טְרֵיכֶ֔ם and your officers, šōṭēr כֹּ֖ל all kōl אִ֥ישׁ the men ʾîš יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl

טַפְּכֶ֣ם Your little ones, ṭap נְשֵׁיכֶ֔ם your wives, ʾiššâ וְגֵ֣רְךָ֔ and thy stranger gēr אֲשֶׁ֖ר that ʾăšer בְּקֶ֣רֶב in qereb מַֽחֲנֶ֑יךָ thy camp, maḥăne מֵֽחֹטֵ֣ב from the hewer ḥāṭab עֵצֶ֔יךָ of thy wood ʿēṣ עַ֖ד unto ʿad שֹׁאֵ֥ב the drawer šāʾab מֵימֶֽיךָ׃ of thy water: mayim

לְעָבְרְךָ֗ That thou shouldest enter ʿābar בִּבְרִ֛ית into covenant bĕrît יְהוָ֥ה with the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm וּבְאָֽלָת֑וֹ and into his oath, ʾālâ אֲשֶׁר֙ which ʾăšer יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm כֹּרֵ֥ת maketh kārat עִמְּךָ֖ with ʿim הַיּֽוֹם׃ thee this day: yôm

לְמַ֣עַן That maʿan הָקִֽים he may establish qûm אֹתְךָ֩ ʾēt הַיּ֨וֹם׀ thee to day yôm ל֜וֹ לְעָ֗ם for a people ʿam וְה֤וּא unto himself, and he hûʾ יִֽהְיֶה may be hāyâ לְּךָ֙ לֵֽאלֹהִ֔ים unto thee a God, ʾĕlōhîm כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר as ʾăšer דִּבֶּר he hath said dābar לָ֑ךְ וְכַֽאֲשֶׁ֤ר unto thee, and as ʾăšer נִשְׁבַּע֙ he hath sworn šābaʿ לַֽאֲבֹתֶ֔יךָ unto thy fathers, ʾāb לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם to Abraham, ʾabrāhām לְיִצְחָ֖ק to Isaac, yiṣḥāq וּֽלְיַעֲקֹֽב׃ and to Jacob. yaʿăqōb

וְלֹ֥א Neither lōʾ אִתְּכֶ֖ם with ʾēt לְבַדְּכֶ֑ם you only bad אָֽנֹכִ֗י do I ʾānōkî כֹּרֵת֙ make kārat אֶת ʾēt הַבְּרִ֣ית covenant bĕrît הַזֹּ֔את this zōt וְאֶת ʾēt הָֽאָלָ֖ה oath; ʾālâ הַזֹּֽאת׃ and this zōt

כִּי֩ But kî אֶת with ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ʾăšer יֶשְׁנ֜וֹ us this yēš פֹּ֗ה here pō עִמָּ֙נוּ֙ with ʿim עֹמֵ֣ד standeth ʿāmad הַיּ֔וֹם day yôm לִפְנֵ֖י before pānîm יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ our God, ʾĕlōhîm וְאֵ֨ת and also with ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer אֵינֶ֛נּוּ not ʾayin פֹּ֖ה here pō עִמָּ֥נוּ with ʿim הַיּֽוֹם׃ us this day: yôm

כִּֽי (For kî אַתֶּ֣ם ye ʾattâ יְדַעְתֶּ֔ם know yādaʿ אֵ֥ת ʾēt אֲשֶׁר how ʾăšer יָשַׁ֖בְנוּ we have dwelt yāšab בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ מִצְרָ֑יִם of Egypt; miṣrayim וְאֵ֧ת ʾēt אֲשֶׁר and how ʾăšer עָבַ֛רְנוּ we came ʿābar בְּקֶ֥רֶב through qereb הַגּוֹיִ֖ם the nations gôy אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer עֲבַרְתֶּֽם׃ ye passed by; ʿābar

וַתִּרְאוּ֙ And ye have seen rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt שִׁקּ֣וּצֵיהֶ֔ם their abominations, šiqqûṣ וְאֵ֖ת ʾēt גִּלֻּֽלֵיהֶ֑ם and their idols, gillûl עֵ֣ץ wood ʿēṣ וָאֶ֔בֶן and stone, ʾeben כֶּ֥סֶף silver kesep וְזָהָ֖ב and gold, zāhāb אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer עִמָּהֶֽם׃ among them:) ʿim

פֶּן Lest pēn יֵ֣שׁ there should be yēš בָּ֠כֶם אִ֣ישׁ among you man, ʾîš אוֹ or ʾô אִשָּׁ֞ה woman, ʾiššâ א֧וֹ or ʾô מִשְׁפָּחָ֣ה family, mišpāḥâ אוֹ or ʾô שֵׁ֗בֶט tribe, šēbeṭ אֲשֶׁר֩ whose ʾăšer לְבָב֨וֹ heart lēbāb פֹנֶ֤ה turneth away pānâ הַיּוֹם֙ this day yôm מֵעִם֙ from ʿim יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ our God, ʾĕlōhîm לָלֶ֣כֶת to go hālak לַֽעֲבֹ֔ד serve ʿābad אֶת ʾēt אֱלֹהֵ֖י the gods ʾĕlōhîm הַגּוֹיִ֣ם nations; gôy הָהֵ֑ם of these hēm פֶּן lest pēn יֵ֣שׁ there should be yēš בָּכֶ֗ם שֹׁ֛רֶשׁ among you a root šereš פֹּרֶ֥ה that beareth pārâ רֹ֖אשׁ gall rōš וְלַֽעֲנָֽה׃ and wormwood; laʿănâ

וְהָיָ֡ה And it come to pass, hāyâ בְּשָׁמְעוֹ֩ when he heareth šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt דִּבְרֵ֨י the words dābār הָֽאָלָ֜ה curse, ʾālâ הַזֹּ֗את of this zōt וְהִתְבָּרֵ֨ךְ that he bless himself bārak בִּלְבָב֤וֹ in his heart, lēbāb לֵאמֹר֙ saying, ʾāmar שָׁל֣וֹם peace, šālôm יִֽהְיֶה I shall have hāyâ לִּ֔י כִּ֛י though kî בִּשְׁרִר֥וּת in the imagination šĕrîrût לִבִּ֖י of mine heart, lēb אֵלֵ֑ךְ I walk hālak לְמַ֛עַן to maʿan סְפ֥וֹת add sāpâ הָֽרָוָ֖ה drunkenness rāwe אֶת to ʾēt הַצְּמֵאָֽה׃ thirst: ṣāmēʾ

לֹֽא not lōʾ יֹאבֶ֣ה will ʾābâ יְהוָה֮ The Lord yĕhōwâ סְלֹ֣חַֽ spare sālaḥ לוֹ֒ כִּ֣י him, but kî אָ֠ז then ʾāz יֶעְשַׁ֨ן shall smoke ʿāšan אַף the anger ʾap יְהוָ֤ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ וְקִנְאָתוֹ֙ and his jealousy qinʾâ בָּאִ֣ישׁ man, ʾîš הַה֔וּא against that hûʾ וְרָ֤בְצָה shall lie rābaṣ בּוֹ֙ כָּל and all kōl הָ֣אָלָ֔ה the curses ʾālâ הַכְּתוּבָ֖ה that are written kātab בַּסֵּ֣פֶר book sēper הַזֶּ֑ה in this ze וּמָחָ֤ה shall blot out māḥâ יְהוָה֙ upon him, and the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt שְׁמ֔וֹ his name šēm מִתַּ֖חַת from under taḥat הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ heaven. šāmayim

וְהִבְדִּיל֤וֹ shall separate bādal יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ לְרָעָ֔ה him unto evil raʿ מִכֹּ֖ל out of all kōl שִׁבְטֵ֣י the tribes šēbeṭ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl כְּכֹל֙ according to all kōl אָל֣וֹת the curses ʾālâ הַבְּרִ֔ית of the covenant bĕrît הַכְּתוּבָ֕ה that are written kātab בְּסֵ֥פֶר book sēper הַתּוֹרָ֖ה of the law: tôrâ הַזֶּֽה׃ in this ze

וְאָמַ֞ר shall say, ʾāmar הַדּ֣וֹר So that the generation dôr הָאַֽחֲר֗וֹן to come ʾaḥărôn בְּנֵיכֶם֙ of your children bēn אֲשֶׁ֤ר that ʾăšer יָק֙וּמוּ֙ shall rise up qûm מֵאַ֣חֲרֵיכֶ֔ם after ʾaḥar וְהַ֨נָּכְרִ֔י you, and the stranger nokrî אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer יָבֹ֖א shall come bôʾ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ land, ʾereṣ רְחוֹקָ֑ה from a far rāḥôq וְ֠רָאוּ when they see rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt מַכּ֞וֹת the plagues makkâ הָאָ֤רֶץ land, ʾereṣ הַהִוא֙ of that hûʾ וְאֶת ʾēt תַּ֣חֲלֻאֶ֔יהָ and the sicknesses taḥălûʾ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer חִלָּ֥ה hath laid upon it; ḥālâ יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ בָּֽהּ׃

גָּפְרִ֣ית thereof brimstone, goprît וָמֶלַח֮ and salt, melaḥ שְׂרֵפָ֣ה burning, śĕrēpâ כָל the whole kōl אַרְצָהּ֒ land ʾereṣ לֹ֤א it is not lōʾ תִזָּרַע֙ sown, zāraʿ וְלֹ֣א nor lōʾ תַצְמִ֔חַ beareth, ṣāmaḥ וְלֹֽא nor lōʾ יַעֲלֶ֥ה groweth ʿālâ בָ֖הּ כָּל any kōl עֵ֑שֶׂב grass ʿeśeb כְּֽמַהְפֵּכַ֞ת therein, like the overthrow mahpēkâ סְדֹ֤ם of Sodom, sĕdōm וַֽעֲמֹרָה֙ and Gomorrah, ʿămōrâ אַדְמָ֣ה Admah, ʾadmâ וּצְבֹיִ֔ים and Zeboim, ṣĕbōʾîm אֲשֶׁר֙ which ʾăšer הָפַ֣ךְ overthrew hāpak יְהוָ֔ה the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּאַפּ֖וֹ in his anger, ʾap וּבַֽחֲמָתֽוֹ׃ and in his wrath: ḥēmâ

וְאָֽמְרוּ֙ shall say, ʾāmar כָּל Even all kōl הַגּוֹיִ֔ם nations gôy עַל Wherefore ʿal מֶ֨ה mâ עָשָׂ֧ה done ʿāśâ יְהוָ֛ה hath the Lord yĕhōwâ כָּ֖כָה thus kākâ לָאָ֣רֶץ land? ʾereṣ הַזֹּ֑את unto this zōt מֶ֥ה what mâ חֳרִ֛י the heat ḥŏrî הָאַ֥ף anger? ʾap הַגָּד֖וֹל great gādôl הַזֶּֽה׃ of this ze

וְאָ֣מְר֔וּ Then men shall say, ʾāmar עַ֚ל Because ʿal אֲשֶׁ֣ר ʾăšer עָֽזְב֔וּ they have forsaken ʿāzab אֶת ʾēt בְּרִ֥ית the covenant bĕrît יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֣י God ʾĕlōhîm אֲבֹתָ֑ם of their fathers, ʾāb אֲשֶׁר֙ which ʾăšer כָּרַ֣ת he made kārat עִמָּ֔ם with ʿim בְּהֽוֹצִיא֥וֹ them when he brought them forth yāṣāʾ אֹתָ֖ם ʾēt מֵאֶ֥רֶץ out of the land ʾereṣ מִצְרָֽיִם׃ of Egypt: miṣrayim

וַיֵּֽלְכ֗וּ For they went hālak וַיַּֽעַבְדוּ֙ and served ʿābad אֱלֹהִ֣ים gods, ʾĕlōhîm אֲחֵרִ֔ים other ʾaḥēr וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוּ֖וּ and worshipped šāḥâ לָהֶ֑ם אֱלֹהִים֙ them, gods ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁ֣ר whom ʾăšer לֹֽא not, lōʾ יְדָע֔וּם they knew yādaʿ וְלֹ֥א and he had not lōʾ חָלַ֖ק given unto them: ḥālaq לָהֶֽם׃

וַיִּֽחַר was kindled ḥārâ אַ֥ף And the anger ʾap יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ בָּאָ֣רֶץ land, ʾereṣ הַהִ֑וא against this hûʾ לְהָבִ֤יא to bring bôʾ עָלֶ֙יהָ֙ upon ʿal אֶת it ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַקְּלָלָ֔ה the curses qĕlālâ הַכְּתוּבָ֖ה that are written kātab בַּסֵּ֥פֶר book: sēper הַזֶּֽה׃ in this ze

וַיִּתְּשֵׁ֤ם rooted nātaš יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ מֵעַ֣ל them out of ʿal אַדְמָתָ֔ם their land ʾădāmâ בְּאַ֥ף in anger, ʾap וּבְחֵמָ֖ה and in wrath, ḥēmâ וּבְקֶ֣צֶף indignation, qeṣep גָּד֑וֹל and in great gādôl וַיַּשְׁלִכֵ֛ם and cast šālak אֶל them into ʾēl אֶ֥רֶץ land, ʾereṣ אַחֶ֖רֶת another ʾaḥēr כַּיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ as this ze

הַנִּ֨סְתָּרֹ֔ת The secret sātar לַֽיהוָ֖ה unto the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ our God: ʾĕlōhîm וְהַנִּגְלֹ֞ת but those revealed gālâ לָ֤ׄנׄוּׄ וּׄלְׄבָׄנֵ֙ׄיׄנׄוּ֙ׄ unto us and to our children bēn עַד for ʿad עוֹלָ֔ם ever, ʿôlām לַֽעֲשׂ֕וֹת that may do ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl דִּבְרֵ֖י the words dābār הַתּוֹרָ֥ה law. tôrâ הַזֹּֽאת׃ of this zōt
