וְהָיָ֗ה And it shall come to pass, hāyâ אִם if ʾim שָׁמ֤וֹעַ thou shalt hearken šāmaʿ תִּשְׁמַע֙ diligently šāmaʿ בְּקוֹל֙ unto the voice qôl יְהוָ֣ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm לִשְׁמֹ֤ר to observe šāmar לַֽעֲשׂוֹת֙ to do ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl מִצְוֹתָ֔יו his commandments miṣwâ אֲשֶׁ֛ר which ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִ֥י I ʾānōkî מְצַוְּךָ֖ command ṣāwâ הַיּ֑וֹם thee this day, yôm וּנְתָ֨נְךָ֜ will set nātan יְהוָ֤ה that the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ thy God ʾĕlōhîm עֶלְי֔וֹן thee on high ʿelyôn עַ֖ל above ʿal כָּל all kōl גּוֹיֵ֥י nations gôy הָאָֽרֶץ׃ of the earth: ʾereṣ

וּבָ֧אוּ shall come bôʾ עָלֶ֛יךָ on ʿal כָּל And all kōl הַבְּרָכ֥וֹת blessings bĕrākâ הָאֵ֖לֶּה these ʾēlle וְהִשִּׂיגֻ֑ךָ thee, and overtake nāśag כִּ֣י thee, if kî תִשְׁמַ֔ע thou shalt hearken šāmaʿ בְּק֖וֹל unto the voice qôl יְהוָ֥ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ thy God. ʾĕlōhîm

בָּר֥וּךְ Blessed bārak אַתָּ֖ה thou ʾattâ בָּעִ֑יר in the city, ʿîr וּבָר֥וּךְ and blessed bārak אַתָּ֖ה thou ʾattâ בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ in the field. śāde

בָּר֧וּךְ Blessed bārak פְּרִֽי the fruit pĕrî בִטְנְךָ֛ of thy body, beṭen וּפְרִ֥י and the fruit pĕrî אַדְמָֽתְךָ֖ of thy ground, ʾădāmâ וּפְרִ֣י and the fruit pĕrî בְהֶמְתֶּ֑ךָ of thy cattle, bĕhēmâ שְׁגַ֥ר the increase šeger אֲלָפֶ֖יךָ of thy kine, ʾelep וְעַשְׁתְּר֥וֹת and the flocks ʿaštĕrâ צֹאנֶֽךָ׃ of thy sheep. ṣōn

בָּר֥וּךְ Blessed bārak טַנְאֲךָ֖ thy basket ṭeneʾ וּמִשְׁאַרְתֶּֽךָ׃ and thy store. mišʾeret

בָּר֥וּךְ Blessed bārak אַתָּ֖ה thou ʾattâ בְּבֹאֶ֑ךָ when thou comest in, bôʾ וּבָר֥וּךְ and blessed bārak אַתָּ֖ה thou ʾattâ בְּצֵאתֶֽךָ׃ when thou goest out. yāṣāʾ

יִתֵּ֨ן shall cause nātan יְהוָ֤ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt אֹֽיְבֶ֙יךָ֙ thine enemies ʾōyēb הַקָּמִ֣ים that rise up qûm עָלֶ֔יךָ against ʿal נִגָּפִ֖ים thee to be smitten nāgap לְפָנֶ֑יךָ before thy face: pānîm בְּדֶ֤רֶךְ way, derek אֶחָד֙ thee one ʾeḥād יֵֽצְא֣וּ they shall come out yāṣāʾ אֵלֶ֔יךָ against ʾēl וּבְשִׁבְעָ֥ה thee seven šebaʿ דְרָכִ֖ים ways. derek יָנ֥וּסוּ and flee nûs לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃ before pānîm

יְצַ֨ו shall command ṣāwâ יְהוָ֤ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אִתְּךָ֙ upon ʾēt אֶת ʾēt הַבְּרָכָ֔ה the blessing bĕrākâ בַּֽאֲסָמֶ֕יךָ thee in thy storehouses, ʾāsām וּבְכֹ֖ל and in all kōl מִשְׁלַ֣ח that thou settest mišlôaḥ יָדֶ֑ךָ thine hand yād וּבֵ֣רַכְךָ֔ unto; and he shall bless bārak בָּאָ֕רֶץ thee in the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm נֹתֵ֥ן giveth thee. nātan לָֽךְ׃

יְקִֽימְךָ֙ shall establish qûm יְהוָ֥ה The Lord yĕhōwâ לוֹ֙ לְעַ֣ם people ʿam קָד֔וֹשׁ thee an holy qādôš כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר unto himself, as ʾăšer נִֽשְׁבַּֽע he hath sworn šābaʿ לָ֑ךְ כִּ֣י unto thee, if kî תִשְׁמֹ֗ר thou shalt keep šāmar אֶת ʾēt מִצְוֹת֙ the commandments miṣwâ יְהוָ֣ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm וְהָֽלַכְתָּ֖ and walk hālak בִּדְרָכָֽיו׃ in his ways. derek

וְרָאוּ֙ shall see rāʾâ כָּל And all kōl עַמֵּ֣י people ʿam הָאָ֔רֶץ of the earth ʾereṣ כִּ֛י that kî שֵׁ֥ם the name šēm יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord; yĕhōwâ נִקְרָ֣א thou art called qārāʾ עָלֶ֑יךָ by ʿal וְיָֽרְא֖וּ and they shall be afraid yārēʾ מִמֶּֽךָּ׃ of thee. min

וְהוֹתִֽרְךָ֤ shall make thee plenteous yātar יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ לְטוֹבָ֔ה in goods, ṭôb בִּפְרִ֧י in the fruit pĕrî בִטְנְךָ֛ of thy body, beṭen וּבִפְרִ֥י and in the fruit pĕrî בְהַמְתְּךָ֖ of thy cattle, bĕhēmâ וּבִפְרִ֣י and in the fruit pĕrî אַדְמָתֶ֑ךָ of thy ground, ʾădāmâ עַ֚ל in ʿal הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה the land ʾădāmâ אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer נִשְׁבַּ֧ע sware šābaʿ יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ לַֽאֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ unto thy fathers ʾāb לָ֥תֶת to give thee. nātan לָֽךְ׃

יִפְתַּ֣ח shall open pātaḥ יְהוָ֣ה׀ The Lord yĕhōwâ לְ֠ךָ אֶת unto thee ʾēt אֽוֹצָר֨וֹ treasure, ʾôṣār הַטּ֜וֹב his good ṭôb אֶת ʾēt הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם the heaven šāmayim לָתֵ֤ת to give nātan מְטַֽר the rain māṭar אַרְצְךָ֙ unto thy land ʾereṣ בְּעִתּ֔וֹ in his season, ʿēt וּלְבָרֵ֕ךְ and to bless bārak אֵ֖ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl מַֽעֲשֵׂ֣ה the work maʿăśe יָדֶ֑ךָ of thine hand: yād וְהִלְוִ֙יתָ֙ and thou shalt lend lāwâ גּוֹיִ֣ם nations, gôy רַבִּ֔ים unto many rab וְאַתָּ֖ה and thou ʾattâ לֹ֥א shalt not lōʾ תִלְוֶֽה׃ borrow. lāwâ

וּנְתָֽנְךָ֙ shall make nātan יְהוָ֤ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ לְרֹאשׁ֙ thee the head, rōš וְלֹ֣א and not lōʾ לְזָנָ֔ב the tail; zānāb וְהָיִ֙יתָ֙ and thou shalt be hāyâ רַ֣ק raq לְמַ֔עְלָה above only, maʿal וְלֹ֥א and thou shalt not lōʾ תִֽהְיֶ֖ה be hāyâ לְמָ֑טָּה beneath; maṭṭâ כִּֽי if kî תִשְׁמַ֞ע that thou hearken šāmaʿ אֶל unto ʾēl מִצְוֹ֣ת׀ the commandments miṣwâ יְהוָ֣ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִ֧י I ʾānōkî מְצַוְּךָ֛ command ṣāwâ הַיּ֖וֹם thee this day, yôm לִשְׁמֹ֥ר to observe šāmar וְלַֽעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ and to do ʿāśâ

וְלֹ֣א And thou shalt not lōʾ תָס֗וּר go aside sûr מִכָּל from any kōl הַדְּבָרִים֙ of the words dābār אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִ֜י I ʾānōkî מְצַוֶּ֥ה command ṣāwâ אֶתְכֶ֛ם ʾēt הַיּ֖וֹם thee this day, yôm יָמִ֣ין the right hand, yāmîn וּשְׂמֹ֑אול or the left, śĕmōwl לָלֶ֗כֶת to go hālak אַֽחֲרֵ֛י after ʾaḥar אֱלֹהִ֥ים gods ʾĕlōhîm אֲחֵרִ֖ים other ʾaḥēr לְעָבְדָֽם׃ to serve them. ʿābad

וְהָיָ֗ה But it shall come to pass, hāyâ אִם if ʾim לֹ֤א thou wilt not lōʾ תִשְׁמַע֙ hearken šāmaʿ בְּקוֹל֙ unto the voice qôl יְהוָ֣ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm לִשְׁמֹ֤ר to observe šāmar לַֽעֲשׂוֹת֙ to do ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl מִצְוֹתָ֣יו his commandments miṣwâ וְחֻקֹּתָ֔יו and his statutes ḥuqqâ אֲשֶׁ֛ר which ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִ֥י I ʾānōkî מְצַוְּךָ֖ command ṣāwâ הַיּ֑וֹם thee this day; yôm וּבָ֧אוּ shall come bôʾ עָלֶ֛יךָ upon ʿal כָּל that all kōl הַקְּלָל֥וֹת curses qĕlālâ הָאֵ֖לֶּה these ʾēlle וְהִשִּׂיגֽוּךָ׃ thee, and overtake thee: nāśag

אָר֥וּר Cursed ʾārar אַתָּ֖ה thou ʾattâ בָּעִ֑יר in the city, ʿîr וְאָר֥וּר and cursed ʾārar אַתָּ֖ה thou ʾattâ בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ in the field. śāde

יְשַׁלַּ֣ח shall send šālaḥ יְהוָ֣ה׀ The Lord yĕhōwâ בְּ֠ךָ אֶת upon thee ʾēt הַמְּאֵרָ֤ה cursing, mĕʾērâ אֶת ʾēt הַמְּהוּמָה֙ vexation, mĕhûmâ וְאֶת ʾēt הַמִּגְעֶ֔רֶת and rebuke, migʿeret בְּכָל in all kōl מִשְׁלַ֥ח that thou settest mišlôaḥ יָֽדְךָ֖ thine hand yād אֲשֶׁ֣ר unto for ʾăšer תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֑ה to do, ʿāśâ עַ֣ד until ʿad הִשָּֽׁמֶדְךָ֤ thou be destroyed, šāmad וְעַד and until ʿad אֲבָדְךָ֙ thou perish ʾābad מַהֵ֔ר quickly; mahēr מִפְּנֵ֛י because pānîm רֹ֥עַ of the wickedness rōaʿ מַֽעֲלָלֶ֖יךָ of thy doings, maʿălāl אֲשֶׁ֥ר whereby ʾăšer עֲזַבְתָּֽנִי׃ thou hast forsaken me. ʿāzab

יַדְבֵּ֧ק cleave dābaq יְהוָ֛ה The Lord yĕhōwâ בְּךָ֖ אֶת shall make ʾēt הַדָּ֑בֶר the pestilence deber עַ֚ד unto thee, until ʿad כַּלֹּת֣וֹ he have consumed kālâ אֹֽתְךָ֔ ʾēt מֵעַל֙ thee from off ʿal הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה the land, ʾădāmâ אֲשֶׁר whither ʾăšer אַתָּ֥ה thou ʾattâ בָא goest bôʾ שָׁ֖מָּה šām לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ to possess it. yāraš

יַכְּכָ֣ה shall smite nākâ יְ֠הוָה The Lord yĕhōwâ בַּשַּׁחֶ֨פֶת thee with a consumption, šaḥepet וּבַקַּדַּ֜חַת and with a fever, qaddaḥat וּבַדַּלֶּ֗קֶת and with an inflammation, dalleqet וּבַֽחַרְחֻר֙ and with an extreme burning, ḥarḥur וּבַחֶ֔רֶב and with the sword, ḥereb וּבַשִּׁדָּפ֖וֹן and with blasting, šĕdēpâ וּבַיֵּֽרָק֑וֹן and with mildew; yērāqôn וּרְדָפ֖וּךָ and they shall pursue rādap עַ֥ד thee until ʿad אָבְדֶֽךָ׃ thou perish. ʾābad

וְהָי֥וּ shall be hāyâ שָׁמֶ֛יךָ And thy heaven šāmayim אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer עַל over ʿal רֹֽאשְׁךָ֖ thy head rōš נְחֹ֑שֶׁת brass, nĕḥōšet וְהָאָ֥רֶץ and the earth ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer תַּחְתֶּ֖יךָ under taḥat בַּרְזֶֽל׃ thee iron. barzel

יִתֵּ֧ן shall make nātan יְהוָ֛ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מְטַ֥ר the rain māṭar אַרְצְךָ֖ of thy land ʾereṣ אָבָ֣ק powder ʾābāq וְעָפָ֑ר and dust: ʿāpār מִן from min הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ heaven šāmayim יֵרֵ֣ד shall it come down yārad עָלֶ֔יךָ upon ʿal עַ֖ד thee, until ʿad הִשָּֽׁמְדָֽךְ׃ thou be destroyed. šāmad

יִתֶּנְךָ֙ shall cause nātan יְהוָ֥ה׀ The Lord yĕhōwâ נִגָּף֮ thee to be smitten nāgap לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm אֹֽיְבֶיךָ֒ thine enemies: ʾōyēb בְּדֶ֤רֶךְ way derek אֶחָד֙ one ʾeḥād תֵּצֵ֣א thou shalt go out yāṣāʾ אֵלָ֔יו against ʾēl וּבְשִׁבְעָ֥ה seven šebaʿ דְרָכִ֖ים ways derek תָּנ֣וּס them, and flee nûs לְפָנָ֑יו before pānîm וְהָיִ֣יתָ them: and shalt be hāyâ לְזַֽעֲוָ֔ה removed zaʿăwâ לְכֹ֖ל into all kōl מַמְלְכ֥וֹת the kingdoms mamlākâ הָאָֽרֶץ׃ of the earth. ʾereṣ

וְהָֽיְתָ֤ה shall be hāyâ נִבְלָֽתְךָ֙ And thy carcase nĕbēlâ לְמַֽאֲכָ֔ל meat maʾăkāl לְכָל unto all kōl ע֥וֹף fowls ʿôp הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם of the air, šāmayim וּלְבֶֽהֱמַ֣ת and unto the beasts bĕhēmâ הָאָ֑רֶץ of the earth, ʾereṣ וְאֵ֖ין and no man ʾayin מַֽחֲרִֽיד׃ shall fray away. ḥārad

יַכְּכָ֨ה will smite nākâ יְהוָ֜ה The Lord yĕhōwâ בִּשְׁחִ֤ין thee with the botch šĕḥîn מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ of Egypt, miṣrayim וּבַעְּפלִ֔ים and with the emerods, ʿōpel וּבַגָּרָ֖ב and with the scab, gārāb וּבֶחָ֑רֶס and with the itch, ḥeres אֲשֶׁ֥ר whereof ʾăšer לֹֽא not lōʾ תוּכַ֖ל thou canst yākōl לְהֵֽרָפֵֽא׃ be healed. rāpāʾ

יַכְּכָ֣ה shall smite nākâ יְהוָ֔ה The Lord yĕhōwâ בְּשִׁגָּע֖וֹן thee with madness, šiggāʿôn וּבְעִוָּר֑וֹן and blindness, ʿiwwārôn וּבְתִמְה֖וֹן and astonishment timmāhôn לֵבָֽב׃ of heart: lēbāb

וְהָיִ֜יתָ And thou shalt hāyâ מְמַשֵּׁ֣שׁ grope māšaš בַּֽצָּהֳרַ֗יִם at noonday, ṣōhar כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר as ʾăšer יְמַשֵּׁ֤שׁ gropeth māšaš הַֽעִוֵּר֙ the blind ʿiwwēr בָּֽאֲפֵלָ֔ה in darkness, ʾăpēlâ וְלֹ֥א and thou shalt not lōʾ תַצְלִ֖יחַ prosper ṣālaḥ אֶת ʾēt דְּרָכֶ֑יךָ in thy ways: derek וְהָיִ֜יתָ and thou shalt be hāyâ אַ֣ךְ only ʾak עָשׁ֧וּק oppressed ʿāšaq וְגָז֛וּל and spoiled gāzal כָּל kōl הַיָּמִ֖ים evermore, yôm וְאֵ֥ין and no man ʾayin מוֹשִֽׁיעַ׃ shall save yāšaʿ

אִשָּׁ֣ה a wife, ʾiššâ תְאָרֵ֗שׂ Thou shalt betroth ʾāraś וְאִ֤ישׁ man ʾîš אַחֵר֙ and another ʾaḥēr יִשְׁגָּלֶנָּה shall lie šāgal בַּ֥יִת an house, bayit תִּבְנֶ֖ה with her: thou shalt build bānâ וְלֹֽא and thou shalt not lōʾ תֵשֵׁ֣ב dwell yāšab בּ֑וֹ כֶּ֥רֶם a vineyard, kerem תִּטַּ֖ע therein: thou shalt plant nāṭaʿ וְלֹ֥א and shalt not lōʾ תְחַלְּלֶֽנּוּ׃ gather the grapes thereof. ḥālal

שֽׁוֹרְךָ֞ Thine ox šôr טָב֣וּחַ slain ṭābaḥ לְעֵינֶ֗יךָ before thine eyes, ʿayin וְלֹ֣א and thou shalt not lōʾ תֹאכַל֮ eat ʾākal מִמֶּנּוּ֒ thereof: min חֲמֹֽרְךָ֙ thine ass ḥămôr גָּז֣וּל violently taken away gāzal מִלְּפָנֶ֔יךָ from before thy face, pānîm וְלֹ֥א and shall not lōʾ יָשׁ֖וּב be restored šûb לָ֑ךְ צֹֽאנְךָ֙ to thee: thy sheep ṣōn נְתֻנ֣וֹת given nātan לְאֹֽיְבֶ֔יךָ unto thine enemies, ʾōyēb וְאֵ֥ין and thou shalt have none ʾayin לְךָ֖ מוֹשִֽׁיעַ׃ to rescue yāšaʿ

בָּנֶ֨יךָ Thy sons bēn וּבְנֹתֶ֜יךָ and thy daughters bat נְתֻנִ֨ים given nātan לְעַ֤ם people, ʿam אַחֵר֙ unto another ʾaḥēr וְעֵינֶ֣יךָ and thine eyes ʿayin רֹא֔וֹת shall look, rāʾâ וְכָל֥וֹת and fail kāle אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם for ʾēl כָּל them all kōl הַיּ֑וֹם the day yôm וְאֵ֥ין long: and no ʾayin לְאֵ֖ל might ʾēl יָדֶֽךָ׃ in thine hand. yād

פְּרִ֤י The fruit pĕrî אַדְמָֽתְךָ֙ of thy land, ʾădāmâ וְכָל and all kōl יְגִ֣יעֲךָ֔ thy labours, yĕgîaʿ יֹאכַ֥ל eat up; ʾākal עַ֖ם shall a nation ʿam אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא not lōʾ יָדָ֑עְתָּ thou knowest yādaʿ וְהָיִ֗יתָ and thou shalt be hāyâ רַ֛ק only raq עָשׁ֥וּק oppressed ʿāšaq וְרָצ֖וּץ and crushed rāṣaṣ כָּל kōl הַיָּמִֽים׃ alway: yôm

וְהָיִ֖יתָ So that thou shalt be hāyâ מְשֻׁגָּ֑ע mad šāgaʿ מִמַּרְאֵ֥ה for the sight marʾe עֵינֶ֖יךָ of thine eyes ʿayin אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer תִּרְאֶֽה׃ thou shalt see. rāʾâ

יַכְּכָ֨ה shall smite nākâ יְהוָ֜ה The Lord yĕhōwâ בִּשְׁחִ֣ין botch šĕḥîn רָ֗ע with a sore raʿ עַל thee in ʿal הַבִּרְכַּ֙יִם֙ the knees, berek וְעַל and in ʿal הַשֹּׁקַ֔יִם the legs, šôq אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer לֹֽא lōʾ תוּכַ֖ל cannot yākōl לְהֵֽרָפֵ֑א be healed, rāpāʾ מִכַּ֥ף from the sole kap רַגְלְךָ֖ of thy foot regel וְעַ֥ד unto ʿad קָדְקֳדֶֽךָ׃ the top of thy head. qodqōd

יוֹלֵ֨ךְ shall bring hālak יְהוָ֜ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אֹֽתְךָ֗ ʾēt וְאֶֽת ʾēt מַלְכְּךָ֙ thee, and thy king melek אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer תָּקִ֣ים thou shalt set qûm עָלֶ֔יךָ over ʿal אֶל thee, unto ʾēl גּ֕וֹי a nation gôy אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא neither lōʾ יָדַ֖עְתָּ have known; yādaʿ אַתָּ֣ה thou ʾattâ וַֽאֲבֹתֶ֑יךָ nor thy fathers ʾāb וְעָבַ֥דְתָּ shalt thou serve ʿābad שָּׁ֛ם and there šām אֱלֹהִ֥ים gods, ʾĕlōhîm אֲחֵרִ֖ים other ʾaḥēr עֵ֥ץ wood ʿēṣ וָאָֽבֶן׃ and stone. ʾeben

וְהָיִ֣יתָ And thou shalt become hāyâ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה an astonishment, šammâ לְמָשָׁ֖ל a proverb, māšāl וְלִשְׁנִינָ֑ה and a byword, šĕnînâ בְּכֹל֙ among all kōl הָֽעַמִּ֔ים nations ʿam אֲשֶׁר whither ʾăšer יְנַֽהֶגְךָ֥ shall lead thee. nāhag יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ שָֽׁמָּה׃ šām

זֶ֥רַע seed zeraʿ רַ֖ב much rab תּוֹצִ֣יא Thou shalt carry out yāṣāʾ הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה into the field, śāde וּמְעַ֣ט little mĕʿaṭ תֶּֽאֱסֹ֔ף and shalt gather in; ʾāsap כִּ֥י for kî יַחְסְלֶ֖נּוּ shall consume it. ḥāsal הָֽאַרְבֶּֽה׃ the locust ʾarbe

כְּרָמִ֥ים vineyards, kerem תִּטַּ֖ע Thou shalt plant nāṭaʿ וְעָבָ֑דְתָּ and dress ʿābad וְיַ֤יִן the wine, yayin לֹֽא but shalt neither lōʾ תִשְׁתֶּה֙ drink šātâ וְלֹ֣א nor lōʾ תֶֽאֱגֹ֔ר gather ʾāgar כִּ֥י for kî תֹֽאכְלֶ֖נּוּ shall eat them. ʾākal הַתֹּלָֽעַת׃ the worms tôlāʿ

זֵיתִ֛ים olive trees zayit יִֽהְי֥וּ Thou shalt have hāyâ לְךָ֖ בְּכָל throughout all kōl גְּבוּלֶ֑ךָ thy coasts, gĕbûl וְשֶׁ֙מֶן֙ with the oil; šemen לֹ֣א but thou shalt not lōʾ תָס֔וּךְ anoint sûk כִּ֥י for kî יִשַּׁ֖ל shall cast nāšal זֵיתֶֽךָ׃ thine olive zayit

בָּנִ֥ים sons bēn וּבָנ֖וֹת and daughters, bat תּוֹלִ֑יד Thou shalt beget yālad וְלֹֽא but thou shalt not lōʾ יִהְי֣וּ enjoy hāyâ לָ֔ךְ כִּ֥י them; for kî יֵֽלְכ֖וּ they shall go hālak בַּשֶּֽׁבִי׃ into captivity. šĕbî

כָּל All kōl עֵֽצְךָ֖ thy trees ʿēṣ וּפְרִ֣י and fruit pĕrî אַדְמָתֶ֑ךָ of thy land ʾădāmâ יְיָרֵ֖שׁ consume. yāraš הַצְּלָצַֽל׃ shall the locust ṣĕlāṣal

הַגֵּר֙ The stranger gēr אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בְּקִרְבְּךָ֔ within qereb יַֽעֲלֶ֥ה thee shall get up ʿālâ עָלֶ֖יךָ above ʿal מַ֣עְלָה thee very maʿal מָּ֑עְלָה high; maʿal וְאַתָּ֥ה and thou ʾattâ תֵרֵ֖ד shalt come down yārad מַ֥טָּה very maṭṭâ מָּֽטָּה׃ low. maṭṭâ

ה֣וּא He hûʾ יַלְוְךָ֔ shall lend lāwâ וְאַתָּ֖ה to thee, and thou ʾattâ לֹ֣א shalt not lōʾ תַלְוֶ֑נּוּ lend lāwâ ה֚וּא to him: he hûʾ יִֽהְיֶ֣ה shall be hāyâ לְרֹ֔אשׁ the head, rōš וְאַתָּ֖ה and thou ʾattâ תִּֽהְיֶ֥ה shalt be hāyâ לְזָנָֽב׃ the tail. zānāb

וּבָ֨אוּ shall come bôʾ עָלֶ֜יךָ upon ʿal כָּל Moreover all kōl הַקְּלָל֣וֹת curses qĕlālâ הָאֵ֗לֶּה these ʾēlle וּרְדָפ֙וּךָ֙ thee, and shall pursue rādap וְהִשִּׂיג֔וּךָ thee, and overtake nāśag עַ֖ד thee, till ʿad הִשָּֽׁמְדָ֑ךְ thou be destroyed; šāmad כִּי because kî לֹ֣א not lōʾ שָׁמַ֗עְתָּ thou hearkenedst šāmaʿ בְּקוֹל֙ unto the voice qôl יְהוָ֣ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm לִשְׁמֹ֛ר to keep šāmar מִצְוֹתָ֥יו his commandments miṣwâ וְחֻקֹּתָ֖יו and his statutes ḥuqqâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer צִוָּֽךְ׃ he commanded thee: ṣāwâ

וְהָי֣וּ And they shall be hāyâ בְךָ֔ לְא֖וֹת upon thee for a sign ʾôt וּלְמוֹפֵ֑ת and for a wonder, môpēt וּֽבְזַרְעֲךָ֖ and upon thy seed zeraʿ עַד for ʿad עוֹלָֽם׃ ever. ʿôlām

תַּ֗חַת Because taḥat אֲשֶׁ֤ר ʾăšer לֹֽא not lōʾ עָבַ֙דְתָּ֙ thou servedst ʿābad אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm בְּשִׂמְחָ֖ה with joyfulness, śimḥâ וּבְט֣וּב and with gladness ṭûb לֵבָ֑ב of heart, lēbāb מֵרֹ֖ב for the abundance rōb כֹּֽל׃ of all kōl

וְעָֽבַדְתָּ֣ Therefore shalt thou serve ʿābad אֶת ʾēt אֹֽיְבֶ֗יךָ thine enemies ʾōyēb אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer יְשַׁלְּחֶ֤נּוּ shall send šālaḥ יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ בָּ֔ךְ בְּרָעָ֧ב against thee, in hunger, rāʿāb וּבְצָמָ֛א and in thirst, ṣāmāʾ וּבְעֵירֹ֖ם and in nakedness, ʿêrōm וּבְחֹ֣סֶר and in want ḥōser כֹּ֑ל of all kōl וְנָתַ֞ן and he shall put nātan עֹ֤ל a yoke ʿōl בַּרְזֶל֙ of iron barzel עַל upon ʿal צַוָּארֶ֔ךָ thy neck, ṣawwār עַ֥ד until ʿad הִשְׁמִיד֖וֹ he have destroyed thee. šāmad אֹתָֽךְ׃ ʾēt

יִשָּׂ֣א shall bring nāśāʾ יְהוָה֩ The Lord yĕhōwâ עָלֶ֨יךָ against ʿal גּ֤וֹי a nation gôy מֵֽרָחֹק֙ thee from far, rāḥôq מִקְצֵ֣ה from the end qāṣe הָאָ֔רֶץ of the earth, ʾereṣ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer יִדְאֶ֖ה flieth; dāʾâ הַנָּ֑שֶׁר the eagle nešer גּ֕וֹי a nation gôy אֲשֶׁ֥ר whose ʾăšer לֹֽא thou shalt not lōʾ תִשְׁמַ֖ע understand; šāmaʿ לְשֹׁנֽוֹ׃ tongue lāšôn

גּ֖וֹי A nation gôy עַ֣ז of fierce ʿaz פָּנִ֑ים countenance, pānîm אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא shall not lōʾ יִשָּׂ֤א regard nāśāʾ פָנִים֙ the person pānîm לְזָקֵ֔ן of the old, zāqēn וְנַ֖עַר to the young: naʿar לֹ֥א nor lōʾ יָחֹֽן׃ shew favour ḥānan

וְ֠אָכַל And he shall eat ʾākal פְּרִ֨י the fruit pĕrî בְהֶמְתְּךָ֥ of thy cattle, bĕhēmâ וּפְרִֽי and the fruit pĕrî אַדְמָתְךָ֮ of thy land, ʾădāmâ עַ֣ד until ʿad הִשָּֽׁמְדָךְ֒ thou be destroyed: šāmad אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא shall not lōʾ יַשְׁאִ֜יר leave šāʾar לְךָ֗ דָּגָן֙ thee corn, dāgān תִּיר֣וֹשׁ wine, tîrôš וְיִצְהָ֔ר or oil, yiṣhār שְׁגַ֥ר the increase šeger אֲלָפֶ֖יךָ of thy kine, ʾelep וְעַשְׁתְּרֹ֣ת or flocks ʿaštĕrâ צֹאנֶ֑ךָ of thy sheep, ṣōn עַ֥ד until ʿad הַֽאֲבִיד֖וֹ he have destroyed thee. ʾābad אֹתָֽךְ׃ ʾēt

וְהֵצַ֨ר And he shall besiege ṣārar לְךָ֜ בְּכָל thee in all kōl שְׁעָרֶ֗יךָ thy gates, šaʿar עַ֣ד until ʿad רֶ֤דֶת come down, yārad חֹֽמֹתֶ֙יךָ֙ walls ḥômâ הַגְּבֹהֹ֣ת thy high gābōah וְהַבְּצֻר֔וֹת and fenced bāṣar אֲשֶׁ֥ר wherein ʾăšer אַתָּ֛ה thou ʾattâ בֹּטֵ֥חַ trustedst, bāṭaḥ בָּהֵ֖ן בְּכָל throughout all kōl אַרְצֶ֑ךָ thy land: ʾereṣ וְהֵצַ֤ר and he shall besiege ṣārar לְךָ֙ בְּכָל thee in all kōl שְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ thy gates šaʿar בְּכָ֨ל throughout all kōl אַרְצְךָ֔ thy land, ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer נָתַ֛ן hath given thee. nātan יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm לָֽךְ׃

וְאָֽכַלְתָּ֣ And thou shalt eat ʾākal פְרִֽי the fruit pĕrî בִטְנְךָ֗ of thine own body, beṭen בְּשַׂ֤ר the flesh bāśār בָּנֶ֙יךָ֙ of thy sons bēn וּבְנֹתֶ֔יךָ and of thy daughters, bat אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer נָֽתַן hath given nātan לְךָ֖ יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm בְּמָצוֹר֙ thee, in the siege, māṣôr וּבְמָצ֔וֹק and in the straitness, māṣôq אֲשֶׁר wherewith ʾăšer יָצִ֥יק shall distress thee: ṣûq לְךָ֖ אֹֽיְבֶֽךָ׃ thine enemies ʾōyēb

הָאִישׁ֙ the man ʾîš הָרַ֣ךְ tender rak בְּךָ֔ וְהֶֽעָנֹ֖ג delicate, ʿānōg מְאֹ֑ד among you, and very mĕʾōd תֵּרַ֨ע shall be evil rāʿaʿ עֵינ֤וֹ his eye ʿayin בְאָחִיו֙ toward his brother, ʾāḥ וּבְאֵ֣שֶׁת and toward the wife ʾiššâ חֵיק֔וֹ of his bosom, ḥêq וּבְיֶ֥תֶר and toward the remnant yeter בָּנָ֖יו of his children bēn אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer יוֹתִֽיר׃ he shall leave: yātar

מִתֵּ֣ת׀ So that he will not give nātan לְאַחַ֣ד to any ʾeḥād מֵהֶ֗ם hēm מִבְּשַׂ֤ר of them of the flesh bāśār בָּנָיו֙ of his children bēn אֲשֶׁ֣ר whom ʾăšer יֹאכֵ֔ל he shall eat: ʾākal מִבְּלִ֥י because bĕlî הִשְׁאִֽיר left šāʾar ל֖וֹ כֹּ֑ל he hath nothing kōl בְּמָצוֹר֙ him in the siege, māṣôr וּבְמָצ֔וֹק and in the straitness, māṣôq אֲשֶׁ֨ר wherewith ʾăšer יָצִ֥יק shall distress ṣûq לְךָ֛ אֹֽיִבְךָ֖ thine enemies ʾōyēb בְּכָל thee in all kōl שְׁעָרֶֽיךָ׃ thy gates. šaʿar

הָֽרַכָּ֨ה The tender rak בְךָ֜ וְהָֽעֲנֻגָּ֗ה and delicate woman ʿānōg אֲשֶׁ֨ר among you, which ʾăšer לֹֽא would not lōʾ נִסְּתָ֤ה adventure nāsâ כַף the sole kap רַגְלָהּ֙ of her foot regel הַצֵּ֣ג to set yāṣag עַל upon ʿal הָאָ֔רֶץ the ground ʾereṣ מֵֽהִתְעַנֵּ֖ג for delicateness ʿānag וּמֵרֹ֑ךְ and tenderness, rōk תֵּרַ֤ע shall be evil rāʿaʿ עֵינָהּ֙ her eye ʿayin בְּאִ֣ישׁ toward the husband ʾîš חֵיקָ֔הּ of her bosom, ḥêq וּבִבְנָ֖הּ and toward her son, bēn וּבְבִתָּֽהּ׃ and toward her daughter, bat

וּֽבְשִׁלְיָתָ֞הּ And toward her young one šilyâ הַיּוֹצֵ֣ת׀ that cometh out yāṣāʾ מִבֵּ֣ין from between bên רַגְלֶ֗יהָ her feet, regel וּבְבָנֶ֙יהָ֙ and toward her children bēn אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer תֵּלֵ֔ד she shall bear: yālad כִּֽי for kî תֹאכְלֵ֥ם she shall eat ʾākal בְּחֹֽסֶר them for want ḥōser כֹּ֖ל of all kōl בַּסָּ֑תֶר secretly sēter בְּמָצוֹר֙ in the siege māṣôr וּבְמָצ֔וֹק and straitness, māṣôq אֲשֶׁ֨ר wherewith ʾăšer יָצִ֥יק shall distress ṣûq לְךָ֛ אֹֽיִבְךָ֖ thine enemy ʾōyēb בִּשְׁעָרֶֽיךָ׃ thee in thy gates. šaʿar

אִם If ʾim לֹ֨א thou wilt not lōʾ תִשְׁמֹ֜ר observe šāmar לַֽעֲשׂ֗וֹת to do ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl דִּבְרֵי֙ the words dābār הַתּוֹרָ֣ה law tôrâ הַזֹּ֔את of this zōt הַכְּתֻבִ֖ים that are written kātab בַּסֵּ֣פֶר book, sēper הַזֶּ֑ה in this ze לְ֠יִרְאָה that thou mayest fear yārēʾ אֶת ʾēt הַשֵּׁ֞ם name, šēm הַנִּכְבָּ֤ד glorious kābad וְהַנּוֹרָא֙ and fearful yārēʾ הַזֶּ֔ה this ze אֵ֖ת ʾēt יְהוָ֥ה THE LORD yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ THY GOD; ʾĕlōhîm

וְהִפְלָ֤א will make pālāʾ יְהוָה֙ Then the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מַכֹּ֣תְךָ֔ thy plagues makkâ וְאֵ֖ת ʾēt מַכּ֣וֹת wonderful, and the plagues makkâ זַרְעֶ֑ךָ of thy seed, zeraʿ מַכּ֤וֹת plagues, makkâ גְּדֹלֹת֙ great gādôl וְנֶ֣אֱמָנ֔וֹת and of long continuance, ʾāman וָֽחֳלָיִ֥ם sicknesses, ḥŏlî רָעִ֖ים and sore raʿ וְנֶֽאֱמָנִֽים׃ and of long continuance. ʾāman

וְהֵשִׁ֣יב Moreover he will bring šûb בְּךָ֗ אֵ֚ת upon thee ʾēt כָּל all kōl מַדְוֵ֣ה the diseases madwe מִצְרַ֔יִם of Egypt, miṣrayim אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer יָגֹ֖רְתָּ thou wast afraid yāgōr מִפְּנֵיהֶ֑ם of; pānîm וְדָֽבְק֖וּ and they shall cleave unto thee. dābaq בָּֽךְ׃

גַּ֤ם Also gam כָּל every kōl חֳלִי֙ sickness, ḥŏlî וְכָל and every kōl מַכָּ֔ה plague, makkâ אֲשֶׁר֙ which ʾăšer לֹ֣א not lōʾ כָת֔וּב written kātab בְּסֵ֖פֶר in the book sēper הַתּוֹרָ֣ה law, tôrâ הַזֹּ֑את of this zōt יַעְלֵ֤ם bring ʿālâ יְהוָה֙ them will the Lord yĕhōwâ עָלֶ֔יךָ upon ʿal עַ֖ד thee, until ʿad הִשָּֽׁמְדָֽךְ׃ thou be destroyed. šāmad

וְנִשְׁאַרְתֶּם֙ And ye shall be left šāʾar בִּמְתֵ֣י in number, mat מְעָ֔ט few mĕʿaṭ תַּ֚חַת taḥat אֲשֶׁ֣ר whereas ʾăšer הֱיִיתֶ֔ם ye were hāyâ כְּכֽוֹכְבֵ֥י as the stars kôkāb הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם of heaven šāmayim לָרֹ֑ב for multitude; rōb כִּי because kî לֹ֣א thou wouldest not lōʾ שָׁמַ֔עְתָּ obey šāmaʿ בְּק֖וֹל the voice qôl יְהוָ֥ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ thy God. ʾĕlōhîm

וְ֠הָיָה And it shall come to pass, hāyâ כַּֽאֲשֶׁר as ʾăšer שָׂ֨שׂ rejoiced śûś יְהוָ֜ה the Lord yĕhōwâ עֲלֵיכֶ֗ם over ʿal לְהֵיטִ֣יב you to do you good, yāṭab אֶתְכֶם֮ ʾēt וּלְהַרְבּ֣וֹת and to multiply rābâ אֶתְכֶם֒ ʾēt כֵּ֣ן you; so kēn יָשִׂ֤ישׂ will rejoice śûś יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם over ʿal לְהַֽאֲבִ֥יד you to destroy ʾābad אֶתְכֶ֖ם ʾēt וּלְהַשְׁמִ֣יד you, and to bring you to nought; šāmad אֶתְכֶ֑ם ʾēt וְנִסַּחְתֶּם֙ and ye shall be plucked nāsaḥ מֵעַ֣ל from off ʿal הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה the land ʾădāmâ אֲשֶׁר whither ʾăšer אַתָּ֥ה thou ʾattâ בָא goest bôʾ שָׁ֖מָּה šām לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ to possess it. yāraš

וֶהֱפִֽיצְךָ֤ shall scatter pûṣ יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּכָל thee among all kōl הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים people, ʿam מִקְצֵ֥ה from the one end qāṣe הָאָ֖רֶץ of the earth ʾereṣ וְעַד even unto ʿad קְצֵ֣ה the other; qāṣe הָאָ֑רֶץ ʾereṣ וְעָבַ֨דְתָּ thou shalt serve ʿābad שָּׁ֜ם and there šām אֱלֹהִ֣ים gods, ʾĕlōhîm אֲחֵרִ֗ים other ʾaḥēr אֲשֶׁ֧ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא neither lōʾ יָדַ֛עְתָּ have known, yādaʿ אַתָּ֥ה thou ʾattâ וַֽאֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ nor thy fathers ʾāb עֵ֥ץ wood ʿēṣ וָאָֽבֶן׃ and stone. ʾeben

וּבַגּוֹיִ֤ם nations gôy הָהֵם֙ And among these hēm לֹ֣א lōʾ תַרְגִּ֔יעַ shalt thou find no ease, rāgaʿ וְלֹֽא neither lōʾ יִהְיֶ֥ה have hāyâ מָנ֖וֹחַ rest: mānôaḥ לְכַף shall the sole kap רַגְלֶ֑ךָ of thy foot regel וְנָתַן֩ shall give nātan יְהוָ֨ה but the Lord yĕhōwâ לְךָ֥ שָׁם֙ thee there šām לֵ֣ב heart, lēb רַגָּ֔ז a trembling raggāz וְכִלְי֥וֹן and failing killāyôn עֵינַ֖יִם of eyes, ʿayin וְדַֽאֲב֥וֹן and sorrow dĕʾābôn נָֽפֶשׁ׃ of mind: nepeš

וְהָי֣וּ hāyâ חַיֶּ֔יךָ And thy life ḥay תְּלֻאִ֥ים shall hang tālāʾ לְךָ֖ מִנֶּ֑גֶד in doubt before neged וּפָֽחַדְתָּ֙ thee; and thou shalt fear pāḥad לַ֣יְלָה and night, layil וְיוֹמָ֔ם day yômām וְלֹ֥א lōʾ תַֽאֲמִ֖ין and shalt have none assurance ʾāman בְּחַיֶּֽיךָ׃ of thy life: ḥay

בַּבֹּ֤קֶר In the morning bōqer תֹּאמַר֙ thou shalt say, ʾāmar מִֽי Would God mî יִתֵּ֣ן it were nātan עֶ֔רֶב even! ʿereb וּבָעֶ֥רֶב and at even ʿereb תֹּאמַ֖ר thou shalt say, ʾāmar מִֽי mî יִתֵּ֣ן Would God it were nātan בֹּ֑קֶר morning! bōqer מִפַּ֤חַד for the fear paḥad לְבָֽבְךָ֙ of thine heart lēbāb אֲשֶׁ֣ר wherewith ʾăšer תִּפְחָ֔ד thou shalt fear, pāḥad וּמִמַּרְאֵ֥ה and for the sight marʾe עֵינֶ֖יךָ of thine eyes ʿayin אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer תִּרְאֶֽה׃ thou shalt see. rāʾâ

וֶהֱשִֽׁיבְךָ֙ shall bring šûb יְהוָ֥ה׀ And the Lord yĕhōwâ מִצְרַיִם֮ thee into Egypt miṣrayim בָּֽאֳנִיּוֹת֒ again with ships, ʾŏniyyâ בַּדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ by the way derek אֲשֶׁ֣ר whereof ʾăšer אָמַ֣רְתִּֽי I spake ʾāmar לְךָ֔ לֹֽא it no lōʾ תֹסִ֥יף more again: yāsap ע֖וֹד ʿôd לִרְאֹתָ֑הּ unto thee, Thou shalt see rāʾâ וְהִתְמַכַּרְתֶּ֨ם ye shall be sold mākar שָׁ֧ם and there šām לְאֹֽיְבֶ֛יךָ unto your enemies ʾōyēb לַֽעֲבָדִ֥ים for bondmen ʿebed וְלִשְׁפָח֖וֹת and bondwomen, šipḥâ וְאֵ֥ין and no man ʾayin קֹנֶֽה׃ shall buy qānâ
