כֹּ֤ה Thus kō הִרְאַ֙נִי֙ shewed rāʾâ אֲדֹנָ֣י hath the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֔ה God yĕhōwi וְהִנֵּה֙ unto me; and, behold, hinnē יוֹצֵ֣ר he formed yāṣar גֹּבַ֔י grasshoppers gôb בִּתְחִלַּ֖ת in the beginning tĕḥillâ עֲל֣וֹת of the shooting up ʿālâ הַלָּ֑קֶשׁ of the latter growth; leqeš וְהִ֨נֵּה and, lo, hinnē לֶ֔קֶשׁ the latter growth leqeš אַחַ֖ר after ʾaḥar גִּזֵּ֥י mowings. gēz הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king's melek

וְהָיָ֗ה And it came to pass, hāyâ אִם when ʾim כִּלָּה֙ they had made an end kālâ לֶֽאֱכוֹל֙ of eating ʾākal אֶת ʾēt עֵ֣שֶׂב the grass ʿeśeb הָאָ֔רֶץ of the land, ʾereṣ וָאֹמַ֗ר then I said, ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֤י O Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִה֙ God, yĕhōwâ סְֽלַֽח forgive, sālaḥ נָ֔א I beseech thee: nāʾ מִ֥י by whom mî יָק֖וּם arise? qûm יַֽעֲקֹ֑ב shall Jacob yaʿăqōb כִּ֥י for kî קָטֹ֖ן small. qāṭān הֽוּא׃ he hûʾ

נִחַ֥ם repented nāḥam יְהוָ֖ה The Lord yĕhōwâ עַל for ʿal זֹ֑את this: zōt לֹ֥א It shall not lōʾ תִהְיֶ֖ה be, hāyâ אָמַ֥ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord. yĕhōwâ

כֹּ֤ה Thus kō הִרְאַ֙נִי֙ shewed rāʾâ אֲדֹנָ֣י hath the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֔ה God yĕhōwi וְהִנֵּ֥ה unto me: and, behold, hinnē קֹרֵ֛א called qārāʾ לָרִ֥ב to contend rîb בָּאֵ֖שׁ by fire, ʾēš אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֑ה God yĕhōwi וַתֹּ֙אכַל֙ and it devoured ʾākal אֶת ʾēt תְּה֣וֹם deep, tĕhôm רַבָּ֔ה the great rab וְאָכְלָ֖ה and did eat up ʾākal אֶת ʾēt הַחֵֽלֶק׃ a part. ḥēleq

וָאֹמַ֗ר Then said ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֤י I, O Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִה֙ God, yĕhōwi חֲדַל cease, ḥādal נָ֔א I beseech thee: nāʾ מִ֥י by whom mî יָק֖וּם arise? qûm יַעֲקֹ֑ב shall Jacob yaʿăqōb כִּ֥י for kî קָטֹ֖ן small. qāṭān הֽוּא׃ he hûʾ

נִחַ֥ם repented nāḥam יְהוָ֖ה The Lord yĕhōwâ עַל for ʿal זֹ֑את this: zōt גַּם also gam הִיא֙ This hûʾ לֹ֣א shall not lōʾ תִֽהְיֶ֔ה be, hāyâ אָמַ֖ר saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֥י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִֽה׃ God. yĕhōwi

כֹּ֣ה Thus kō הִרְאַ֔נִי he shewed rāʾâ וְהִנֵּ֧ה me: and, behold, hinnē אֲדֹנָ֛י the Lord ʾădōnāy נִצָּ֖ב stood nāṣab עַל upon ʿal חוֹמַ֣ת a wall ḥômâ אֲנָ֑ךְ by a plumbline, ʾănok וּבְיָד֖וֹ in his hand. yād אֲנָֽךְ׃ with a plumbline ʾănok

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָ֜ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֗י unto ʾēl מָֽה what mâ אַתָּ֤ה thou? ʾattâ רֹאֶה֙ seest rāʾâ עָמ֔וֹס me, Amos, ʿāmôs וָאֹמַ֖ר And I said, ʾāmar אֲנָ֑ךְ A plumbline. ʾănok וַיֹּ֣אמֶר Then said ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֗י the Lord, ʾădōnāy הִנְנִ֨י Behold, hēn שָׂ֤ם I will set śûm אֲנָךְ֙ a plumbline ʾănok בְּקֶ֙רֶב֙ in the midst qereb עַמִּ֣י of my people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel: yiśrāʾēl לֹֽא I will not lōʾ אוֹסִ֥יף again yāsap ע֖וֹד ʿôd עֲב֥וֹר pass by them any more: ʿābar לֽוֹ׃

וְנָשַׁ֙מּוּ֙ shall be desolate, šāmēm בָּמ֣וֹת And the high places bāmâ יִשְׂחָ֔ק of Isaac yiśḥāq וּמִקְדְּשֵׁ֥י and the sanctuaries miqdoš יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl יֶחֱרָ֑בוּ shall be laid waste; ḥārab וְקַמְתִּ֛י and I will rise qûm עַל against ʿal בֵּ֥ית the house bayit יָרָבְעָ֖ם of Jeroboam yorobʿām בֶּחָֽרֶב׃ with the sword. ḥereb

וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח sent šālaḥ אֲמַצְיָה֙ Then Amaziah ʾămaṣyâ כֹּהֵ֣ן the priest kōhēn בֵּֽית אֵ֔ל of Beth-el bêt ʾēl אֶל to ʾēl יָרָבְעָ֥ם Jeroboam yorobʿām מֶֽלֶךְ king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar קָשַׁ֨ר hath conspired qāšar עָלֶ֜יךָ against ʿal עָמ֗וֹס Amos ʿāmôs בְּקֶ֙רֶב֙ thee in the midst qereb בֵּ֣ית of the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel: yiśrāʾēl לֹא lōʾ תוּכַ֣ל is not able yākōl הָאָ֔רֶץ the land ʾereṣ לְהָכִ֖יל to bear kûl אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl דְּבָרָֽיו׃ his words. dābār

כִּי For kî כֹה֙ thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith, ʾāmar עָמ֔וֹס Amos ʿāmôs בַּחֶ֖רֶב by the sword, ḥereb יָמ֣וּת shall die mût יָרָבְעָ֑ם Jeroboam yorobʿām וְיִ֨שְׂרָאֵ֔ל and Israel yiśrāʾēl גָּלֹ֥ה shall surely gālâ יִגְלֶ֖ה be led away captive gālâ מֵעַ֥ל out of ʿal אַדְמָתֽוֹ׃ their own land. ʾădāmâ

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar אֲמַצְיָה֙ Also Amaziah ʾămaṣyâ אֶל unto ʾēl עָמ֔וֹס Amos, ʿāmôs חֹזֶ֕ה O thou seer, ḥōze לֵ֥ךְ go, hālak בְּרַח flee thee away bāraḥ לְךָ֖ אֶל into ʾēl אֶ֣רֶץ the land ʾereṣ יְהוּדָ֑ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וֶאֱכָל eat ʾākal שָׁ֣ם and there šām לֶ֔חֶם bread, leḥem וְשָׁ֖ם šām תִּנָּבֵֽא׃ and prophesy there: nābāʾ

וּבֵֽית אֵ֔ל at Beth-el: bêt ʾēl לֹֽא not lōʾ תוֹסִ֥יף again yāsap ע֖וֹד any more ʿôd לְהִנָּבֵ֑א But prophesy nābāʾ כִּ֤י for kî מִקְדַּשׁ chapel, miqdoš מֶ֙לֶךְ֙ the king's melek ה֔וּא it hûʾ וּבֵ֥ית court. bayit מַמְלָכָ֖ה the king's mamlākâ הֽוּא׃ and it hûʾ

וַיַּ֤עַן Then answered ʿānâ עָמוֹס֙ Amos, ʿāmôs וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and said ʾāmar אֶל to ʾēl אֲמַצְיָ֔ה Amaziah, ʾămaṣyâ לֹא no lōʾ נָבִ֣יא prophet, nābîʾ אָנֹ֔כִי I ʾānōkî וְלֹ֥א neither lōʾ בֶן son; bēn נָבִ֖יא a prophet's nābîʾ אָנֹ֑כִי I ʾānōkî כִּֽי but kî בוֹקֵ֥ר an herdman, bôqēr אָנֹ֖כִי I ʾānōkî וּבוֹלֵ֥ס and a gatherer bālas שִׁקְמִֽים׃ of sycomore fruit: šiqmâ

וַיִּקָּחֵ֣נִי took lāqaḥ יְהוָ֔ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ מֵאַחֲרֵ֖י me as I followed ʾaḥar הַצֹּ֑אן the flock, ṣōn וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar אֵלַי֙ unto ʾēl יְהוָ֔ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ לֵ֥ךְ me, Go, hālak הִנָּבֵ֖א prophesy nābāʾ אֶל unto ʾēl עַמִּ֥י my people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וְעַתָּ֖ה Now ʿattâ שְׁמַ֣ע therefore hear šāmaʿ דְּבַר thou the word dābār יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord: yĕhōwâ אַתָּ֣ה Thou ʾattâ אֹמֵ֗ר sayest, ʾāmar לֹ֤א not lōʾ תִנָּבֵא֙ Prophesy nābāʾ עַל against ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl וְלֹ֥א not lōʾ תַטִּ֖יף and drop nāṭap עַל against ʿal בֵּ֥ית the house bayit יִשְׂחָֽק׃ of Isaac. yiśḥāq

לָכֵ֞ן Therefore kēn כֹּה thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֗ה the Lord; yĕhōwâ אִשְׁתְּךָ֞ Thy wife ʾiššâ בָּעִ֤יר in the city, ʿîr תִּזְנֶה֙ shall be an harlot zānâ וּבָנֶ֤יךָ and thy sons bēn וּבְנֹתֶ֙יךָ֙ and thy daughters bat בַּחֶ֣רֶב by the sword, ḥereb יִפֹּ֔לוּ shall fall nāpal וְאַדְמָתְךָ֖ and thy land ʾădāmâ בַּחֶ֣בֶל by line; ḥebel תְּחֻלָּ֑ק shall be divided ḥālaq וְאַתָּ֗ה and thou ʾattâ עַל in ʿal אֲדָמָ֤ה land: ʾădāmâ טְמֵאָה֙ a polluted ṭāmēʾ תָּמ֔וּת shalt die mût וְיִ֨שְׂרָאֵ֔ל and Israel yiśrāʾēl גָּלֹ֥ה shall surely gālâ יִגְלֶ֖ה go into captivity gālâ מֵעַ֥ל forth of ʿal אַדְמָתֽוֹ׃ his land. ʾădāmâ
