וַיַּ֣ךְ And he smote nākâ אֶת ʾēt מוֹאָ֗ב Moab, môʾāb וַֽיְמַדְּדֵ֤ם and measured mādad בַּחֶ֙בֶל֙ them with a line, ḥebel הַשְׁכֵּ֣ב casting them down šākab אוֹתָ֣ם ʾēt אַ֔רְצָה to the ground; ʾereṣ וַיְמַדֵּ֤ד measured mādad שְׁנֵֽי even with two šĕnayim חֲבָלִים֙ lines ḥebel לְהָמִ֔ית he to put to death, mût וּמְלֹ֥א and with one full mĕlōʾ הַחֶ֖בֶל line ḥebel לְהַֽחֲי֑וֹת to keep alive. ḥāyâ וַתְּהִ֤י became hāyâ מוֹאָב֙ And the Moabites môʾāb לְדָוִ֔ד David's dāwid לַֽעֲבָדִ֖ים servants, ʿebed נֹֽשְׂאֵ֥י brought nāśāʾ מִנְחָֽה׃ gifts. minḥâ

וַיַּ֣ךְ smote nākâ דָּוִ֔ד David dāwid אֶת also ʾēt הֲדַדְעֶ֥זֶר Hadadezer, hădadʿezer בֶּן the son bēn רְחֹ֖ב of Rehob, rĕḥōb מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek צוֹבָ֑ה of Zobah, ṣôbāʾ בְּלֶכְתּ֕וֹ as he went hālak לְהָשִׁ֥יב to recover šûb יָד֖וֹ his border yād בִּֽנְהַר at the river nāhār פְּרָֽת׃ Euphrates. pĕrāt

וַיִּלְכֹּ֨ד took lākad דָּוִ֜ד And David dāwid מִמֶּ֗נּוּ from min אֶ֤לֶף him a thousand ʾelep וּשְׁבַע and seven šebaʿ מֵאוֹת֙ hundred mēʾâ פָּֽרָשִׁ֔ים horsemen, pāroš וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים and twenty ʿeśrîm אֶ֖לֶף thousand ʾelep אִ֣ישׁ footmen: ʾîš רַגְלִ֑י raglî וַיְעַקֵּ֤ר houghed ʿāqar דָּוִד֙ and David dāwid אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הָרֶ֔כֶב the chariot rekeb וַיּוֹתֵ֥ר but reserved yātar מִמֶּ֖נּוּ of min מֵ֥אָה them an hundred mēʾâ רָֽכֶב׃ chariots. rekeb

וַתָּבֹא֙ came bôʾ אֲרַ֣ם And when the Syrians ʾărām דַּמֶּ֔שֶׂק of Damascus dammeśeq לַעְזֹ֕ר to succour ʿāzar לַֽהֲדַדְעֶ֖זֶר Hadadezer hădadʿezer מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek צוֹבָ֑ה of Zobah, ṣôbāʾ וַיַּ֤ךְ slew nākâ דָּוִד֙ David dāwid בַּֽאֲרָ֔ם of the Syrians ʾărām עֶשְׂרִֽים and twenty ʿeśrîm וּשְׁנַ֥יִם two šĕnayim אֶ֖לֶף thousand ʾelep אִֽישׁ׃ men. ʾîš

וַיָּ֨שֶׂם put śûm דָּוִ֤ד Then David dāwid נְצִבִים֙ garrisons nĕṣîb בַּֽאֲרַ֣ם in Syria ʾărām דַּמֶּ֔שֶׂק of Damascus: dammeśeq וַתְּהִ֤י became hāyâ אֲרָם֙ and the Syrians ʾărām לְדָוִ֔ד to David, dāwid לַֽעֲבָדִ֖ים servants ʿebed נֽוֹשְׂאֵ֣י brought nāśāʾ מִנְחָ֑ה gifts. minḥâ וַיֹּ֤שַׁע preserved yāšaʿ יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt דָּוִ֔ד David dāwid בְּכֹ֖ל whithersoever kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר ʾăšer הָלָֽךְ׃ he went. hālak

וַיִּקַּ֣ח took lāqaḥ דָּוִ֗ד And David dāwid אֵ֚ת ʾēt שִׁלְטֵ֣י the shields šeleṭ הַזָּהָ֔ב of gold zāhāb אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer הָי֔וּ were hāyâ אֶ֖ל on ʾēl עַבְדֵ֣י the servants ʿebed הֲדַדְעָ֑זֶר of Hadadezer, hădadʿezer וַיְבִיאֵ֖ם and brought bôʾ יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ them to Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim

וּמִבֶּ֥טַח And from Betah, beṭaḥ וּמִבֵּֽרֹתַ֖י and from Berothai, bērôtâ עָרֵ֣י cities ʿîr הֲדַדְעָ֑זֶר of Hadadezer, hădadʿezer לָקַ֞ח took lāqaḥ הַמֶּ֧לֶךְ king melek דָּוִ֛ד David dāwid נְחֹ֖שֶׁת brass. nĕḥōšet הַרְבֵּ֥ה much rābâ מְאֹֽד׃ exceeding mĕʾōd

וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח sent šālaḥ תֹּ֣עִי Then Toi tōʿû אֶת ʾēt יֽוֹרָם Joram yôrām בְּנ֣וֹ his son bēn אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּֽלֶךְ king melek דָּ֠וִד David, dāwid לִשְׁאָל to salute šāʾal ל֨וֹ לְשָׁל֜וֹם šālôm וּֽלְבָרֲכ֗וֹ him, and to bless bārak עַל֩ him, because ʿal אֲשֶׁ֨ר ʾăšer נִלְחַ֤ם he had fought lāḥam בַּֽהֲדַדְעֶ֙זֶר֙ against Hadadezer, hădadʿezer וַיַּכֵּ֔הוּ and smitten nākâ כִּי him: for kî אִ֛ישׁ wars ʾîš מִלְחֲמ֥וֹת milḥāmâ תֹּ֖עִי with Toi. tōʿû הָיָ֣ה had hāyâ הֲדַדְעָ֑זֶר Hadadezer hădadʿezer וּבְיָד֗וֹ with him yād הָי֛וּ And brought hāyâ כְּלֵי vessels kĕlî כֶ֥סֶף of silver, kesep וּכְלֵֽי and vessels kĕlî זָהָ֖ב of gold, zāhāb וּכְלֵ֥י and vessels kĕlî נְחֹֽשֶׁת׃ of brass: nĕḥōšet

גַּם Which also gam אֹתָ֕ם ʾēt הִקְדִּ֛ישׁ did dedicate qādaš הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ king melek דָּוִ֖ד David dāwid לַֽיהוָ֑ה unto the Lord, yĕhōwâ עִם with ʿim הַכֶּ֤סֶף the silver kesep וְהַזָּהָב֙ and gold zāhāb אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer הִקְדִּ֔ישׁ he had dedicated qādaš מִכָּל of all kōl הַגּוֹיִ֖ם nations gôy אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer כִּבֵּֽשׁ׃ he subdued; kābaš

מֵֽאֲרָ֤ם Of Syria, ʾărām וּמִמּוֹאָב֙ and of Moab, môʾāb וּמִבְּנֵ֣י and of the children bēn עַמּ֔וֹן of Ammon, ʿammôn וּמִפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים and of the Philistines, pĕlištî וּמֵֽעֲמָלֵ֑ק and of Amalek, ʿămālēq וּמִשְּׁלַ֛ל and of the spoil šālāl הֲדַדְעֶ֥זֶר of Hadadezer, hădadʿezer בֶּן son bēn רְחֹ֖ב of Rehob, rĕḥōb מֶ֥לֶךְ king melek צוֹבָֽה׃ of Zobah. ṣôbāʾ

וַיַּ֤עַשׂ gat ʿāśâ דָּוִד֙ And David dāwid שֵׁ֔ם a name šēm בְּשֻׁב֕וֹ when he returned šûb מֵֽהַכּוֹת֥וֹ from smiting nākâ אֶת of ʾēt אֲרָ֖ם the Syrians ʾărām בְּגֵיא in the valley gayʾ מֶ֑לַח of salt, melaḥ שְׁמוֹנָ֥ה eighteen šĕmōne עָשָׂ֖ר ʿāśār אָֽלֶף׃ thousand ʾelep

וַיָּ֨שֶׂם And he put śûm בֶּֽאֱד֜וֹם in Edom; ʾĕdōm נְצִבִ֗ים garrisons nĕṣîb בְּכָל throughout all kōl אֱדוֹם֙ Edom ʾĕdōm שָׂ֣ם put śûm נְצִבִ֔ים he garrisons, nĕṣîb וַיְהִ֥י became hāyâ כָל and all kōl אֱד֖וֹם they of Edom ʾĕdōm עֲבָדִ֣ים servants. ʿebed לְדָוִ֑ד David's dāwid וַיּ֤וֹשַׁע preserved yāšaʿ יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt דָּוִ֔ד David dāwid בְּכֹ֖ל whithersoever kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר ʾăšer הָלָֽךְ׃ he went. hālak

וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ reigned mālak דָּוִ֖ד And David dāwid עַל over ʿal כָּל all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel; yiśrāʾēl וַיְהִ֣י hāyâ דָוִ֗ד and David dāwid עֹשֶׂ֛ה executed ʿāśâ מִשְׁפָּ֥ט judgment mišpāṭ וּצְדָקָ֖ה and justice ṣĕdāqâ לְכָל unto all kōl עַמּֽוֹ׃ his people. ʿam

וְיוֹאָ֥ב And Joab yôʾāb בֶּן the son bēn צְרוּיָ֖ה of Zeruiah ṣĕrûyâ עַל over ʿal הַצָּבָ֑א the host; ṣābāʾ וִיהֽוֹשָׁפָ֥ט and Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ בֶּן the son bēn אֲחִיל֖וּד of Ahilud ʾăḥîlûd מַזְכִּֽיר׃ recorder; zākar

וְצָד֧וֹק And Zadok ṣādôq בֶּן the son bēn אֲחִיט֛וּב of Ahitub, ʾăḥîṭûb וַֽאֲחִימֶ֥לֶךְ and Ahimelech ʾăḥîmelek בֶּן the son bēn אֶבְיָתָ֖ר of Abiathar, ʾebyātār כֹּֽהֲנִ֑ים the priests; kōhēn וּשְׂרָיָ֖ה and Seraiah śĕrāyâ סוֹפֵֽר׃ the scribe; sāpar

וּבְנָיָ֙הוּ֙ And Benaiah bĕnāyâ בֶּן the son bēn יְה֣וֹיָדָ֔ע of Jehoiada yĕhôyādāʿ וְהַכְּרֵתִ֖י both the Cherethites kĕrētî וְהַפְּלֵתִ֑י and the Pelethites; pĕlētî וּבְנֵ֥י sons bēn דָוִ֖ד and David's dāwid כֹּֽהֲנִ֥ים chief rulers. kōhēn הָיֽוּ׃ were hāyâ
