וַיֹּ֨סֶף gathered yāsap ע֥וֹד Again, ʿôd דָּוִ֛ד David dāwid אֶת together ʾēt כָּל all kōl בָּח֥וּר chosen bāḥar בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים thirty šĕlôšîm אָֽלֶף׃ thousand. ʾelep

וַיָּ֣קָם׀ arose, qûm וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ and went hālak דָּוִ֗ד And David dāwid וְכָל with all kōl הָעָם֙ the people ʿam אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer אִתּ֔וֹ with ʾēt מִֽבַּעֲלֵ֖י יְהוּדָ֑ה him from Baale baʿălê yĕhûdâ לְהַֽעֲל֣וֹת of Judah, to bring up ʿālâ מִשָּׁ֗ם from thence šām אֵ֚ת ʾēt אֲר֣וֹן the ark ʾārôn הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁר whose ʾăšer נִקְרָ֣א is called qārāʾ שֵׁ֗ם name šēm שֵׁ֣ם by the name šēm יְהוָ֧ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֛וֹת of hosts ṣābāʾ יֹשֵׁ֥ב that dwelleth yāšab הַכְּרֻבִ֖ים the cherubims. kĕrûb עָלָֽיו׃ ʿal

וַיַּרְכִּ֜בוּ And they set rākab אֶת ʾēt אֲר֤וֹן the ark ʾārôn הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ of God ʾĕlōhîm אֶל upon ʾēl עֲגָלָ֣ה cart, ʿăgālâ חֲדָשָׁ֔ה a new ḥādoš וַיִּשָּׂאֻ֔הוּ and brought nāśāʾ מִבֵּ֥ית it out of the house bayit אֲבִֽינָדָ֖ב of Abinadab ʾăbînādāb אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בַּגִּבְעָ֑ה in Gibeah: gibʿâ וְעֻזָּ֣א and Uzzah ʿuzzāʾ וְאַחְי֗וֹ and Ahio, ʾaḥyô בְּנֵי֙ the sons bēn אֲבִ֣ינָדָ֔ב of Abinadab, ʾăbînādāb נֹֽהֲגִ֖ים drave nāhag אֶת ʾēt הָֽעֲגָלָ֥ה cart. ʿăgālâ חֲדָשָֽׁה׃ the new ḥādoš

וַיִּשָּׂאֻ֗הוּ And they brought nāśāʾ מִבֵּ֤ית it out of the house bayit אֲבִֽינָדָב֙ of Abinadab ʾăbînādāb אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer בַּגִּבְעָ֔ה at Gibeah, gibʿâ עִ֖ם accompanying ʿim אֲר֣וֹן the ark ʾārôn הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים of God: ʾĕlōhîm וְאַחְי֕וֹ and Ahio ʾaḥyô הֹלֵ֖ךְ went hālak לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm הָֽאָרֽוֹן׃ the ark. ʾārôn

וְדָוִ֣ד׀ And David dāwid וְכָל and all kōl בֵּ֣ית the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מְשַֽׂחֲקִים֙ played śāḥaq לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm יְהוָ֔ה the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּכֹ֖ל on all kōl עֲצֵ֣י wood, ʿēṣ בְרוֹשִׁ֑ים manner of fir bĕrôš וּבְכִנֹּר֤וֹת even on harps, kinnôr וּבִנְבָלִים֙ and on psalteries, nebel וּבְתֻפִּ֔ים and on timbrels, tōp וּבִמְנַֽעַנְעִ֖ים and on cornets, mĕnaʿnaʿ וּֽבְצֶלְצֶלִֽים׃ and on cymbals. ṣĕlāṣal

וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ And when they came bôʾ עַד to ʿad גֹּ֣רֶן threshingfloor, gōren נָכ֑וֹן Nachon's nākôn וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח put forth šālaḥ עֻזָּ֜ה Uzzah ʿuzzāʾ אֶל to ʾēl אֲר֤וֹן the ark ʾārôn הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ of God, ʾĕlōhîm וַיֹּ֣אחֶז and took hold ʾāḥaz בּ֔וֹ כִּ֥י of it; for kî שָֽׁמְט֖וּ shook šāmaṭ הַבָּקָֽר׃ the oxen bāqār

וַיִּֽחַר was kindled ḥārâ אַ֤ף And the anger ʾap יְהוָה֙ of the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּעֻזָּ֔ה against Uzzah; ʿuzzāʾ וַיַּכֵּ֥הוּ smote nākâ שָׁ֛ם him there šām הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים and God ʾĕlōhîm עַל for ʿal הַשַּׁ֑ל error; šal וַיָּ֣מָת he died mût שָׁ֔ם and there šām עִ֖ם by ʿim אֲר֥וֹן the ark ʾārôn הָֽאֱלֹהִֽים׃ of God. ʾĕlōhîm

וַיִּ֣חַר was displeased, ḥārâ לְדָוִ֔ד And David dāwid עַל֩ because ʿal אֲשֶׁ֨ר ʾăšer פָּרַ֧ץ had made pāraṣ יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ פֶּ֖רֶץ a breach pereṣ בְּעֻזָּ֑ה upon Uzzah: ʿuzzāʾ וַיִּקְרָ֞א and he called qārāʾ לַמָּק֤וֹם place māqôm הַהוּא֙ the name of the hûʾ פֶּ֣רֶץ עֻזָּ֔ה Perez-uzzah pereṣ ʿuzzāʾ עַ֖ד to ʿad הַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וַיִּרָ֥א was afraid yārēʾ דָוִ֛ד And David dāwid אֶת of ʾēt יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ בַּיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַה֑וּא that hûʾ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר and said, ʾāmar אֵ֛יךְ How ʾêk יָב֥וֹא come bôʾ אֵלַ֖י to me? ʾēl אֲר֥וֹן shall the ark ʾārôn יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord yĕhōwâ

וְלֹֽא not lōʾ אָבָ֣ה would ʾābâ דָוִ֗ד So David dāwid לְהָסִ֥יר remove sûr אֵלָ֛יו unto ʾēl אֶת ʾēt אֲר֥וֹן the ark ʾārôn יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ עַל him into ʿal עִ֣יר the city ʿîr דָּוִ֑ד of David: dāwid וַיַּטֵּ֣הוּ carried it aside nāṭâ דָוִ֔ד but David dāwid בֵּ֥ית into the house bayit עֹבֵֽד אֱדֹ֖ם of Obed-edom ʿōbēd ʾĕdôm הַגִּתִּֽי׃ the Gittite. gittî

וַיֵּשֶׁב֩ continued yāšab אֲר֨וֹן And the ark ʾārôn יְהוָ֜ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ בֵּ֣ית in the house bayit עֹבֵ֥ד אֱדֹ֛ם of Obed-edom ʿōbēd ʾĕdôm הַגִּתִּ֖י the Gittite gittî שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה three šālôš חֳדָשִׁ֑ים months: ḥōdeš וַיְבָ֧רֶךְ blessed bārak יְהוָ֛ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt עֹבֵ֥ד אֱדֹ֖ם Obed-edom, ʿōbēd ʾĕdôm וְאֶת ʾēt כָּל and all kōl בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ his household. bayit

וַיֻּגַּ֗ד And it was told nāgad לַמֶּ֣לֶךְ king melek דָּוִד֮ David, dāwid לֵאמֹר֒ saying, ʾāmar בֵּרַ֣ךְ hath blessed bārak יְהוָ֗ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt בֵּ֨ית the house bayit עֹבֵ֤ד אֱדֹם֙ of Obed-edom, ʿōbēd ʾĕdôm וְאֶת ʾēt כָּל and all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer ל֔וֹ בַּֽעֲב֖וּר unto him, because ʿābûr אֲר֣וֹן of the ark ʾārôn הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים of God. ʾĕlōhîm וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ went hālak דָּוִ֗ד So David dāwid וַיַּעַל֩ and brought up ʿālâ אֶת ʾēt אֲר֨וֹן the ark ʾārôn הָֽאֱלֹהִ֜ים of God ʾĕlōhîm מִבֵּ֨ית from the house bayit עֹבֵ֥ד אֱדֹ֛ם of Obed-edom ʿōbēd ʾĕdôm עִ֥יר into the city ʿîr דָּוִ֖ד of David dāwid בְּשִׂמְחָֽה׃ with gladness. śimḥâ

וַיְהִ֗י And it was hāyâ כִּ֧י that when kî צָֽעֲד֛וּ had gone ṣāʿad נֹֽשְׂאֵ֥י they that bare nāśāʾ אֲרוֹן the ark ʾārôn יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ שִׁשָּׁ֣ה six šēš צְעָדִ֑ים paces, ṣaʿad וַיִּזְבַּ֥ח he sacrificed zābaḥ שׁ֖וֹר oxen šôr וּמְרִֽיא׃ and fatlings. mĕrîʾ

וְדָוִ֛ד And David dāwid מְכַרְכֵּ֥ר danced kārar בְּכָל with all kōl עֹ֖ז might; ʿōz לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm יְהוָ֑ה the Lord yĕhōwâ וְדָוִ֕ד and David dāwid חָג֖וּר girded ḥāgar אֵפ֥וֹד ephod. ʾēpôd בָּֽד׃ with a linen bad

וְדָוִד֙ So David dāwid וְכָל and all kōl בֵּ֣ית the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מַֽעֲלִ֖ים brought up ʿālâ אֶת ʾēt אֲר֣וֹן the ark ʾārôn יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ בִּתְרוּעָ֖ה with shouting, tĕrûʿâ וּבְק֥וֹל and with the sound qôl שׁוֹפָֽר׃ of the trumpet. šôpār

וְהָיָה֙ And as hāyâ אֲר֣וֹן the ark ʾārôn יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ בָּ֖א came bôʾ עִ֣יר into the city ʿîr דָּוִ֑ד of David, dāwid וּמִיכַ֨ל Michal mîkāl בַּת daughter bat שָׁא֜וּל Saul's šāʾûl נִשְׁקְפָ֣ה׀ looked šāqap בְּעַ֣ד through bĕʿad הַֽחַלּ֗וֹן a window, ḥallôn וַתֵּ֨רֶא and saw rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ king melek דָּוִד֙ David dāwid מְפַזֵּ֤ז leaping pāzaz וּמְכַרְכֵּר֙ and dancing kārar לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm יְהוָ֔ה the Lord; yĕhōwâ וַתִּ֥בֶז and she despised bāzâ ל֖וֹ בְּלִבָּֽהּ׃ him in her heart. lēb

וַיָּבִ֜אוּ And they brought in bôʾ אֶת ʾēt אֲר֣וֹן the ark ʾārôn יְהוָ֗ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיַּצִּ֤גוּ and set yāṣag אֹתוֹ֙ ʾēt בִּמְקוֹמ֔וֹ it in his place, māqôm בְּת֣וֹךְ in the midst tāwek הָאֹ֔הֶל of the tabernacle ʾōhel אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer נָֽטָה had pitched nāṭâ ל֖וֹ דָּוִ֑ד David dāwid וַיַּ֨עַל offered ʿālâ דָּוִ֥ד for it: and David dāwid עֹל֛וֹת burnt offerings ʿōlâ לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm יְהוָ֖ה the Lord. yĕhōwâ וּשְׁלָמִֽים׃ and peace offerings šelem

וַיְכַ֣ל had made an end kālâ דָּוִ֔ד And as soon as David dāwid מֵהַֽעֲל֥וֹת of offering ʿālâ הָֽעוֹלָ֖ה burnt offerings ʿōlâ וְהַשְּׁלָמִ֑ים and peace offerings, šelem וַיְבָ֣רֶךְ he blessed bārak אֶת ʾēt הָעָ֔ם the people ʿam בְּשֵׁ֖ם in the name šēm יְהוָ֥ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָאֽוֹת׃ of hosts. ṣābāʾ

וַיְחַלֵּ֨ק And he dealt ḥālaq לְכָל among all kōl הָעָ֜ם the people, ʿam לְכָל among the whole kōl הֲמ֣וֹן multitude hāmôn יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl לְמֵאִ֣ישׁ as men, ʾîš וְעַד as well to ʿad אִשָּׁה֒ the women ʾiššâ לְאִ֗ישׁ to every one ʾîš חַלַּ֥ת cake ḥallâ לֶ֙חֶם֙ of bread, leḥem אַחַ֔ת a ʾeḥād וְאֶשְׁפָּ֣ר good piece ʾešpār אֶחָ֔ד and a ʾeḥād וַֽאֲשִׁישָׁ֖ה flagon ʾăšîšâ אֶחָ֑ת and a ʾeḥād וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ departed hālak כָּל So all kōl הָעָ֖ם the people ʿam אִ֥ישׁ every one ʾîš לְבֵיתֽוֹ׃ to his house. bayit

וַיָּ֥שָׁב returned šûb דָּוִ֖ד Then David dāwid לְבָרֵ֣ךְ to bless bārak אֶת ʾēt בֵּית֑וֹ his household. bayit וַתֵּצֵ֞א came out yāṣāʾ מִיכַ֤ל And Michal mîkāl בַּת the daughter bat שָׁאוּל֙ of Saul šāʾûl לִקְרַ֣את to meet qirʾâ דָּוִ֔ד David, dāwid וַתֹּ֗אמֶר and said, ʾāmar מַה How mâ נִּכְבַּ֨ד glorious kābad הַיּ֜וֹם to day, yôm מֶ֣לֶךְ was the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁ֨ר who ʾăšer נִגְלָ֤ה uncovered himself gālâ הַיּוֹם֙ to day yôm לְעֵינֵ֨י in the eyes ʿayin אַמְה֣וֹת of the handmaids ʾāmâ עֲבָדָ֔יו of his servants, ʿebed כְּהִגָּל֥וֹת shamelessly uncovereth himself! gālâ נִגְל֖וֹת gālâ אַחַ֥ד as one ʾeḥād הָרֵקִֽים׃ of the vain fellows rêq

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said ʾāmar דָּוִד֮ And David dāwid אֶל unto ʾēl מִיכַל֒ Michal, mîkāl לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm יְהוָ֗ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer בָּֽחַר chose bāḥar בִּ֤י מֵֽאָבִיךְ֙ me before thy father, ʾāb וּמִכָּל and before all kōl בֵּית֔וֹ his house, bayit לְצַוֹּ֨ת to appoint ṣāwâ אֹתִ֥י ʾēt נָגִ֛יד me ruler nāgîd עַל over ʿal עַ֥ם the people ʿam יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ עַל over ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel: yiśrāʾēl וְשִֽׂחַקְתִּ֖י therefore will I play śāḥaq לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וּנְקַלֹּ֤תִי be more vile qālal עוֹד֙ And I will yet ʿôd מִזֹּ֔את than thus, zōt וְהָיִ֥יתִי and will be hāyâ שָׁפָ֖ל base šāpāl בְּעֵינָ֑י in mine own sight: ʿayin וְעִם and of ʿim הָֽאֲמָהוֹת֙ the maidservants ʾāmâ אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer אָמַ֔רְתְּ thou hast spoken ʾāmar עִמָּ֖ם ʿim אִכָּבֵֽדָה׃ of, of them shall I be had in honour. kābad

וּלְמִיכַל֙ Therefore Michal mîkāl בַּת the daughter bat שָׁא֔וּל of Saul šāʾûl לֹא no lōʾ הָ֥יָה had hāyâ לָ֖הּ יָ֑לֶד child yeled עַ֖ד unto ʿad י֥וֹם the day yôm מוֹתָֽהּ׃ of her death. māwet
