וְאֵ֛לֶּה Now these ʾēlle דִּבְרֵ֥י words dābār דָוִ֖ד of David. dāwid הָאַֽחֲרֹנִ֑ים the last ʾaḥărôn נְאֻ֧ם said, nĕʾum דָּוִ֣ד David dāwid בֶּן the son bēn יִשַׁ֗י of Jesse yišay וּנְאֻ֤ם said, nĕʾum הַגֶּ֙בֶר֙ and the man geber הֻ֣קַם raised up qûm עָ֔ל on high, ʿal מְשִׁ֙יחַ֙ the anointed māšîaḥ אֱלֹהֵ֣י of the God ʾĕlōhîm יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב of Jacob, yaʿăqōb וּנְעִ֖ים and the sweet nāʿîm זְמִר֥וֹת psalmist zāmîr יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl

ר֥וּחַ The Spirit rûaḥ יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ דִּבֶּר spake dābar בִּ֑י וּמִלָּת֖וֹ by me, and his word millâ עַל in ʿal לְשׁוֹנִֽי׃ my tongue. lāšôn

אָמַר֙ said, ʾāmar אֱלֹהֵ֣י The God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl לִ֥י דִבֶּ֖ר spake dābar צ֣וּר the Rock ṣûr יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מוֹשֵׁל֙ to me, He that ruleth over māšal בָּֽאָדָ֔ם men ʾādām צַדִּ֕יק just, ṣaddîq מוֹשֵׁ֖ל ruling māšal יִרְאַ֥ת in the fear yirʾâ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ of God. ʾĕlōhîm

וּכְא֥וֹר And as the light ʾôr בֹּ֖קֶר of the morning, bōqer יִזְרַח riseth, zāraḥ שָׁ֑מֶשׁ the sun šemeš בֹּ֚קֶר a morning bōqer לֹ֣א without lōʾ עָב֔וֹת clouds; ʿāb מִנֹּ֥גַהּ by clear shining nōgah מִמָּטָ֖ר after rain. māṭar דֶּ֥שֶׁא the tender grass dešeʾ מֵאָֽרֶץ׃ out of the earth ʾereṣ

כִּֽי Although kî לֹא not lōʾ כֵ֥ן so kēn בֵּיתִ֖י my house bayit עִם with ʿim אֵ֑ל God; ʾēl כִּי֩ yet kî בְרִ֨ית covenant, bĕrît עוֹלָ֜ם with me an everlasting ʿôlām שָׂ֣ם he hath made śûm לִ֗י עֲרוּכָ֤ה ordered ʿārak בַכֹּל֙ in all kōl וּשְׁמֻרָ֔ה and sure: šāmar כִּֽי for kî כָל all kōl יִשְׁעִ֥י my salvation, yešaʿ וְכָל and all kōl חֵ֖פֶץ desire, ḥēpeṣ כִּי although kî לֹ֥א he make not lōʾ יַצְמִֽיחַ׃ to grow. ṣāmaḥ

וּבְלִיַּ֕עַל But of Belial bĕliyyaʿal כְּק֥וֹץ of them as thorns qôṣ מֻנָ֖ד thrust away, nādad כֻּלָּ֑הַם all kōl כִּי because kî לֹ֥א they cannot lōʾ בְיָ֖ד with hands: yād יִקָּֽחוּ׃ be taken lāqaḥ

וְאִישׁ֙ But the man ʾîš יִגַּ֣ע shall touch nāgaʿ בָּהֶ֔ם יִמָּלֵ֥א them must be fenced mālēʾ בַרְזֶ֖ל with iron barzel וְעֵ֣ץ and the staff ʿēṣ חֲנִ֑ית of a spear; ḥănît וּבָאֵ֕שׁ with fire ʾēš שָׂר֥וֹף and they shall be utterly śārap יִשָּֽׂרְפ֖וּ burned śārap בַּשָּֽׁבֶת׃ in the place. šebet

אֵ֛לֶּה These ʾēlle שְׁמ֥וֹת the names šēm הַגִּבֹּרִ֖ים of the mighty men gibbôr אֲשֶׁ֣ר whom ʾăšer לְדָוִ֑ד David dāwid יֹשֵׁ֨ב that sat yāšab בַּשֶּׁ֜בֶת in the seat, šebet תַּחְכְּמֹנִ֣י׀ had: The Tachmonite taḥkĕmōnî רֹ֣אשׁ chief rōš הַשָּֽׁלִשִׁ֗י among the captains; šālîš ה֚וּא the same hûʾ עֲדִינ֣וֹ Adino ʿădînô הָֽעֶצְנִ֔ו the Eznite: ʿēṣen עַל against ʿal שְׁמֹנֶ֥ה eight šĕmōne מֵא֛וֹת hundred, mēʾâ חָלָ֖ל whom he slew ḥālāl בְּפַ֥עַם time. paʿam אֶחָֽד׃ at one ʾeḥād

וְאַֽחֲרָ֛ו And after ʾaḥar אֶלְעָזָ֥ר him Eleazar ʾelʿāzār בֶּן the son bēn דֹּד֖יֹ of Dodo dôdô בֶּן bēn אֲחֹחִ֑י the Ahohite, ʾăḥôḥî בִּשְׁלֹשָׁ֨ה of the three šālôš גִּבֹּרִ֜ים mighty men gibbôr עִם with ʿim דָּוִ֗ד David, dāwid בְּחָֽרְפָ֤ם when they defied ḥārap בַּפְּלִשְׁתִּים the Philistines pĕlištî נֶֽאֶסְפוּ gathered together ʾāsap שָׁ֣ם were there šām לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה to battle, milḥāmâ וַֽיַּעֲל֖וּ were gone away: ʿālâ אִ֥ישׁ and the men ʾîš יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel yiśrāʾēl

ה֣וּא He hûʾ קָם֩ arose, qûm וַיַּ֨ךְ and smote nākâ בַּפְּלִשְׁתִּ֜ים the Philistines pĕlištî עַ֣ד׀ ʿad כִּֽי until kî יָגְעָ֣ה was weary, yāgaʿ יָד֗וֹ his hand yād וַתִּדְבַּ֤ק clave dābaq יָדוֹ֙ and his hand yād אֶל unto ʾēl הַחֶ֔רֶב the sword: ḥereb וַיַּ֧עַשׂ wrought ʿāśâ יְהוָ֛ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ תְּשׁוּעָ֥ה victory tĕšûʿâ גְדוֹלָ֖ה a great gādôl בַּיּ֣וֹם day; yôm הַה֑וּא that hûʾ וְהָעָ֛ם and the people ʿam יָשֻׁ֥בוּ returned šûb אַֽחֲרָ֖יו after ʾaḥar אַךְ him only ʾak לְפַשֵּֽׁט׃ to spoil. pāšaṭ

וְאַֽחֲרָ֛יו And after ʾaḥar שַׁמָּ֥ה him Shammah šammâ בֶן the son bēn אָגֵ֖א of Agee ʾāgēʾ הָֽרָרִ֑י the Hararite. hărārî וַיֵּאָֽסְפ֨וּ were gathered together ʾāsap פְלִשְׁתִּ֜ים And the Philistines pĕlištî לַחַיָּ֗ה into a troop, ḥay וַתְּהִי was hāyâ שָׁ֞ם where šām חֶלְקַ֤ת a piece ḥelqâ הַשָּׂדֶה֙ of ground śāde מְלֵאָ֣ה full mālēʾ עֲדָשִׁ֔ים of lentiles: ʿādoš וְהָעָ֥ם and the people ʿam נָ֖ס fled nûs מִפְּנֵ֥י from pānîm פְלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ the Philistines. pĕlištî

וַיִּתְיַצֵּ֤ב But he stood yāṣab בְּתוֹךְ in the midst tāwek הַֽחֶלְקָה֙ of the ground, ḥelqâ וַיַּצִּילֶ֔הָ and defended nāṣal וַיַּ֖ךְ it, and slew nākâ אֶת ʾēt פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים the Philistines: pĕlištî וַיַּ֥עַשׂ wrought ʿāśâ יְהוָ֖ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ תְּשׁוּעָ֥ה victory. tĕšûʿâ גְדוֹלָֽה׃ a great gādôl

וַיֵּֽרְד֨וּ went down, yārad שְׁלֹשָׁ֜ים And three šālôš מֵֽהַשְּׁלֹשִׁ֣ים of the thirty šĕlôšîm רֹ֗אשׁ chief rōš וַיָּבֹ֤אוּ and came bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl קָצִיר֙ the harvest time qāṣîr אֶל in ʾēl דָּוִ֔ד David dāwid אֶל unto ʾēl מְעָרַ֖ת the cave mĕʿārâ עֲדֻלָּ֑ם of Adullam: ʿădullām וְחַיַּ֣ת and the troop ḥay פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים of the Philistines pĕlištî חֹנָ֖ה pitched ḥānâ בְּעֵ֥מֶק in the valley ʿēmeq רְפָאִֽים׃ of Rephaim. rāpāʾ

וְדָוִ֖ד And David dāwid אָ֣ז then ʾāz בַּמְּצוּדָ֑ה in an hold, māṣûd וּמַצַּ֣ב and the garrison maṣṣāb פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים of the Philistines pĕlištî אָ֖ז then ʾāz בֵּ֥ית לָֽחֶם׃ Bethlehem. bêt leḥem

וַיִּתְאַוֶּ֥ה longed, ʾāwâ דָוִ֖ד And David dāwid וַיֹּאמַ֑ר and said, ʾāmar מִ֚י Oh that one mî יַשְׁקֵ֣נִי would give me drink šāqâ מַ֔יִם of the water mayim מִבֹּ֥אר of the well bôr בֵּֽית לֶ֖חֶם of Bethlehem, bêt leḥem אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer בַּשָּֽׁעַר׃ by the gate! šaʿar

וַיִּבְקְעוּ֩ brake through bāqaʿ שְׁלֹ֨שֶׁת And the three šālôš הַגִּבֹּרִ֜ים mighty men gibbôr בְּמַֽחֲנֵ֣ה the host maḥăne פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים of the Philistines, pĕlištî וַיִּֽשְׁאֲבוּ and drew šāʾab מַ֙יִם֙ water mayim מִבֹּ֤אר out of the well bôr בֵּֽית לֶ֙חֶם֙ of Bethlehem, bêt leḥem אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בַּשַּׁ֔עַר by the gate, šaʿar וַיִּשְׂא֖וּ and took nāśāʾ וַיָּבִ֣אוּ and brought bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl דָּוִ֑ד David: dāwid וְלֹ֤א not lōʾ אָבָה֙ nevertheless he would ʾābâ לִשְׁתּוֹתָ֔ם drink šātâ וַיַּסֵּ֥ךְ thereof, but poured it out nāsak אֹתָ֖ם ʾēt לַֽיהוָֽה׃ unto the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַיֹּ֡אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar חָלִילָה֩ Be it far ḥālîlâ לִּ֨י יְהוָ֜ה from me, O Lord, yĕhōwâ מֵֽעֲשֹׂ֣תִי that I should do ʿāśâ זֹ֗את this: zōt הֲדַ֤ם the blood dām הָֽאֲנָשִׁים֙ of the men ʾĕnôš הַהֹֽלְכִ֣ים that went hālak בְּנַפְשׁוֹתָ֔ם in jeopardy of their lives? nepeš וְלֹ֥א not lōʾ אָבָ֖ה therefore he would ʾābâ לִשְׁתּוֹתָ֑ם drink šātâ אֵ֣לֶּה it. These ʾēlle עָשׂ֔וּ things did ʿāśâ שְׁלֹ֖שֶׁת these three šālôš הַגִּבֹּרִֽים׃ mighty men. gibbôr

וַֽאֲבִישַׁ֞י And Abishai, ʾăbîšay אֲחִ֣י׀ the brother ʾāḥ יוֹאָ֣ב of Joab, yôʾāb בֶּן the son bēn צְרוּיָ֗ה of Zeruiah, ṣĕrûyâ ה֚וּא And he hûʾ רֹ֣אשׁ was chief rōš הַשְּׁלֹשָׁ֔י among three. šĕlîšî וְהוּא֙ hûʾ עוֹרֵ֣ר lifted up ʿûr אֶת ʾēt חֲנִית֔וֹ his spear ḥănît עַל against ʿal שְׁלֹ֥שׁ three šālôš מֵא֖וֹת hundred, mēʾâ חָלָ֑ל slew ḥālāl וְלוֹ שֵׁ֖ם and had the name šēm בַּשְּׁלֹשָֽׁה׃ among three. šālôš

מִן most min הַשְּׁלֹשָׁה֙ of three? šālôš הֲכִ֣י Was he not kî נִכְבָּ֔ד honourable kābad וַיְהִ֥י therefore he was hāyâ לָהֶ֖ם לְשָׂ֑ר their captain: śar וְעַד unto ʿad הַשְּׁלֹשָׁ֖ה the three. šālôš לֹא not lōʾ בָֽא׃ howbeit he attained bôʾ

וּבְנָיָ֨הוּ And Benaiah bĕnāyâ בֶן the son bēn יְהֽוֹיָדָ֧ע of Jehoiada, yĕhôyādāʿ בֶּן the son bēn אִֽישׁ man, ʾîš חַ֛יִ of a valiant ḥayil רַב who had done many rab פְּעָלִ֖ים acts, pōʿal מִֽקַּבְצְאֵ֑ל of Kabzeel, qabṣĕʾēl ה֣וּא he hûʾ הִכָּ֗ה slew nākâ אֵ֣ת ʾēt שְׁנֵ֤י two šĕnayim אֲרִאֵל֙ lionlike men ʾărîʾēl מוֹאָ֔ב of Moab: môʾāb וְ֠הוּא he hûʾ יָרַ֞ד went down yārad וְהִכָּ֧ה also and slew nākâ אֶֽת ʾēt הָאֲרִ֛יה a lion ʾărî בְּת֥וֹךְ in the midst tāwek הַבֹּ֖אר of a pit bôr בְּי֥וֹם in time yôm הַשָּֽׁלֶג׃ of snow: šeleg

וְהוּא And he hûʾ הִכָּה֩ slew nākâ אֶת ʾēt אִ֨ישׁ man: ʾîš מִצְרִ֜י an Egyptian, miṣrî אִ֣שׁר ʾăšer מַרְאֶ֗ה a goodly marʾe וּבְיַ֤ד in his hand; yād הַמִּצְרִי֙ and the Egyptian miṣrî חֲנִ֔ית had a spear ḥănît וַיֵּ֥רֶד but he went down yārad אֵלָ֖יו to ʾēl בַּשָּׁ֑בֶט him with a staff, šēbeṭ וַיִּגְזֹ֤ל and plucked gāzal אֶֽת ʾēt הַחֲנִית֙ the spear ḥănît מִיַּ֣ד hand, yād הַמִּצְרִ֔י out of the Egyptian's miṣrî וַיַּֽהַרְגֵ֖הוּ and slew hārag בַּֽחֲנִיתֽוֹ׃ him with his own spear. ḥănît

אֵ֣לֶּה These ʾēlle עָשָׂ֔ה did ʿāśâ בְּנָיָ֖הוּ Benaiah bĕnāyâ בֶּן the son bēn יְהֽוֹיָדָ֑ע of Jehoiada, yĕhôyādāʿ וְלוֹ שֵׁ֖ם and had the name šēm בִּשְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה among three šālôš הַגִּבֹּרִֽים׃ mighty men. gibbôr

מִן than min הַשְּׁלֹשִׁ֣ים the thirty, šĕlôšîm נִכְבָּ֔ד He was more honourable kābad וְאֶל to ʾēl הַשְּׁלֹשָׁ֖ה the three. šālôš לֹא not lōʾ בָ֑א but he attained bôʾ וַיְשִׂמֵ֥הוּ set śûm דָוִ֖ד And David dāwid אֶל him over ʾēl מִשְׁמַעְתּֽוֹ׃ his guard. mišmaʿat

עֲשָׂהאֵ֥ל Asahel ʿăśohʾēl אֲחִֽי the brother ʾāḥ יוֹאָ֖ב of Joab yôʾāb בַּשְּׁלֹשִׁ֑ים one of the thirty; šĕlôšîm אֶלְחָנָ֥ן Elhanan ʾelḥānān בֶּן the son bēn דֹּד֖וֹ of Dodo dôdô בֵּ֥ית לָֽחֶם׃ of Bethlehem, bêt leḥem

שַׁמָּה֙ Shammah šammâ הַֽחֲרֹדִ֔י the Harodite, ḥărōdî אֱלִיקָ֖א Elika ʾĕlîqāʾ הַֽחֲרֹדִֽי׃ the Harodite, ḥărōdî

חֶ֚לֶץ Helez ḥeleṣ הַפַּלְטִ֔י the Paltite, palṭî עִירָ֥א Ira ʿîrāʾ בֶן the son bēn עִקֵּ֖שׁ of Ikkesh ʿiqqēš הַתְּקוֹעִֽי׃ the Tekoite, tĕqôʿî

אֲבִיעֶ֙זֶר֙ Abiezer ʾăbîʿezer הָֽעַנְּתֹתִ֔י the Anethothite, ʿantōtî מְבֻנַּ֖י Mebunnai mĕbunnay הַֽחֻשָׁתִֽי׃ the Hushathite, ḥušātî

צַלְמוֹן֙ Zalmon ṣalmôn הָֽאֲחֹחִ֔י the Ahohite, ʾăḥôḥî מַהְרַ֖י Maharai mahăray הַנְּטֹֽפָתִֽי׃ the Netophathite, nĕṭōpātî

חֵ֥לֶב Heleb ḥēleb בֶּֽן the son bēn בַּעֲנָ֖ה of Baanah, baʿănâ הַנְּטֹֽפָתִ֑י a Netophathite, nĕṭōpātî אִתַּי֙ Ittai ʾittay בֶּן the son bēn רִיבַ֔י of Ribai rîbay מִגִּבְעַ֖ת out of Gibeah gibʿâ בְּנֵ֥י of the children bēn בִנְיָמִֽן׃ of Benjamin, binyāmîn

בְּנָיָ֙הוּ֙ Benaiah bĕnāyâ פִּרְעָ֣תֹנִ֔י the Pirathonite, pirʿātônî הִדַּ֖י Hiddai hidday מִנַּ֥חֲלֵי of the brooks naḥal גָֽעַשׁ׃ of Gaash, gaʿaš

אֲבִֽי עַלְבוֹן֙ Abi-albon ʾăbî ʿalbôn הָֽעַרְבָתִ֔י the Arbathite, ʿarbātî עַזְמָ֖וֶת Azmaveth ʿazmāwet הַבַּרְחֻמִֽי׃ the Barhumite, barḥumî

אֶלְיַחְבָּא֙ Eliahba ʾelyaḥbāʾ הַשַּׁ֣עַלְבֹנִ֔י the Shaalbonite, šaʿalbōnî בְּנֵ֥י of the sons bēn יָשֵׁ֖ן of Jashen, yāšēn יְהֽוֹנָתָֽן׃ Jonathan, yĕhônātān

שַׁמָּה֙ Shammah šammâ הַֽהֲרָרִ֔י the Hararite, hărārî אֲחִיאָ֥ם Ahiam ʾăḥîʾām בֶּן the son bēn שָׁרָ֖ר of Sharar šārar הָֽארָרִֽי׃ the Hararite, hărārî

אֱלִיפֶ֥לֶט Eliphelet ʾĕlîpeleṭ בֶּן the son bēn אֲחַסְבַּ֖י of Ahasbai, ʾăḥasbay בֶּן the son bēn הַמַּֽעֲכָתִ֑י of the Maachathite, maʿăkātî אֱלִיעָ֥ם Eliam ʾĕlîʿām בֶּן the son bēn אֲחִיתֹ֖פֶל of Ahithophel ʾăḥîtōpel הַגִּלֹנִֽי׃ the Gilonite, gîlōnî

חֶצְרַו֙ Hezrai ḥeṣrô הַֽכַּרְמְלִ֔י the Carmelite, karmĕlî פַּֽעֲרַ֖י Paarai paʿăray הָֽאַרְבִּֽי׃ the Arbite, ʾarbî

יִגְאָ֤ל Igal yigʾāl בֶּן the son bēn נָתָן֙ of Nathan nātān מִצֹּבָ֔ה of Zobah, ṣôbāʾ בָּנִ֖י Bani bānî הַגָּדִֽי׃ the Gadite, gādî

צֶ֖לֶק Zelek ṣeleq הָֽעַמֹּנִ֑י the Ammonite, ʿammônî נַחְרַי֙ Naharai naḥăray הַבְּאֵ֣רֹתִ֔י the Beerothite, bĕʾērōtî נֹשֵׂ֕אי armourbearer nāśāʾ כְּלֵ֖י kĕlî יוֹאָ֥ב to Joab yôʾāb בֶּן the son bēn צְרֻיָֽה׃ of Zeruiah, ṣĕrûyâ

עִירָא֙ Ira ʿîrāʾ הַיִּתְרִ֔י an Ithrite, yitrî גָּרֵ֖ב Gareb gārēb הַיִּתְרִֽי׃ an Ithrite, yitrî

אֽוּרִיָּה֙ Uriah ʾûriyyâ הַֽחִתִּ֔י the Hittite: ḥittî כֹּ֖ל in all. kōl שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים thirty šĕlôšîm וְשִׁבְעָֽה׃ and seven šebaʿ
