וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר spake dābar דָּוִד֙ And David dāwid לַֽיהוָ֔ה unto the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt דִּבְרֵ֖י the words dābār הַשִּׁירָ֣ה song šîr הַזֹּ֑את of this zōt בְּיוֹם֩ in the day yôm הִצִּ֨יל had delivered nāṣal יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֹת֛וֹ ʾēt מִכַּ֥ף him out of the hand kap כָּל of all kōl אֹֽיְבָ֖יו his enemies, ʾōyēb וּמִכַּ֥ף and out of the hand kap שָׁאֽוּל׃ of Saul: šāʾûl

וַיֹּאמַ֑ר And he said, ʾāmar יְהוָ֛ה The Lord yĕhōwâ סַֽלְעִ֥י my rock, selaʿ וּמְצֻֽדָתִ֖י and my fortress, māṣûd וּמְפַלְטִי and my deliverer; pālaṭ לִֽי׃

אֱלֹהֵ֥י The God ʾĕlōhîm צוּרִ֖י of my rock; ṣûr אֶֽחֱסֶה in him will I trust: ḥāsâ בּ֑וֹ מָֽגִנִּ֞י my shield, māgēn וְקֶ֣רֶן and the horn qeren יִשְׁעִ֗י of my salvation, yešaʿ מִשְׂגַּבִּי֙ my high tower, miśgāb וּמְנוּסִ֔י and my refuge, mānôs מֹֽשִׁעִ֕י my saviour; yāšaʿ מֵֽחָמָ֖ס me from violence. ḥāmās תֹּֽשִׁעֵֽנִי׃ thou savest yāšaʿ

מְהֻלָּ֖ל worthy to be praised: hālal אֶקְרָ֣א I will call on qārāʾ יְהוָ֑ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וּמֵאֹֽיְבַ֖י from mine enemies. ʾōyēb אִוָּשֵֽׁעַ׃ so shall I be saved yāšaʿ

כִּ֥י When kî אֲפָפֻ֖נִי compassed ʾāpap מִשְׁבְּרֵי the waves mišbār מָ֑וֶת of death māwet נַֽחֲלֵ֥י me, the floods naḥal בְלִיַּ֖עַל of ungodly men bĕliyyaʿal יְבַֽעֲתֻֽנִי׃ made me afraid; bāʿat

חֶבְלֵ֥י The sorrows ḥebel שְׁא֖וֹל of hell šĕʾôl סַבֻּ֑נִי compassed me about; sābab קִדְּמֻ֖נִי prevented me; qādam מֹֽקְשֵׁי the snares môqēš מָֽוֶת׃ of death māwet

בַּצַּר In my distress ṣar לִי֙ אֶקְרָ֣א I called upon qārāʾ יְהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְאֶל to ʾēl אֱלֹהַ֖י my God: ʾĕlōhîm אֶקְרָ֑א and cried qārāʾ וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע and he did hear šāmaʿ מֵהֵֽיכָלוֹ֙ out of his temple, hêkāl קוֹלִ֔י my voice qôl וְשַׁוְעָתִ֖י and my cry šawʿâ בְּאָזְנָֽיו׃ into his ears. ʾōzen

וִַתְגָּעַ֤שׁ shook gāʿaš וַתִּרְעַשׁ֙ and trembled; rāʿaš הָאָ֔רֶץ Then the earth ʾereṣ מֽוֹסְד֥וֹת the foundations môsādâ הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם of heaven šāmayim יִרְגָּ֑זוּ moved rāgaz וַיִּֽתְגָּעֲשׁ֖וּ and shook, gāʿaš כִּי because kî חָ֥רָה he was wroth. ḥārâ לֽוֹ׃

עָלָ֤ה There went up ʿālâ עָשָׁן֙ a smoke ʿāšān בְּאַפּ֔וֹ out of his nostrils, ʾap וְאֵ֥שׁ and fire ʾēš מִפִּ֖יו out of his mouth pe תֹּאכֵ֑ל devoured: ʾākal גֶּֽחָלִ֖ים coals geḥel בָּֽעֲר֥וּ were kindled bāʿar מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ by it. min

וַיֵּ֥ט He bowed nāṭâ שָׁמַ֖יִם the heavens šāmayim וַיֵּרַ֑ד also, and came down; yārad וַֽעֲרָפֶ֖ל and darkness ʿărāpel תַּ֥חַת under taḥat רַגְלָֽיו׃ his feet. regel

וַיִּרְכַּ֥ב And he rode rākab עַל upon ʿal כְּר֖וּב a cherub, kĕrûb וַיָּעֹ֑ף and did fly: ʿûp וַיֵּרָ֖א and he was seen rāʾâ עַל upon ʿal כַּנְפֵי the wings kānāp רֽוּחַ׃ of the wind. rûaḥ

וַיָּ֥שֶׁת And he made šît חֹ֛שֶׁךְ darkness ḥōšek סְבִֽיבֹתָ֖יו round about sābîb סֻכּ֑וֹת pavilions sukkâ חַֽשְׁרַת him, dark ḥašrâ מַ֖יִם waters, mayim עָבֵ֥י thick clouds ʿāb שְׁחָקִֽים׃ of the skies. šaḥaq

מִנֹּ֖גַהּ Through the brightness nōgah נֶגְדּ֑וֹ before neged בָּֽעֲר֖וּ kindled. bāʿar גַּֽחֲלֵי him were coals geḥel אֵֽשׁ׃ of fire ʾēš

יַרְעֵ֥ם thundered rāʿam מִן from min שָׁמַ֖יִם heaven, šāmayim יְהוָ֑ה The Lord yĕhōwâ וְעֶלְי֖וֹן and the most High ʿelyôn יִתֵּ֥ן uttered nātan קוֹלֽוֹ׃ his voice. qôl

וַיִּשְׁלַ֥ח And he sent out šālaḥ חִצִּ֖ים arrows, ḥēṣ וַיְפִיצֵ֑ם and scattered pûṣ בָּרָ֖ק them; lightning, bārāq וַיָּהֹֽמם and discomfited them. hāmam

וַיֵּֽרָאוּ֙ appeared, rāʾâ אֲפִ֣קֵי And the channels ʾāpîq יָ֔ם of the sea yām יִגָּל֖וּ were discovered, gālâ מֹֽסְד֣וֹת the foundations môsādâ תֵּבֵ֑ל of the world tēbēl בְּגַֽעֲרַ֣ת at the rebuking gĕʿārâ יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ מִנִּשְׁמַ֖ת at the blast nĕšāmâ ר֥וּחַ of the breath rûaḥ אַפּֽוֹ׃ of his nostrils. ʾap

יִשְׁלַ֥ח He sent šālaḥ מִמָּר֖וֹם from above, mārôm יִקָּחֵ֑נִי he took lāqaḥ יַֽמְשֵׁ֖נִי me; he drew māšâ מִמַּ֥יִם waters; mayim רַבִּֽים׃ me out of many rab

יַצִּילֵ֕נִי He delivered nāṣal מֵאֹֽיְבִ֖י enemy, ʾōyēb עָ֑ז me from my strong ʿaz מִשֹּׂ֣נְאַ֔י from them that hated śānēʾ כִּ֥י me: for kî אָֽמְצ֖וּ they were too strong ʾāmaṣ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ for me. min

יְקַדְּמֻ֖נִי They prevented qādam בְּי֣וֹם me in the day yôm אֵידִ֑י of my calamity: ʾêd וַיְהִ֧י was hāyâ יְהוָ֛ה but the Lord yĕhōwâ מִשְׁעָ֖ן my stay. mišʿēn לִֽי׃

וַיֹּצֵ֥א He brought me forth yāṣāʾ לַמֶּרְחָ֖ב also into a large place: merḥāb אֹתִ֑י ʾēt יְחַלְּצֵ֖נִי he delivered ḥālaṣ כִּי me, because kî חָ֥פֵֽץ he delighted in me. ḥāpēṣ בִּֽי׃

יִגְמְלֵ֥נִי rewarded gāmal יְהוָ֖ה The Lord yĕhōwâ כְּצִדְקָתִ֑י me according to my righteousness: ṣĕdāqâ כְּבֹ֥ר according to the cleanness bōr יָדַ֖י of my hands yād יָשִׁ֥יב hath he recompensed me. šûb לִֽי׃

כִּ֥י For kî שָׁמַ֖רְתִּי I have kept šāmar דַּרְכֵ֣י the ways derek יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְלֹ֥א and have not lōʾ רָשַׁ֖עְתִּי wickedly departed rāšaʿ מֵֽאֱלֹהָֽי׃ from my God. ʾĕlōhîm

כִּ֥י For kî כָל all kōl מִשְׁפָּטָ֖ו his judgments mišpāṭ לְנֶגְדִּ֑י before neged וְחֻקֹּתָ֖יו me: and his statutes, ḥuqqâ לֹֽא I did not lōʾ אָס֥וּר depart sûr מִמֶּֽנָּה׃ from them. min

וָאֶֽהְיֶ֥ה I was hāyâ תָמִ֖ים also upright tāmîm ל֑וֹ וָֽאֶשְׁתַּמְּרָ֖ה before him, and have kept myself šāmar מֵעֲוֹנִֽי׃ from mine iniquity. ʿāwōn

וַיָּ֧שֶׁב hath recompensed šûb יְהוָ֛ה Therefore the Lord yĕhōwâ לִ֖י כְּצִדְקָתִ֑י me according to my righteousness; ṣĕdāqâ כְּבֹרִ֖י according to my cleanness bōr לְנֶ֥גֶד in his eye sight. neged עֵינָֽיו׃ ʿayin

עִם With ʿim חָסִ֖יד the merciful ḥāsîd תִּתְחַסָּ֑ד thou wilt shew thyself merciful, ḥāsad עִם with ʿim גִּבּ֥וֹר man gibbôr תָּמִ֖ים the upright tāmîm תִּתַּמָּֽם׃ thou wilt shew thyself upright. tāmam

עִם With ʿim נָבָ֖ר the pure bārar תִּתָּבָ֑ר thou wilt shew thyself pure; bārar וְעִם and with ʿim עִקֵּ֖שׁ the froward ʿiqqēš תִּתַּפָּֽל׃ thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury. pātal

וְאֶת ʾēt עַ֥ם people ʿam עָנִ֖י And the afflicted ʿānî תּוֹשִׁ֑יעַ thou wilt save: yāšaʿ וְעֵינֶ֖יךָ but thine eyes ʿayin עַל upon ʿal רָמִ֥ים the haughty, rûm תַּשְׁפִּֽיל׃ thou mayest bring down. šāpēl

כִּֽי For kî אַתָּ֥ה thou ʾattâ נֵירִ֖י my lamp, nîr יְהוָ֑ה O Lord: yĕhōwâ וַֽיהוָ֖ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ יַגִּ֥יהַּ will lighten nāgah חָשְׁכִּֽי׃ my darkness. ḥōšek

כִּ֥י For kî בְכָ֖ה אָר֣וּץ by thee I have run rûṣ גְּד֑וּד through a troop: gĕdûd בֵּֽאלֹהַ֖י by my God ʾĕlōhîm אֲדַלֶּג have I leaped over dālag שֽׁוּר׃ a wall. šûr

הָאֵ֖ל God, ʾēl תָּמִ֣ים perfect; tāmîm דַּרְכּ֑וֹ his way derek אִמְרַ֤ת the word ʾimrâ יְהוָה֙ of the Lord yĕhōwâ צְרוּפָ֔ה tried: ṣārap מָגֵ֣ן a buckler māgēn ה֔וּא he hûʾ לְכֹ֖ל to all kōl הַֽחֹסִ֥ים them that trust in him. ḥāsâ בּֽוֹ׃

כִּ֥י For kî מִי who mî אֵ֖ל God, ʾēl מִבַּלְעֲדֵ֣י save bilʿădê יְהוָ֑ה the Lord? yĕhōwâ וּמִ֥י and who mî צ֖וּר a rock, ṣûr מִֽבַּלְעֲדֵ֥י save bilʿădê אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ our God? ʾĕlōhîm

הָאֵ֥ל God ʾēl מָֽעוּזִּ֖י my strength māʿôz חָ֑יִל power: ḥayil וַיַּתֵּ֥ר and he maketh nātar תָּמִ֖ים perfect. tāmîm דַּרְכִּֽו׃ my way derek

מְשַׁוֶּ֥ה He maketh šāwâ רַגְלַ֖יו my feet regel כָּֽאַיָּל֑וֹת like hinds' ʾayyālâ וְעַ֥ל me upon ʿal בָּמֹתַ֖י my high places. bāmâ יַֽעֲמִדֵֽנִי׃ and setteth ʿāmad

מְלַמֵּ֥ד He teacheth lāmad יָדַ֖י my hands yād לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה to war; milḥāmâ וְנִחַ֥ת is broken nāḥat קֶֽשֶׁת so that a bow qešet נְחוּשָׁ֖ה of steel nĕḥûšâ זְרֹֽעֹתָֽי׃ by mine arms. zĕrôaʿ

וַתִּתֶּן Thou hast also given nātan לִ֖י מָגֵ֣ן me the shield māgēn יִשְׁעֶ֑ךָ of thy salvation: yešaʿ וַעֲנֹֽתְךָ֖ and thy gentleness ʿānâ תַּרְבֵּֽנִי׃ hath made me great. rābâ

תַּרְחִ֥יב Thou hast enlarged rāḥab צַֽעֲדִ֖י my steps ṣaʿad תַּחְתֵּ֑נִי under taḥat וְלֹ֥א did not lōʾ מָֽעֲד֖וּ slip. māʿad קַרְסֻלָּֽי׃ me; so that my feet qarsōl

אֶרְדְּפָ֥ה I have pursued rādap אֹֽיְבַ֖י mine enemies, ʾōyēb וָֽאַשְׁמִידֵ֑ם and destroyed šāmad וְלֹ֥א lōʾ אָשׁ֖וּב them; and turned not again šûb עַד until ʿad כַּלּוֹתָֽם׃ I had consumed them. kālâ

וָֽאֲכַלֵּ֥ם And I have consumed kālâ וָֽאֶמְחָצֵ֖ם them, and wounded māḥaṣ וְלֹ֣א them, that they could not lōʾ יְקוּמ֑וּן arise: qûm וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ yea, they are fallen nāpal תַּ֥חַת under taḥat רַגְלָֽי׃ my feet. regel

וַתַּזְרֵ֥נִי For thou hast girded ʾāzar חַ֖יִל me with strength ḥayil לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה to battle: milḥāmâ תַּכְרִ֥יעַ against me hast thou subdued kāraʿ קָמַ֖י them that rose up qûm תַּחְתֵּֽנִי׃ under me. taḥat

וְאֹ֣יְבַ֔י of mine enemies, ʾōyēb תַּ֥תָּה Thou hast also given nātan לִּ֖י עֹ֑רֶף me the necks ʿōrep מְשַׂנְאַ֖י them that hate me. śānēʾ וָֽאַצְמִיתֵֽם׃ that I might destroy ṣāmat

יִשְׁע֖וּ They looked, šāʿâ וְאֵ֣ין but none ʾayin מֹשִׁ֑יעַ to save; yāšaʿ אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוָ֖ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְלֹ֥א them not. lōʾ עָנָֽם׃ but he answered ʿānâ

וְאֶשְׁחָקֵ֖ם Then did I beat šāḥaq כַּֽעֲפַר them as small as the dust ʿāpār אָ֑רֶץ of the earth, ʾereṣ כְּטִיט them as the mire ṭîṭ חוּצ֥וֹת of the street, ḥûṣ אֲדִקֵּ֖ם I did stamp dāqaq אֶרְקָעֵֽם׃ did spread them abroad. rāqaʿ

וַֽתְּפַלְּטֵ֔נִי Thou also hast delivered pālaṭ מֵֽרִיבֵ֖י me from the strivings rîb עַמִּ֑י of my people, ʿam תִּשְׁמְרֵ֙נִי֙ thou hast kept šāmar לְרֹ֣אשׁ me head rōš גּוֹיִ֔ם of the heathen: gôy עַ֥ם a people ʿam לֹֽא not lōʾ יָדַ֖עְתִּי I knew yādaʿ יַֽעַבְדֻֽנִי׃ shall serve me. ʿābad

בְּנֵ֥י Strangers bēn נֵכָ֖ר nēkār יִתְכַּֽחֲשׁוּ shall submit themselves kāḥaš לִ֑י לִשְׁמ֥וֹעַ unto me: as soon as they hear, šāmaʿ אֹ֖זֶן ʾōzen יִשָּׁ֥מְעוּ they shall be obedient unto me. šāmaʿ לִֽי׃

בְּנֵ֥י Strangers bēn נֵכָ֖ר nēkār יִבֹּ֑לוּ shall fade away, nābēl וְיַחְגְּר֖וּ and they shall be afraid ḥāgar מִמִּסְגְּרוֹתָֽם׃ out of their close places. misgeret

חַי liveth; ḥay יְהוָ֖ה The Lord yĕhōwâ וּבָר֣וּךְ and blessed bārak צוּרִ֑י my rock; ṣûr וְיָרֻ֕ם and exalted rûm אֱלֹהֵ֖י be the God ʾĕlōhîm צ֥וּר of the rock ṣûr יִשְׁעִֽי׃ of my salvation. yešaʿ

הָאֵ֕ל It God ʾēl הַנֹּתֵ֥ן that avengeth nātan נְקָמֹ֖ת nĕqāmâ לִ֑י וּמֹרִ֥יד me, and that bringeth down yārad עַמִּ֖ים the people ʿam תַּחְתֵּֽנִי׃ under me, taḥat

וּמֽוֹצִיאִ֖י And that bringeth me forth yāṣāʾ מֵאֹֽיְבָ֑י from mine enemies: ʾōyēb וּמִקָּמַי֙ above them that rose up qûm תְּר֣וֹמְמֵ֔נִי thou also hast lifted me up on high rûm מֵאִ֥ישׁ man. ʾîš חֲמָסִ֖ים me from the violent ḥāmās תַּצִּילֵֽנִי׃ against me: thou hast delivered nāṣal

עַל Therefore ʿal כֵּ֛ן kēn אֽוֹדְךָ֥ I will give thanks yādâ יְהוָ֖ה unto thee, O Lord, yĕhōwâ בַּגּוֹיִ֑ם among the heathen, gôy וּלְשִׁמְךָ֖ unto thy name. šēm אֲזַמֵּֽר׃ and I will sing praises zāmar

מִגְדֹּ֖יל the tower migdôl יְשׁוּע֣וֹת of salvation yĕšûʿâ מַלְכּ֑וֹ for his king: melek וְעֹֽשֶׂה and sheweth ʿāśâ חֶ֧סֶד mercy ḥēsēd לִמְשִׁיח֛וֹ to his anointed, māšîaḥ לְדָוִ֥ד unto David, dāwid וּלְזַרְע֖וֹ and to his seed zeraʿ עַד for ʿad עוֹלָֽם׃ evermore. ʿôlām
