  1. וַיֵּ֖דַע perceived yādaʿ יוֹאָ֣ב Now Joab yôʾāb בֶּן the son bēn צְרֻיָ֑ה of Zeruiah ṣĕrûyâ כִּי that לֵ֥ב heart lēb הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king's melek עַל toward ʿal אַבְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ Absalom. ʾăbîšālôm
  2. וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח sent šālaḥ יוֹאָב֙ And Joab yôʾāb תְּק֔וֹעָה to Tekoah, tĕqôaʿ וַיִּקַּ֥ח and fetched lāqaḥ מִשָּׁ֖ם thence šām אִשָּׁ֣ה woman, ʾiššâ חֲכָמָ֑ה a wise ḥākām וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and said ʾāmar אֵ֠לֶיהָ unto ʾēl הִֽתְאַבְּלִי feign thyself to be a mourner, ʾābal נָ֞א her, I pray thee, nāʾ וְלִבְשִׁי and put on lābaš נָ֣א now nāʾ בִגְדֵי apparel, beged אֵ֗בֶל mourning ʾēbel וְאַל not ʾal תָּס֙וּכִי֙ and anoint sûk שֶׁ֔מֶן thyself with oil, šemen וְהָיִ֕ית but be hāyâ כְּאִשָּׁ֗ה as a woman ʾiššâ זֶ֚ה that ze יָמִ֣ים time yôm רַבִּ֔ים had a long rab מִתְאַבֶּ֖לֶת mourned ʾābal עַל for ʿal מֵֽת׃ the dead: mût
  3. וּבָאת֙ And come bôʾ אֶל on ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ to the king, melek וְדִבַּ֥רְתְּ and speak dābar אֵלָ֖יו unto ʾēl כַּדָּבָ֣ר manner dābār הַזֶּ֑ה this ze וַיָּ֧שֶׂם put śûm יוֹאָ֛ב him. So Joab yôʾāb אֶת ʾēt הַדְּבָרִ֖ים the words dābār בְּפִֽיהָ׃ in her mouth. pe
  4. וַ֠תֹּאמֶר spake ʾāmar הָֽאִשָּׁ֤ה And when the woman ʾiššâ הַתְּקֹעִית֙ of Tekoah tĕqôʿî אֶל to ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek וַתִּפֹּ֧ל she fell nāpal עַל on ʿal אַפֶּ֛יהָ her face ʾap אַ֖רְצָה to the ground, ʾereṣ וַתִּשְׁתָּ֑חוּ and did obeisance, šāḥâ וַתֹּ֖אמֶר and said, ʾāmar הוֹשִׁ֥עָה Help, yāšaʿ הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ O king. melek
  5. וַיֹּֽאמֶר said ʾāmar לָ֥הּ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ And the king melek מַה unto her, What לָּ֑ךְ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר aileth thee? And she answered, ʾāmar אֲבָ֛ל indeed ʾăbāl אִשָּֽׁה woman, ʾiššâ אַלְמָנָ֥ה a widow ʾalmānâ אָ֖נִי I ʾănî וַיָּ֥מָת is dead. mût אִישִֽׁי׃ and mine husband ʾîš
  6. וּלְשִׁפְחָֽתְךָ֙ And thy handmaid šipḥâ שְׁנֵ֣י had two šĕnayim בָנִ֔ים sons, bēn וַיִּנָּצ֤וּ strove together nāṣâ שְׁנֵיהֶם֙ and they two šĕnayim בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה in the field, śāde וְאֵ֥ין and none ʾayin מַצִּ֖יל to part nāṣal בֵּֽינֵיהֶ֑ם bên וַיַּכּ֧וֹ smote nākâ הָֽאֶחָ֛ד them, but the one ʾeḥād אֶת ʾēt הָֽאֶחָ֖ד the other, ʾeḥād וַיָּ֥מֶת and slew him. mût אֹתֽוֹ׃ ʾēt
  7. וְהִנֵּה֩ And, behold, hinnē קָ֨מָה is risen qûm כָֽל the whole kōl הַמִּשְׁפָּחָ֜ה family mišpāḥâ עַל against ʿal שִׁפְחָתֶ֗ךָ thine handmaid, šipḥâ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ and they said, ʾāmar תְּנִ֣י׀ Deliver nātan אֶת ʾēt מַכֵּ֣ה him that smote nākâ אָחִ֗יו his brother, ʾāḥ וּנְמִתֵ֙הוּ֙ that we may kill mût בְּנֶ֤פֶשׁ him, for the life nepeš אָחִיו֙ of his brother ʾāḥ אֲשֶׁ֣ר whom ʾăšer הָרָ֔ג he slew; hārag וְנַשְׁמִ֖ידָה and we will destroy šāmad גַּ֣ם also: gam אֶת ʾēt הַיּוֹרֵ֑שׁ the heir yāraš וְכִבּ֗וּ and so they shall quench kābâ אֶת ʾēt גַּֽחַלְתִּי֙ my coal geḥel אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer נִשְׁאָ֔רָה leave šāʾar לְבִלְתִּ֧י and shall not biltî שִׂום is left, śûm לְאִישִׁ֛י to my husband ʾîš שֵׁ֥ם name šēm וּשְׁאֵרִ֖ית nor remainder šĕʾērît עַל ʿal פְּנֵ֥י upon pānîm הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃ the earth. ʾădāmâ
  8. וַיֹּ֧אמֶר said ʾāmar הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ And the king melek אֶל unto ʾēl הָֽאִשָּׁ֖ה the woman, ʾiššâ לְכִ֣י Go hālak לְבֵיתֵ֑ךְ to thine house, bayit וַֽאֲנִ֖י and I ʾănî אֲצַוֶּ֥ה will give charge ṣāwâ עָלָֽיִךְ׃ concerning thee. ʿal
  9. וַתֹּ֜אמֶר said ʾāmar הָֽאִשָּׁ֤ה And the woman ʾiššâ הַתְּקוֹעִית֙ of Tekoah tĕqôʿî אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek עָלַ֞י on ʿal אֲדֹנִ֥י My lord, ʾādôn הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ O king, melek הֶעָוֹ֖ן the iniquity ʿāwōn וְעַל me, and on ʿal בֵּ֣ית house: bayit אָבִ֑י my father's ʾāb וְהַמֶּ֥לֶךְ and the king melek וְכִסְא֖וֹ and his throne kissēʾ נָקִֽי׃ guiltless. nāqî
  10. וַיֹּ֖אמֶר said, ʾāmar הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ And the king melek הַֽמְדַבֵּ֤ר Whosoever saith dābar אֵלַ֙יִךְ֙ unto ʾēl וַֽהֲבֵאת֣וֹ thee, bring bôʾ אֵלַ֔י him to ʾēl וְלֹֽא me, and he shall not lōʾ יֹסִ֥יף thee any more. yāsap ע֖וֹד ʿôd לָגַ֥עַת touch nāgaʿ בָּֽךְ׃
  11. וַתֹּאמֶר֩ Then said ʾāmar יִזְכָּר remember zākar נָ֨א she, I pray thee, nāʾ הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ let the king melek אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm מֵֽהַרְבִּי֞ת any more, rābâ גֹּאֵ֤ל suffer the revengers gāʾal הַדָּם֙ of blood dām לְשַׁחֵ֔ת to destroy šāḥat וְלֹ֥א that thou wouldest not lōʾ יַשְׁמִ֖ידוּ lest they destroy šāmad אֶת ʾēt בְּנִ֑י my son. bēn וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ And he said, ʾāmar חַי liveth, ḥay יְהוָ֔ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אִם there shall not ʾim יִפֹּ֛ל fall nāpal מִשַּֽׂעֲרַ֥ת one hair śaʿărâ בְּנֵ֖ךְ of thy son bēn אָֽרְצָה׃ to the earth. ʾereṣ
  12. וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ said, ʾāmar הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה Then the woman ʾiššâ תְּדַבֶּר speak dābar נָ֧א I pray thee, nāʾ שִׁפְחָֽתְךָ֛ Let thine handmaid, šipḥâ אֶל unto ʾēl אֲדֹנִ֥י my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king. melek דָּבָ֑ר word dābār וַיֹּ֖אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar דַּבֵּֽרִי׃ Say on. dābar
  13. וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ said, ʾāmar הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה And the woman ʾiššâ וְלָ֧מָּה Wherefore חָשַׁ֛בְתָּה then hast thou thought ḥāšab כָּזֹ֖את such zōt עַל a thing against ʿal עַ֣ם the people ʿam אֱלֹהִ֑ים of God? ʾĕlōhîm וּמִדַּבֵּ֨ר doth speak dābar הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ for the king melek הַדָּבָ֤ר thing dābār הַזֶּה֙ this ze כְּאָשֵׁ֔ם as one which is faulty, ʾāšēm לְבִלְתִּ֛י doth not biltî הָשִׁ֥יב fetch home again šûb הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ in that the king melek אֶֽת ʾēt נִדְּחֽוֹ׃ his banished. nādaḥ
  14. כִּי For מ֣וֹת we must needs mût נָמ֔וּת die, mût וְכַמַּ֙יִם֙ and as water mayim הַנִּגָּרִ֣ים spilt nāgar אַ֔רְצָה on the ground, ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁ֖ר which ʾăšer לֹ֣א cannot lōʾ יֵֽאָסֵ֑פוּ be gathered up again; ʾāsap וְלֹֽא neither lōʾ יִשָּׂ֤א respect nāśāʾ אֱלֹהִים֙ doth God ʾĕlōhîm נֶ֔פֶשׁ person: nepeš וְחָשַׁב֙ yet doth he devise ḥāšab מַֽחֲשָׁב֔וֹת means, maḥăšābâ לְבִלְתִּ֛י biltî יִדַּ֥ח that his banished nādaḥ מִמֶּ֖נּוּ from him. min נִדָּֽח׃ be not expelled nādaḥ
  15. וְ֠עַתָּה Now ʿattâ אֲשֶׁר therefore that ʾăšer בָּ֜אתִי I am come bôʾ לְדַבֵּ֨ר to speak dābar אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ the king, melek אֲדֹנִי֙ my lord ʾādôn אֶת of ʾēt הַדָּבָ֣ר thing dābār הַזֶּ֔ה this ze כִּ֥י because יֵֽרְאֻ֖נִי have made me afraid: yārēʾ הָעָ֑ם the people ʿam וַתֹּ֤אמֶר said, ʾāmar שִׁפְחָֽתְךָ֙ and thy handmaid šipḥâ אֲדַבְּרָה speak dābar נָּ֣א I will now nāʾ אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king; melek אוּלַ֛י it may be ʾûlay יַֽעֲשֶׂ֥ה will perform ʿāśâ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ that the king melek אֶת ʾēt דְּבַ֥ר the request dābār אֲמָתֽוֹ׃ of his handmaid. ʾāmâ
  16. כִּ֚י For יִשְׁמַ֣ע will hear, šāmaʿ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king melek לְהַצִּ֥יל to deliver nāṣal אֶת ʾēt אֲמָת֖וֹ his handmaid ʾāmâ מִכַּ֣ף out of the hand kap הָאִ֑ישׁ of the man ʾîš לְהַשְׁמִ֨יד destroy šāmad אֹתִ֤י ʾēt וְאֶת ʾēt בְּנִי֙ me and my son bēn יַ֔חַד together yaḥad מִֽנַּחֲלַ֖ת out of the inheritance naḥălâ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ of God. ʾĕlōhîm
  17. וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ said, ʾāmar שִׁפְחָ֣תְךָ֔ Then thine handmaid šipḥâ יִֽהְיֶה be hāyâ נָּ֛א shall now nāʾ דְּבַר The word dābār אֲדֹנִ֥י of my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek לִמְנֻחָ֑ה comfortable: mĕnûḥâ כִּ֣י׀ for כְּמַלְאַ֣ךְ as an angel mălʾok הָֽאֱלֹהִ֗ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm כֵּ֣ן so kēn אֲדֹנִ֤י my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ the king melek לִשְׁמֹ֙עַ֙ to discern šāmaʿ הַטּ֣וֹב good ṭôb וְהָרָ֔ע and bad: raʿ וַֽיהוָ֥ה therefore the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm יְהִ֥י will be hāyâ עִמָּֽךְ׃ with thee. ʿim
  18. וַיַּ֣עַן answered ʿānâ הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ Then the king melek וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ and said ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl הָ֣אִשָּׁ֔ה the woman, ʾiššâ אַל not ʾal נָ֨א me, I pray thee, nāʾ תְכַֽחֲדִ֤י Hide kāḥad מִמֶּ֙נִּי֙ from min דָּבָ֔ר the thing dābār אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִ֖י I ʾānōkî שֹׁאֵ֣ל shall ask šāʾal אֹתָ֑ךְ ʾēt וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ said, ʾāmar הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה thee. And the woman ʾiššâ יְדַבֶּר speak. dābar נָ֖א now nāʾ אֲדֹנִ֥י Let my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king melek
  19. וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ And the king melek הֲיַ֥ד the hand yād יוֹאָ֛ב of Joab yôʾāb אִתָּ֖ךְ with ʾēt בְּכָל thee in all kōl זֹ֑את this? zōt וַתַּ֣עַן answered ʿānâ הָֽאִשָּׁ֣ה And the woman ʾiššâ וַתֹּ֡אמֶר and said, ʾāmar חֵֽי liveth, ḥay נַפְשְׁךָ֩ thy soul nepeš אֲדֹנִ֨י my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ the king, melek אִם turn ʾim אִ֣שׁ׀ none can ʾiš לְהֵמִ֣ין to the right hand yāman וּלְהַשְׂמִ֗יל or to the left śāmal מִכֹּ֤ל from ought kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer דִּבֶּר֙ hath spoken: dābar אֲדֹנִ֣י my lord ʾādôn הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king melek כִּֽי for עַבְדְּךָ֤ thy servant ʿebed יוֹאָב֙ Joab, yôʾāb ה֣וּא he hûʾ צִוָּ֔נִי bade ṣāwâ וְה֗וּא me, and he hûʾ שָׂ֚ם put śûm בְּפִ֣י in the mouth pe שִׁפְחָֽתְךָ֔ of thine handmaid: šipḥâ אֵ֥ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַדְּבָרִ֖ים words dābār הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ these ʾēlle
  20. לְבַֽעֲב֤וּר To ʿābûr סַבֵּב֙ fetch about sābab אֶת ʾēt פְּנֵ֣י this form pānîm הַדָּבָ֔ר of speech dābār עָשָׂ֛ה done ʿāśâ עַבְדְּךָ֥ hath thy servant ʿebed יוֹאָ֖ב Joab yôʾāb אֶת ʾēt הַדָּבָ֣ר thing: dābār הַזֶּ֑ה this ze וַֽאדֹנִ֣י and my lord ʾādôn חָכָ֗ם wise, ḥākām כְּחָכְמַת֙ according to the wisdom ḥokmâ מַלְאַ֣ךְ of an angel mălʾok הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm לָדַ֖עַת to know yādaʿ אֶֽת ʾēt כָּל all kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ in the earth. ʾereṣ
  21. וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ And the king melek אֶל unto ʾēl יוֹאָ֔ב Joab, yôʾāb הִנֵּה Behold hinnē נָ֥א now, nāʾ עָשִׂ֖יתִי I have done ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt הַדָּבָ֣ר thing: dābār הַזֶּ֑ה this ze וְלֵ֛ךְ go hālak הָשֵׁ֥ב therefore, bring šûb אֶת ʾēt הַנַּ֖עַר the young man naʿar אֶת ʾēt אַבְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ Absalom again. ʾăbîšālôm
  22. וַיִּפֹּל֩ fell nāpal יוֹאָ֨ב And Joab yôʾāb אֶל on ʾēl פָּנָ֥יו his face, pānîm אַ֛רְצָה to the ground ʾereṣ וַיִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ and bowed himself, šāḥâ וַיְבָ֣רֶךְ and thanked bārak אֶת ʾēt הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ the king: melek וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar יוֹאָ֡ב and Joab yôʾāb הַיּוֹם֩ To day yôm יָדַ֨ע knoweth yādaʿ עַבְדְּךָ֜ thy servant ʿebed כִּֽי that מָצָ֨אתִי I have found māṣāʾ חֵ֤ן grace ḥēn בְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙ in thy sight, ʿayin אֲדֹנִ֣י my lord, ʾādôn הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ O king, melek אֲשֶׁר in that ʾăšer עָשָׂ֥ה hath fulfilled ʿāśâ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek אֶת ʾēt דְּבַ֥ר the request dābār עַבְדֶּֽוָ׃ of his servant. ʿebed
  23. וַיָּ֥קָם arose qûm יוֹאָ֖ב So Joab yôʾāb וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ and went hālak גְּשׁ֑וּרָה to Geshur, gĕšûr וַיָּבֵ֥א and brought bôʾ אֶת ʾēt אַבְשָׁל֖וֹם Absalom ʾăbîšālôm יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ to Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim
  24. וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said, ʾāmar הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ And the king melek יִסֹּ֣ב Let him turn sābab אֶל to ʾēl בֵּית֔וֹ his own house, bayit וּפָנַ֖י my face. pānîm לֹ֣א and let him not lōʾ יִרְאֶ֑ה see rāʾâ וַיִּסֹּ֤ב returned sābab אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ So Absalom ʾăbîšālôm אֶל to ʾēl בֵּית֔וֹ his own house, bayit וּפְנֵ֥י face. pānîm הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king's melek לֹ֥א not lōʾ רָאָֽה׃ and saw rāʾâ
  25. וּכְאַבְשָׁל֗וֹם as Absalom ʾăbîšālôm לֹֽא lōʾ הָיָ֧ה there was hāyâ אִישׁ none ʾîš יָפֶ֛ה for his beauty: yāpe בְּכָל But in all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל Israel yiśrāʾēl לְהַלֵּ֣ל praised hālal מְאֹ֑ד to be so much mĕʾōd מִכַּ֤ף from the sole kap רַגְלוֹ֙ of his foot regel וְעַ֣ד even to ʿad קָדְקֳד֔וֹ the crown of his head qodqōd לֹא no lōʾ הָ֥יָה there was hāyâ ב֖וֹ מֽוּם׃ blemish in him. mʾûm
  26. וּֽבְגַלְּחוֹ֮ And when he polled gālaḥ אֶת ʾēt רֹאשׁוֹ֒ his head, rōš וְֽ֠הָיָה (for it was hāyâ מִקֵּ֨ץ end qēṣ יָמִ֤ים׀ at every year's yôm לַיָּמִים֙ yôm אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer יְגַלֵּ֔חַ he polled gālaḥ כִּֽי because כָבֵ֥ד was heavy kābad עָלָ֖יו on ʿal וְגִלְּח֑וֹ him, therefore he polled gālaḥ וְשָׁקַל֙ it:) he weighed šāqal אֶת ʾēt שְׂעַ֣ר the hair śēʿār רֹאשׁ֔וֹ of his head rōš מָאתַ֥יִם at two hundred mēʾâ שְׁקָלִ֖ים shekels šeqel בְּאֶ֥בֶן weight. ʾeben הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ after the king's melek
  27. וַיִּוָּֽלְד֤וּ there were born yālad לְאַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ And unto Absalom ʾăbîšālôm שְׁלוֹשָׁ֣ה three šālôš בָנִ֔ים sons, bēn וּבַ֥ת daughter, bat אַחַ֖ת and one ʾeḥād וּשְׁמָ֣הּ whose name šēm תָּמָ֑ר Tamar: tāmār הִ֣יא she hûʾ הָֽיְתָ֔ה was hāyâ אִשָּׁ֖ה a woman ʾiššâ יְפַ֥ת of a fair yāpe מַרְאֶֽה׃ countenance. marʾe
  28. וַיֵּ֧שֶׁב dwelt yāšab אַבְשָׁל֛וֹם So Absalom ʾăbîšālôm בִּירֽוּשָׁלִַ֖ם in Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim שְׁנָתַ֣יִם years šāne יָמִ֑ים two full yôm וּפְנֵ֥י face. pānîm הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king's melek לֹ֥א not lōʾ רָאָֽה׃ and saw rāʾâ
  29. וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח sent šālaḥ אַבְשָׁל֜וֹם Therefore Absalom ʾăbîšālôm אֶל for ʾēl יוֹאָ֗ב Joab, yôʾāb לִשְׁלֹ֤חַ to have sent šālaḥ אֹתוֹ֙ ʾēt אֶל him to ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king; melek וְלֹ֥א not lōʾ אָבָ֖ה but he would ʾābâ לָב֣וֹא come bôʾ אֵלָ֑יו to ʾēl וַיִּשְׁלַ֥ח him: and when he sent again šālaḥ עוֹד֙ ʿôd שֵׁנִ֔ית the second time, šēnî וְלֹ֥א not lōʾ אָבָ֖ה he would ʾābâ לָבֽוֹא׃ come. bôʾ
  30. וַיֹּ֨אמֶר Therefore he said ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl עֲבָדָ֜יו his servants, ʿebed רְאוּ֩ See, rāʾâ חֶלְקַ֨ת field ḥelqâ יוֹאָ֤ב Joab's yôʾāb אֶל is near ʾēl יָדִי֙ mine, yād וְלוֹ שָׁ֣ם there; šām שְׂעֹרִ֔ים and he hath barley śĕʿōrâ לְכ֖וּ go hālak וְהַוֹצִּית֣יּהָ and set yāṣat בָאֵ֑שׁ it on fire. ʾēš וַיַּצִּ֜תוּ set yāṣat עַבְדֵ֧י servants ʿebed אַבְשָׁל֛וֹם And Absalom's ʾăbîšālôm אֶת ʾēt הַחֶלְקָ֖ה the field ḥelqâ בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ on fire. ʾēš
  31. וַיָּ֣קָם arose, qûm יוֹאָ֔ב Then Joab yôʾāb וַיָּבֹ֥א and came bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl אַבְשָׁל֖וֹם Absalom ʾăbîšālôm הַבָּ֑יְתָה unto house, bayit וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and said ʾāmar אֵלָ֔יו unto ʾēl לָ֣מָּה him, Wherefore הִצִּ֧יתוּ set yāṣat עֲבָדֶ֛יךָ have thy servants ʿebed אֶת ʾēt הַחֶלְקָ֥ה my field ḥelqâ אֲשֶׁר ʾăšer לִ֖י בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ on fire? ʾēš
  32. וַיֹּ֣אמֶר answered ʾāmar אַבְשָׁל֣וֹם And Absalom ʾăbîšālôm אֶל ʾēl יוֹאָ֡ב Joab, yôʾāb הִנֵּ֣ה Behold, hinnē שָׁלַ֣חְתִּי I sent šālaḥ אֵלֶ֣יךָ׀ unto ʾēl לֵאמֹ֡ר thee, saying, ʾāmar בֹּ֣א Come bôʾ הֵ֠נָּה hither, hēnnâ וְאֶשְׁלְחָה֩ that I may send šālaḥ אֹֽתְךָ֙ ʾēt אֶל thee to ʾēl הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ the king, melek לֵאמֹ֗ר to say, ʾāmar לָ֤מָּה Wherefore בָּ֙אתִי֙ come bôʾ מִגְּשׁ֔וּר from Geshur? gĕšûr ט֥וֹב good ṭôb לִ֖י עֹ֣ד still: ʿôd אֲנִי am I ʾănî שָׁ֑ם for me there šām וְעַתָּ֗ה now ʿattâ אֶרְאֶה֙ therefore let me see rāʾâ פְּנֵ֣י face; pānîm הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king's melek וְאִם and if ʾim יֶשׁ there be yēš בִּ֥י עָוֹ֖ן iniquity ʿāwōn וֶֽהֱמִתָֽנִי׃ in me, let him kill me. mût
  33. וַיָּבֹ֨א came bôʾ יוֹאָ֣ב So Joab yôʾāb אֶל to ʾēl הַמֶּלֶךְ֮ the king, melek וַיַּגֶּד and told nāgad לוֹ֒ וַיִּקְרָ֤א him: and when he had called qārāʾ אֶל for ʾēl אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ Absalom, ʾăbîšālôm וַיָּבֹ֣א he came bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek וַיִּשְׁתַּ֨חוּ and bowed šāḥâ ל֧וֹ עַל himself on ʿal אַפָּ֛יו his face ʾap אַ֖רְצָה to the ground ʾereṣ לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ the king: melek וַיִּשַּׁ֥ק kissed nāšaq הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ and the king melek לְאַבְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ Absalom. ʾăbîšālôm
