  1. וַיְהִ֗י And it came to pass, hāyâ בְּהַֽעֲל֤וֹת would take up ʿālâ יְהוָה֙ when the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ Elijah ʾēliyyâ בַּֽסְעָרָ֖ה by a whirlwind, saʿar הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם into heaven šāmayim וַיֵּ֧לֶךְ went hālak אֵֽלִיָּ֛הוּ that Elijah ʾēliyyâ וֶֽאֱלִישָׁ֖ע with Elisha ʾĕlîšāʿ מִן from min הַגִּלְגָּֽל׃ Gilgal. gilgāl
  2. וַיֹּאמֶר֩ said ʾāmar אֵֽלִיָּ֨הוּ And Elijah ʾēliyyâ אֶל unto ʾēl אֱלִישָׁ֜ע Elisha, ʾĕlîšāʿ שֵֽׁב Tarry yāšab נָ֣א I pray thee; nāʾ פֹ֗ה here, כִּ֤י for יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ שְׁלָחַ֣נִי hath sent šālaḥ עַד me to ʿad בֵּֽית אֵ֔ל Beth-el. bêt ʾēl וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said ʾāmar אֱלִישָׁ֔ע And Elisha ʾĕlîšāʿ חַי liveth, ḥay יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ וְחֵֽי liveth, ḥay נַפְשְׁךָ֖ and thy soul nepeš אִם I will not ʾim אֶֽעֶזְבֶ֑ךָּ leave ʿāzab וַיֵּֽרְד֖וּ thee. So they went down yārad בֵּֽית אֵֽל׃ to Beth-el. bêt ʾēl
  3. וַיֵּֽצְא֨וּ came forth yāṣāʾ בְנֵֽי And the sons bēn הַנְּבִיאִ֥ים of the prophets nābîʾ אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer בֵּֽית אֵל֮ at Beth-el bêt ʾēl אֶל to ʾēl אֱלִישָׁע֒ Elisha, ʾĕlîšāʿ וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ and said ʾāmar אֵלָ֔יו unto ʾēl הֲיָדַ֕עְתָּ him, Knowest yādaʿ כִּ֣י thou that הַיּ֗וֹם to day? yôm יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ לֹקֵ֥חַ will take away lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt אֲדֹנֶ֖יךָ thy master ʾādôn מֵעַ֣ל from ʿal רֹאשֶׁ֑ךָ thy head rōš וַיֹּ֛אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar גַּם Yea, gam אֲנִ֥י I ʾănî יָדַ֖עְתִּי know yādaʿ הֶֽחֱשֽׁוּ׃ hold ye your peace. ḥāšâ
  4. וַיֹּאמֶר֩ said ʾāmar ל֨וֹ אֵֽלִיָּ֜הוּ And Elijah ʾēliyyâ אֱלִישָׁ֣ע׀ unto him, Elisha, ʾĕlîšāʿ שֵֽׁב tarry yāšab נָ֣א I pray thee; nāʾ פֹ֗ה here, כִּ֤י for יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ שְׁלָחַ֣נִי hath sent šālaḥ יְרִיח֔וֹ me to Jericho. yĕrîḥô וַיֹּ֕אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar חַי liveth, ḥay יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ וְחֵֽי liveth, ḥay נַפְשְׁךָ֖ and thy soul nepeš אִם I will not ʾim אֶֽעֶזְבֶ֑ךָּ leave ʿāzab וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ thee. So they came bôʾ יְרִיחֽוֹ׃ to Jericho. yĕrîḥô
  5. וַיִּגְּשׁ֨וּ came nāgaš בְנֵֽי And the sons bēn הַנְּבִיאִ֥ים of the prophets nābîʾ אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer בִּֽירִיחוֹ֮ at Jericho yĕrîḥô אֶל to ʾēl אֱלִישָׁע֒ Elisha, ʾĕlîšāʿ וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ and said ʾāmar אֵלָ֔יו unto ʾēl הֲיָדַ֕עְתָּ him, Knowest yādaʿ כִּ֣י thou that הַיּ֗וֹם to day? yôm יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ לֹקֵ֥חַ will take away lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt אֲדֹנֶ֖יךָ thy master ʾādôn מֵעַ֣ל from ʿal רֹאשֶׁ֑ךָ thy head rōš וַיֹּ֛אמֶר And he answered, ʾāmar גַּם Yea, gam אֲנִ֥י I ʾănî יָדַ֖עְתִּי know yādaʿ הֶֽחֱשֽׁוּ׃ hold ye your peace. ḥāšâ
  6. וַיֹּאמֶר֩ said ʾāmar ל֨וֹ אֵֽלִיָּ֜הוּ And Elijah ʾēliyyâ שֵֽׁב unto him, Tarry, yāšab נָ֣א I pray thee, nāʾ פֹ֗ה here; כִּ֤י for יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ שְׁלָחַ֣נִי hath sent šālaḥ הַיַּרְדֵּ֔נָה me to Jordan. yardēn וַיֹּ֕אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar חַי liveth, ḥay יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ וְחֵֽי liveth, ḥay נַפְשְׁךָ֖ and thy soul nepeš אִם I will not ʾim אֶֽעֶזְבֶ֑ךָּ leave ʿāzab וַיֵּֽלְכ֖וּ went on. hālak שְׁנֵיהֶֽם׃ thee. And they two šĕnayim
  7. וַֽחֲמִשִּׁ֨ים And fifty ḥămiššîm אִ֜ישׁ men ʾĕnôš מִבְּנֵ֤י of the sons bēn הַנְּבִיאִים֙ of the prophets nābîʾ הָֽלְכ֔וּ went, hālak וַיַּֽעַמְד֥וּ and stood ʿāmad מִנֶּ֖גֶד to view neged מֵֽרָח֑וֹק afar off: rāḥôq וּשְׁנֵיהֶ֖ם and they two šĕnayim עָֽמְד֥וּ stood ʿāmad עַל by ʿal הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ Jordan. yardēn
  8. וַיִּקַּח֩ took lāqaḥ אֵֽלִיָּ֨הוּ And Elijah ʾēliyyâ אֶת ʾēt אַדַּרְתּ֤וֹ his mantle, ʾadderet וַיִּגְלֹם֙ and wrapped together, gālam וַיַּכֶּ֣ה and smote nākâ אֶת ʾēt הַמַּ֔יִם the waters, mayim וַיֵּֽחָצ֖וּ and they were divided ḥāṣâ הֵ֣נָּה hither hēnnâ וָהֵ֑נָּה and thither, hēnnâ וַיַּֽעַבְר֥וּ went over ʿābar שְׁנֵיהֶ֖ם so that they two šĕnayim בֶּחָֽרָבָֽה׃ on dry ground. ḥārābâ
  9. וַיְהִ֣י And it came to pass, hāyâ כְעָבְרָ֗ם when they were gone over, ʿābar וְאֵ֨לִיָּ֜הוּ that Elijah ʾēliyyâ אָמַ֤ר said ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl אֱלִישָׁע֙ Elisha, ʾĕlîšāʿ שְׁאַל֙ Ask šāʾal מָ֣ה what אֶֽעֱשֶׂה I shall do ʿāśâ לָּ֔ךְ בְּטֶ֖רֶם for thee, before ṭerem אֶלָּקַ֣ח I be taken away lāqaḥ מֵֽעִמָּ֑ךְ from ʿim וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar אֱלִישָׁ֔ע thee. And Elisha ʾĕlîšāʿ וִֽיהִי be hāyâ נָ֛א I pray thee, nāʾ פִּֽי portion pe שְׁנַ֥יִם let a double šĕnayim בְּרֽוּחֲךָ֖ of thy spirit rûaḥ אֵלָֽי׃ upon me. ʾēl
  10. וַיֹּ֖אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar הִקְשִׁ֣יתָ a hard thing: qāšâ לִשְׁא֑וֹל Thou hast asked šāʾal אִם if ʾim תִּרְאֶ֨ה thou see rāʾâ אֹתִ֜י from ʾēt לֻקָּ֤ח me taken lāqaḥ מֵֽאִתָּךְ֙ ʾēt יְהִֽי thee, it shall be hāyâ לְךָ֣ כֵ֔ן so kēn וְאִם unto thee; but if ʾim אַ֖יִן not, ʾayin לֹ֥א it shall not lōʾ יִֽהְיֶֽה׃ be hāyâ
  11. וַיְהִ֗י And it came to pass, hāyâ הֵ֣מָּה as they hēm הֹֽלְכִ֤ים still hālak הָלוֹךְ֙ went on, hālak וְדַבֵּ֔ר and talked, dābar וְהִנֵּ֤ה that, behold, hinnē רֶֽכֶב a chariot rekeb אֵשׁ֙ of fire, ʾēš וְס֣וּסֵי and horses sûs אֵ֔שׁ of fire, ʾēš וַיַּפְרִ֖דוּ and parted pārad בֵּ֣ין asunder; bên שְׁנֵיהֶ֑ם them both šĕnayim וַיַּ֙עַל֙ went up ʿālâ אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ and Elijah ʾēliyyâ בַּֽסְּעָרָ֖ה by a whirlwind saʿar הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ into heaven. šāmayim
  12. וֶֽאֱלִישָׁ֣ע And Elisha ʾĕlîšāʿ רֹאֶ֗ה saw rāʾâ וְה֤וּא and he hûʾ מְצַעֵק֙ cried, ṣāʿaq אָבִ֣י׀ My father, ʾāb אָבִ֗י my father, ʾāb רֶ֤כֶב the chariot rekeb יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וּפָ֣רָשָׁ֔יו and the horsemen pāroš וְלֹ֥א him no lōʾ רָאָ֖הוּ thereof. And he saw rāʾâ ע֑וֹד more: ʿôd וַֽיַּחֲזֵק֙ and he took hold ḥāzaq בִּבְגָדָ֔יו of his own clothes, beged וַיִּקְרָעֵ֖ם and rent qāraʿ לִשְׁנַ֥יִם them in two šĕnayim קְרָעִֽים׃ pieces. qeraʿ
  13. וַיָּ֙רֶם֙ He took up rûm אֶת also ʾēt אַדֶּ֣רֶת the mantle ʾadderet אֵֽלִיָּ֔הוּ of Elijah ʾēliyyâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer נָֽפְלָ֖ה fell nāpal מֵֽעָלָ֑יו from ʿal וַיָּ֥שָׁב him, and went back, šûb וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֖ד and stood ʿāmad עַל by ʿal שְׂפַ֥ת the bank śāpâ הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ of Jordan; yardēn
  14. וַיִּקַּח֩ And he took lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt אַדֶּ֨רֶת the mantle ʾadderet אֵֽלִיָּ֜הוּ of Elijah ʾēliyyâ אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer נָֽפְלָ֤ה fell nāpal מֵֽעָלָיו֙ from ʿal וַיַּכֶּ֣ה him, and smote nākâ אֶת ʾēt הַמַּ֔יִם the waters, mayim וַיֹּאמַ֕ר and said, ʾāmar אַיֵּ֕ה Where ʾayyē יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֣י God ʾĕlōhîm אֵֽלִיָּ֑הוּ of Elijah? ʾēliyyâ אַף also ʾap ה֣וּא׀ and when he hûʾ וַיַּכֶּ֣ה had smitten nākâ אֶת ʾēt הַמַּ֗יִם the waters, mayim וַיֵּֽחָצוּ֙ they parted ḥāṣâ הֵ֣נָּה hither hēnnâ וָהֵ֔נָּה and thither: hēnnâ וַֽיַּעֲבֹ֖ר went over. ʿābar אֱלִישָֽׁע׃ and Elisha ʾĕlîšāʿ
  15. וַיִּרְאֻ֨הוּ saw rāʾâ בְנֵֽי And when the sons bēn הַנְּבִיאִ֤ים of the prophets nābîʾ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer בִּֽירִיחוֹ֙ at Jericho yĕrîḥô מִנֶּ֔גֶד to view neged וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ him, they said, ʾāmar נָ֛חָה doth rest nûaḥ ר֥וּחַ The spirit rûaḥ אֵֽלִיָּ֖הוּ of Elijah ʾēliyyâ עַל on ʿal אֱלִישָׁ֑ע Elisha. ʾĕlîšāʿ וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ And they came bôʾ לִקְרָאת֔וֹ to meet qirʾâ וַיִּשְׁתַּֽחֲווּ him, and bowed themselves šāḥâ ל֖וֹ אָֽרְצָה׃ to the ground before him. ʾereṣ
  16. וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ And they said ʾāmar אֵלָ֡יו unto ʾēl הִנֵּה him, Behold hinnē נָ֣א now, nāʾ יֵֽשׁ there be yēš אֶת with ʾēt עֲבָדֶיךָ֩ thy servants ʿebed חֲמִשִּׁ֨ים fifty ḥămiššîm אֲנָשִׁ֜ים ʾîš בְּנֵי men; bēn חַ֗יִל strong ḥayil יֵ֣לְכוּ let them go, hālak נָא֮ we pray thee, nāʾ וִֽיבַקְשׁ֣וּ and seek bāqaš אֶת ʾēt אֲדֹנֶיךָ֒ thy master: ʾādôn פֶּן lest peradventure pēn נְשָׂאוֹ֙ hath taken him up, nāśāʾ ר֣וּחַ the Spirit rûaḥ יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ וַיַּשְׁלִכֵ֙הוּ֙ and cast šālak בְּאַחַ֣ד him upon some ʾeḥād הֶֽהָרִ֔ים mountain, har א֖וֹ or ʾô בְּאַחַ֣ת into some ʾeḥād הַגֵּיאָוֹ֑ת valley. gayʾ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar לֹ֥א Ye shall not lōʾ תִשְׁלָֽחוּ׃ send. šālaḥ
  17. וַיִּפְצְרוּ And when they urged pāṣar ב֥וֹ עַד him till ʿad בֹּ֖שׁ he was ashamed, bûš וַיֹּ֣אמֶר he said, ʾāmar שְׁלָ֑חוּ Send. šālaḥ וַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙ They sent šālaḥ חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים therefore fifty ḥămiššîm אִ֔ישׁ men; ʾîš וַיְבַקְשׁ֥וּ and they sought bāqaš שְׁלֹשָֽׁה three šālôš יָמִ֖ים days, yôm וְלֹ֥א him not. lōʾ מְצָאֻֽהוּ׃ but found māṣāʾ
  18. וַיָּשֻׁ֣בוּ And when they came again šûb אֵלָ֔יו to ʾēl וְה֖וּא him, (for he hûʾ יֹשֵׁ֣ב tarried yāšab בִּֽירִיח֑וֹ at Jericho,) yĕrîḥô וַיֹּ֣אמֶר he said ʾāmar אֲלֵהֶ֔ם unto ʾēl הֲלֹֽא them, Did I not lōʾ אָמַ֥רְתִּי say ʾāmar אֲלֵיכֶ֖ם unto ʾēl אַל not? ʾal תֵּלֵֽכוּ׃ you, Go hālak
  19. וַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּ said ʾāmar אַנְשֵׁ֤י And the men ʾîš הָעִיר֙ of the city ʿîr אֶל unto ʾēl אֱלִישָׁ֔ע Elisha, ʾĕlîšāʿ הִנֵּה Behold, hinnē נָ֞א I pray thee, nāʾ מוֹשַׁ֤ב the situation môšāb הָעִיר֙ of this city ʿîr ט֔וֹב pleasant, ṭôb כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer אֲדֹנִ֖י my lord ʾādôn רֹאֶ֑ה seeth: rāʾâ וְהַמַּ֥יִם but the water mayim רָעִ֖ים naught, raʿ וְהָאָ֥רֶץ and the ground ʾereṣ מְשַׁכָּֽלֶת׃ barren. šākōl
  20. וַיֹּ֗אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar קְחוּ Bring lāqaḥ לִי֙ צְלֹחִ֣ית cruse, ṣĕlōḥît חֲדָשָׁ֔ה me a new ḥādoš וְשִׂ֥ימוּ and put śûm שָׁ֖ם therein. šām מֶ֑לַח salt melaḥ וַיִּקְח֖וּ And they brought lāqaḥ אֵלָֽיו׃ to him. ʾēl
  21. וַיֵּצֵא֙ And he went forth yāṣāʾ אֶל unto ʾēl מוֹצָ֣א the spring môṣāʾ הַמַּ֔יִם of the waters, mayim וַיַּשְׁלֶךְ and cast šālak שָׁ֖ם in there, šām מֶ֑לַח the salt melaḥ וַיֹּ֜אמֶר and said, ʾāmar כֹּֽה Thus אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֗ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ רִפִּ֙אתִי֙ I have healed rāpāʾ לַמַּ֣יִם waters; mayim הָאֵ֔לֶּה these ʾēlle לֹֽא there shall not lōʾ יִהְיֶ֥ה be hāyâ מִשָּׁ֛ם from thence šām ע֖וֹד any more ʿôd מָ֥וֶת death māwet וּמְשַׁכָּֽלֶת׃ or barren šākōl
  22. וַיֵּֽרָפ֣וּ were healed rāpāʾ הַמַּ֔יִם So the waters mayim עַ֖ד unto ʿad הַיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַזֶּ֑ה this ze כִּדְבַ֥ר according to the saying dābār אֱלִישָׁ֖ע of Elisha ʾĕlîšāʿ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer דִּבֵּֽר׃ he spake. dābar
  23. וַיַּ֥עַל And he went up ʿālâ מִשָּׁ֖ם from thence šām בֵּֽית אֵ֑ל unto Beth-el: bêt ʾēl וְה֣וּא׀ and as he hûʾ עֹלֶ֣ה was going up ʿālâ בַדֶּ֗רֶךְ by the way, derek וּנְעָרִ֤ים children naʿar קְטַנִּים֙ little qāṭān יָֽצְא֣וּ there came forth yāṣāʾ מִן out of min הָעִ֔יר the city, ʿîr וַיִּתְקַלְּסוּ and mocked qālas בוֹ֙ וַיֹּ֣אמְרוּ him, and said ʾāmar ל֔וֹ עֲלֵ֥ה unto him, Go up, ʿālâ קֵרֵ֖חַ thou bald head; qērēaḥ עֲלֵ֥ה go up, ʿālâ קֵרֵֽחַ׃ thou bald head. qērēaḥ
  24. וַיִּ֤פֶן And he turned pānâ אַֽחֲרָיו֙ back, ʾaḥar וַיִּרְאֵ֔ם and looked rāʾâ וַֽיְקַלְלֵ֖ם on them, and cursed qālal בְּשֵׁ֣ם them in the name šēm יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord. yĕhōwâ וַתֵּצֶ֨אנָה And there came forth yāṣāʾ שְׁתַּ֤יִם two šĕnayim דֻּבִּים֙ she bears dōb מִן out of min הַיַּ֔עַר the wood, yaʿar וַתְּבַקַּ֣עְנָה and tare bāqaʿ מֵהֶ֔ם hēm אַרְבָּעִ֥ים forty ʾarbāʿîm וּשְׁנֵ֖י and two šĕnayim יְלָדִֽים׃ children of them. yeled
  25. וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ And he went hālak מִשָּׁ֖ם from thence šām אֶל to ʾēl הַ֣ר mount har הַכַּרְמֶ֑ל Carmel, karmel וּמִשָּׁ֖ם and from thence šām שָׁ֥ב he returned šûb שֹֽׁמְרֽוֹן׃ to Samaria. šōmĕrôn
