  2. וְשָׁא֤וּל And Saul šāʾûl וְאִֽישׁ and the men ʾîš יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl נֶֽאֶסְפ֔וּ were gathered together, ʾāsap וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ and pitched ḥānâ בְּעֵ֣מֶק by the valley ʿēmeq הָֽאֵלָ֑ה of Elah, ʾēlâ וַיַּֽעַרְכ֥וּ in array ʿārak מִלְחָמָ֖ה and set the battle milḥāmâ לִקְרַ֥את against qirʾâ פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ the Philistines. pĕlištî
  3. וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֞ים And the Philistines pĕlištî עֹֽמְדִ֤ים stood ʿāmad אֶל on ʾēl הָהָר֙ a mountain har מִזֶּ֔ה on the one side, ze וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל and Israel yiśrāʾēl עֹֽמְדִ֥ים stood ʿāmad אֶל on ʾēl הָהָ֖ר a mountain har מִזֶּ֑ה on the other side: ze וְהַגַּ֖יְא and a valley gayʾ בֵּֽינֵיהֶֽם׃ between them. bên
  4. וַיֵּצֵ֤א And there went out yāṣāʾ אִֽישׁ a champion ʾîš הַבֵּנַ֙יִם֙ bēnayim מִמַּֽחֲנ֣וֹת out of the camp maḥăne פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים of the Philistines, pĕlištî גָּלְיָ֥ת Goliath, golyat שְׁמ֖וֹ named šēm מִגַּ֑ת of Gath, gat גָּבְה֕וֹ whose height gōbah שֵׁ֥שׁ six šēš אַמּ֖וֹת cubits ʾammâ וָזָֽרֶת׃ and a span. zeret
  5. וְכ֤וֹבַע And an helmet kôbaʿ נְחֹ֙שֶׁת֙ of brass nĕḥōšet עַל upon ʿal רֹאשׁ֔וֹ his head, rōš וְשִׁרְי֥וֹן with a coat širyôn קַשְׂקַשִּׂ֖ים of mail; qaśqeśet ה֣וּא and he hûʾ לָב֑וּשׁ armed lābaš וּמִשְׁקַל֙ and the weight mišqāl הַשִּׁרְי֔וֹן of the coat širyôn חֲמֵֽשֶׁת five ḥāmēš אֲלָפִ֥ים thousand ʾelep שְׁקָלִ֖ים shekels šeqel נְחֹֽשֶׁת׃ of brass. nĕḥōšet
  6. וּמִצְחַ֥ת And greaves miṣḥâ נְחֹ֖שֶׁת of brass nĕḥōšet עַל upon ʿal רַגְלָ֑יו his legs, regel וְכִיד֥וֹן and a target kîdôn נְחֹ֖שֶׁת of brass nĕḥōšet בֵּ֥ין between bên כְּתֵפָֽיו׃ his shoulders. kātēp
  7. וְחֵ֣ץ And the staff ḥēṣ חֲנִית֗וֹ of his spear ḥănît כִּמְנוֹר֙ beam; mānôr אֹֽרְגִ֔ים like a weaver's ʾārag וְלַהֶ֣בֶת head lehābâ חֲנִית֔וֹ and his spear's ḥănît שֵׁשׁ six šēš מֵא֥וֹת hundred mēʾâ שְׁקָלִ֖ים shekels šeqel בַּרְזֶ֑ל of iron: barzel וְנֹשֵׂ֥א and one bearing nāśāʾ הַצִּנָּ֖ה a shield ṣinnâ הֹלֵ֥ךְ went hālak לְפָנָֽיו׃ before him. pānîm
  8. וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֗ד And he stood ʿāmad וַיִּקְרָא֙ and cried qārāʾ אֶל unto ʾēl מַֽעַרְכֹ֣ת the armies maʿărākâ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and said ʾāmar לָהֶ֔ם לָ֥מָּה unto them, Why תֵֽצְא֖וּ are ye come out yāṣāʾ לַֽעֲרֹ֣ךְ in array? ʿārak מִלְחָמָ֑ה to set battle milḥāmâ הֲל֧וֹא not lōʾ אָֽנֹכִ֣י I ʾānōkî הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֗י a Philistine, pĕlištî וְאַתֶּם֙ and ye ʾattâ עֲבָדִ֣ים servants ʿebed לְשָׁא֔וּל to Saul? šāʾûl בְּרֽוּ choose bārâ לָכֶ֥ם אִ֖ישׁ you a man ʾîš וְיֵרֵ֥ד for you, and let him come down yārad אֵלָֽי׃ to me. ʾēl
  9. אִם If ʾim יוּכַ֞ל he be able yākōl לְהִלָּחֵ֤ם to fight lāḥam אִתִּי֙ with ʾēt וְהִכָּ֔נִי me, and to kill nākâ וְהָיִ֥ינוּ me, then will we be hāyâ לָכֶ֖ם לַֽעֲבָדִ֑ים your servants: ʿebed וְאִם but if ʾim אֲנִ֤י I ʾănî אֽוּכַל prevail yākōl לוֹ֙ וְהִכִּיתִ֔יו against him, and kill nākâ וִֽהְיִ֤יתֶם him, then shall ye be hāyâ לָ֙נוּ֙ לַֽעֲבָדִ֔ים our servants, ʿebed וַֽעֲבַדְתֶּ֖ם and serve us. ʿābad אֹתָֽנוּ׃ ʾēt
  10. וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ said, ʾāmar הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י And the Philistine pĕlištî אֲנִ֗י I ʾănî חֵרַ֛פְתִּי defy ḥārap אֶת ʾēt מַֽעַרְכ֥וֹת the armies maʿărākâ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl הַיּ֣וֹם day; yôm הַזֶּ֑ה this ze תְּנוּ give nātan לִ֣י אִ֔ישׁ me a man, ʾîš וְנִֽלָּחֲמָ֖ה that we may fight lāḥam יָֽחַד׃ together. yaḥad
  11. וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע heard šāmaʿ שָׁאוּל֙ When Saul šāʾûl וְכָל and all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶת ʾēt דִּבְרֵ֥י words dābār הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י of the Philistine, pĕlištî הָאֵ֑לֶּה those ʾēlle וַיֵּחַ֥תּוּ they were dismayed, ḥātat וַיִּֽרְא֖וּ afraid. yārēʾ מְאֹֽד׃ and greatly mĕʾōd
  12. וְדָוִד֩ Now David dāwid בֶּן the son bēn אִ֨ישׁ Ephrathite ʾîš אֶפְרָתִ֜י ʾeprātî הַזֶּ֗ה of that ze מִבֵּ֥ית לֶ֙חֶם֙ of Bethlehem-judah, bêt leḥem יְהוּדָ֔ה yĕhûdâ וּשְׁמ֣וֹ whose name šēm יִשַׁ֔י Jesse; yišay וְל֖וֹ שְׁמֹנָ֣ה and he had eight šĕmōne בָנִ֑ים sons: bēn וְהָאִישׁ֙ and the man ʾîš בִּימֵ֣י in the days yôm שָׁא֔וּל of Saul. šāʾûl זָקֵ֖ן an old man zāqēn בָּ֥א went bôʾ בַֽאֲנָשִֽׁים׃ among men ʾîš
  13. וַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ went hālak שְׁלֹ֤שֶׁת And the three šālôš בְּנֵֽי sons bēn יִשַׁי֙ of Jesse yišay הַגְּדֹלִ֔ים eldest gādôl הָֽלְכ֥וּ hālak אַֽחֲרֵי followed ʾaḥar שָׁא֖וּל Saul šāʾûl לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה to the battle: milḥāmâ וְשֵׁ֣ם׀ and the names šēm שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת of his three šālôš בָּנָ֗יו sons bēn אֲשֶׁ֤ר that ʾăšer הָֽלְכוּ֙ went hālak בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה to the battle milḥāmâ אֱלִיאָ֣ב Eliab ʾĕlîʾāb הַבְּכ֗וֹר the firstborn, bĕkôr וּמִשְׁנֵ֙הוּ֙ and next mišne אֲבִ֣ינָדָ֔ב unto him Abinadab, ʾăbînādāb וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁ֖י and the third šĕlîšî שַׁמָּֽה׃ Shammah. šammâ
  14. וְדָוִ֖ד And David dāwid ה֣וּא hûʾ הַקָּטָ֑ן the youngest: qāṭān וּשְׁלֹשָׁה֙ and the three šālôš הַגְּדֹלִ֔ים eldest gādôl הָֽלְכ֖וּ followed hālak אַֽחֲרֵ֥י ʾaḥar שָׁאֽוּל׃ Saul. šāʾûl
  15. וְדָוִ֛ד But David dāwid הֹלֵ֥ךְ went hālak וָשָׁ֖ב and returned šûb מֵעַ֣ל from ʿal שָׁא֑וּל Saul šāʾûl לִרְע֛וֹת to feed rāʿâ אֶת ʾēt צֹ֥אן sheep ṣōn אָבִ֖יו his father's ʾāb בֵּֽית לָֽחֶם׃ at Bethlehem. bêt leḥem
  16. וַיִּגַּ֥שׁ drew near nāgaš הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י And the Philistine pĕlištî הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם morning šākam וְהַֽעֲרֵ֑ב and evening, ʿārab וַיִּתְיַצֵּ֖ב and presented himself yāṣab אַרְבָּעִ֥ים forty ʾarbāʿîm יֽוֹם׃ days. yôm
  17. וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar יִשַׁ֜י And Jesse yišay לְדָוִ֣ד unto David dāwid בְּנ֗וֹ his son, bēn קַח Take lāqaḥ נָ֤א now nāʾ לְאַחֶ֙יךָ֙ for thy brethren ʾāḥ אֵיפַ֤ת an ephah ʾêpâ הַקָּלִיא֙ parched qālî הַזֶּ֔ה of this ze וַֽעֲשָׂרָ֥ה ten ʿeśer לֶ֖חֶם loaves, leḥem הַזֶּ֑ה and these ze וְהָרֵ֥ץ and run rûṣ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה to the camp maḥăne לְאַחֶֽיךָ׃ to thy brethren; ʾāḥ
  18. וְ֠אֵת ʾēt עֲשֶׂ֜רֶת ten ʿeśer חֲרִצֵ֤י ḥārîṣ הֶֽחָלָב֙ cheeses ḥālāb הָאֵ֔לֶּה these ʾēlle תָּבִ֖יא And carry bôʾ לְשַׂר unto the captain śar הָאָ֑לֶף of thousand, ʾelep וְאֶת ʾēt אַחֶ֙יךָ֙ thy brethren ʾāḥ תִּפְקֹ֣ד and look how pāqad לְשָׁל֔וֹם fare, šālôm וְאֶת ʾēt עֲרֻבָּתָ֖ם their pledge. ʿărubbâ תִּקָּֽח׃ and take lāqaḥ
  19. וְשָׁא֤וּל Now Saul, šāʾûl וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ and they, hēm וְכָל and all kōl אִ֣ישׁ the men ʾĕnôš יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl בְּעֵ֖מֶק in the valley ʿēmeq הָֽאֵלָ֑ה of Elah, ʾēlâ נִלְחָמִ֖ים fighting lāḥam עִם with ʿim פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ the Philistines. pĕlištî
  20. וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם rose up early šākam דָּוִ֜ד And David dāwid בַּבֹּ֗קֶר in the morning, bōqer וַיִּטֹּ֤שׁ and left nāṭaš אֶת ʾēt הַצֹּאן֙ the sheep ṣōn עַל with ʿal שֹׁמֵ֔ר a keeper, šāmar וַיִּשָּׂ֣א and took, nāśāʾ וַיֵּ֔לֶךְ and went, hālak כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer צִוָּ֖הוּ had commanded ṣāwâ יִשָׁ֑י Jesse yišay וַיָּבֹא֙ him; and he came bôʾ הַמַּעְגָּ֔לָה to the trench, maʿgāl וְהַחַ֗יִל as the host ḥayil הַיֹּצֵא֙ was going forth yāṣāʾ אֶל to ʾēl הַמַּ֣עֲרָכָ֔ה the fight, maʿărākâ וְהֵרֵ֖עוּ and shouted rûaʿ בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ for the battle. milḥāmâ
  21. וַתַּֽעֲרֹ֤ךְ had put the battle in array, ʿārak יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ For Israel yiśrāʾēl וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים and the Philistines pĕlištî מַֽעֲרָכָ֖ה army maʿărākâ לִקְרַ֥את against qirʾâ מַֽעֲרָכָֽה׃ army. maʿărākâ
  22. וַיִּטֹּשׁ֩ left nāṭaš דָּוִ֨ד And David dāwid אֶת ʾēt הַכֵּלִ֜ים his carriage kĕlî מֵֽעָלָ֗יו in ʿal עַל ʿal יַד֙ the hand yād שׁוֹמֵ֣ר of the keeper šāmar הַכֵּלִ֔ים of the carriage, kĕlî וַיָּ֖רָץ and ran rûṣ הַמַּֽעֲרָכָ֑ה into the army, maʿărākâ וַיָּבֹ֕א and came bôʾ וַיִּשְׁאַ֥ל and saluted šāʾal לְאֶחָ֖יו his brethren. ʾāḥ לְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ šālôm
  23. וְה֣וּא׀ And as he hûʾ מְדַבֵּ֣ר talked dābar עִמָּ֗ם with ʿim וְהִנֵּ֣ה them, behold, hinnē אִ֣ישׁ the champion, ʾîš הַבֵּנַ֡יִם bēnayim עוֹלֶ֞ה there came up ʿālâ גָּלְיָת֩ Goliath golyat הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֨י the Philistine pĕlištî שְׁמ֤וֹ by name, šēm מִגַּת֙ of Gath, gat מִמַּֽעַרְוֹ֣ת out of the armies maʿărâ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים of the Philistines, pĕlištî וַיְדַבֵּ֖ר and spake dābar כַּדְּבָרִ֣ים words: dābār הָאֵ֑לֶּה according to the same ʾēlle וַיִּשְׁמַ֖ע heard šāmaʿ דָּוִֽד׃ and David dāwid
  24. וְכֹל֙ And all kōl אִ֣ישׁ the men ʾîš יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl בִּרְאוֹתָ֖ם when they saw rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt הָאִ֑ישׁ the man, ʾîš וַיָּנֻ֙סוּ֙ fled nûs מִפָּנָ֔יו from him, pānîm וַיִּֽירְא֖וּ afraid. yārēʾ מְאֹֽד׃ and were sore mĕʾōd
  25. וַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀ said, ʾāmar אִ֣ישׁ And the men ʾîš יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl הַרְּאִיתֶם֙ Have ye seen rāʾâ הָאִ֤ישׁ man ʾîš הָֽעֹלֶה֙ that is come up? ʿālâ הַזֶּ֔ה this ze כִּ֛י surely לְחָרֵ֥ף to defy ḥārap אֶת ʾēt יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל Israel yiśrāʾēl עֹלֶ֑ה is he come up: ʿālâ וְֽ֠הָיָה and it shall be, hāyâ הָאִ֨ישׁ the man ʾîš אֲשֶׁר who ʾăšer יַכֶּ֜נּוּ killeth nākâ יַעְשְׁרֶ֥נּוּ will enrich ʿāšar הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ׀ him, the king melek עֹ֣שֶׁר riches, ʿōšer גָּד֗וֹל him with great gādôl וְאֶת ʾēt בִּתּוֹ֙ him his daughter, bat יִתֶּן and will give nātan ל֔וֹ וְאֵת֙ ʾēt בֵּ֣ית house bayit אָבִ֔יו his father's ʾāb יַֽעֲשֶׂ֥ה and make ʿāśâ חָפְשִׁ֖י free ḥopšî בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ in Israel. yiśrāʾēl
  26. וַיֹּ֣אמֶר spake ʾāmar דָּוִ֗ד And David dāwid אֶֽל to ʾēl הָאֲנָשִׁ֞ים the men ʾĕnôš הָעֹֽמְדִ֣ים that stood ʿāmad עִמּוֹ֮ by ʿim לֵאמֹר֒ him, saying, ʾāmar מַה What יֵּֽעָשֶׂ֗ה shall be done ʿāśâ לָאִישׁ֙ to the man ʾîš אֲשֶׁ֤ר that ʾăšer יַכֶּה֙ killeth nākâ אֶת ʾēt הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֣י Philistine, pĕlištî הַלָּ֔ז this hallāz וְהֵסִ֥יר and taketh away sûr חֶרְפָּ֖ה the reproach ḥerpâ מֵעַ֣ל from ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel? yiśrāʾēl כִּ֣י for מִ֗י who הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֤י Philistine, pĕlištî הֶֽעָרֵל֙ uncircumcised ʿārēl הַזֶּ֔ה this ze כִּ֣י that חֵרֵ֔ף he should defy ḥārap מַֽעַרְכ֖וֹת the armies maʿărākâ אֱלֹהִ֥ים God? ʾĕlōhîm חַיִּֽים׃ of the living ḥay
  27. וַיֹּ֤אמֶר answered ʾāmar לוֹ֙ הָעָ֔ם And the people ʿam כַּדָּבָ֥ר manner, dābār הַזֶּ֖ה him after this ze לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar כֹּ֣ה So יֵֽעָשֶׂ֔ה shall it be done ʿāśâ לָאִ֖ישׁ to the man ʾîš אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer יַכֶּֽנּוּ׃ killeth him. nākâ
  28. וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע heard šāmaʿ אֱלִיאָב֙ And Eliab ʾĕlîʾāb אָחִ֣יו brother ʾāḥ הַגָּד֔וֹל his eldest gādôl בְּדַבְּר֖וֹ when he spake dābar אֶל unto ʾēl הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֑ים the men; ʾîš וַיִּֽחַר was kindled ḥārâ אַף֩ anger ʾap אֱלִיאָ֨ב and Eliab's ʾĕlîʾāb בְּדָוִ֜ד against David, dāwid וַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀ and he said, ʾāmar לָמָּה Why זֶּ֣ה ze יָרַ֗דְתָּ camest thou down yārad וְעַל hither? and with ʿal מִ֨י whom נָטַ֜שְׁתָּ hast thou left nāṭaš מְעַ֨ט few mĕʿaṭ הַצֹּ֤אן sheep ṣōn הָהֵ֙נָּה֙ those hēnnâ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר in the wilderness? midbār אֲנִ֧י I ʾănî יָדַ֣עְתִּי know yādaʿ אֶת ʾēt זְדֹֽנְךָ֗ thy pride, zādôn וְאֵת֙ ʾēt רֹ֣עַ and the naughtiness rōaʿ לְבָבֶ֔ךָ of thine heart; lēbāb כִּ֗י for לְמַ֛עַן that maʿan רְא֥וֹת thou mightest see rāʾâ הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה the battle. milḥāmâ יָרָֽדְתָּ׃ thou art come down yārad
  29. וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar דָּוִ֔ד And David dāwid מֶ֥ה What עָשִׂ֖יתִי done? ʿāśâ עָ֑תָּה have I now ʿattâ הֲל֖וֹא not lōʾ דָּבָ֥ר a cause? dābār הֽוּא׃ hûʾ
  30. וַיִּסֹּ֤ב And he turned sābab מֵֽאֶצְלוֹ֙ from him ʾēṣel אֶל ʾēl מ֣וּל toward mûl אַחֵ֔ר another, ʾaḥēr וַיֹּ֖אמֶר and spake ʾāmar כַּדָּבָ֣ר manner: dābār הַזֶּ֑ה after the same ze וַיְשִׁבֻ֤הוּ him again šûb הָעָם֙ and the people ʿam דָּבָ֔ר answered dābār כַּדָּבָ֖ר manner. dābār הָֽרִאשֽׁוֹן׃ after the former riʾšôn
  31. וַיְּשָּֽׁמְעוּ֙ were heard šāmaʿ הַדְּבָרִ֔ים And when the words dābār אֲשֶׁ֖ר which ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֣ר spake, dābar דָּוִ֑ד David dāwid וַיַּגִּ֥דוּ they rehearsed nāgad לִפְנֵֽי before pānîm שָׁא֖וּל Saul: šāʾûl וַיִּקָּחֵֽהוּ׃ and he sent for him. lāqaḥ
  32. וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar דָּוִד֙ And David dāwid אֶל to ʾēl שָׁא֔וּל Saul, šāʾûl אַל Let no ʾal יִפֹּ֥ל fail nāpal לֵב heart lēb אָדָ֖ם man's ʾādām עָלָ֑יו because ʿal עַבְדְּךָ֣ of him; thy servant ʿebed יֵלֵ֔ךְ will go hālak וְנִלְחַ֖ם and fight lāḥam עִם with ʿim הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֥י Philistine. pĕlištî הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze
  33. וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar שָׁא֜וּל And Saul šāʾûl אֶל to ʾēl דָּוִ֗ד David, dāwid לֹ֤א Thou art not lōʾ תוּכַל֙ able yākōl לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ to go hālak אֶל against ʾēl הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֣י Philistine pĕlištî הַזֶּ֔ה this ze לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם to fight lāḥam עִמּ֑וֹ with ʿim כִּֽי him: for נַ֣עַר a youth, naʿar אַ֔תָּה thou ʾattâ וְה֛וּא and he hûʾ אִ֥ישׁ a man ʾîš מִלְחָמָ֖ה of war milḥāmâ מִנְּעֻרָֽיו׃ from his youth. nāʿûr
  34. וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar דָּוִד֙ And David dāwid אֶל unto ʾēl שָׁא֔וּל Saul, šāʾûl רֹעֶ֨ה kept rāʿâ הָיָ֧ה hāyâ עַבְדְּךָ֛ Thy servant ʿebed לְאָבִ֖יו his father's ʾāb בַּצֹּ֑אן sheep, ṣōn וּבָ֤א and there came bôʾ הָֽאֲרִי֙ a lion, ʾărî וְאֶת ʾēt הַדּ֔וֹב and a bear, dōb וְנָשָׂ֥א and took nāśāʾ שֶׂ֖ה a lamb śe מֵֽהָעֵֽדֶר׃ out of the flock: ʿēder
  35. וְיָצָ֧אתִי And I went out yāṣāʾ אַֽחֲרָ֛יו after ʾaḥar וְהִכִּתִ֖יו him, and smote nākâ וְהִצַּ֣לְתִּי him, and delivered nāṣal מִפִּ֑יו out of his mouth: pe וַיָּ֣קָם and when he arose qûm עָלַ֔י against ʿal וְהֶֽחֱזַ֙קְתִּי֙ me, I caught ḥāzaq בִּזְקָנ֔וֹ by his beard, zāqān וְהִכִּתִ֖יו and smote nākâ וַֽהֲמִיתִּֽיו׃ him, and slew him. mût
  36. גַּ֧ם both gam אֶֽת ʾēt הָאֲרִ֛י the lion ʾărî גַּם and gam הַדּ֖וֹב the bear: dōb הִכָּ֣ה slew nākâ עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ Thy servant ʿebed וְֽ֠הָיָה shall be hāyâ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֨י Philistine pĕlištî הֶֽעָרֵ֤ל uncircumcised ʿārēl הַזֶּה֙ and this ze כְּאַחַ֣ד as one ʾeḥād מֵהֶ֔ם hēm כִּ֣י of them, seeing חֵרֵ֔ף he hath defied ḥārap מַֽעַרְכֹ֖ת the armies maʿărākâ אֱלֹהִ֥ים God. ʾĕlōhîm חַיִּֽים׃ of the living ḥay
  37. וַיֹּאמֶר֮ said ʾāmar דָּוִד֒ David dāwid יְהוָ֗ה moreover, The Lord yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ʾăšer הִצִּלַ֜נִי delivered nāṣal מִיַּ֤ד me out of the paw yād הָֽאֲרִי֙ of the lion, ʾărî וּמִיַּ֣ד and out of the paw yād הַדֹּ֔ב of the bear, dōb ה֣וּא he hûʾ יַצִּילֵ֔נִי will deliver nāṣal מִיַּ֥ד me out of the hand yād הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י Philistine. pĕlištî הַזֶּ֑ה of this ze וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar שָׁא֤וּל And Saul šāʾûl אֶל unto ʾēl דָּוִד֙ David, dāwid לֵ֔ךְ Go, hālak וַֽיהוָ֖ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ יִֽהְיֶ֥ה be hāyâ עִמָּֽךְ׃ with thee. ʿim
  38. וַיַּלְבֵּ֨שׁ armed lābaš שָׁא֤וּל And Saul šāʾûl אֶת ʾēt דָּוִד֙ David dāwid מַדָּ֔יו with his armour, mad וְנָתַ֛ן and he put nātan ק֥וֹבַע an helmet qôbaʿ נְחֹ֖שֶׁת of brass nĕḥōšet עַל upon ʿal רֹאשׁ֑וֹ his head; rōš וַיַּלְבֵּ֥שׁ also he armed lābaš אֹת֖וֹ ʾēt שִׁרְיֽוֹן׃ him with a coat of mail. širyôn
  39. וַיַּחְגֹּ֣ר girded ḥāgar דָּוִ֣ד And David dāwid אֶת ʾēt חַ֠רְבּוֹ his sword ḥereb מֵעַ֨ל upon ʿal לְמַדָּ֜יו his armour, mad וַיֹּ֣אֶל and he assayed yāʾal לָלֶכֶת֮ to go; hālak כִּ֣י for לֹֽא he had not lōʾ נִסָּה֒ proved nāsâ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar דָּוִ֜ד And David dāwid אֶל unto ʾēl שָׁא֗וּל Saul, šāʾûl לֹ֥א lōʾ אוּכַ֛ל I cannot yākōl לָלֶ֥כֶת go hālak בָּאֵ֖לֶּה with these; ʾēlle כִּ֣י for לֹ֣א I have not lōʾ נִסִּ֑יתִי proved nāsâ וַיְסִרֵ֥ם put sûr דָּוִ֖ד And David dāwid מֵֽעָלָֽיו׃ them off him. ʿal
  40. וַיִּקַּ֨ח And he took lāqaḥ מַקְל֜וֹ his staff maqqēl בְּיָד֗וֹ in his hand, yād וַיִּבְחַר and chose bāḥar ל֣וֹ חֲמִשָּׁ֣ה him five ḥāmēš חַלֻּקֵֽי smooth ḥalluq אֲבָנִ֣ים׀ stones ʾeben מִן out of min הַנַּ֡חַל the brook, naḥal וַיָּ֣שֶׂם and put śûm אֹ֠תָם ʾēt בִּכְלִ֨י bag kĕlî הָֽרֹעִ֧ים them in a shepherd's rāʿâ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer ל֛וֹ וּבַיַּלְק֖וּט he had, even in a scrip; yalqûṭ וְקַלְּע֣וֹ and his sling qelaʿ בְיָד֑וֹ in his hand: yād וַיִּגַּ֖שׁ and he drew near nāgaš אֶל to ʾēl הַפְּלִשְׁתִּֽי׃ the Philistine. pĕlištî
  41. וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ came hālak הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י And the Philistine pĕlištî הֹלֵ֥ךְ on hālak וְקָרֵ֖ב and drew near qārēb אֶל unto ʾēl דָּוִ֑ד David; dāwid וְהָאִ֛ישׁ and the man ʾîš נֹשֵׂ֥א that bare nāśāʾ הַצִּנָּ֖ה the shield ṣinnâ לְפָנָֽיו׃ before him. pānîm
  42. וַיַּבֵּ֧ט looked about, nābaṭ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛י And when the Philistine pĕlištî וַיִּרְאֶ֥ה and saw rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt דָּוִ֖ד David, dāwid וַיִּבְזֵ֑הוּ he disdained bāzâ כִּֽי him: for הָיָ֣ה he was hāyâ נַ֔עַר a youth, naʿar וְאַדְמֹנִ֖י and ruddy, ʾadmōnî עִם and of ʿim יְפֵ֥ה a fair yāpe מַרְאֶֽה׃ countenance. marʾe
  43. וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי֙ And the Philistine pĕlištî אֶל unto ʾēl דָּוִ֔ד David, dāwid הֲכֶ֣לֶב a dog, keleb אָנֹ֔כִי I ʾānōkî כִּֽי that אַתָּ֥ה thou ʾattâ בָֽא comest bôʾ אֵלַ֖י to ʾēl בַּמַּקְל֑וֹת me with staves? maqqēl וַיְקַלֵּ֧ל cursed qālal הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛י And the Philistine pĕlištî אֶת ʾēt דָּוִ֖ד David dāwid בֵּֽאלֹהָֽיו׃ by his gods. ʾĕlōhîm
  44. וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said ʾāmar הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י And the Philistine pĕlištî אֶל to ʾēl דָּוִ֑ד David, dāwid לְכָ֣ה Come hālak אֵלַ֔י to ʾēl וְאֶתְּנָה֙ me, and I will give nātan אֶת ʾēt בְּשָׂ֣רְךָ֔ thy flesh bāśār לְע֥וֹף unto the fowls ʿôp הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם of the air, šāmayim וּלְבֶֽהֱמַ֥ת and to the beasts bĕhēmâ הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃ of the field. śāde
  45. וַיֹּ֤אמֶר Then said ʾāmar דָּוִד֙ David dāwid אֶל to ʾēl הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י the Philistine, pĕlištî אַתָּה֙ Thou ʾattâ בָּ֣א comest bôʾ אֵלַ֔י to ʾēl בְּחֶ֖רֶב me with a sword, ḥereb וּבַֽחֲנִ֣ית and with a spear, ḥănît וּבְכִיד֑וֹן and with a shield: kîdôn וְאָֽנֹכִ֣י but I ʾānōkî בָֽא come bôʾ אֵלֶ֗יךָ to ʾēl בְּשֵׁם֙ thee in the name šēm יְהוָ֣ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֔וֹת of hosts, ṣābāʾ אֱלֹהֵ֛י the God ʾĕlōhîm מַֽעַרְכ֥וֹת of the armies maʿărākâ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁ֥ר whom ʾăšer חֵרַֽפְתָּ׃ thou hast defied. ḥārap
  46. הַיּ֣וֹם day yôm הַזֶּ֡ה This ze יְסַגֶּרְךָ֩ deliver sāgar יְהוָ֨ה will the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּיָדִ֜י thee into mine hand; yād וְהִכִּיתִ֗ךָ and I will smite nākâ וַהֲסִֽרֹתִ֤י thee, and take sûr אֶת ʾēt רֹֽאשְׁךָ֙ thine head rōš מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ from ʿal וְנָ֨תַתִּ֜י thee; and I will give nātan פֶּ֣גֶר the carcases peger מַֽחֲנֵ֤ה of the host maḥăne פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ of the Philistines pĕlištî הַיּ֣וֹם day yôm הַזֶּ֔ה this ze לְע֥וֹף unto the fowls ʿôp הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם of the air, šāmayim וּלְחַיַּ֣ת and to the wild beasts ḥay הָאָ֑רֶץ of the earth; ʾereṣ וְיֵֽדְעוּ֙ may know yādaʿ כָּל that all kōl הָאָ֔רֶץ the earth ʾereṣ כִּ֛י that יֵ֥שׁ there is yēš אֱלֹהִ֖ים a God ʾĕlōhîm לְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ in Israel. yiśrāʾēl
  47. וְיֵֽדְעוּ֙ shall know yādaʿ כָּל And all kōl הַקָּהָ֣ל assembly qāhāl הַזֶּ֔ה this ze כִּֽי that לֹ֛א not lōʾ בְּחֶ֥רֶב with sword ḥereb וּבַֽחֲנִ֖ית and spear: ḥănît יְהוֹשִׁ֣יעַ saveth yāšaʿ יְהוָ֑ה the Lord yĕhōwâ כִּ֤י for לַֽיהוָה֙ the Lord's, yĕhōwâ הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה the battle milḥāmâ וְנָתַ֥ן and he will give nātan אֶתְכֶ֖ם ʾēt בְּיָדֵֽנוּ׃ you into our hands. yād
  48. וְהָיָה֙ And it came to pass, hāyâ כִּֽי when קָ֣ם arose, qûm הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י the Philistine pĕlištî וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ and came hālak וַיִּקְרַ֖ב and drew nigh qārab לִקְרַ֣את to meet qirʾâ דָּוִ֑ד David, dāwid וַיְמַהֵ֣ר hasted, māhar דָּוִ֔ד that David dāwid וַיָּ֥רָץ and ran rûṣ הַמַּֽעֲרָכָ֖ה toward the army maʿărākâ לִקְרַ֥את to meet qirʾâ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּֽי׃ the Philistine. pĕlištî
  49. וַיִּשְׁלַח֩ put šālaḥ דָּוִ֨ד And David dāwid אֶת ʾēt יָד֜וֹ his hand yād אֶל in ʾēl הַכֶּ֗לִי his bag, kĕlî וַיִּקַּ֨ח and took lāqaḥ מִשָּׁ֥ם thence šām אֶ֙בֶן֙ a stone, ʾeben וַיְקַלַּ֔ע and slang qālaʿ וַיַּ֥ךְ and smote nākâ אֶת ʾēt הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י the Philistine pĕlištî אֶל in ʾēl מִצְח֑וֹ his forehead, mēṣaḥ וַתִּטְבַּ֤ע sunk ṭābaʿ הָאֶ֙בֶן֙ that the stone ʾeben בְּמִצְח֔וֹ into his forehead; mēṣaḥ וַיִּפֹּ֥ל and he fell nāpal עַל upon ʿal פָּנָ֖יו his face pānîm אָֽרְצָה׃ to the earth. ʾereṣ
  50. וַיֶּֽחֱזַ֨ק prevailed ḥāzaq דָּוִ֤ד So David dāwid מִן over min הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי֙ the Philistine pĕlištî בַּקֶּ֣לַע with a sling qelaʿ וּבָאֶ֔בֶן and with a stone, ʾeben וַיַּ֥ךְ and smote nākâ אֶת ʾēt הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י the Philistine, pĕlištî וַיְמִתֵ֑הוּ and slew mût וְחֶ֖רֶב sword ḥereb אֵ֥ין him; but no ʾayin בְּיַד in the hand yād דָּוִֽד׃ of David. dāwid
  51. וַיָּ֣רָץ ran, rûṣ דָּ֠וִד Therefore David dāwid וַיַּֽעֲמֹ֨ד and stood ʿāmad אֶל upon ʾēl הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֜י the Philistine, pĕlištî וַיִּקַּ֣ח and took lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt חַ֠רְבּוֹ his sword, ḥereb וַֽיִּשְׁלְפָ֤הּ and drew šālap מִתַּעְרָהּ֙ it out of the sheath taʿar וַיְמֹ֣תְתֵ֔הוּ thereof, and slew mût וַיִּכְרָת him, and cut off kārat בָּ֖הּ אֶת ʾēt רֹאשׁ֑וֹ his head rōš וַיִּרְא֧וּ saw rāʾâ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛ים therewith. And when the Philistines pĕlištî כִּי מֵ֥ת was dead, mût גִּבּוֹרָ֖ם their champion gibbôr וַיָּנֻֽסוּ׃ they fled. nûs
  52. וַיָּקֻ֣מוּ arose, qûm אַנְשֵׁי֩ And the men ʾîš יִשְׂרָאֵ֨ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl וִֽיהוּדָ֜ה and of Judah yĕhûdâ וַיָּרִ֗עוּ and shouted, rûaʿ וַֽיִּרְדְּפוּ֙ and pursued rādap אֶת ʾēt הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים the Philistines, pĕlištî עַד until ʿad בּֽוֹאֲךָ֣ thou come bôʾ גַ֔יְא to the valley, gayʾ וְעַ֖ד and to ʿad שַֽׁעֲרֵ֣י the gates šaʿar עֶקְר֑וֹן of Ekron. ʿeqrôn וַֽיִּפְּל֞וּ fell down nāpal חַֽלְלֵ֤י And the wounded ḥālāl פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ of the Philistines pĕlištî בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ by the way derek שַֽׁעֲרַ֔יִם to Shaaraim, šaʿărayim וְעַד even unto ʿad גַּ֖ת Gath, gat וְעַד and unto ʿad עֶקְרֽוֹן׃ Ekron. ʿeqrôn
  53. וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ returned šûb בְּנֵ֣י And the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מִדְּלֹ֖ק from chasing dālaq אַֽחֲרֵ֣י after ʾaḥar פְלִשְׁתִּ֑ים the Philistines, pĕlištî וַיָּשֹׁ֖סּוּ and they spoiled šāsas אֶת ʾēt מַֽחֲנֵיהֶֽם׃ their tents. maḥăne
  54. וַיִּקַּ֤ח took lāqaḥ דָּוִד֙ And David dāwid אֶת ʾēt רֹ֣אשׁ the head rōš הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י of the Philistine, pĕlištî וַיְבִאֵ֖הוּ and brought bôʾ יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם it to Jerusalem; yĕrûšālaim וְאֶת ʾēt כֵּלָ֖יו his armour kĕlî שָׂ֥ם but he put śûm בְּאָֽהֳלֽוֹ׃ in his tent. ʾōhel
  55. וְכִרְא֨וֹת saw rāʾâ שָׁא֜וּל And when Saul šāʾûl אֶת ʾēt דָּוִ֗ד David dāwid יֹצֵא֙ go forth yāṣāʾ לִקְרַ֣את against qirʾâ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י the Philistine, pĕlištî אָמַ֗ר he said ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl אַבְנֵר֙ Abner, ʾabnēr שַׂ֣ר the captain śar הַצָּבָ֔א of the host, ṣābāʾ בֶּן son bēn מִי whose זֶ֥ה this ze הַנַּ֖עַר youth? naʿar אַבְנֵ֑ר Abner, ʾabnēr וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar אַבְנֵ֔ר And Abner ʾabnēr חֵֽי liveth, ḥay נַפְשְׁךָ֥ thy soul nepeš הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ O king, melek אִם I cannot ʾim יָדָֽעְתִּי׃ tell. yādaʿ
  56. וַיֹּ֖אמֶר said, ʾāmar הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ And the king melek שְׁאַ֣ל Inquire šāʾal אַתָּ֔ה thou ʾattâ בֶּן son bēn מִי whose זֶ֖ה ze הָעָֽלֶם׃ the stripling ʿelem
  57. וּכְשׁ֣וּב returned šûb דָּוִ֗ד And as David dāwid מֵֽהַכּוֹת֙ from the slaughter nākâ אֶת of ʾēt הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י the Philistine, pĕlištî וַיִּקַּ֤ח took lāqaḥ אֹתוֹ֙ ʾēt אַבְנֵ֔ר Abner ʾabnēr וַיְבִאֵ֖הוּ him, and brought bôʾ לִפְנֵ֣י him before pānîm שָׁא֑וּל Saul šāʾûl וְרֹ֥אשׁ with the head rōš הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י of the Philistine pĕlištî בְּיָדֽוֹ׃ in his hand. yād
  58. וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar אֵלָיו֙ to ʾēl שָׁא֔וּל And Saul šāʾûl בֶּן son bēn מִ֥י him, Whose אַתָּ֖ה thou, ʾattâ הַנָּ֑עַר young man? naʿar וַיֹּ֣אמֶר answered, ʾāmar דָּוִ֔ד And David dāwid בֶּֽן the son bēn עַבְדְּךָ֥ of thy servant ʿebed יִשַׁ֖י Jesse yišay בֵּ֥ית הַלַּחְמִֽי׃ the Bethlehemite. bêt hallaḥmî
